A charming gift for expectant parents, Oh Baby, the Places You'll Go is designed to be an in utero introduction to the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss. Adapted from his works, and touching on them all from Horton to Who-ville, author Tish Rabe has maintained Seuss's style perfectly. Your baby is the unnamed star of the book, and reading directly to your tummy becomes easy with lines like "the words I am saying you hear in your heart, and know that I wish you the very best start." Filled with the good doctor's whimsical illustrations, you'll find all your favorite characters, with a short rhyme that mentions each one--and just enough direct quotations to get those infants stimulated when you read Seuss's whole books to them at a later date. --Jill Lightner
Artfully extracted and adapted almost entirely from Ted Geisel's work, this
is a must for all expectant parents - and introduction to the wonderful
world of Dr. Suess for their adorable baby-to-be. Exciting new discoveries are
being made all the time about how much learning takes place while a baby is
still in its mother's womb, and Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go! makes
the perfect welcome! It's never too early to start them on a rich and healthy
regimen of good ol' Dr. Seuss.
A Must-Have Primer to Dr. Seuss' Fanciful World My mother gave me this book when I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I read it frequently to our son (now 3) in utero. I have since purchased it for every expectant parent I know. If you love Dr. Suess, and are expecting, you must have this book.
The book is a short compilation of Dr. Suess favorites. It introduces the newcomer to all the imaginative characters of Dr. Seuss' creative mind. It's also great practice for parents-to-be to get back into the swing of reading aloud. The beauty of the book is in its rhythm and rhyming, which captivate the developing mind of a child. Our son who was read this book in utero is now a book fanatic and constantly makes up rhyming words. I believe this is a direct result of his exposure to this and other Seuss books....more info
Love reading to baby on the way I have really enjoyed reading this sweet fun little book to my baby on the way. The way it is written is very creative and just a joy to read....more info
Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go! I love The Places You'll Go! and when I saw this book, I grabbed it for my daughter in law. I believe reading to a child is one of the most important things that can be done to prepare them for what lies ahead. What a great way to begin, while still in Utero. The sound of a familar voice and the beginning of a special time between child and parent (or grandparen't, sibling, etc.) that will hopefully continue through their life. I don't always care for Dr. Seuss, but this is a book that speaks from the heart. The book is smaller than most, but then it's for in Utero!...more info
just an advertisement I love Dr. Seuss more than anybody. I have almost all of his books. I was so very disappointed with this book. I searched for it while I was pregnant with my first child but could only find Oh, The Places You'll Go! which I love. When I became pregnant again I finally found this book only for it to basically be an advertisement for all the other books. I guess I had expected it to be meaningful like Oh, The Places You'll Go! So for anybody out there that is expecting it to be similar, it is not. It is probably a good book for most, but for me it was just a disappointment....more info
A wonderful gift for the expectant parents! I purchased this to give to my soon to be daughter-in-law as a fun item to include in a package I was sending her. I always liked the original version of this Dr. Seuss book and was excited about this one.
It is a very cute book and I love the story. I think the size of it makes it easy for you to hang onto and pass on. Definitely pick one up for the Dr. Seuss lover to start their baby out early....more info
A Great Gift! My mom and I were trying to find a few gifts to give my pregnant sister before she had her baby shower, and when I saw this book, I knew she'd love it. And I was right! She's been reading the book to her soon-to-be baby boy ever since. A real treat for any woman expecting who grew up with Dr. Seuss' books. Don't pass this one up!...more info
This was the sweetest pregnancy gift I received ... This makes a perfect gift for the mother-to-be ... whether this is her first baby or fifth! It is a lovely way to get dad reading to the baby. As it says on the cover "a book to be read in utero". I swear my baby responded. It is darling ... and a MUST HAVE for that special pregnant woman in your life. It makes a perfect "congratulations on your pregnancy" gift....more info
Dads to Be: BUY THIS Dads to be will score major sensitivity points with mom to be if they buy this book. The down side, dad, is that you'll be asked to read the book to mom's stomach - but it's a relatively quick read. All kidding aside, reading this book to your in-utero baby is a bonding experience. Moms start those feelings a lot sooner than dads. This book is a chance for dads to start bonding with the baby even before feeling the baby kick for the first time. And, as I suggested earlier, mom will feel really good about dad showing this kind of interest. ...more info
awesome baby shower gift This book was given to me at my baby shower and I still look back and think it was the cutest gift I received. I love it, and now send one to all of my mom-to-be friends. And they love it!!!...more info
Fabulous book for any family to share before baby's arrival! This book was wonderful while I was pregnant! My husband read to our son every night before bed and as our son grew his responses to his father's voice grew. How amazing it was to see that connection being made before they could even see each other! My son will be one this month and he is still fascinated with books and our voices. This is a great addition to that big pile of pregnancy books you have next to the bed in anticipation of the big day!!...more info
Fantastic as well as emotional! I received this book as a gift from a coworker when I was about 4 months pregnant. I have read it almost daily to my unborn child and I love the feeling it gives me to read it and know that my child is listening! I am almost 6 months pregnant, and with the baby kicking me constantly, I am reminded that he wants to hear his favorite book! I love the creativity within this book, the emotions it brings while reading it, and the idea that my child is reading already! It isn't expensive nor does it take all day to read. Highly recommended!...more info
Not very cute or interesting Sure it rhymes, but it was so small a child would not find it stimulating (tiny drawings). Mostly, it just referred to other Seuss books, without telling a story or anything. If you are going to read to a baby in the womb, you have a captive audience. Why not read Shakespeare, Milton or something more educational?...more info
size i just wish i knew the book was tiny. but i do like what its all about....more info
A wonderful book This book is so wonderful. My mom bought this for me when I first found out I was pregnant with my son. My husband would read it to the baby all the time and it made it a wonderful family bonding time.
Now that my best friend is going to have a baby I am going to pass a long the tradition of having this book to read to the baby before it is born. And I know she is gonna love it....more info
Okay for babies in utero, but less so for older kids. Our kids love Dr. Seuss in general, but this book hasn't been popular. Part of the problem is that many of the concepts are abstract and advanced, and thus difficult for kids ages 2-6 to grasp even with explanations. This is okay if you are reading the book to babies "in utero", as the cover suggests you do, but not for those who've learned to talk. The other problem is that the language, pace, and imagery are not up to the standards established in the earlier Seuss books. It's as if, near the end of Theodore Geisel's life, others were ghost-writing and attempting to imitate his style.
My advice: Stick with Sneetches, Horton, Bartholomew, the Cat in the Hat, Yertle and all the rest, and leave this on the shelf after your kid starts to talk....more info
Oh, Baby Great Seuss book. Recently took it to our daughter in Germany who is pregnant. We will not be there for the birth so Grandad read to the baby. Great way to bond and make it all real....more info
The best gift you can give expecting parents I received this book with my first pregnancy and have since given it to every single pregnant friend I know (I buy several at a time and save on shipping.) It is funny, perfectly Dr. Seuss, and fun to read to your thumping belly. Best of all, it is small, colorful, and embodies all the joy and anticipation you feel as you wait on your baby. And because it is Seuss, your older children can read it to their sibling-to-be....more info
A book for the whole family My husband read this book to our baby in utero during my first pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my second child, we read the book as a family to the new baby. My toddler loves the book and loved reading it to her new baby. This book has become a bedtime favorite....more info
A great way to involve a new father! My husband and I are expecting our first child, and I bought him this book as a surprise. This was a great purchase! It's a compilation of various Dr. Seuss characters and phrases, and the forward was written by the late Dr. Seuss' wife. It's a small, pocket-size book, and it's a great addition to your library! My husband reads it most nights to our son. Once he's finally here, and a bit older, I look forward to showing him this special book. I plan on taking him through each line, and showing him which real Dr. Seuss book we've read that corresponds! This is such a cute idea, I highly recommend it!...more info
Reading from the beginning... While we are both avid readers, my husband and I were definately moved at the idea of reading to our baby while in utero. It was a great way to start reading all those wonderful books again and learning the language that we had let go. Our child has not stopped looking at books and learning from them. Now she is a year and we are thrilled that she picks up books all the time. Thanks Dr. Seuss!...more info
It's Adorable I too really enjoy reading this book to my unborn. It is short, sweet and uplifting. The perfect book to lift up your child. ...more info
Great for a baby in utero, but...... Not too great for a toddler!!! When I first ordered this book, I thought it was the original one, not one that was to be read in utero. I was also suprised at how tiny the book was.
I got this book AFTER my daughter was born, so I never actually got the chance to read it to her while she was still in the womb. I recently started to read this book to my daughter a few months ago, she was a little over 1 year.
She dosen't seem to enjoy it very much and I think the book is way too long to hold her interest. I also think some of the language and rhyming is a little hard for her to grasp.
My recommendation is that if you want to purchase this book, do it while your baby is in utero and read it to him/her until the birth. After the birth, get the original version....more info
Oh Baby is Adorable!! My husband and I curled up on the sofa and read this ever so catchy book to our unborn baby. Maybe it's because I'm a first time mom, but sitting there, sharing something with this little amazing baby growing inside of me, it was just amazing. The book flows from page to page and keeps you smiling from beginning to end. I recommend it to all parents, especially first timers!...more info
The Perfect Baby Shower Gift Of all the gifts my wife and I received for our first baby, this was undoubtedly the best. Not only did it give me, a first time father, the chance to bond with our son, it gave both of us a great deal to think about as well. Today, a year later, I can't even think about this book without a tear coming to my eyes. I highly recommend it for any parents-to-be, and it truly makes a gift that will last a lifetime....more info
Oh Baby, here's a list of Dr. Suess characters... While this book starts off cute, it is a far cry from capturing the spirit of the original "Oh, the Places You'll Go." While the original is inspirational , the baby version is not much more than a laundry list of Dr. Suess characters the baby will meet when Mom and Dad read to it. There really is nothing inspirational or exceptional about it. When my husband was reading it to the baby, I kept waiting to tear up with the hope it would promise. Instead, I grew impatient waiting for him to finish the long long list of Dr. Suess characters the baby will meet. Definitely not at all what we expected. ...more info
Adorable! I got this when I was pregnant with my son, and I loved it. I especially loved the encouragement to read to him while I was pregnant. I was amazed to see that some reviewers gave it low stars for being too small. Since when does that matter?
And I guess you have to be a Seuss fan, because there are a lot of references to Seuss characters, but I loved that. Thanks for a great book!...more info
A must-read for the next generation of Seuss-lovers I bought this gift-sized book for my son and his wife who are expecting in December. Of course, I read it first....true to Suess style and so cute! My grandson won't be here until December, but he's already getting an earful of Dr. Seuss every day, and my son and his wife are starting the wonderful practice of reading to their child....more info
meh it's a giant commercial for the other Dr Seuss books. Get the originals $ save yourself the cash...more info
Oh, Baby, the Places You'll Go! If you are interested in starting a library for your new baby of Dr. Seuss books, this book is important to have. It is a nice introduction for baby for the Dr.Seuss books to come. I myself am soon to be a new mom and have started a Dr. Seuss library and I am so glad I came across this book at the book store....more info
