Customer Reviews:

  • This is good for the basic nuts and bolts info but...
There is a lot of repetition of the same info throughout the book. Also, some of the links he provides are dead ones, so you can't get to some of the sites. However for the person who knows absolutely NOTHING about where to begin as far as a cleanup--it's not a bad book to start with.

I'm not saying Trudeau is a bad person, I believe he wrote this with good intentions, but the book itself is what falls short. It is poorly written. He would have fared better by not using the "cures" here, because most of it is common sense information.

If you already have a working knowledge of how credit cards work and where to start in fixing your problems, THEN by all means, get somethign else...Like I said, a lot of the information in this book is constantly repetitive......more info

  • There's a sucker born every minute
Who does this man think is the "they" who don't want you to know anything? Is this the first book on personal finance or debt ever written? I believe Amazon offers over a thousand more (and just about all better) books on this and similar subjects.
I have probably read more financial books than Mr. Trudeau, and I'm sure I could take enough info from those books and write my own book. Then, I hook you with the "I've got the secrets 'they' don't want you to know!" line he uses for everything he sells. That's basically what this book is, a compilation of much better personal finance books.

  • Worthless waste of money
Very little "cures" in this book, mostly way too many pages on how the credit lending industry is out to rob you. Only decent advice is calling to and asking for reduction in your interest rate. The one bright spot for me was the "Free Money!" chapter, and most of those tips were blind leads. ...more info
  • Debt Cures by Kevin Trudeau
Like so many of Kevin Trudeau's late-night 'infommercials' this book contains LOTS of 'sound-bite' solutions, but little of NO specifics!

And my guess is he needed to add pages to this ho-hum text to make the price seem realistic so he added the 'GRANTS' chapter at the ending???

Bottomline this was a clumsy, wandering retelling of debt/credit tactics one could find online for 'free'....more info
  • Garbage
I suspect Kevin Trudeau or his agents are writing positive reviews for this book. I read it and kept waiting to find useful information. I think the book can be summed up in a good paragraph. He had such helpful hints in there like borrow money from friends and family to pay down debts.Oh and here's a good one, pay your debts on time. Call your creditors and tell them you have no money. I'll admit it may be a good idea to show a balance sheet proving you have no money but I don't expect the card companies to surrender and let the debt go. Most of his advice is common sense and only the most obtuse person would find this 300 page read worthwhile. ...more info
  • debt cures
too basic for anyone who is not totally green to consumer finance. don't get it if you are qualified to balance a check book, pay your bills on time, etc. i got the audio book cd and the author made the mistake of reading it himself. he probably should have hired a professional reader. the cadence is a bit annoying. of also, the bashing of the credit card companies is a bit much. it is written from the perspective that consumers should not be expected to have any accountability for the decisions they make and the contracts they enter. if the author had his way with they credit card companies, no one would ever lend money to consumers because doing so would be a financial loser....more info
  • If it's anything like "Natural Cures...
I have to admit I have not read this book but I was curious as I was, as in the past, "captivated" by the book's informercial. Having said that I will state that the reviews on this page confirm what I suspected... IF this book is anything close to his previous "Natural Cures..." book then, YES, it must be a crock... I fell for that "Cures" book in the past and, what a waste of money that was... Gotta hand it to Mr. Trudeau, he must be laughing all the way to the bank and knows it but, of course, won't admit it... I have written a few "how-to's" and would not be able to sleep at night if I felt I wrote something that was not true to the title or what I state the book will accomplish for the reader... but these are just opinions to which I'm entitled, any refutes Mr. Trudeau?... Hall of Shame indeed!...more info
  • Great book
Very easy to read. A lot of basic ideas we often forget to do. I love the scripts that are provided on how to ask for lower interest rates from credit card companies. The book provided some very easy ideas regarding bank fees which I have earned back over $300 and I am only 1/2 way through reading the book. That easily covers the cost of this book. Follow the guidelines on reviewing your credit. Pull all the free reports that is suggested. They really are free! I have found some mistakes already. My husband and I are looking to buy a house in 6-12 months so we want to make sure all are ducks are in a row. Good luck to you all!...more info
  • Not as many fresh ideas as I had hoped
I rarely right a negative review. But I bought this book hoping for some new sources or ideas. Unfortunatley the websites and resources he provides ar all available for free with a diligent websearch. SO far having serached for 3 days I have found nothing I qualify for.
Also a lot of his ideas are commen knowledge such as public assistance.
Not worth it the only one getting rich here is him

  • Nothing new or helpful
My local library had a copy of this book. I am glad I had a chance to read it before purchasing it. The title is misleading. It did not reveal any secrets. The information in this book has been published in hundreds of other books written on this subject. The book is 299 pages. In my opinion its 249 pages too long. The information could have written in 50 pages or less. The author spent a lot of time sharing stories about people who were in debt and how the debt affected them. These stories take up the bulk of the information in this book. Additionally, the solutions provided are the same solutions I have read from other books. Furthermore, anyone could get this information(solutions) for free by searching the internet. Do yourself a favor don't waste your time purchasing or reading this book....more info
  • Debt Cures
I found this book helpful in learning more facts and details and methods of dealing with the credit card debt. It will be helpful to me in counseling couples and individuals and I think this is a must read for teens getting ready for college or the real world. It would be nice for them to start off knowing the ropes instead of getting tangled in them. I have also helped others find funds to ease their financial burden. And I have benefited from reducing the interest rates on my cards and credit accounts. Thanks....more info

  • Debt Cures- I can't believe this guy is a best selling author. Book reads like infomercial
I'm about 90% through this book and it disbelief that I even keep reading it. I am truly amazed this guy is a best selling author. Well over 200 pages into the book- it's like he is still trying to sell you on the book. Listen jack***- I already bought your stupid book! There is no real content, nothing you haven't heard before. It reads very much like an infomercial sales pitch, or one of those junk mail flyers for the next consumer reports book- with a blurb about what miracle you are going to discover on page 72.

A couple hundred pages into the book, he is still telling you what he is going to tell you later. Yet it never really gets to any actual content. It's all fluff and endless self praise. I think Kevin T really thinks he is the second coming. Every page is full of empty empowerment phrases and announcements from your instant freedom from bondage now that you know his secret debt cure. (like call and ask if you can pay $2,000 instead of $30,000) I'm not sure if there a single paragraph in book that doesn't end with one of these "you are now released from enslavement for eternity and can commence to extreme wealth, thanks to me and my wonderful book" type phrases- followed by several exclamation points!!!

There was no need to kill this many trees. The book could be shortened to about 9 pages of actual content. This would include the front and back covers, publishing info, dedication, title page, chapter list, and index too.

Take the money you would of spent on this book, and apply it to your credit card with the highest interest rate....more info

  • OK book
I gave this book 3 stars because I did find a lot of info in it that I haven't seen in similar books. There are a couple of things that I disagree with though. One, there is NO such thing as good debt because all debt has interest. Save your money and purchase real estate and other ASSETS with cash. I also didn't agree with him in the first few chapters where he said to borrow money from family and friends to pay off debt. If something happens and you can't pay them back, there will be bad blood between you. The borrower is servant to the lender. If you want a book to really help you get out of debt the smart way I recommend "The Total Money Makeover" by Dave Ramsey. I followed his plan and I've never been so stress-free in my life. It's great to wake up knowing that if Murphy comes around I have the tools to send him on to somebody else....more info

  • Gets you inspired to fight back, at times repeatitive
This book gives a fair attempt at educating people on the fees, high interest and target population of the credit industry. It gives you general and broad ideas on how to get out of debt, not much detail, understandably since every case of debt can need a different approach. I think the book could have been half its length. Most of the numbers and research used was from popular interviews and documentaries, the language used is very simple and easy to understand which i think can be beneficial to more people, no just the highly educated. Good book, read it....more info

  • 1 star for what little insight he has.
This very repetative book won't be any help to anyone who is in financial trouble. Do yourself a favor and put away your credit card. Better you should make a larger payment to the bill with the highest interest rate. Here is the 300 pages in a nutshell...
    1) Ask your credit card company for a lower interest rate (good luck)
    2) Ask your credit card company for a higher credit limit (good luck)
    3) Don't miss any payments (duh!)
    4) Check your credit reports for errors (Duh, Duh!)
    5) Collections agencies act like bulies but really can't do much to you (he claims)
    6) Some debts can't be collected if they are too old (statute of limitations)
He has no magic formula. Not everyone who writes a book has expertise. This guy just found a good title and a topic that is hot. I bet he'll sell a bunch of copies. In my opinion, he is just as bad as the banks he rants endlessly about. ...more info

  • Save Your Money
The only one getting out of debt from this book is Kevin Trudeau. Did he even write this book himself? what a crock. If anyone doesn,t know half of this common sense crap they are morons. I seen this guy on TV also and I can,t believe I wasted my hard earned money buying this drivel. He has no information that was useful to me . The only thing that makes me more steamed in buying this book, is the time I wasted reading it. Life is tooo short.Doesn,t even deserve one star....more info
  • Simplistic and poorly written
Don't buy this book. I could clue you in on one page with all of the information---mostly common sense ideas you probably already know---contained within the covers of the book. While the author spends a lot of words and pages railing against the evil credit card companies, banks and the government, he ends up joining the crowd by marketing and selling this poorly written and weak book. The only thing this author provides is another meaningless outlet for your hard earned money. Kevin Trudeau seems proud of his anti-establishment, "I've received death threats" type of attitude but he thinks pretty highly of himself if he thinks the information in this book would result in a death threat. He's more likely to receive such a threat from a real author....more info

Great Book. ...more info
  • Debt Cures - Worth Reading
    [...]

I purchased this book after seeing it on an infomercial late one night. I was skeptical, but felt I had nothing to lose. I was so excited when it arrived, I started reading it right away and was not disappointed. The book is written so that anyone can understand it. I have read financial books in the past, and wondered what I had just read after flipping the page. I found several useful, practical tips from Kevin Trudeau that really do work. Like I said, I was skeptical at first, but when I applied what I learned from him in my own life - I was really excited that it actually worked. What was I so excited about? Saving lots of money, easily. I had told a co-worker about one of the tips, he tried it and saved even more than I did. The amount of money that I saved, far exceeded what I paid for this book. It was definitely worth the purchase!...more info
  • Amazing! Funny, plus he's easy on the eyes
Kevin takes a very boring subject matter and makes it interesting and humerous. Also, he got me fired up to get my credit report and start building my way towards wealth. • Lots of hype
I was disappointed. The book was very wordy with LOTS of repetition and the languaging full of "hype." After sifting through it all...there were really only a couple ideas - one of which I'd already heard him talk about on TV, and the other I already knew from my own research. 90% of the book is focused on what's wrong with the credit and lending industry - with only 10% "how to's." Learned my lesson buying a book after seeing an info-mercial! Save your money and rather pay it to one more bill...!...more info
