  • Classic? No. Fun? Yes!
Since the advent of the PS1, we have seen games that were truly great, and truly timeless. Red Faction 2 is not one of those games by any stretch of the imagination. This is not necessarily a bad thing - as gamers, we do not always want to have to wait for the bomb disposal expert to finish his 20 minute lecture before getting back to the action, nor do we always want to spend more time equipping our characters for battle than actually fighting.

What Red Faction 2 does is provide pure action, and it does it well. The game is well timed and almost never lets up; the main character is under attack nearly constantly, and the moments when he is not are made extremely tense by this lack of action. The gameplay evokes a visceral, kill-or-be-killed feeling, whether one is slogging through hordes of enemy soldiers on foot or in the battle armor, fighting the ridiculously well-armed bosses, or operating the gun turret on vehicles during the rail-shooter style stages.

Speaking of the enemies... their AI can make a game like this much more exciting or doom it to mediocrity. The enemies' AI in Red Faction 2 is actually quite good; it is very rare for them to simply run towards you when you fire on them. The make use of cover, use explosives to drive you into the open, fire on you from concealed positions, and in general make sure that any fight you enter will not be as simple as circle strafing them as they stand still. The multiplayer mode is effective and offers lots of options, which is good since the single player game isn't as long as it might have been. It is, however, clear that the game was developed for the single player experience.

In short, Red Faction 2 is easy to reccomend if one is in the market for a fast-paced first-person shooter. Its sci-fi storyline is just interesting enough, and stays out of the way. The weaponry is excellent - including the option of holding an individually controllable weapon in each hand - and is a lot of fun to use. The levels are large and well-designed, and the settings are believable. Do you actually *enjoy* the amount of time you spend out of control in a Final Fantasy game? Stay away. Do you enjoy diving in, loading up on weapons and taking on the world? Get on board....more info

  • This is the "Halo" of PS2!
This is the Halo of PS2! It has the same story, same rechagable health, and same weapon types. I think this game is awsome if you liked Halo. If you loved Halo and hada PS2, and were acyually thinking about getting an Xbox for just Halo, don't. This game is worth it....more info

  • Best FPS I've Played in a Long Time!
Red Faction 2 is the (so cool) sequal to one of the best FPS games of 2001.Let's kick thing off shall we?
    GRAPHICS:
Nothing short of phenominal.Blood, gore, detail, color, and even wrinkles(!).
    STORY:
Good story but could have been deeper. You are a nonotech creation created by the chancellor of the Commonwealth, Victor Sopot. You join the Red Faction after you realize what he has done.Your code name is Alias and along with four other nanotech soldiers you try to assassinate Sopot.
    GAMEPLAY:
Fantastic. Responsive cotrols, dual weild, seperate firing, grenades, andthe ablities to swim, jump, and crouch your way to victory is as sweet as each kill you make.PlusGeo-Mod is back and better than ever beby!
    MULTIPLAYER:
Sweet. That about sums it up.You can play against upt to 4 people matches or fight it out by yourself against up to six bots. You can also create up to six bots you fight against. You choose their weopon prefs, aggressiveness, camping tendancy, accuracy, health, damage multiplier, and agility. Multiplayer modes include(but not limited to)deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the bag and team capture the bag.
That about sums up a must play PS2 game....more info
  • RF2 Da Sequel
Here's a simple mixture: Take awesome graphics, amazing sound,hi-tech weaponry, and vehicles and mix it. Season it up with easy-controll,normal difficulty,a huge array of weapons and then bake it in a PS2. What do ya get a really great 1st person shooter game. RF2 starts out easy and slow for the begginer but also starts out with heavy fire power and explosions. The game gets harder and more exiting each time you pass a level. Toward the end it gets really hard especially the last level which it took me weeks to finally beat it. The game also includes tight multi-player games including capture-the-flag, bagger, and the usual last one standing wins. What [is unacceptable] about this game is in some levels you find enemies all around you making the level harder than it is, lots of re-loading, and lots of throwing your controller across the room in frusratation. Overall its a good game but requires patients....more info
  • Not as good as the first one
RF2 is a pretty decent shooter. You are a nanotech solider trying to rid the world of General Sopot and a few plot twists later your done with the game. You'll get to wield a lot of nice weapons from machine pistols to crazy rocket launchers and rail gun. A few vehicles show up in the game like a flying assualt ship, a mech assualt armor thing, a submarine, and a tank. It varies up the gameplay a bit by having different things to do other than run around and shoot. The difficultly varies through the game, but it does steadily increase the further you get into the story. You will be done with it in under ten hours, so its very short and if you can't find it to buy you can finish it in a rental. I think I completed it in about six hours all together. If you have played Project:Snowblind you'll find this game very familiar, just no bio-augmentations. Overall pretty fun, just doesn't last very long....more info
  • BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!!
this is the best shooter game i have ever played!!!! i love it has soo many modes to play with 2-4 players super fun...more info
  • Almost Real
This game awstruck me when i got it. I immeadiately went to the multiplayer option and i was surprised, never had I seen such an amazing multiplayer game. I soon found out the capabilities of this game. There are different scenarios such as bagman (who can hold the briefcase the longest), capture the flag, and deathmatch. The different types of guns assure that you'll have a favorite, very soon. If you shoot someone with a machine gun, it causes them to actually look like they are hurting where you shot them. You also can cause them to explode into many tiny pieces!!!!You can also catch them on fire. The best thing is that you get titles according to the amount of kills you have, such as Killing Spree and Butcher.
In single player, you can do many of the the same things as multiplayer and you can even pilot vehicles!
I found it amazing and i'm sure you will too.
P.S. THIS GAME IS NOT FOR THE FIENT OF HEART!!!...more info
  • This should have been much better
They did some things right that need to be done more often, like the controller setup left joystick moves forward/back strafe left/right, dual weapons with separate firing, dual weapons in general are good separate firing is something I had not seen before, use of grenades without switching from your guns to them, (kinda like halo), and the geo mod thing is interesting but was never a selling point for me on this or the first.

    These improvements are very nice but they do not make up for its flaws, they seem to devolve from some of the best things red faction one;

    Playtime and challenge
The length of 2 is much shorter than one, one took a full week, and was challenging the entire time, 2 was beaten in less than 2 days and the only challenging parts were some of the bosses, which only you had to try it a couple of times before you killed them, and the final boss was easier than the boss right before him.

    Story
The story of red faction one had all sorts of twists we kept thinking we just have to do this next thing and it will be over but no it kept a step ahead you and unveiling some new segment just when you thought you were done, two has the one predictable plot twist. In 2 you are the invincible soldier whose duty is to kill everyone he sees, and this is your main goal throughout the entire game. In one you have diverse goals which usually had killing, just as a necessity for trying to get there alive.

    Gameplay
In one there were a number of places where you could not kill all the enemies and it was suicide to try, in 2 while you are constantly being told the building is about to explode you can nonchalantly hunt and kill everything you encounter. In 2 you are called a demolitions expert but you are really a grenadier, in fact the controlled bombs from red faction one are replaced with automatic timed ones in 2 and you just loaded with explosive weapons, you could use only grenades and rockets through just about the entire game. The Mission objective in 2 is to kill sokov and then molov, you might as well be super assasin, oh yes there are side quests they tend to be destroy all vehicles or something else only the invincible Alias(god that's a stupid name) can do. The levels which had been oddly shaped tunnels are gone in favor of completely straight roads and square buildings.

They took what I thought were innovative ideas in red faction, and forgot about them to make yet another fps whose only innovation is improved graphics. They should have called this something else since it has pretty much nothing to do with red faction one, other than have the politcal "radical" group called red faction which couldnt take over a lemonade stand, yet everyone acts like they are some dire threat, and this political group has nothing to do with the red faction miners that were in RED FACTION one. It should have had a name that was accurate like "Nano Soldier" and then I wouldnt have been quite so disappointed, but then it wouldnt have had any hype for being a sequel and would have had to stand up on its own, and admit to being another drone in the faceless pantheon of first person shooters.

I want a REAL sequel to red faction...more info

  • Okay Game If You're Bored
This is my first First Person Shooting game for PS2 and I must say it's just an alright game. Nothing spectacular. The Geo Mode thing that is supposed to allow you to blow up random stuffs to find some other items or determine where you go in the game doesn't make any difference to me.

One thing that I hate about this game is the night vision goggle mode. You basically have to wear the damn thing in 50% of the time. I don't know if that's because the programmers are too lazy to brighten up the backgrounds or what, but when I can't see jack for doodoo it kinda peeves me off.

Some people say this game is too short, but I'm struggling to finish it. Not because it's a tough game, but because I'm tired of it. Not a challenging game for a first timer....more info

  • I only like a fiew 1st person shoters. this one l liked....
I don't play as much 1st person shotters as I do other games, but this one really stuck out (as did the first) to be a great game worth buying. It should be noted that I bought it when it was still full price and am fine with that being so on this perticular game. The single player part of this game is astounding (exept for the length) it wasn't that short but it could have been longer. I cannot stress enough what a great story this game tells! it is also cool because your enmias talk to you while your playing. the grahpics are like no other. and as in the first one you can still blow holes on the walls but in 2 they made it have more of a point and the most cirtanly made it more real looking.

I have beaten this game on easy and now that it has been beatin might stay unplayed for a while but not as long as most other games. Some of the missions are still fun to go back and beat again (like the vehical ones).

Multiplayer is a different story however it is also great. It is not nearly as realistic as 1PLR. my friends think it to be a lot like quake 3 and I can see why however I myself don't. It has the same sort of maps as quake 3, which for me is a dissapointment. I wanted big open areas like in Halo. the thing this dosn't promot is the use of vehicals in multiplayer: which is basically the one reason I Did not give it a 5. but somehow it still manages o be atleast extremly close to as fun as Halo. one thing that I can say is a cool feacher they added in multy player is that you can get health. the other is that there are all different sorts of game styles such as dictator (tag), of corst Capture the Flag mong others. and I think yo can unlock something if you beat the game in multiplayer like co-op. (I just beat it tonight so I'm not sure) the other thing I did not like is the fact that you can only have 6 epople, be it bots or human players at a time.

you cirtanly get a good amount of weapons in this game. even compaired to the weapon-filled first one. you also have the ability to have to weapons at the same time (unlike the 1st one). also while your holding a weapon you can throw a granade with your other hand.

the other thing that is good is the Atifical Intelagance. the enimy will hide and come out at you-so on...

    here is the final tally

    multyplayer
    how fun:5/5
    functionality:3/5
    maps:3/5

    single player
    how fun:5++/5
    functionality:5/5
    leingth:3.5/5
    maps:from about 3 to 5+/5

---I just hope that the x-box and game cube versions won't be better-that would make me mad---

my fears are only that they would add more players to the multiplayer...more info

  • Original Version is Way Better-This is a rental
This is a wonderful shooter game, but lame in comparison to the original game. Red Faction 1 is far more strategic, and a longer, more involved game. RF2 you can blow through in a few hours. It has so many weapons, its hard to cycle through them-
I felt it slowed down gameplay. RF2 feels more like an arcade
game, rent it at Blockbuster....more info
  • Even more insanely violent fun
This sequel has little to do with the Red Faction of the original. Sadly, our hero Parker does not return to kill more bad people. Instead, you play one of the few remaining nano-beings that are being hunted down. I think. I don't remember the plot that well because after a while, it really doesn't matter. All you need to know who is to shoot in this game and that's fine.

They packed more action into this sequel, big time. Bigger guns, more guns, ridiculously fast and accurate computer opponents in 2pm bot mode that will have you swearing at the TV. Not only is there Deathmatch, but there are other variations, all of which involve a lot of killing.

If you liked Red Faction, and especially liked the 2pm mode, you'll get into this game. Keep in mind though, they upgraded the Deathmatch mode by basically jacking up all of the settings so that it moves at crackhead speeds at times. Your average life span on some boards is about 5 seconds before you get taken out by a railgun.

Anyway. If you like first-person shooters with a 2pm mode as well, and you like games that tell there's violence, blood, AND gore, then pick this baby up....more info

  • One of the best First Person Shooters.
This will pave a way for future FPS and is one of the best games ever for PS2. You can play Multiplay by yourself and even create bots to be your teamates. If you win with them you can add to their attributes. It is also fun with single player where you can acquire over fifteen weapons most with two ways to attack the person. there is over seven levels broken down into four smaller levels apiece. This is one of the games that you might never get tired of playing with all the forms of multiplayer games....more info
  • Anyone know the opening title monologue by Sopot?
I thought this was an enjoyable game. The revolution atmosphere and the worker's war against tyranny and hyper capitalism really gave the game a feel of it's own. I wasn't too sure about the legions of undead, but at least you don't feel quite as guilty when you decapitate them with your chosen firearm.

But what I really wanted someone to help me out with is by writing the opening monologue by Sopot in this review section. During the opening credits, the ruthless dictator Sopot has a speech where he harangues the Red Faction and works the crowd up with a frenzy of rage and propaganda. The speech begins: "The world has abandoned us. We fight alone, against an insidious enemy..."

After that I don't remember. I rented the game and thought the speech was really good. Maybe I should contact the game designers instead. They would probably have that text somewhere. Forget it....more info

  • Should've Been Called Red "Fraction"
First of all, let me start out by saying that I
absolutely loved the original Red Faction. I gave
it 5 stars. So, I expected this sequel to be even
better than the first...NOT!!! Sure, you can just
about blow everything up, but that's where the
    sweetness ends.

My best piece of advice when playing this game:
RELOAD OFTEN. The enemies take a rediculous
amount of punishment before they croak. I basically
used the one weapon which fires three short bursts,
one to knock off the helmet (if he's wearing one),
and two more for a facial. Unless it's an explosive
weapon, the others are useless unless you want to
receive major damage in the process. There's very
little time to take a breather, so be ready to do a
    lot of fighting.

I liked being able to fight along with team members,
except that my actions didn't quite determine their
longevity. I could sit there and do nothing while t
hey're getting shot at and it wouldn't matter. So
much for teamwork. The vehicles and battle suits you
get to use are ok, but infrequent.

Size does matter. I finished this game way too quickly,
partly because it's very short and partly because I
wanted to move on to 007 Nightfire. I had to use a
cheat code to beat the final boss because the fight
is unfair and the health doesn't seem to span when it's
    supposed to.

By my title, I suggested this game should've been called
Red "Fraction" because it's partially fun compared to the
first edition. Too bad I bought it. I'll keep it until
I need to make space for more video games and gladly sell
it. Good rental, but don't put it underneath the Christmas
tree as a present. Try the fireplace instead....more info

  • I liked the original better!
Red Faction 2 is an OK game it lacks what Red Faction mastered. In the first Red Faction you felt like you were there, because in the first you were alone. In the first, you got scared when you would hear someones footsteps and turn around and splatter the wall with a shot gun and their head. Now its: hurry up, shoot 15 machine gunners with 2 pistols! now take out that other guy. Red Faction was more played out and let you ambush one enemy at a time. Now your on a gory rollercoaster ride. When your done you dont have that feeling of accomplishment as you did with the first. In the first you hide the body of a guy so you can take out his friends. Thats realistic. One man normally cant defeat 100 enemies by spraying bullets. RED FACTION WAS MORE STRATEGIC! GO BUY IT FOR 20 DOLLARS INSTEAD OF WASTING YOUR MONEY ON A BORING GAME

  • Total disapointment
I couldn't be a bigger fan of the original Red Faction. It was also a highly rated, well-respected game in the gaming community. So why the game designers decidedly to completely change the format is a complete mystery to me. Instead of being a lone fighter occasionally joined by others (who usually didn't do much) RF2 has you as part of a squad, and the other members get to do the fun stuff (one's a sniper, one's a pilot, etc.), so much of the game plays itself. Also, the game pops in so many enemies one after another, it seems like a simple shooter game like Houses Of The Dead, or whatever. It's just ludicrous; the original was based in realty--there were a finite number of guards at given scenes, for example. Not this game.

If there was no Red Faction to preceed this, I'd have given it a better review. The grafix are cool, and the celeb voices are neat. But this game is not only confusing re: game control and the like, the worst part of it is it's just DIFFERENT than the original....more info

  • Move over halo here comes RF2!!
I played halo. so what? i played X111. who cares? i played red faction 2. AND THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST GAME EVER!!! Tis so fun. see what i like to do is get super health, get a WASP, and some satchels and shoot people when they are far away from me and when they are close up i throw a satchel on them, an automatic death. This game has awesome graphics and i absolutly love the multiplayer option. me and my little sister have contests to see who can make the funniest name for the characters and i usually pick sir robin because i like sir robin from monty python and the holy grail. well anyways typeing in a name enables a little screen at the bottom saying you killed so and so. when you kill the other player on his/her screen it says so and so killed you. which is funny because with the name it will say "Sir Robin killed you". well anyways, i love this game....more info
  • Great Game
A great game. The graphics are 10 times better than Red Faction 1. The pre-rendered cut scenes are nice too. The game play is even better. Fighting along side others is fun. The controls are weird, but they can be changed any way you want. There are more weapons and they are even more powerfull. Sadly, there is no flamethrower, but there is a shotgun with incary charges, (even better!). The story isn't as good as the original as the first one, but is still OK. The multiplayer is soooo much better than RF1. There is even capture the flag. I wish it was on-line or at least had i-link. But at least it supports 4 players....more info

  • All about the multiplayer
this red faction essentially switches places with the first red faction. The first one had a great storyline and one player mode but its multiplayer lacked in levels, options, and only supported two players. The second is completely vice versa. Its stroy has noting to do with the first and it becomes laborous at times to get through it. But dont let that deter you from this game. The multiplayer is the best fps ive played on the ps2 and with so many options its hard to go wrong. 4 player with 2 bots is ideal and with the ability to level up bots to the point where they are insanely good provides quite a challenge. Overall i'd say this is a must buy for the multiplayer and you wont be disappointed but if your just going to play the campaign mode go ahead and skip it. ...more info

Puff, then play Red Faction II's Dictator (or deathmatch if you haven't unlocked dictator) while enjoying Amnesiac on a great system with intense stereo. By the third song you've entered a new state of consciousness and can fold space like the guys in Dune. The single player was ok, but I'm addicted to the multiplayer games (even though I just play against the bots). Great mix of weapons, good environments and character models. With just great solid gameplay. Good Shtuff!...more info
  • Uhhhh......................wut happened?
First things first red faction 1 blows away dis game. This game has an extremely short single player, hard to follow plot, and is NOTHING like red faction 1. Now ur tryin 2 stop some dictator named sopot but the plot wuz so boring i dont kno WHY they were fighting against him. Thers no ultor, mars, parker, none of it. Just some weird group of elite soldiers fighting against dis guy sopot. The single player wuz SO boring dat it took me almost 3 months to beat it......and no not cuz its long. I played dis game for bout an hour or 2 when i first got it then shut it off. Then after 3 months i piked it up again and beat it, but the only thing dat kept me playin wher the guns. Its cool havin a grenade launcher/machine gun lik the rangers in black hawk down hav. But otha than dat dont buy dis game. If ur dat intrested in it rent it......youll beat it in dat week anyway....more info

  • Good Fun...
I bought a PS2 a week ago, and got Red Faction II as a free game included with the system.

Red Faction II is really fun most of the times. The detail is extremely real, and the gameplay was excellent.

However, the game is really confusing. There are more plot twists than a pretzel, and half the time, you have no idea what is going on except that you should shoot down the cyborgs.

Splattering the blood out of innocent bystanders in a game is fun, and this has plenty. But if you're like me, stick to GTA 3 and GTA Vice City.

Red Faction II is fun......more info

  • ok...
this game is ok. it's a lot like Unreal tournament or unreal championship. i hate the controls for this type of game on ps2 though, the joysticks are too close and are too sensitive. this game is kinda fun though but you die way to quickly. i mean you get shot only twice and you die.

    Graphics: 6 - disapointing for ps2

gameplay: 7 - fun but repetitive and boring at times

wepons: 4 - i hate the wepons in this game! there's like 1 or 2 good guns.

in the end this game is pretty fun but i suggest cheacking out unreal championship on xbox, but if you dont have xbox look at unreal tournament 2003 for PC....more info

  • Guns, Guns, Guns, and More Guns
This game is better than the first (primarily by not making it so dang long). The storyline is about a group of nano-enhanced soldiers trying to kill a corrupt dictator, which happens about 1/2 way through the game (then there's a plot twist, but I won't spoil that). There are enemies constantly shooting at you, but, like the title says, you've got plenty of powerful weapons to mow them down. Like the CAS-14 automatic shotgun, the NICW, the AK-47....er I mean the CAR-72 assault rifle, the bolt-action sniper rifle, the MKAP-94 (one of the coolest guns), the WASP (Wide Area Saturation Projectile...need I say more?), and of course; the .50 caliber assault machine gun (assault machine gun is an understatement....it's more like an assault cannon)! The game's single and multiplayer are both fun (if you don't have a multi-tap, you'll be missing out on the multiplayer insanity). If you want to mow down hordes of enemies and have challenging objectives at the same time, this is the game for you!...more info
  • Spiffed Up Graphics, Redone Weapons, Less Emphasis On GeoMod
    Plot:

First thing's first. The plot is very different from that of the orignal. The basic idea is that a team of nano mechanically augmented super-soldiers attempt to overthrow the evil dictator Victor Sopot (with the help of the Red-Faction that it). But after that the plot goes on from there. I did not like the plot as much as I did the orignal, there is little emphasis on the actual Red-Faction (but enough so that you know that the game is in the Red-Faction series). But the Story Mode is not this game's strong point.

    Graphics:

The graphics have been updated from the orignal with good results. No complaints here.

    Sound FX/Music/Voice Overs:

The SFX in this game is, in my humble opinion still very good. With Many of the same sounds you heard from the orignal. No Complaints.

The music is all techno and adds to the background of the game. Listen closely and you may hear music from the orignal. No Complaints.

The voice overs are much like the same in the orignal (just like all of the other sounds). I found that one of the charecters is done by the same person who did Eos from part one. No Complaints.

    Multiplayer:

This in my opinion is the game's strong point. There are--as the back of the case said-- over 40 levels but that is in total. Certain levels are only for certain game modes (Bag Tag, Arena, Deathmatch, Keep-the-Bag, Regime) but that does not take away from the quality of multiplayer.

But there were many changes from the multiplayer game. The Geo-Mod is excruciatingly limited. Meaning you can't make trenches, crevices, hidey-holes, fox holes, tunnels, niches, drop-holes, canyons, caves, caverns, stalagtites/mites/columns, traps, craters, nothing. You can only swiss cheese some of the walls here and there. The weapon tactics have changed also (for the worse). In the orignal you could fire aan FRL into the air where it would hang in the air over your enemy for a small amount of time and then drop with a massive explosion. In this edition, you can do this but the timing and the angle of fire must be positioned exactly, at that point you have to compensate for the time it takes for it to drop on the target (approximatly 13 seconds).

    "What Should I Buy Then?"

If you want a game that has a lot of replay value in either modes of game modes, then RFI is for you. RFII Will bring some entertainment but it is recommended only as a rental.

  • look out halo
THis is one of the best first person shooters availible today. the geo-mod engine is stunning. there is nothing quite as satisfying as blowing away a wall to get to a guard cowering in the corner. the weapons are as powerful as ever. My favorite is either the double pistol or the grenade launcher. there are also a couple of vehicles you can commandeer, such as a submarine, a tank, and (*gasp!*) even a mech! Ah the joy of pure destruction. the submarine levels are quite frustrating because of the atrocious submarine control scheme and the murky water makes it impossible to see five feet in front of your little vehicle. that is my only real complaint with the game.

    Graphics- 8/10.
they are kind of rough around the edges, not the finley tuned masterpice that Metal Gear Solid to was, but they suffice.

    Gameplay- 10/10
this game is perfect gameplay wise. plus you can set the multiplayer up to one person vs the AI, so it can be a single player deathmatch.

    SOund- 9/10
the bullets whizzing by your head sound good, and the anguished screams of men are teriffic. Ballistics are ok, not quite medal of honor quality, but it is sufficient.

    Plot-4/10
somthing about supersoldiers. didnt make much sense, nor do i really care. this game is about the gameplay, baby!

    Replay value- medium.

so buy this game. i dont care what system you have. buy it.

oh- one more thing. GORE. yes parents, this game contains high levels of gore. you launch a grenade at someone, and he literally blows apart and spatters on the wall. I am 14, and this does not bother me at all. far from it. i find it amusing. i just thought id let you know....more info

  • Best First Person Shooter
I have played video games for 15 years, and never have I come across a first person shooter as cool as Red Faction II. Halo fans, put it down and pick up the PS2 controller. This game rocks. Let me tell you why...
First of all, the team based play is genius. The way that your team talks to each other makes you feel like you are a part of the action, and that you have a real part to play in every situation.
Next, the team at Volition made the map with entirely geo mod technology, which means that a whole bunch of stuff blows up. You can find new weapons, bonus missions, and shortcuts with a well placed satchel or grenade. This technology makes the world real and exciting for the player the entire time.
Third, the game varies quite a bit, and every gun has a good point and a purpose in the game. The multiplayer is incredible, with many different styles of play and places to go. The only downside is that only 6 fighters, bots and users, can be in the match at one time. But when a good game of 3 v 3 capture the flag starts, you and your friends may never sleep!
Red Faction II is the best first person shooter, and perhaps one of the best PS2 games on the market today. Buy it now!...more info
  • Great action!
I have read great reviews of the first Red Faction, but many complaints about Red Faction II. First off, I have no complaints about this game, the action is fast and exciting, the controls are easy and I can't say enough about the graphics. I usually don't care for First Person Shooters but this game is a must for anyone who likes action with many different weapons to choose from, it is fun throwing grenades at enemies and hearing them shout, "INCOMING" The sound effects are great and the Geo Mod technology that lets you destroy the environment is awesome. I love the levels when you travel on vehicles, helicopters or tanks, it's great destroying everything in your path and meeting up with your teammates Molov, Quill, Tangier, Shrike, Repta and Echo. You are Alias, a demolitions expert and his primary gun is a grenade launcher that violently blows enemies to pieces, I love this game!...more info
  • Solid Action
Red Faction 2 is just as good as its predecessor, but doesn't have the same feel as the oringinal shoot em up. The first game had more of a plot, better objectives, and a more challenging atmosphere. Don't get me wrong, Red Faction 2 is not a simple game. The under water level, and the final level each took me a very long time to do. Still, the game is action, action, and more action but the actions is so good, that the game player probably won't mind it. Alias is a decent hero, much like Parker in the first game, and the unique plot twist half way through Red Faction 2 was a very good idea. Where this game does surpass its original is in the area of weapons. Red Faction 2 has a great deal more weapons than Red Faction, all capable of doing the coolest things a video game has seen in a while. The multiplayer is much the same as the original, and overall, Red Faction 2 is a good game....more info

(I just beat it tonight so I'm not sure) the other thing I did not like is the fact that you can only have 6 epople, be it bots or human players at a time.

you cirtanly get a good amount of weapons in this game. even compaired to the weapon-filled first one. you also have the ability to have to weapons at the same time (unlike the 1st one). also while your holding a weapon you can throw a granade with your other hand.

the other thing that is good is the Atifical Intelagance. the enimy will hide and come out at you-so on...

    here is the final tally

    multyplayer
    how fun:5/5
    functionality:3/5
    maps:3/5

    single player
    how fun:5++/5
    functionality:5/5
    leingth:3.5/5
    maps:from about 3 to 5+/5

---I just hope that the x-box and game cube versions won't be better-that would make me mad---

my fears are only that they would add more players to the multiplayer...more info

  • good but hindered
If you are a fan of Red Faction then you may be a bit dissapointed. First off, few levels actually require any strategy, follow the obvious path and kill all the enemies. Second, there is no disguising or hiding bodies or talking to people. Destructable objects? This is a joke compared to the original. You can no longer "create your own door". The game only lets you destroy things to pass a scenario or somthing so miniscule that it is not really fun to destroy. There is also barely any reference to the first game. Parker is not even mentioned in this game. The graphics, nothing special.
Positives: Sometimes you will pair up with a squad member who is invincible. So in this case it is best to just to take cover while they kill all the enemies. The AI is also better. The graphics are better, also. There are also some veichles that you can control. Unfortunantly though, half of the vehicles that you ride in you can only control the guns. There are now more weapons and you can hold a weapon in one hand and throw a grenade with the other. There is also the ability to hold two of the same guns at once. There is again a multiplayer, but it has some new levels and several new game modes. There is also at least one level in multiplayer that is the same as one of the original's multiplayer levels. It is a good game for shooter fans if it is 20 or 30 dollars. ...more info
