Product Description

Hamilton Beach, Chrome, Classic Drink Mixer, With 28 OZ Stainless Steel Mixing Cup, 2 Speeds, Tiltable Mixing Head, Easy Clean, Detachable Spindle, Weighted Base, Includes Recipes.

Drop a dime into the jukebox, press F2 for Fats Domino's "Blueberry Hill," and dreamily drift back to the '50s, when bobbysoxers and guys with ducktails or wearing white bucks (never, ever both) idled away after-school hours at the local drugstore's soda fountain sipping chocolate malts that had been churned to a smooth, frothy consistency by a mixer exactly like this one. Hamilton Beach's drink mixers began appearing at soda fountains in 1911; this 14-1/2-inch-high, 70-watt model, in creamy green, recalls Elvis's first decade. But it's 21st-century, too, blending fruit smoothies and health drinks as well as milk shakes and malted milks. Also use it to mix puddings and beat eggs for omelets. Two speeds offer mixing flexibility, and the tilting head makes it easy to remove the spindle for cleaning. Its professional-style, stainless-steel cup holds 28 ounces and is dishwasher-safe. --Fred Brack

Features:
  • Retro, drugstore-soda-fountain style with 70-watt motor
  • Ideal for milkshakes, malted milks, fruit smoothies, and health drinks
  • Professional-style, stainless-steel cup holds 28 ounces
  • Tilting head for easy access; 2 speeds; spindle detaches for easy cleaning

Customer Reviews:

  • Just get a blender
I received this for my wedding, in fact it was something I registered for. In nine years I've used it maybe twice. I was just digging it out of my closet to sell at a garage sale when it dawned on me that maybe I was using it wrong so I came to Amazon to read reviews and descriptions. Everything confirmed my memory. It seems like this would be a cool thing to make milkshakes in, it's not. You'd get better results (faster too) just using a spoon, with way less clean up. If you still have to have one, come to my garage sale and I'll sell it to you for a dollar O.B.O....more info
  • It's a great DRINK MIXER
I've got the HBDM and I love it. It's a great drink mixer - that's what it tells you it's going to be and that's what it is. When I first read the reviews on this product I was nervous to get it, but I went ahead and man am I glad. This makes great milkshakes and smoothies. It's not a beater - it won't chop up cookies or fruit for you and it tells you that very clearly in the directions. If you smash these up before you put them in you'll be fine, but this is not a blender - it won't crush ice for you.

I use it to make terrific milkshakes - it's fun and easy to use and I can make the shakes as smooth or chunky as I want to. It's easy to clean up and there's no assembly required. Just pull it out of the box and go. If you want to make shakes, egg creams and smoothies this is great buy....more info

  • Little guy does its job for cheap money
I bought this with a few hesitations given the mixed bag of reviews. But ultimately, this little guy has delivered. It is not as big or powerful as the soda shop models but it does make a wonderful frappe (I'm from Boston so we call them frappes). I love malts and this mixer does a great job of blending everything together WITHOUT liquifying the ingredients like a blender does. I want an ice-cream blended not a chocolate milk! You CAN run the machine with the cup detached from the holder so you can get the blending stick around the sides. The blending disk is also wavy not smooth as some others said. It is chrome but for thirty-five bucks, what does one expect. I've made frappes three nights in row now and they've all come out great. Just be sure not to use rock hard ice cream. ...more info
  • Not worth the money or effort
Why bother paying money for something that only stirs drinks (spoons work!) or blends cocktails and milkshakes (that's what blenders are for!). I received this as a gift, and at first thought it was the neatest thing... a retro milkshake maker. But it doesn't have much power, you have to make sure the cup is securely on or a huge mess will splatter everywhere, and if your ingredients are hard (like ice or ice cream) you'll be waiting forever for the drink to be made. Stick with a regular blender for milkshakes and drinks, and save some money and counter space....more info
  • Excellent Product
I am very pleased with this product. It is an excellent value for the price, very good looking & well made. Performs very well. I would definitely recommend this product. ...more info
  • Brings back happy memories!!
Smaller version of soda shop mixer but just right size for my kitchen. Quality product for price! Fun to make malts and milk shakes with it. Chrome finish looks nice....more info
  • Milkshake lover
We bought this item for my son's 11th birthday....he loves chocolate milkshakes. This whips up a great thick milkshake in no time and we do not have to use a blender! Easier and less clean-up....we love it!...more info
  • Excellent Shake Maker
This is a great product! I am a proud owner of many Hamilton Beach products. The 730C Classic DrinkMaster Drink Mixer has not failed me! It is GREAT! The delivery was quick, received it in great condition. No complaints! ...more info
  • Seems Ok
This thing is plastic, if you think otherwise. It makes great smoothies, and has performed well. No complaints here....more info
  • Chocolate Milkshakes
Not only does this make great milkshakes quickly, it also looks great out on a counter....more info
  • Mixer
This would be fine for juice drinks but I was wanting a smaller "blender" type for milkshakes. The glass isn't very large and you can't make much drink or it will go everywhere! It wasn't very suitable for my needs but I think it might be ok for others....more info
  • Works Great
I use it to mix protein shakes and it takes less than a minute to mix milk, soy milk, protein powder, and any other supplements I need into a great creamy milkshake. I've used a blender to do this for years. I must have been an idiot. The blender never produced the consistent creamy, thick consistency. Great Product for a cheap price....more info
  • what you see is what you get
I am glad I purchased it. For the price --it works well. Ice cream needs to be soft but it makes a nice shake. The rotator blade is plastic and not equipped for anything heavy duty like ice or hard fruit. It does a good basic job of mixing and blending. If you keep it in the context of economical-it does what it says and I would buy it again. If you want more power then you will need to spend more money on a heavy duty one!...more info
  • Weak motor - burned out
In less than one month of light use, this item self-destructed. Weak motor, that burned out only trying to mix icecream drinks. Save your money. Buy the Braun handheld instead!!! Strong motor, and much more versatile too....more info
  • Good for Milkshakes

My son uses it for milkshakes, and I've made a few myself.
It works fine, and more importantly matches my sparcly furnished crome kitchen. (crome tea keatle, crome garbage, etc). It looks nice in the kitchen.

We've used it a dozen times.
I would agree, that it does not appear to be the best well made appliance in the world, since the spinny thing at the bottom is plastic, but it does work ok.

The kids have not complained yet, and it cleans up easy.

  • Soda Fountain Retro
While this is a "lightweight" unit and not commercial, it does make a nice useable "retro" item for the soda fountain in our 50's room....more info
  • Nice little shake machine
It does't make the 32 ounce shakes I remember from the good old days but it does a good job and perhaps less is better for the waist line....more info
  • Too Fun
Bought this for my husband for father's day. Being an ice cream/milkshake fanatic, he makes milkshakes almost every evening for the entire family. He just loves it and we have had so much fun with this item. It does a great job for us....more info
  • Retro beauty!
I love the retro styling of my new drink mixer. It adds charm to my kitchen decor and we are having fun mixing up cool, refreshing, summertime drinks with it. Ice cream is our new favorite food group!...more info
  • Great little mixer!
I bought this mixer because my husband loves homeade milkshakes, but it is such a hassle to take out the blender and clean all the parts when you are finished. This mixer is fantastic because all there is to clean is the cup and the part that does the mixing. It is small enough to leave on the counter as well. I would definetly recommend this machine. ...more info
  • This product is not worth anything!!
Its made of plastic which is not poerful. It spills the drink you are trying to make and is really messy. It dusnt blend much at all and takes a lot of effort to clean. ...more info
  • Should have known better
This product is a complete joke.I bought three of these units. I can't believe it,they don't mix. What a piece of junk. These are coming back!...more info
  • Classic Drinkmaster
I bought this drink mixer because I love to make milk shakes and other kinds of frozen drinks. I did read the reviews first and noticed that there were a lot of negative reviews. I decided to try the mixer anyway, and decided that if it couldn't handle ice cream and the such that I would simply use it for powdered drinks. I received it in the mail yesterday and make a chocolate shake today. I was really shocked by the amount of power that this machine had. I filled the cup about two thirds full and started the machine. At first, I thought that I was on the high setting because of the amount of power. So I tried the next setting. This one actually caused the cup to overflow because of the power. I do not know if they replaced the motor or what Hamilton Beach did, but the machine definately exceeds my expectations. I would highly recommend it!...more info
  • Hamilton Beach - Shame on you!
The Hamilton Beach 730C Classic DrinkMaster is a complete waste of money! It is not sturdy or powerful enough to make a milkshake - at least one that actually contains ice cream! It doesn't mix anything! What a waste! By the Oster instead or go to a garage sale and get the real thing.

  • Toothpick for a mixer
I was excited about the thought of using a nostalgic chrome mixer for ice cream shakes. Unfortunately, this product has the strength and blending power of a toothpick. The mixer wand is about 1 inch in diameter and made of very cheap plastic. It doesn't mix ice cream worth a dime... This is the first product I've ever had to return to Amazon. Don't waste your money. ...more info
  • My recent order
Although I have not used the DrinkMaster as yet, I am sure that it will work fine. It looks like brand new, and just from the looks of it, I am certain that I made the correct joice.
I had to get the proper ingredients to make the low fat no sugar
shake as suggested by the Dr. who recently diagnosed my husband with Type II Diabetes.
Thank you for the prompt attention to my order.

  • do not buy
I bought this a while ago thinking it would be perfect for shakes, boy was i wrong. Its cute but thats about all its good for. I agree with the others stick with your blender....more info
  • I don't know what to feed it!
Cute countertop decor ... but a very picky eater.
After feeding it thick milkshake ingredients which it couldn't digest, I thought maybe it would like thin iced coffee concoctions. Not so. It regurgitated the coffee & cream all over the counter.
So its ideal food is not too thick & not too thin ... I suppose I'll need to find some recipes for my new
Classic Cream of Wheat Mixer. ...more info
  • stick with a blender
I got this mixer for christmas and was so excited. We make milkshakes several times a week and I thought the mixer would be great. It sucked. Like every other review says, it makes a hole in the middle of the ice cream and then the cup just spins. I probably only used it a dozen times and then went back to the blender. Then i decided to give it another chance, and the motor started sounding like it was shifting gears. The low gear sounded like weed whacker. If i knew where the box was, I would send it back to the company....more info
  • Yummy Maker
Easy to operate - well satisfied. It comes with a mixer cup - which I was not aware of; I wish the ad would of mentioned that as I purchased a seperate cup thus ending up with an extra one....more info
  • ahh...the word "plastic" might be helpful
I'm an idiot for not reading the product description more carefully, but usually the word "chrome" implies I'm buying something made of metal. This p.o.s. on the other hand is made entirely of chrome colored plastic. The only thing metal in the box is the cup (which coincidentally is the least important part of the whole unit). The tip of the mixer rod is also made of plastic. It will not crush ice. If you want a serious mixer, either go to your local restaurant supply (the smart move) or buy a Waring....more info
  • Just like in the 50's....
I was a 14 year old "soda jerk" in a drug store in the mid 50's...made several hundred milkshakes and malts...am re living my childhood with this machine...I love it...don't worry about calories anymore at 71 years of age...make malts or milkshakes 5 times a week...ENJOY!!!!!...more info

  • Richie D
At first after getting this shake blender I thought it took way to long for it to make a shake. But then after a little experimenting I come to realize that if you scoop your icecream into a plastic cup first and stick it in the microwave for just 15 seconds and then dump it into the steel cup along with a little milk that your shake maker mixes up your shake alot easier and faster.About half the time to be exact.Try it.You wont be disapointed....more info
  • GREATEST GADGET FOR A FAMILY!!
I have had one of these machines for years and with a VERY BIG family, it's great for shakes, chocolate milk, eggnog, cappacinno, mixing pancakes, eggs, batter, you name it. Handy and always ready to use, it takes up little space on the counter! Super easy clean up, my kids love it. As my older children move out, the first house gift they get is a HB Drink Mixer. It just wouldn't feel like home without one, they've become so used to having it around....more info
