Customer Reviews:

  • great resource
Our professor actually handed us copies in class and said this is the best resource that he has found for dealing with ID. Tables are small and it takes awhile to get used to the format, but the book is exceedingly helpful....more info
  • extremely tiny print
I was required to buy this for a class. The print is so small I have trouble reading it. I would not buy it again because of that. What good is current info if you can't see it....more info
  • font too small
I wouldn't advise getting the little one, the font is just too small and puts a strain on the old eyes. There is a step up version that still fits into your pocket. As far as the content is concerned, a must have if you ask me. ...more info
  • Will be returning this one for certain
The type is WAY too small in this book and the info is so busy it is ridiculous. Don't waste your money. You can buy the larger print edition if this is your reference choice but I had been using the John Hopkins guide from 2006 which is considerably more user friendly. I am returning this one and planning to look for the newer edition of the Johns Hopkins guide. ...more info
  • Sanford Pocket Guide: too small of print
The print is just too small to make it worthwhile to those of us who don't have the vision of youth and don't want the hassle of looking at too small print....more info
  • In my country s boockshops, is imposible to find The Sanford Guide.
We need the Sanford Guide to Microbial, because is very important for my daugther in the University, she is a pharmacy student. The main boockshops in Costa Rica don't sell that book.
Successfully, Amazon is the solution to the problem. ...more info
  • Handy little tool
This is a good book to have when doing a rotation or shadowing a physician expecially in family med and internal. However, the only complain I would have is the type font is a bit small but nevertheless its a keeper. ...more info
  • Can't Be Read Without a Magnifier if You're Over 40
There's a lot of very useful information in this book, but no one over about 40 will be able to obtain it without a magnifying glass. Even with my reading glasses, I find this very difficult to read with my 49-year old eyes. Without them it is impossible.

It sure was easier to read in Medical School 20 years ago. Since then, presbyopia has set in and progressed. I also think that the print size has been reduced over time to include more information without increasing the size of the book. Anyone who finds themselves needing reading glasses or contacts to read larger version. You'll have to carry a magnifying glass with you to use this one.

Unlike the reviewers who gave this book only one star because of the small print, I give it four because of the excellent content. One star deducted for not making the book a bit bigger. I think they could have made it a bit easier to read without compromising portability....more info

  • beware of microscopic print
excellent reference book--BUT the copy i received is in microscopic print and therefore useless to me--I must have missed this fact in ordering--in the future MICROSCOPIIC print should be soelled out...more info
  • Invaluable!
The absolute bible on the subject! Second only to my Epocrates software. I'm a physician assistant in an internal medicine practice, and it sits in a place of honor on my desk....more info
  • Sanford Guide to Antimicrobial Therapy 2008
This is a great book for dosing, length of course and concerns for age groups, allergies and other health concerns bearing closer watching. There is a best and alternative med listed. Great information and concise. ...more info
  • just ok
This is in everybody's pocket but isn't as useful as you might think. Unless you have a culture exactly identifying your specific microbe the book isn't useful, but anyone who orders a culture also orders susceptibility which tells you the correct antibiotic automatically....more info

  • sanford guide to antimicrobialtherapy
    Well
I would like to say that this is a great book, yes its true.
The only prob is that you got to know what you're doing...and you got to know this book well...otherwise you're not going to come up with anything...
IF you pick up this book thinking that you're going to come up with the greatest antibiotic combinations you're wrong. You're just going to sit it there somewhere. and look elsewhere.
You need to know how to read it, as it is full of acronyms for lots of antibiotics; and so forth and so on...
You need to get used to it ask attending that might have you used it b4 so that you know what you're up against and stuff...especially if you're going to be working with critically ill patients; who are in icus
They need the best combinations possible of antibiotic ...
Make sure you protect you're calling......more info
  • the best ID quick book
it fits right into the white coat and it has all the quick references that i need on the floor
except that it has really small print which hurts my eyes a lil bit
it is really nice book...more info
  • comprehensive but hard to read
If you are thinking about getting this book, I suggest the PDA version, because this book is designed to be a "pocket book", so it's small. The vast amount of information therefore has to be somehow packed into this book. The print is very small, I don't think any one can read this book from more than 2 inches away. The information is great, though....more info
  • The Sanford Guide
The Sanford Guide is the perfect pocket book with valuable and up-to-date information related with the antimicrobial therapy. It is so useful for the ER, ICU resident, specially the Internist and Family doctor, but for any specialty and setting of the daily practice.
It's information is relevant not just for the US medical doctors, even in the most difficult and isolated areas you can look for the different treatment choices and find a good guide in order to resolve the infectious problem of your patient; from the simpliest skin bacterial infection through TB, HIV, parasites and other mayor infectious diseases....more info
  • Great, but type is microscopic!
This is an invaluable resource in terms of content. It is the pocket size, which is convenient. Understand that the small size means that the type is incredibly small. You might need a microscope to read this!...more info
  • Sanford Guide 2007 Review
The book arrived quickly (within a few days), even though I chose the free Supersaver shipping. It is a great pocket antibiotic guide widely used in the medical field....more info

  • Excellent information, but....
I purchased this resource for my clinicals it has excellent information but, the writing is way too small. I need larger writing to maintain my eyesight and sanity....more info
