Product Description

4-1/2" Paddle Switch Grinder, Ball & Needle Bearing Construction, Service Minder Brushes, Takes The Guesswork Out Of Preventative Maintenance AC/DC Capability, Extended Versatility Working From AC To DC Outlets Ergonomic Paddle Switch, With Lock On Switch For Better Operator Comfort & Control.

Grinders lack the glamour of routers, say, and compound miter saws, but when it's a grinder you need, we don't think there are too many better choices out there than this one. "You get what you pay for" is, we think, even more true in the world of tools than elsewhere, and this is definitely a case in point.

We've never met a Bosch tool that lacked quality, precision engineering, ergonomics and power, and this grinder is no exception. Our favorite feature on this one is definitely the paddle switch, not just for comfort and convenience, but for the ultimate in safety and control. We're not big fans of the lock-on button, because it negates the safety feature of the paddle switch, but we know some of you wouldn't have it any other way.

As for user ease, it's fabtastic. It weighs in just over 4 pounds, and the balance in hand is supreme. Up against other grinders in its class, the vibration is absolutely minimal, virtually eliminating that unpleasant arm-buzz. Another thing we like about this grinder is its ability to draw power from DC outlets, so if you'll be grinding welds, this tool is a perfect choice.

The 4-1/2-inch wheel changes out fast, and the guard adjusts without tools. The whole tool says "quality," from the sealed switch to the ServiceMinder™ brushes that automatically shut down the tool when it's time to change them, ensuring that this workhorse will be with you for a long, long time. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Customer Reviews:

  • 5 Star Product all the way.
I bought this grinder specifically to use with a diamond cutting blade (the Bosch DB4563 4 1/2" General Purpose Premium Plus Turbo Diamond Circular Saw Blade) to cut and shape 2" thich flagstone pieces for an outdoor patio installation. I read and re-read the reviews carefully, and considering the price it seemed like a good bet to try this tool on for size. I have not been disapointed!

This tool is extremely light wieght and easy to use so I do not feel fatigued like I would by using a heavy tool. I feel almost no vibration at all and have only experienced kick-back when I try to force things (bad me!) instead of letting the machine and the diamond blade make the cut for me. The handle can be attached on either side of the head and it attaches at a 70 degree angle which is VERY comfortable.

This tool is set up in such a way that I feel that I have total control over the cuts I am making. I have not made a single miscut since I started using this tool. I highly recomend it for cutting stone and for use with a diamond blade....more info

  • Heavy Duty Grinder for the Metal shop
I own two other 4 1/2 inch grinders besides this one. My Made in China $24 grinder that I was using with a cupped wire brush finally bit the dust. I went looking for Quality this time around and wanted to purchase Made in USA. But this Bosch won out, over a Dewalt, because it was the only one that was a "true" all ball / needle bearing construction. It has lots of power and the paddle switch saved my bacon when on a trial run using a metal cutting disk, the disk caught and shattered (I AWAYS wear safety glasses and gloves when grinding). On my other grinders with a thumb switch... that 1/2 second to find the switch & flip it off... would have been too long. Draw backs, the grinder seems to have more vibration and noise than my 8 year old, Made in Japan Ryobi, not to be confused with the new Ryobi, Made in China! Bill G....more info
  • Great tool!
It works great and has the power to do the job right. Bosch makes good stuff....more info
  • Bosch 1810
When I first got a paddle grinder, I didn't know what I'd use it for (got one in a kit). I found I used it to cut heavy wire around the house (like closet racks) and sharpen my riding lawn mower blade. I have used a couple of grinders since. I have tried several in the store too, like the Dewalt, Metabo, Hitachi and Makita. This one is the best one yet.

Bosch tools have always been excellent. This one reduces the felt vibration and the side handle is angled at 70 degrees, which is more comfortable in use that a 90 degree one. The guard has tool free adjustment and the paddle switch is great. I have small hands and I can hold the barrel of this one comfortably.

I prefer a paddle switch, as the tool will automatically turn off when it's released (like an emergency). This one has a little lever that has to be depressed on the paddle to operate. This is a great feature, because if you accidentally set it down on the paddle, it won't turn on. It also has a separate button at the rear of the paddle to lock on the paddle for extended use (However, this overrides the safety of having a paddle).

This one is in use making hollowed out chair seats. Highly recommended....more info
  • Good Quality Grinder
The 1810PS works very well. Very little drag under load, body is a comfortable diameter to grip, side handle is nicely angled and the tool is well balanced. I would prefer that it be made in the USA....more info

  • A great tool for the daily grind
I bought this grinder to deal with an immediate problem but soon found it to be frequently useful. I purchased it after reading several reviews on this site and others, and I am very pleased with the results.

This machine has a small but powerful motor that doesn't yield to pressure, and yet it's light-weight and easy to handle and control. Changing grinding wheels or brushes is a snap, and the power switch is conveniently positioned for control and safety.

I have used it on plastics, metals and wood, and it performed superbly in every instance....more info
  • Good Little Grinder
Kinda hard to get worked up about an angle grinder--their loud, dirty and smelly. Based on my success with other Bosch tools I purchased this one. It works very well. Appears durable, has a quality metal shield, simple wheel changes, easy on/off and lock switch. I like it. Probably couldn't go wrong with Yellow, Gray, Red or Green versions, however....more info
  • Quality Grinder

  • This Tool is fantastic
This last weekend I was putting in windows. I have two 9ft sliding glass doors. Somehow I mismeasured and needed to cut the stucko back. This tool cut beautifully. It has plenty of power for my needs. It is my new favorite tool....more info
  • A Trusted Friend.....Powerful and Enduring
I'd purchased a used Bosch grinder from a friend a few years back however it didn't have the paddle lever, only a off and on switch. I unfortunately dropped this grinder in such a way that the on/off switch no longer works (no fault of the grinders) and not wanting to plug and unplug to turn on and off (plus the safety issue of it) I decided to replace it with this grinder. What a fortunate accident for although the old grinder was still chugging along after years of use this grinder is just the ticket. It's like going from roll up car windows to push button because it just makes life easier. For long grinding projects (which is usually the case) I just lock the grinder switch to ON and then when need be with a flick of my finger the paddle lever turns off immediately. For very quick and short needs I just use the paddle lever. My grinder is used for sculptural metal work and it gets put through its paces. Although I just purchased this replacement grinder I can only assume that it too will live a long and healthy life thereby supporting me for years to come as it has wonderful parentage.

I own other Bosch tools (Jigsaw, Router) that have all been fantastic therefore I keep coming back.

  • Just Right
There are better and there are definately worse angle grinders out there. There are also some more expensive and a lot of cheaper ones.

I have owned several grinders, worn out some, some just broke. I can confidently say that this model is right where I need for most every job I have to tackle. It is well worth the money, dont wind up with a junk grinder just to save yourself $20. The more expensive ones are nice, but they dont really do anything this one wont.

From my experience, this one fits perfectly in cost vs. performance equation.

  • FANTASTIC GRINDER!
I've had this grinder for a few months now & love it! The tool-less guard adjustment is very quick and easy to set. I would buy another in a heartbeat!...more info
  • Great Grinder
We already bought more than 10 of these grinders and they are the best value for the $$$ you pay.
Previoulsly used Metabo, Makita, DeWalt but none can compare with Bosch.
    Highly recomend it....more info
  • Where's the case?
I was a little taken aback by the size of the box this thing came in--turns out Bosch doesn't think grinders need to be put away and skimped on the case. This makes little sense to me given what tends to happen when a grinding wheel isn't stored properly, but maybe I'm crazy.

The grinder itself is solidly built and the gradual speed up keeps it from jumping out of your hand nicely. The safety on the switch is a great feature to prevent against accidents, but I find it a little tricky to hit with gloves on; same with the lock-on button and spindle lock. Guard adjustments are simple and tool-free at least, and there's plenty of power to go 'round.

It would have been nice if they had incorporated their anti-kickback circuit into this model, too. I don't need or want a bigger, heavier grinder, but I would like one that won't hit me in the face....more info
  • Works well but loud
Does the job. -1 star cuz it does not come with a case. Very loud! Another draw back is when it's used side ways (like to remove grout) you need to remove the 4 screw from the silver case part and rotate the head 90 degrees. Then you need to turn it back to do regular grinding work....more info
  • 1018ps
We have 5 of these in the shop and they are very good grinder. They can take the abuse of running for hours. The paddle switch is nice in case it binds into a corner or trys to kick back at you.It is comfortable to hold on to for a while. I don't know what the life span of these are IF they are treated nice but in the shop we get about a year of abuse out of them before the bearings start to make noise and it starts to shake in your hands and eventually just locks up.
Make no mistake though we are hard on them. They get dropped, soaked with machine coolant and we weld by them. If I didn't already have a grinder I would buy this Bosch. ...more info
  • Great tool with plenty of power
Perfect size and more than enough power for the DIY homeowner. No complaints with this tool. Bosch does it again!...more info
  • Just what I needed
I couldn't beleive how fast it got here. Just in time for a welding class I was taking. Not too big,not too small, with enough power to get the job done. I used the grinding wheel and a wire wheel. It also pugged into the welder's DC outlet, no extra cords. ...more info
  • solid tool
I believe for use in the home shop and many commercial requirements, this tool is superb. I have used it for paint removal with a cup brush with good results. Using the rubber backer wheel I hogged the side of several small logs. It was up for the job. the power is there and delivered with not too much noise. I did not find the Bosch 1810 to be too heavy for long use, and the paddle switch was an integral part of the grip. ...more info
  • Pure power
I purchased this Bosch grinder through Amazon.com to tuck point brick work. Received the tool in one week with free shipping. The paddle switch is a safe feature. When you release the paddle it stops. I found it to be very powerfull and it has absolutely no hesitation. Pure power!
I installed a dry diamond blade for cutting brick - cut like butter with a hot knife. Installed a 4 1/2" diamond tuck point wheel and removed a mortar joint 35" wide in seconds. Highly recommend this tool if your looking for a good grinder. Well worth the money for the safety & power it delivers....more info
