How does the Friedrich C-90A electrostatic air Purifier work? This air purifier uses electrostatic and carbon filters instead of HEPA cloth but it still has received high Clean Air Delivery Rates (CADR) from independent AHAM (Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers) laboratory tests. The unit has an indicator light function that signals the air purifier is working properly, and a safety interlock switch that shuts the air purifier off when the access cover is removed. 1. How to maintain Friedrich Electrostatic Air Purifiers In order to keep the C-90A air purifier operating at peak efficiency, it is important to wash the electronic cell. The electronic cell can either be submerged in a bathtub or other suitable container and rinsed, or it can be washed in an automatic dishwasher. The C-90A air purifier comes with one carbon filter. Summary The C-90A is very easy to maintain. Changing the filters is easy; simply slide new ones in a slot. There is no expense of replacing prefilters and HEPA filters. When the C-90A’s electrostatic collector plates become clogged, simply wash them in the dishwasher. The pre-filter can also be vacuumed or washed in an all- purpose washing fluid and water. This is a very quiet machine, even on high the high setting. If the air is of very poor quality, the efficiency of the electrostatic cell will degrade rapidly, and may necessitate weekly cleaning. When the electrostatic plates need cleaning, the C-90A will sound much like a bug zapper. Because this machine uses electrostatic precipitation, the C-90A will emit a very small amount of ozone. This filter has a minimal carbon filter and thusly is not the best choice for heavy odor or VOC removal. In summary, the Friedrich C-90A is ultra quiet, inexpensive to maintain and easy to operate. Friedrich C-90A Electrostatic Air Purifier: I purchased the Fredrich C-90 Air Purifier when I moved in with my roommate who happens to be a smoker. Even though she smokes on the front porch, I still felt like some of the smoke was reaching the inside of the house. I was looking for a solution that did not involve expensive HEPA or Carbon filter changes, so the Fredrich was the perfect solution. I could tell a huge difference in the air within the first hour of operation and it is so easy to maintain. The Fredrich contains a pre-filter, which captures larger particles, electrostatic collector plates, which captures smaller particles, and a carbon filter which helps to remove odors and also absorbs any ozone created by the electrostatic precipitator.
