- A diet that works
I have read some of the negative reviews and do agree that the diet has you buy food for one of the days and then you don't get to eat that food for the rest of the week, which results in a lot of wasted food. I am a very picky eater also and do not like a lot of the food that is listed in the book. The solution to both the issues, however, is that I choose two or three menus that are listed from the week and just eat that menu the entire week, so there is no wasted food. The food is also very expensive at the grocery store and I have to go to a local health food store for some of the items. So it takes a lot of energy and an extreme amount of planning. All of the negative doesn't matter though because this diet works. I am NEVER hungry, I love the food and recipes from the menus that I do like, and have lost a major amount of weight in four weeks so far. I am trying food I would have never dreamed about eating before and am learning how to eat healthy after I have finished losing all the weight. So if you are serious about doing a diet and taking the time to buy the food and prepare it, then I highly recommend this book....more info

Thanks so much for getting our book out to us so quickly, and in such good shape. The packaging was very efficient, and the cost was very reasonable. Great experience....more info

- Very inspirational, great starting point
I love that this book gives you a day by day plan for what to eat and what exercise to do. But I'll also agree with the reader that some of the things aren't practical (like the 12 servings of chili and only needing 1). I'm about to start week 1 tomorrow, and what I've done is set up my week making some adjustments as needed. I don't drink milk, so I added a fat-free yogurt in place of the milks. I swapped out some meals with other days, like having grilled chicken with asparagus and grape tomatoes (couldn't find cherry tomatoes) for dinner 2 days in a row so that I use up the veggies before they go bad. I'm also using the multigrain sandwich thins that I already have in place of the multigrain english muffins, multigrain bagels and multigrain wraps. Same basic nutritional information, much more convenient and less expensive for me.
True I'm not following the program to the letter of the law, but I'm only making minor adjustments and I still think that I'll get the results I want. This is the first time I've found a program that looked like I could follow it, so I'm excited to give it a try.
And just as an aside, I found almost all of my fruits and veggies at the local asian market for a fraction of the price of the regular grocery store....more info
- not what I expected
Nothing against the contestants on Biggest Loser, but I was expecting recipes and menus from "experts". I read the book almost cover to cover and then put it in my give away pile. I didn't even offer to share it with someone else. very disappointed. oh well!...more info
- Great Help!
This book is just as it's title says a great "jump start". It really helps you not have to think about what to do and just do it. It is a great place to start your way to a new healthy life. ...more info
- Great ideas if you have the time
This book is great for recipes, ideas and content. However, if you are a busy working mom like me, you usually don't have all those groceries normally stocked and it takes quite a bit of time to prepare all your meals for the day if you follow the meal plan word for word. I think it is awesome for your very first stab at a healthy lifestyle. If you have been at it for a while, it is a really great 'idea' book for new fresh foods and recipes. Overall it is a great book if you are just starting out or just want some new ideas. ...more info
- Nice layout-helpful day to day guide.

- Great starting plan

- It's all true, but Impratical to follow for a life time
This book is filled with good balance meal plans but for the average American family or person tiring to change forever, it is far to difficult.
Of course some have the will power to focus on a committed change as this book suggest, but for most of us, this will be one of those lost the weight and gained it back. diet diet diet don't' eat this do eat that , portions and so on. As I said those with a strong will power will be able to do this the rest of their life but for most of us this is a tuff road to follow. We need simplicity and health...more info
- Biggest Loser 30 day Jump Start
This book was just what I needed to help me commit to a regular exercise regime. I used the menus as a guide for what kinds of food to eat, and how much. The recipes are easy to follow, and most of the food is just ordinary healthy food. At 55, I found the exercises to be challenging, but have completed all 30 days, and am now going back and doing the second two weeks again, only increasing the number of reps and weights. I lost 12 lbs in those 30 days. I highly recommend this book to anyone needing a structured program for exercise. Commit to it, and you will lose!...more info

- Great guide to get started
I bought this book for the 30 day by day plans. I also enjoyed that it had the current season's cast. As mentioned in other reviews, the menus are good guides but the ingredients are often used just once in the 30 days and most recipes yield a large number of servings. As many people are the sole dieter in the house or perhaps live alone, it would have been more helpful if they had "serves 1 (or even 2)" sizes and use the other meal on another day's menu. I had to scale down the serving sizes and change the menus to use up the other serving and other ingredients.
What I LOVE about the book is the daily exercise plans. Each day outlines what exercises need to be done with photos to show proper form. There is also a 30 day calendar outlining the progression of exercises. Each day builds on the next so it was a great way to get started from couch potato to exercising regularly.
I enjoyed the pictures and little blurbs from the current cast and where I am currently watching these people each week, it had more meaning to me that comments from contestants from past seasons.
This is a great book for those who need an organized plan to get started on their weight loss journeys. You just need to play with the menus a bit....more info
- Plan your life, live your plan
This book is 308 pages of pure inspiration. I defy you to look at it and not be moved to live healthier. Basically you'll learn what to eat -- and what NOT to eat -- and how to exercise. If you are familiar with The Biggest Loser reality show on NBC, this book uses the same knowledge and guidelines from the same experts. It is "a 30-day blueprint for improved health, weight loss and a whole new life."
Don't be fooled by the cheesy cover. Inside are nicely designed pages with photographs and lots of color. The food shots, in particular, are beautifully done, and make you want to try the recipes. Advice from TV-show contestants and trainers is sprinkled throughout.
One of the big tips to losing weight and getting fit is being organized; this book follows its own advice. The recipes are easy to follow and the exercises are also accompanied by photos of someone demonstrating the workout.
First you meet some of the Biggest Loser contestants, nine people who had to follow this 30-day plan at home. Each person has a photo, a bio, a quote about why they are ready to lose weight, and a week-by-week diary detailing their progress. Next are chapters introducing the basic tenets of healthy eating and exercising. The guts of the book come next: the "30 days of transformation." Each day tells you exactly what to eat, including recipes, and what your exercise should be, including diagrams.
Recipes include some real winners: Confetti Couscous, Frosty Pumpkin Smoothie, Vanilla Poached Pears and Fish Tacos.
The back of the book gets a little cheesy again, though, as a few pages are devoted to advertising the Biggest Loser product line of books, DVDs, equipment and protein powder.
Here's the chapter list:
1. Ready... Set... Jump!
2. There's No Place Like Home
3. The What, When, and How of Eating
4. Building a Fitness Foundation
5. 30 Days of Transformation
6. Now What?
- Disappointing and Impractical
I bought this book and was extremely disappointed. While it does lay out a different menu for each of the 30 days, grocery shopping for these menus would be completely impractical. I sat down to write the list for the first week and by the time I got to day 3, it was two pages of ingredients in small quantities which is impossible to shop for. While the variety is enticing, it's not expected that you'd find one slice of reduced fat swiss cheese or two butter lettuce leaves for sale. You'd end up buying all this food to only use a small amount - the book doesn't reuse certain ingredients enough within a week's time that you'd actually benefit from buying the entire package of swiss or the entire head of butter lettuce. Also, some of the recipes are for WAY too many servings - for example there's a recipe for 24 mini blueberry bran muffins, but you only are instructed to eat four of them in the 30 day period. Similarly there's a recipe for 12 servings worth of chili but you only eat one. Unless you've got a freezer the size of a closet, I can't see this working out well. Variety is great, but when it becomes expensive and impractical it doesn't make sense. The Biggest Loser contestants didn't pay for the food and there was more than one of them on the diet at the same time, so buying the ingredients in bulk in a situation like that would make sense. For a single person, this plan doesn't make good sense at all. Overall, I was extremely disappointed. ...more info
- Love the 30 Day Biggest Loser Jump Start!
I watch the show so I had to give it a try. The recipies are easy and taste surprisingly good! Honestly I do feel so much healthier! I've lost 5 pounds in 2 weeks!...more info
- Great Recipes - Lots of great workout tips
I love the show but I am a cookbook person. The Fish tacos needed a little more seasoning. I was perhaps a little timid about the amount of red pepper. The Portebella pizzas are delicious and I have made them twice already. I get the mushrooms in bulk at Sam's Wholesale club. Thumbs up from the hubby too!
Lots of great exercise - As a personal trainer and a kettlebell instructor I hardly call this a true Jump Start. Definately easing into working out more but a good book for even a person just starting out with exercise. It's all about eating right and exercising! Definately stomething to start that foundation!...more info

i bought this book because i love the show biggest loser. too bad "the ranch" is impossible to duplicate at home. if you are going to go to the grocery every single day and devote hours and hours to making three meals from scarth every day of the week then this is the book for you!! if you have any life at all this book is not gonna help you lose weight...more info
I really enjoy this whole series! I don't know if I would actually follow this day by day, but there is some great information in here with interesting recipes and solid work outs. I would recommend any of the Biggest Loser books for people looking for healthy lifestyle change!...more info
