Air Conditioner handles military and harsh environments

Melcor Introduces Ruggedized 1200 BTU/Hr Solid State Air Conditioner for Military and Harsh Enviroments

Trenton, NJ, USA, March 2003 - MELCOR, a world leading manufacturer of thermoelectric cooling products and subsidiary of Fedders Corporation, a global manufacturer of air treatment products and North America's largest room air conditioner manufacturer, introduces a ruggedized version of the MAA1200E series of externally mounted, high performance solid-state air conditioners.

Driven by requirements for cooling electronics in harsh field applications, this 1200 Btu/hr air conditioner now features options including NEMA 4X, Mil-Std ratings, as well as UL and CSA certifications. Specialty coatings and patterns for concealment needs are available. The high accuracy digital controller can be mounted internally or externally depending upon access and stealth requirements. A heating option provides up to 1,350 Btu/hr of heat and is designed to meet specifications for universal theatre-of-operation enclosure climate control. Additional features include RS232, RS485 and various network interface options for the high accuracy Digital Temperature controller and software. Using Melcor's world-renowned thermoelectric coolers and components, TechniCOOL? air conditioners offer state-of-the-art performance and efficiency.

Installation of the MAA1200E is straightforward. These solid-state air conditioners can be mounted in any orientation, as they contain no working fluids. A stainless steel (standard) or specialty-coated unit is 18.25"H x 11.75"W x 8.5"D (467mm x 298mm x 214mm) and can be mounted on surfaces as narrow as 12" (305mm) in width. Weight is 52 lbs (23.6 kg). The MAA1200E features an external condensate removal system which compensates for enclosure imperfections such as air leaks and the opening
and closing of doors. These units can operate on either AC or DC input voltage.

MELCOR thermoelectric coolers are solid-state heat pumps that utilize the Peltier effect to provide cooling (or heating). Features include reliable solid-state operation, precision temperature control capability, no acoustical/electrical noise and DC operation.
