Product Description

Whether they are corporate professionals, budding entrepreneurs, or they own a home business, most people are looking to achieve more in less time, while earning enough money to live comfortably. This book reveals the proven techniques thousands of people have used to attain all of the money they wanted while living healthy, happy and balanced lives. The Power of Focus, the new blockbuster from the coauthors of the bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul, is a practical no-nonsense guide that shows readers how to reach their business, personal and financial goals without getting burned out in the process.

Canfield, Hansen, and Hewitt have taken the best ideas from their own successful careers (seventy-nine years of combined business expertise), and distilled them into ten powerful focusing principles. The result is a treasury of insights that is enjoyable to read and easy to understand. At the outset, the book identifies the three most important fundamentals for consistent success: developing unusual clarity; understanding that habits determine your future; and using a "no exceptions policy" approach to focus on what you want. Numerous anecdotes and inspiring stories help to reinforce each principle.

This is a must-read for business people, sales managers, entrepreneurs, and anyone who is serious about improving their personal awareness.

  • "I got the power"
I really like Jack Canfield as well as Janet Switzer his co-author on "The Success Principles"

As I was starting my business and hiring staff I was reading this book. Every single page I read was very relevant to what I was doing. The ideas were instrumental in helping me push my company onward and upward.

I highly recommend reading this and "The Success Principles"

  • This is not a Book, But a Manual for Life
I was very impressed with the Book, it is a step by step Manual on how to set up your Road Map for life. The best Part of the Book is the Action Steps at the end of each Chapter. IF you purchase this book just to Read it, you will have made a good purchase, but if you Follow the Action Steps, and Make out your Charts you will feel how great this Book is.

The Book is Filled with many stories and examples of use from the Authors, and Other individuals who have accomplished major success with these Principles.

Very helpful book. For years I had thought that I was "flying by the seat of my pants" in my private practice. This book helped me plan and carry out a business structure that really works for me. I attend to many different areas (personal, health, relationship, contribution, etc.) in my life with direction. • Great book for entrepreneurs
The creators of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen, have teamed up with top performance coach Les Hewitt to create The Power of Focus, a step-by-step guide to making your dreams become reality and creating the life you want.

In order to get the most out of the information in this book, one must first realize this: "Success takes effort and consistent, focused activity." (quoted directly from the book)

In a nutshell, that's essentially what the book is all about, and it is only worth reading if one understands and agrees with that statement and is willing to put it into action. The "Power of Focus" is not something to just read and then think about; it is a set of instructions for doing the things necessary to achieve your goals

Each chapter describes specific strategies and techniques, and includes motivating stories about real people who have implemented and succeeded with those techniques. At the end of the chapter is a set of Action Steps, which condenses the strategies into an easy-to-follow instructional format. In addition to a well laid action plan for success, the book also provides loads of suggestions for additional reading to help keep one motivated and continuously learning. All in all, "The Power of Focus" is easy to read and understand, and is quite motivational as well.

While the book seems to be geared toward self-starters, business owners, entrepreneurs and the like, there is something of value in it for everyone. Most, if not all, of the techniques described in this book could be used with respect to any goal, be it business, financial, or personal. For someone who is stuck in any aspect of life and not sure how to effect change, reading and implementing the techniques defined in "The Power of Focus" could definitely help....more info
  • Great 'how to' book
A good summary of many of the self-improvement books I have read over the past few years. The Power of Focus is more like a workbook with exercises at the end of each chapter.
The main gist is to help you understand that what holds you back in life is habits, patterns or belief systems about what you 'can' and 'cannot' do. Luckily its all changeable, so the book takes you through step by step activities to help you change your out-moded habits into empowering ones - great!
The book is written in easy to follow language. I like the cleanness of the layout and many stories ala Chicken Soup. Its very easy to digest, and a good overview of where you are in life!

  • A wealth of insights, anecdotes, and stories
In The Power Of Focus, Jack Canfield, Mark Victor Hansen & Les Hewitt effectively collaborate and combine their seventy-nine years of business expertise to articulate ten powerful principles for setting and achieving personal, business, and financial objectives. A wealth of insights, anecdotes, and stories serve to enhanc their provision of fundamentals such as developing clarity, understanding habits, and learning how to focus on goals. The Power Of Focus is enthusiastically recommended for anyone charged with an entrepreneurial or managerial responsibility in today's highly competitive (and distractive) marketplace. • Mental Focus and Absolute Certainty: Vital Success Factors!
This is a small departure from the Chicken Soup series although the packaging is similar. It appears to the knowledgable self-help reader that this book is probably 98% Les Hewitt and 1% Canfield and Hansen. While the book is packed with stories, cartoons, diagrams, questionaires, and order forms, I did not find this book to be a very enjoyable, easy or compelling read. I think it is a valuable addition to a personal development library, but the average person will get bogged-down in it....at least that's my humble opinion....more info
  • The Focus is on separating you from your money
This book has a some great ideas (hire assistants for everything mundane, so you have time to be brilliant) for brilliant and rich people.

Unfortunately, like most of us, I have yet to find anything I'm brilliant at. And, I cant afford personal trainers, life coaches, tax specialists, and especially my own Personal Mastermind Group. If I could, I wouldnt need this book's advice.

With one exception (thats how it earned 2 stars instead of one), the ideas in this book are kinda useless for normal people. In addition, I was disappointed by the lack of real life experiences that I saw in Canfields early works, and I think maybe he ran out of stories. Didnt find this book to be compelling or enjoyable.

Conclusion: Title should read 'Sell Books on Focus and Get Rich!'...more info

  • Best Self Help Book on the Market
The Power of Focus is a concise and powerful call to action. • Best of the self-help titles
In my opinion the best of the self-help books because it's about thinking, planning, and doing, and avoids most of the metaphysics that muddle up so many other books. The authors concentrate on habits, goals, and focus. Habits lead us in a particular direction and by setting goals we choose that direction. Once we know where we want to go we can develop new habits that lead along that path. Using focus we can keep at our new habits and reach our goals.

I also like that the authors squarely face the fact that this is hard work. Almost everything is against you: your own self, your relations, your business: almost everything functions to keep the status quo but the authors offer several helps for staying on your course. There's quite a bit of space given over to questionnaires intended to help determine your goals, etc. I don't usually find these helpful but I'm sure that many people do.

And excellent book - highly recommended....more info

I just finished reading this book for the third time! I found this book to contain the real-world, practical steps I needed to bring my life into balance. This book is my new business bible! It's absolutely the best book I have ever read on how to stay on track, find balance, and create not only a business that is in alignment with your desires and goals, but a better lifestyle!

It's an easy read and it actually tells you how to make these changes in a way that make sense and really work! After the first read, I've already made two major changes in my life that are giving me more balance; regular exercise, and making more time for family and friends. And I know that there will much more to come!

  • THIS I can do!
I borrowed this book from a library then-- I bought it! I am not into the deep, affirmation type of books and this is NOT one of those at all. It is a step by natural step guide to gaining control of YOUR actions and inactions. It gave me a view- then a plan of what I needed to change in everyday actions. It is great for everyone who feels things never get finished, forget to do important things, feel guilty for inactivity, make a To Do list and never get past the first item. • "I loved this book-You will too!"
What a wonderful book on self-improvement. After reading many books in this genre, it's still refreshing to read a winner. The three authors that composed this book share years and years of combined experience. If you want to improve your life, you must focus on where you want to be, and what the benefits will be reaped as you achieve your goals. Change is difficult, I know that as well as anybody. What I do know, however, is that change is possible-and probable if we constantly work on it. One shortcoming that I found was that the book focused more on business than personal improvement. Oh well, the sub-title states, "How To Hit Your Business, Personal and Financial Targets with Absolute Certainty", so I really can't complain. In reading this book, the reader is asked to complete a series of questions following each chapter. I did not complete this as of my first reading. I'm certain that even more can be gleaned from honestly answering each of the questions. I will re-read and assess my life in a future reading. Happy reading!...more info
  • Becomes better in every page
It was a great discovery to find so many insightful recommendations for self-knowledge in a very clear, simple and effective way.
Few books have impressed me by the effort displayed by the authors to be clearly understood through examples and recommended readings.
I am sure that just by reading it, my life has now a different perspective.

  • A well written and compleat life improvement book
I expected to read something that just taught me how to get more focused and thus perform better on a specific task. Instead I read a life improvement book with good stories (many drawn from Chicken Soup of the Soul books), wise sayings, well organised action plans and interesting comics presented in the strategic steps/order/chapter preached by the authors as follows:-

    1. Your habits will determine your future
    2. It's not hocus-pocus. It's all about focus
    3. Do you see the big picture?
    4. Building excellent relationships
    5. The confidence factor
    6. Ask for what you want
    7. Consistent persistence
    8. Taking decisive action
    9. Living on purpose

You might think this is just a normal self help book. Well, it is. As the devil is in the details, so is the angel. With the authors' outstanding writing and story telling skills shown by the Chicken Soup series, in case you want to read a compleat self help book, you will be satisfied.

This is another one of those books that needs to be in your library that you can continue to reference. It is filled with pages and pages of incredible thoughts that you can start using today to transform your life.

Here's an example of one that caught my attention...Clearly identify your bad or unproductive habits. It's important that you really think about the future consequences of your bad habits. Consider the long term consequences, and then take the appropriate action to start changing that habit.

Very well written book and worth every second of your time....more info

  • The roadmap to success.
I say that this book is a "Roadmap" to success because the terrain itself is quite familiar. It's all been said before: set goals, replace bad habits with good habits, build a mastermind group, etc. However, unlike other books of this genre, the authors of "The Power of Focus" have charted a course for the reader to follow. Instead of just telling you "what", they also tell you "how." It doesn't get any simpler than this--I'm still waiting for a book that only requires that you read it and then suddenly money just starts appearing out of nowhere.

At the end of each chapter, the authors have provided action steps for the reader to take. I personally really needed just this kind of systematic, organized approach to mastering many of these principles--I'm an amazingly creative procrastinator. The book, therefore, is kind of like a personal coach, available at any time. If you truly apply all of the principles--and it will be easier for you to do so if you actually follow the action steps at the end of each chapter--then you will likely succeed in your endeavors....more info

  • Another great book by Jack Canfield
This book just like many of the book talking about success, but it is designed into a more systematic way. Each chapter has an action plan for one to follow. Although many books talk about positive thought and goal settings, few of them can be presented like this book. As I just bought this book from Amazon and already eager to try the methods it teaches. For example, I have many area to be improved, many things to be done, and I have ignored many important relationship. This book is full of checklists and guide me step by step to success, not only in money and career, but my living. You can also find Jack's "Dare to win" and his tape of "Making your dreams come true" worthing reading and listening...more info

  • short on substance
Well I read it. Thought about it. Made some notes, and actually slept on my thoughts before submitting this. To date I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from Mark Victor Hansen's work. Although there are some credible idea's in 'The Power of focus', most of the material appears to be somewhat academic, lacking in regular substance and heavily weighed towards this Les Hewitt guy in promoting his Achiever's company. With that I am disappointed. I purchased this book on Mr. Hansen's credibility and past success's of previous work. I discovered a few distinctions however the writing was not as defined, clearcut and experiential as Mr. Hansen normally comes across. Over promoted and underwritten....more info
  • Great advice, easy to read, easy to apply
I found this book valuable. First it is easy to read, and second, the advice and techniques are easy to apply. I have just gone back and read it a second time and found yet more items of value.

What I particularly liked about the book:
    1) It summarizes and integrates the advice of other success writers into an easy to follow action guide.
    2) There were lots of easy-to-apply techniques.
    3) How to prioritize your goals.
    4) The Goal Picture book.
    5) The importance of scheduling private time.

If you want to set and accomplish personal goals, this book is highly recommended.

  • Do you want to improve your life?
If so, then this book will give you the tools to do so. It is clear, concise, and a very easy read. It explains 10 "focusing" strategies that are to be used to guide your actions. Then, at the end of each chapter, some exercises are given to help get you started on applying each of these strategies.

Do these strategies work? From personal experience I can give a resounding yes! The trick is, you have to believe in yourself, and the tools this book provides to make it happen. There is no magic, quick fix here. If you don't think it really works, likely you're just afraid to try.

Remember: If you want a better life, change MUST happen; starting with yourself. So, get over your fear, and get on with a better life!...more info

  • Excellent read - with great explanations...
If you are new to life planning, dont miss this book. I had done over 80% of the things indicated in the book, yet I found the book very enjoyable.

The thing I liked most was that the book lets you interact with it. There is plenty of space for you to do the exercises and write down your answers. Dont worry about right or wrong.

If you are serious about making the book work for you, you must follow the instructions. After reading the book, skim through it again; if your handwriting does not show on at least 30% of the pages, you have not done what you were supposed to do. In that case you will derive only a fraction of the true benefits it has to offer.

  • Maybe the best self-help book of them all.
Sometimes in life, you find a real gem. Like the moment when you knew without any doubt you had found the person you would spend your life with. If you have never read THE POWER OF FOCUS by Canfield, Hanson and Hewitt, you just stumbled across one of life's little gems. This book has the ability to unleash the greatness within you that has been there all along, just waiting to be unleashed.

Don't get me wrong, you're not going to read this book and have your life miraculously change. I believe the authors say it best in their final words. "All the strategies we have shared with you really work. They can dramatically change your life for the better. But only if you choose to use them".

The book focuses on ten strategies to help you reach your maximum potential in your business, personal and financial life. Some of these strategies may sound simplistic to you at first, but putting deodorant on a fever blister to draw out the moisture sounds simplistic too. The point is, simple can often achieve the results your looking for. There's no sense in over-complicating things.

Each of the ten strategies are outlined in their own chapter and followed by practical "action steps" to coach you along. You will find other exercises as well. I recommend buying this book along with a spiral notebook. You'll need it.

If you're ready to take actionable steps in improving every aspect of your life, this book is definitely for you.

  • This should be in everyones library, a must read
I have a library with hundreds of books in it. If I were told I could only keep 10 books, this would be one of them. If you are a manager of other people, you must read this book. Then find a way to share it with others. You will find a powerful chapter related to goal setting and performance. " If you do not set goals, someone else will set them for you" The book goes on to tell the story of a man who was a dentist and hated his work. He said that his mother wanted him to be a dentist so she chose his education and career path. Now as an adult male, he hated his work and confessed he never wanted to be a dentist. I see people every day who are trapped in jobs they never wanted or doing things they dont want to do simply becuase they failed to understand the pinciples in this book. There is much more content than just goal setting. There are powerfull tools to help you with time managment, decision making, and sections to help you discover who you are and what you really should be doing with your skills and talents.
