Product Description

Every toddler goes through the stage where they want nothing but "O"-shaped cereal. The challenge for parents is getting kids to ask for fruit salad instead of cupcakes. Faced with this seemingly impossible task with her own child, Jennifer Carden has created The Toddler Caf , a guide to making mealtime with children fun and interactive. It offers simple, creative ways for kids to identify with their food, like saying tuna salad is what mermaids eat, or making Minty Pea Pops in ice cube trays. Carden has created over 50 unique recipes that encourage families (including toddlers) to work together to prepare, eat, clean up, and best of all, look forward to a healthy, delicious meal.

  • Not impressive... sorry
I was anxious to get this book, and when I got it I felt nothing, but disappointment. It's confusing, not every recipe has a photo, those photos that are there are not very well made. May be I'm spoiled by the beautiful kids recipe book that I already have and was expecting for something if not better, than equal. But this one is so far behind, that I didn't even want to look at it twice. Recipes are not something worth much attention either, it's not something you need to buy a book for.
I regret this purchase. ...more info
  • AWESOME cookbook!
Wow!!! This book is amazing! I have made about 5 of the recipes so far, and they have been great! 4 of the 5 have been very simple. One took a little more time, but made a larger quantity than the others. If have 2 daughters (ages 4yrs. and 17 mo.) They are loving all of the new foods. I have bought things in the past couple of weeks that I NEVER would have bought before, and if I had, I wouldn't have had any idea what to do with them. But these recipes are great! Some of them look a bit strange but I've tried atleast one of the "strange" ones, and even it was great! I have tried all of the recipes myself and they have been really good. It's been a GREAT way get more variety and more fruits and veggies into our diets. I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! It has comments on the side of each recipe on variations you can do, and if there are any ingredients that aren't common, it talks about it and where in the store to find it. This is one of the BEST cookbooks I have EVER seen... Not just for kids! ...more info
  • Pea Pancakes Rock!
So far, my 12-month old has liked everything I've made from this cookbook. At her age, I would say there are only about a handful of appropriate recipes for her... but I look forward to trying others as she gets older. I've especially liked the veggie recipes (wish there were even more for veggies) because they get her to eat veggies - the boiled carrots weren't doing it for her and I was getting bored of feeding her avocado every night! Anyway, the recipes are easy to follow and come out tasty (or so I can tell, in her opinion)....more info
  • Good Book, but not all it's cracked up to be
Toddler Caf¨¦ is a very nice cookbook. If you are trying to get your kids interested in healthier menu items. My daughter (3) doesn't have a problem not eating healthy. I found the items to not be made in a timely fashion. I consider myself to be a learning chef and I have many ingredients on hand. If I was going to make these meals I would have to make sure that I pick recipes before I go to the grocery store. There are not many substitues for the type of things you need. If you don't have a problem doing those things then definately buy this book. Otherwise try something else....more info
  • Your child enjoy healthy meals without being duped!
As a former early childhood educator, I was a little dismayed about the trend to sneak healthy foods into children's meals. In my years of working with young children, I found that their palates are much more sophisticated than we know.

By preparing a limited menu and keeping them out of the process, parents unwittingly create picky eaters who'll explode at anything but chicken fingers, cereal, and peanut butter sandwiches. If you cook yummy healthy meals, they will eat them! Of course, some foods might take a few tries and incarnations, but isn't that how you learned to love avocados, brussel sprouts, fish, and other formerly yucky stuff?

I love that Jennifer Carden has such respect for the littlest budding gourmets. I really enjoyed flipping through the inventive and inspired recipes in this book. Can't wait to try them out with my favorite tiny chefs!...more info

  • Great Cookbook
This book has been very helpful. My 17 month old daughter is not a picky eater, but she gets moody with her food. One day she'd eat a plateful of green beans and grilled chicken, but a few days later she'd refuse to eat any of it, and throws them on the floor. I was running out of ideas for meals for her, because it seemed like she likes her meals to be different constantly. That was the reason I got this book. So far, she loves all the recipes that I've tried, and the recipes are super simple, healthy, quick, and easy. ...more info
