Product Description

At just twenty-three years old, Shauna Reid weighed 351 pounds. Spurred into action by the sight of her enormous white knickers billowing on the clothesline, she created the hugely successful blog "The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl." Hiding behind her Lycra-clad, roly-poly alter-ego, her transformation from couch potato to svelte goddess began.

Today, eight thousand miles, seven years, and 175 pounds later, the gloriously gorgeous Shauna is literally half the woman she used to be. Hysterically funny and heart-wrenchingly honest, The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl includes travel tales from Australia to Paris to Red Square, plus romance when she meets the man of her dreams in a Scottish pub. This is the uplifting true story of a young woman who defeated her demons and conquered her cravings to become a real-life superhero to inspire us all.

Customer Reviews:

  • Just love that DietGirl!
This was a wonderful book. I just did not want to put it down. At times sad but mostly funny....kind of like real life. I found myself relating to Shauna Reid throughout most of the book even though we come from completely different parts of the world. Definitely one of the best books that I have read in some time!...more info
  • The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl
Loved it! Anyone that has struggled with their own weight will love this honest account of Dietgirl's weightloss journey! ...more info
  • Honest and real
I really enjoyed this book. Despite not reaching the proportions that Shauna faced, I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I loved reading her honest thoughts and process. She never pretends to have the answers for anyone else - she simply examines her own journey. When I closed the book after finishing it, I missed Shauna. I felt like we had become friends and was so happy when she came to a point of understanding what was truly important in her life....more info
  • An Amazing Book by an Amazing Woman
I read this book in two days, it would have only been one had I started earlier on the first day! Shauna Reid is an excellent writer on top of being a REAL person.

Her story is witty and insightful and so so honest. I related in so many ways having gone through a similar journey. I read some parts to my boyfriend who was also amazed to see so much of me in this book, which was helpful because there were often times I just couldn't find the words to express what I was feeling, Shauna was able to express it all in a real and often humorous way.

Her story is about her and HER journey. It doesn't tell you what to do or how to do it. In fact, she doesn't presume to give advice or know the secret answers to weight loss. She just shares with everyone the ups and downs, the triggers and the successes. It was helpful for me to know I was not alone because often this is something that we suffer alone, unable to share with even those closest in our lives.

Her story is inspiring, it's realistic (no matter what country you live in), and it's hopeful. It brought real tears to my eyes as well as real laughter, not just at her stories and anecdotes but I was finally able to laugh at myself. I've lost 63 pounds this past year and I have 22 more to go...I've been on a plateau for months, this was the book I needed to find the inspiration to just be human again. ...more info
  • I would not reccomend this book.
I purchased this book and two others to keep me motivatated during my own weight loss journey.I have lost about ninet pounds and I am always looking for things that encourage me to "stay the course!" While I think this book is well written I actually found it somewhat depressing. The author CONSTANTLY refers to her weight and her body in the harshest, most critical verbage possible. While it may be intended to be funny and colorful I actually felt put down by it.Afterall,I have a similar body and face similar changes.I was actually surprised that even after she lost a great deal of weight her self descriptions were so hateful. It left a bad taste in my mouth and for me it over shadowed the positive aspects of the book.If you are on this journey I encourage you to seek out stories that inspire but I believe this book might actually cause a set back....more info
  • Funny, Entertaining, and Informative
I purchased this book on a whim in the train station before a 7-hour train trip, intrigued by the concept of a book based on blog entries. Because of the title, I thought this book would basically be a "how I lost a lot of weight" story, but in the end, it was so much more. The author's blogs tie together her life's journey from an overweight and unhappy woman living in Australia, to a vibrant adventurer living in Europe and travelling throughout the world. The tranformation journey is craftily described by the author, who is thoughtful and witty. For those hoping to lose weight, this book is inspirational. Shauna lost half her body weight over the course of several years, using various methods described in the book. Ultimately, however, what I took away from the book is that to become the people we want to be, we must be willing to take risks, work hard, and accept ourselves - regardless of our size. 5 stars - a wonderful read....more info
  • Excellent!
This is a wonderful and relateable book. I read Shauna's blog faithfully, and enjoyed this even more than I thought I would! It's wonderfully honest with an adorable romance. I highly recommend it!...more info
