  • Recommended Reading for All Americans
If I were a school teacher, I would make his book mandatory reading for all children. It tells about our wonderful American history in clear and easy to read language; things that seem to be missing from history books today that are so important for all Americans to know and understand. I was very impressed with the author's knowledge, his true patriotism and straight-forward explanation of today's problems and how they can be solved. He uses good clear common sense in solving issues.

  • The Game Plan America Needs
This book should be the new game plan for America. We have deluded ourselves into believing that we know better; better than the life lessons of the bible, better than the wisdom of our founding fathers, better than previous generations like "The Great Generation" who defeated the Nazis or the first generation who defeated the British and established this country.

Chuck Norris has an agenda with this book. It is the agenda of our founders. And yet for most young people or even those in their thirties or forties today, it is hard to swallow because it is steeped in the truths of our founders and of common sense and proven reality.

Mr. Norris simplifies in his book what others would prefer to complicate. He lays out the basic, irrefutable problems with today's America. The problems he points out are the stuff of today's headlines. But rather than dwell on doom and gloom, he quickly turns our compass to an optimistic heading that points back to true North. We have clearly lost our way and "Black Belt Patriotism" helps us find it again. Every other celebrity gets their air time and national attention for their generally uninformed views and solutions for our nation's or world's problems. We are constantly bombarded by ill-concevied solutions derived from view points that are not fully informed with facts. Chuck Norris should be given equal time on all major networks to address the issues he has addressed in this book along with the solutions. They are the issues that we are all saddled with.

Mr. Norris proposes that we study, embrace and return to the actual principles that give us the freedoms we enjoy, but that are slowly being eroded. Mr. Norris makes beautiful use of numerous quotes, with context, from our founders to provide a real history lesson to the reader. He shows us in very clear terms, where we have strayed from basic principles, values and morality (Yes, there is a right and wrong - for society to function and be sustained we must be bound by structure, discipline, rules and the morality upon which the country was founded.)

He does not dump on America, but shows us where we have issues and then provides an optimistic view for the future, if we all get involved. Chuck Norris may be a conservative, but his views and his actions demonstrate immense compassion for others and for America. His efforts involving programs such as his beloved Kickstart program are evidence of this. Mr. Norris is highly compassionate toward America and those who want to get out of the rut and make a better life for themselves and virtually anyone can if they are not deluded into thinking that all of the good things in life should simply be entitlements. What we are entitled to is to strive and reach as high as we care to dream.

What is so refreshing about this book is that people can empower themselves with a return to the basics, the values and principles that are already ours - that our founders and every previous generation has fought to pass on to us. His book does not call for a purely government solution, but a solution embraced by individuals; a solution where the common man rises to the occaision as they always have througout our history.

These are not abstract arguments for philosophical debate, they are the hallmarks of what this county is all about and the anchors to which we must re-attach ourselves if we are to avoid a slow, but inevitable descent into a country living in bondage introduced by ignoring what made us great. Our freedoms in all areas of life are being eliminated or lost the further we depart from the values and principles of old and that is what scares Mr. Norris.

If you love freedom and you love America and opportunity and you have hopes and dreams for a better life - build it yourself, empower yourself and get started today. Become a force for good in your own life, your family and community. Read Chuck Norris's Black Belt Patriotism - and then read it again and make yourself a list of personal goals, rules and dreams so that you too can make your life and America great!

    Thanks Chuck!

  • One of the best books I've ever read...Chuck really did his homework on this one!
My family & I have been Chuck Norris fans for years. We've seen every movie he's made & we rarely missed an episode of "Walker, Texas Ranger." The first time I heard about him was in the late 60's or early 70's, when karate schools bearing his name were opening all over the country. In this same time frame, I saw him conduct a karate demonstration on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.

My son is a 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, the martial arts system Chuck learned in Korea & then taught in the USA. He (my son) bought the book, read it & recommended it to me. "Black Belt Patriotism: How to Reawaken America" has to be one of the best books I've ever read, & I found it difficult to put down once I started reading it. To say that Chuck hit the nail on the head is an understatement. This book was very well researched & should be required reading for anyone who loves this country & is concerned about the direction in which it's going. Chuck Norris is to be commended for having the intestinal fortitude to "tell it like it is" & for his willingness to put his neck on the chopping block if that's what it's going to take to wake us up to what's going on in America & what we need to do to fix it.

Although I learned about the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution when I was in junior high, it was gratifying to be able to re-read them in their entirety in this book nearly 50 years later. I remember being required to memorize the preamble to the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights, & portions of the Declaration of Independence. Unfortunately, today's schoolchildren rarely learn about the history of our country because it's not considered to be politically correct or relevant, with the end result that it's been so watered down as to be almost non-existent. Examples of this can be seen in the various "man on the street" interviews conducted over the years by Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. He'll ask a young individual a question such as "who was the father of our country?" & the individual will react with a blank stare or, more often than not, the wrong answer. While this elicits laughter from the viewing audience, it should scare the living daylights out of anyone who truly loves this country.

I would urge everyone to buy this book, read it, & recommend it to everyone they know. We CAN fix what's wrong with our country if we go back to the principles of our Founding Fathers as outlined in the Declaration of Independence & the U.S. Constitution. Our Founding Fathers knew exactly what they were doing when they wrote the Declaration of Independence & the U.S. Constitution, & the principles contained therein are every bit as relevant today. If we don't do everything we can to go back to these principles, then we will continue to lose freedoms that we hold dear & we will have nobody to blame but ourselves for allowing it to happen.

  • A Great Action Guide For Restoring America
In 'Black Belt Patriotism', Chuck Norris does a great job of outlining some of the biggest problems facing the United States today as well as proposing solutions.

Some of the problems areas that he covers in this volume include these: We have forgotten our roots, debt, lack of border control, the loss of our moral compass, the devaluation of life, failing our children, the dissolution of the American family, and apathy.

Whereas many books of this type focus solely on public policy issues, Mr. Norris is far more comprehensive. He looks at issues and solutions involving individuals and families as well as national concerns. Even in areas that are widespread problems, he highlights ways that one person can actually make a difference. This book is practical, common sensical, and valuable.

I strongly recommend it to anyone who is concerned about America and wants to make a difference....more info

"Most Americans, especially conservatives, loathe few things more than having to hear celebrities discuss politics and the major cultural issues of our day. Whenever they pop up on the cable chat shows or use an award show to shill for their cause du jour, the natural instinct is to turn the channel or surf to another website as quickly as possible. But are viewers annoyed because the Hollywood elite are almost always advocating extremely liberal positions or because they are spoon-fed their talking points? Both are probably true to some extent, but in many cases, it's obvious the big names in entertainment do not have a firm grasp of the facts in a given debate.

"But neither knee-jerk liberalism nor uninformed blathering is a problem when reading "Black Belt Patriotism: How to Reawaken America." It's the new book from martial arts master, actor and political activist Chuck Norris. In just under 200 pages, Norris passionately argues for a return to fiscal sanity, a commitment to securing America and the rediscovery of the Judeo-Christian values upon which this nation was founded.

"In fact, one of the hallmarks of "Black Belt Patriotism" that clearly separates Norris from his politically active celebrity brethren on either side of the aisle is the method in which he argues that we need to make sure "the America of yesteryear becomes the America of tomorrow." Rather than just offering his own opinions or parroting the talking points of today's politicians, Norris uses the words of our Founding Fathers to remind us what they believed more than 200 years ago and what he believes should be our mindset today.

"From the beginning, Norris admits he doesn't have some advanced degree that gives him unique insight into the challenges of tackling the national debt or securing the nation's borders. He simply states 'I am just a concerned citizen who is extremely worried, as I'm sure most of you are, about the direction our country is heading.'

"Whether discussing the war on terrorism, fiscal discipline or the removal of God from the public square, Norris makes it clear that re-embracing, promoting and and respecting the Judeo-Christian principles that guided our founders is indispensable to America becoming as great as she can be. Far from advocating any sort of theocracy, Norris asserts that the very Constitution we now adhere to functions best when the moral foundations of our republic are championed. In defense of that position, he quotes Thomas Paine, who said, 'Spiritual freedom is the root of political freedom...As the union between spiritual freedom and political liberty seems nearly inseparable, it is our duty to defend both.' John Adams added, "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to to the government of any other." Norris also cites George Washington, who argued against the notion that a nation can remain moral 'in exclusion of religious principle'.

"He also fights back against the argument that Thomas Jefferson argued for the "separation of church and state," by using the very letter of Jefferson's to the Danbury Baptists that contains that phrase. In context, Norris observes that Jefferson's point was not to slam the door on religious expression 'but to prohibit the domination and even legislation of religious sectarianism.' He also adds that Jefferson attended church services at the U.S. Capitol just two days after writing the letter -- hardly a sign he wanted no intermingling of government and religion. In another nice touch, Norris prints the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Ten Commandments at the end of the book, just to remind readers what each of them contains.

"Norris quotes The Founders not only with respect to the key social issues of the day but also with respect to our nation's mounting debt. He blasts the government for its wasteful ways, pointing out that the cost of minting pennies and nickels exceeds the values of those coins. The IRS is also a major target of his when it comes to the nation's taxes. Norris says our Founders would be 'horrified' to see the bloated bureaucracies and heavy tax burdens -- which were, after all, one of the major reasons for the revolution. He pounds home the point with the words of Patrick Henry, who asserted that unless properly restricted, tax collectors will 'go into your cellars and rooms and search, ransack, and measure, everything you eat, drink, and wear.'

"Norris also offers a personal perspective on debt, saying whether it's the government or an individual, going into uncontrollable debt is a function of greed. He says, 'To date, money has never truly satisfied a soul.' He says despite momentary satisfaction, greed needs to be fed like a lion and eventually a pride of lions -- something he experienced at the height of his own successful career. 'Believe me I know,' he says. 'I've felt their claws and been bitten by their destructive teeth. Years ago it nearly devoured me, until I learned the hard way how to tame the money monster.'

"In case you're wondering, Norris lands plenty of direct blows against the government and against individuals. When discussing our national security priorities, Norris slams former President Jimmy Carter as 'treasonous' for meeting with the leaders of the terrorist group Hamas. He also lays a good chunk of the blame for the entire war we're now fighting at Carter's feet, because 'in the name of human rights, he set the stage for the rise of two of the worst human rights violators in history -- the Ayatollah Khomeini and ultimately...Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.'

"He also argues against the nation-building track America has been on in recent years. Although strongly defending the U.S. response to the 9-11 attacks, Norris says America "overplays the role of world peace officer." He says President Washington had it right when he said our foreign interests were best served by extending commercial ties to other countries while having 'as little political connection as possible.'

"In a book that genuinely makes one think and be impressed with depth of research done by Norris (who has no ghost writer, by the way), there are only a couple of head scratchers. While virtually all of his colonial citations are spot on, he also cites a 1799 letter from Jefferson to his wife, Mary. While the letter may exist, Jefferson's wife died in 1782 and her name was Martha. Also, in a very informative chapter on nutrition and fitness, he makes what seems to be a forced pitch for the Total Gym, which he prominently endorses. But those are only minor drawbacks to a serious, readable work in which Norris demonstrates his love and concern for America and shows that America will listen to a celebrity who actually knows something before opening his or her mouth.

"Among the most impressive parts of "Black Belt Patriotism" is the obvious commitment Norris shows towards the next generations of Americans. He spends page after page talking about the need to harness the passion of young people for helping others into a movement for positive change in the country. He also offers a primer for parents in how to raise their children into responsible people who are ready to be a force for good in this country. Once again, he gets personal by using both the good and bad qualities of his own parents as guideposts. He is also intensely devoted to his KICKSTART program, which reaches inner city kids through positive activities and life lessons as an alternative to joining gangs and other destructive behavior. Norris says he and his wife consider KICKSTART 'our life's mission'.

"Imagine that! We have actually found a celebrity with a 'life's mission' that is not about his own career advancement or popularity. If the rest of Hollywood would take a cue from Norris, we might be able to put down the antacid and the remote control the next time they take to the airwaves."

  • Round-house to wake up America!
Everyone knows Chuck Norris. What a lot of people don't realize is that there's more to the man than the legend. Martial arts champ, movie star, etc... but he's a great writer too. Some sections of the book were a bit repetitive, but I feel that's to help get the point across. He writes a column on World Net Daily, so after reading his often stirring writings, I figured I'd invest in a book (I got autographed copies! woohoo!). If you're on the political fence, Chuck Norris issues a call to action, not just for the sake of stirring people up, but a call to review the hidden truths in history and wake up to the fact that we started fighting the war on terror since back when America won her freedom.
If you don't think the Constitution is important (he included a copy), think again... yet despite the great importance of it, it has been violated- and is continuously being violated... yet we continue to vote people into office who continue to violate it!
He covers a range of topics, all of which have had, and will continue to have an impact on the future of our nation. I don't know if we can change the course we are on, but if enough people make stands for what is right and good, then there is hope. If we all sit back and do nothing, America will become nothing. The most free nation in the world, the nation of opportunity will be no more (not as we know it) if we continue down our current self-destructive path of political correctness, and falling for the propaganda in the media.
If you want a deeper look into what's really going on, start with this book. Turn off CNN and the other mainstream media sources. Check out World Net Daily... or you can go back to being a sheep waiting for the government to give you a rainbow and unicorn in your back yard. ...more info

  • A Black Belt in Deadpan Humor
As you can see, this book is by "Chuck Norris: Martial Arts Artist, Actor, Political Activist." But don't think he's serious! This Texas Ranger has the time of his life waltzing the reader through his humorous agenda for a better U.S.

Norris is somehow able to keep a straight face as he ladles out hilariously specious reasoning among great quotes from great Americans. And you'll chuckle your way right through it. For a sampling, here's an arbitrarily chosen passage from p. 188:
    ***
Charles P¨¦guy once said, "Tyranny is always better organized than freedom." Boy, is that the truth! The question still stands: Are we willing to sacrifice to assure not only our freedom but the freedom of future generations? Patrick Henry asked a similar question, "Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?...Give me liberty or give me death!"

...This is why John Quincy Adams' challenge still beckons across the years, "You will never know how much it has cost my generation to preserve your freedom. I hope you will make good use of it."

And what is good use?... Even Jesus said, "To whom much is given, much is required"....

More than ever, our nation needs a new generation of patriots. You will know them by the fact that they will still be the ones born in the trenches of life-- in the midst of adversity. Their courage is like a tea bag: you never know its strength until it's in hot water. In other words, it takes guts to leave the ruts!...

Thomas Paine could be speaking to us today when he said [incredibly, more quotes follow... and I'm still on page 188!]....more info
  • A great book to read and discuss as a family
I like the way this book espouses traditional conservative American Values and I like it on three levels. First, I appreciate that Chuck Norris is a big time celebrity and provides balance to the vast majority of liberal clich¨¦ celebrities. Second, I appreciate his fame and example in martial arts. Two of my kids and my wife have second degree black belts from a local school whose master admires Norris. Third, I appreciate his openness about his religious faith and the way he shares the role of religion in American history.

The book has ten chapters. The first discusses what most conservatives see as our country's current predicament. Of course, if you don't see what he talks about as a problem you will wonder what all the fuss is about, but then you would not be a conservative. The second chapter encourages us to look back to our founding rather than just back a few decades and learn the true principles our country was founded on and why so much of the experimentation over the past century has led us to the difficult present.

The third chapter encourages us to see that our government practices fiscal responsibility, the fourth focuses on securing the borders and how to cure illegal immigration humanely. Chapters five, six, and seven talk about religion in our country's history, the importance of protecting life from its conception, and a call to values for the young folks under 30 (he calls them the Millennials). Chapter eight focuses on the values that strengthen families and why we have them. You would expect Norris to be concerned about physical fitness (including diet) and he covers that in chapter nine. The last chapter is a call for us to participate in the reawakening of the American Dream by getting involved and he tells you how.

The book also includes The Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, and the Ten Commandments. Footnotes and a helpful index are also included.

I think this book would be very useful to read and discuss as a family.

    Good job.

What makes this book so valuable is the practical nature of its suggestions. There are specific things we can do not only for ourselves, but our children and our nation. We have to consider the founding fathers' intent when first constructing the documents that shape our government. Being intentional about seeking out the truth of who we are as a nation and then educating those around us- getting the truth into the schools- let's challenge the text book publishers for both science and history. • It is a good read, but ...
Ok. I read the book because I have an interview with Mr. Norris next week. I wanted to write this review on the book and not the interview, so I am putting my review in now.

The first half of the book is a well thought out presentation of Chuck Norris' political philosophy. He takes great care to research and present his opinions. It is also a very easy read.

My problem isn't with the book but the premise of his politics. Not that he is a conservative Christian, but that his research is all primarily and solely based on quotes from the founding fathers. It is entirely libertarian, calling for a decentralized state controlled country with minimal federal authority.

He calls for the return to "old timey" family values that never really existed anywhere but in the editing minds of people who remember the golden days better than they were. That is, no one ever divorce in our grandparents era, kids were all above average, bad guys were bad with mustaches and black capes.

I applaud Chuck on his clearly thought out convictions, but I feel that he offers no solutions for a more complex and global world. Our universe is changing at the speed of thought and his solution is to build a time machine.

  • Excellent Reading
I purchased 2 of Chuck Norris' "Black Belt Patriotism." One was a gift; the other was for my husband and myself. Thank you Chuck Norris for writing this book . . .Americans need to wake up and realize that organizations are out there to bring down America and destroy our way of life. Why can't we be more positive and why can't the majority of Americans who agree with what you said in your book, stand up and be counted! Now is the time of course to do this, with the election only 3 weeks away. My son-in-law has read the book and now my daughter is reading it as well. An excellent and very worth while purchase; should be required reading in junior and senior high school! Thank you Chuck Norris!...more info
