  • Great Workout, Disappointing DVD
I got this DVD already prepared for the annoying chit chat. I was expecting the silly laugh and the nonsense discussion. It is a great workout, and I use hand weights instead of the belt. I am challenged and feel great afterward. It does not require too much space for movement, and it also has no fancy footwork.

The only thing I am upset with is the format of the DVD. I bought the DVD because I didn't want to have to fast forward to the spot I wanted - I wanted to have a menu or something...to be able to skip to the cool down if I wanted to finish before the end of the workout. Nope, still have to fast forward! No menu!! DVD in my opinion is nothing but a compact video tape. LOL...it is less bulky than the VHS, but I wanted the convenience of chapter selections. I also have to FF through the introductory material. If I'd have known this, I would have saved myself SEVERAL BUCKS and bought a VHS from the Amazon Marketplace. >:(

Incidentally, the Four Mile Express Super Challenge workout DVD, unfortunately, is the same way.

Anyway, the cruddy DVD format is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. If storage space isn't an issue, there is no difference between the DVD and VHS....more info
  • Very Effective Workout
Although I agree with one reviewer here about the lack of menu control on the DVD, I also agree that it is one of the best programs I have ever used. I own the DVD which contains the 1-mile, 2-mile and 3-mile programs. For a beginner, the warmups and cool downs may not seem long enough (I solve the cool down problem by walking around the house slowly until the sweat stops dripping) but once you are conditioned, the warmup will be enough; otherwise, you could pause it and continue to walk in place until you feel you are sufficiently warmed up and then continue the tape. I think it is one of the most effective workouts out there. I especially love using the belt. It increases the challenge and really works well on my arms, back and breast/chest muscles. I haven't really noticed as much of an effect on my waist, hips and legs as I do on my arms and calves but I am sticking with this one because I feel that I will see results with continued use. I am firmer all over and have much more energy. It is not a speedy weight/inches loss program. It has been the most effective I have used since the Buns of Steel tapes of the late 80's/early 90's. I think the music has appropriate timing for whatever movement you are doing at the time and fun because it isn't music I would buy or listen to normally but works with this workout program. I don't mind Leslie's chatter. She loses count a little because of her talking but I don't mind. I like the way the walkers seem to be having fun and they are all attractive but not overly attractive, certainly not as unattractive as those in the awful Sexy & Fit After 40 program (had to sneak that in). Leslie interacts with each of the walkers. The tape shows varying degrees of fitness. Mostly they are all fit even if Jo appears to be a little heavy. It is a tape that I look forward to performing at least 5 nights a week. Leslie does a good job of demonstrating the moves before you perform them. The only error I find in her instructions is that she doesn't warn you from the beginning to pace yourself and not to attempt every move they do if you are not conditioned. Once you are conditioned and accustomed to the pace, you will want to move up in the miles. I am ready for 4 miles. I use this tape to prepare for the annual breast cancer walk. It really is a great tape. I did not give it a 5 because of the lack of menu control, Leslie not giving a warning early and often about pacing yourself. One other complaint I have applies to many exercise tapes and that is that there is not a list of accessories necessary to perform the routine. I did not see the outside rear of the box when I purchased this item and so wasn't aware of needing the belt before watching it the first time. I wouldn't pay $30 for one level of this program. I bought the 3 level DVD for $10. I bought the Bally belt for $8 plus shipping on Amazon. Great buy all around....more info
  • Very good workout !!
I find this tape to be a very good upper body workout. While first using it, I found my arms really getting tired and feeling the "burn" --but after several weeks it is quite easy. Generally I do the 3 mile walking tape and then this 3 miles for abs tape--really a good fat burner....more info
  • Your Stomach WILL See Results...
All of Ms.Sansome's walking workouts are awesome! If you want to flatten your stomach, this work out will accomplish just that!!! After just a few days using this workout I could see a difference in my stomach. I have been walking with Ms.Sansome for approximately 6 months now. I can tell a difference in my endurance level. Earlier this month my husband and I went on vacation and the trip required a lot of walking. I could go 2 or 3 miles without breaking a sweat or heavy breathing....my husband was lagging behind and normally it's the other way around. He was amazed. These workouts are affordable and well worth your time! ...more info
  • Very enjoyable
I have some of Sansone's other tapes, but at times I get bored with them. This one, on the other hand, makes it a bit harder to get bored. The music is better--more upbeat and faster, maybe a little cheesy, but it makes the workout both more fun and more intense. The belt isn't my favorite, but I don't dislike it either. Haven't had any snapping problems yet as others have reported, but haven't had it long. Overall, good workout that doesn't get you too sweaty but does get you breathing harder and working those muscles....more info
  • It really works! In weeks!
A co-worker (a nurse) loaned me this DVD. She is a very motivated fitness buff and I am, well, a little less so. With winter and holidays closing in, I needed to move myself indoors and still keep moving. This DVD is the perfect solution - I am now a convert. My co-worker was so right - ANYONE can do this, ANYONE can get healthy!

And it's fairly simple. And it's fun. And you want to go back the next day and the next. That's saying a whole lot about motivation. I did not have the Walk Away belt but followed along anyway just doing the hand movements and started seeing results within doing the DVD 8 times. I couldn't do 3 miles until the 4th time but, as Leslie would say, that's OK - just go at your own pace but keep walking! This DVD is set up to go at your own pace and working up to all 3 miles is something to shoot for. (I finally got up to the 3rd mile the day some Christmas cookies and fudge came into the office). You won't believe how accomplished you feel when you finally do finish the tape and get to that 3rd mile! Leslie does a great job of bumping up the pace for each segment and then bumping it back down again. The moves are easy for even the clutziest person. Truly, anyone can do this. Yes, between 2 and 2.5 miles you are ready to rethink the whole fitness goal but then it gets better and slower.

And you will see results. My sister sees me every week and the 2nd week after I started doing this DVD she walked in and asked, "What are you doing - you're looking a lot trimmer!" Success! thanks to Leslie Sansone! ...more info
  • Wicked Cool Results!!!
I am so very impressed with this workout! I did this workout five to six days a week, plus followed a diet that was tailored for me by a nutritionist (paid for by my insurance co.), and lost 14lbs. in one month!!!!! I know some other reviewers are not impressed with Leslie's "chatter", but I love her and her chatter...she bouyed me on everyday. I also do not use the ab belt, but I use weights instead, still a perfect workout. I now know the tape by heart, and both my 5yr old son and my husband get a kick out of watching me do the workout and pretended to be Leslie.(LOL). I really can't say enough about how much Leslie has changed my life. Try it, and you will not be dissapointed...I wasn't and I'm 14lbs lighter and still going!...more info
  • Good workout, bad DVD format
I agree with the disappointment in how the DVD is set up. It really is no better than a VHS. The only advantage you have is not having to remember to rewind when you are done. It's not much, but after awhile you resent being held hostage through the warnings and logos at the beginning that you can't fast forward through, and the lack of chapters is disappointing.

The other thing these DVDs need is a feature where you can turn off the talking and just have music like Tamilee Webb has on many of her DVDs. You either like Leslie or you don't, but I bet that she could increase sales among those who like the workouts but hate the chatter by including this feature. If you're going to make a DVD, you might as well give it some DVD features.

I like the workouts on her WATP-Abs for themselves. I like wearing the belt, although you'd do just as well with a stretch band or weights. I'm not convinced they really do work the abs, but they definitely work your upper body. It does seem odd that her excercisers for the most part are not wearing the belt correctly--they have it on quite loosely. I would LOVE, however, to be able to chapter ahead to the cooldown when I don't have 45 minutes to exercise. I do have the shorter workouts, but they are not as challenging as the 3 mile....more info
  • Want variety?? Try this!!
Well I got this as my second video (i owned the 1 mile 1st) and to be honest i was a bit skeptical. However i interchange between the one and three mile every day. One day the one mile the next day the three mile. After 2-3 workouts i was feeling great afterwards, just tired. But now at my 5th or 6th time doing it , i'am recovering much quicker and it seems to go by in half an hour rather than the 51 minutes!!!!

I used to sleep in insanely, but now I'm encouraged to get up....to this video!!! The one mile is nice also, I just wanted something more challenging after a while. The music doesn't make me so annoyed, i just don't like some of her song selections. I dont' have the belt, and i don't think i intend on buying it, especially after all the complainty reviews I've read of it breaking.....

Also i got this dvd at my local Target for $14.99. IT might seem a bit outrageous, but it's worth it. I wish though that i' would've looked on here first. Another great thing about this dvd is the variety she add's to the well known steps.

I love the squats, the doubles and the two up, two backs!! Sorry for such a long review....but all in all, I'd say it's worth it!!! Make sure to buy several other video's though, so you dont' start hating this one, it does get kind of boring!!!! ...more info
  • Think walking can't be challenging? Think again!
This was my first-ever Leslie Sansone video, and I was surprised by how tough it was, especially given that I already exercise regularly and have even started a running program in the past month. Leslie uses four basic moves--march, side step, front kick, and knee lift--but varies the speed and execution of each movement to change the intensity. In addition, this workout uses Leslie's special weight belt for upper body toning work; I don't own the belt, so I substituted light (3 lb.) hand weights throughout the workout.

The workout begins with Leslie introducing the four basic moves, and in the warm-up phase, she gradually picks up the pace until you are moving along at a fairly good clip. At this point (about 10 minutes into the workout), she introduces use of the belt or weights for some basic upper body exercises, including overhead press and flies. For the middle part of the workout, or Mile 2, the weights are not used, as the pace increases considerably. Although the movements stayed the same, I sometimes found it a bit difficult to keep up with Leslie's quick movements. However, Leslie is extremely encouraging, frequently saying that it's okay to go at your own pace and not to follow her form exactly. For the first half of the last mile, the belt or weights are again used, repeating many of the previous exercises. The pace then slows down a bit to start bringing your heart rate back to normal, and finally, the last 2 minutes of the workout consists of cool-down stretches for a total of 44 minutes.

The only problem I had with this workout is the title, as I think it would have more appropriately been named WATP for Upper Body rather than Abs. Leslie does provide frequent reminders to concentrate on your abs and some of the moves (especially the knee lifts) do work the abdominal area, but the toning segments were more focused on the upper body in general. Overall, however, I found this to be an excellent cardio workout, and although the moves are repetitive, the time really does fly by. It is probably most appropriate for intermediate exercisers, but experienced beginners could manage by moving at a slower pace and skipping the weights....more info
  • Great In-home workout!
I had never heard of Leslie Sansone until about 2-1/2 years ago, and I've been exercising with her ever since! The doctor told me I needed to exercise at least 30 min every day, and I'm like "when am supposed to do that???" That's why I LOVE Leslie Sansone's in-home walking workouts because I can get up earlier in the morning and exercise before I go to work. Then I can exercise at night again if I want, and it doesn't matter what the weather is outside! And the other great thing about Leslie's workouts is that you do only as much as you can and have time for. Every little bit helps! I can see how much I've improved my health in the time I've worked out, both physically and mentally. Exercise IS a natural stress reliever, and it helps me keep a good frame of mind....more info
  • Amazing Workout!!
I absolutely love Leslie Sansone! She is totally down to earth and makes the workout tons of fun! It is like walking with your favorite Aunt, cousin, best friend, neighbor, etc. She is just wonderful and very efficient with her cues. The people in her video are also very down to earth folks and extremely inspiring. You see people of so many different age ranges that it only motivates you to exercise along with them. You work up a wonderful sweat for despite the fact that you are just walking, it is quite a cardio workout and Leslie does incorporate kicks, knee lifts and kickbacks in the exercise along with some toning using the belt. However, since I don't have the belt yet I used stretchy bands and got a great workout just the same. I completely recommend this product!...more info
  • Great walking/ab routine!
I received a good workout without the recommended Ab Belt. She provides alternate moves without the belt, therefore it will not hinder your results. Personally, if I don't have to do crunches for ab work, I'm all for that! It's a fun and fast routine and a good one to add to your arsenal of ab workouts.

  • Excellent - lots of fun
This is my favorite dvd. It feels like getting together with good friends.
The music is excellent and upbeat. I use the dvd without the belt. The routine is fun and has made by body stronger in that I can climb stairs and function in the world. If you can, raise your legs high on knee lifts,
swing your arms on leg lifts to increase muscle usage.

  • This is one of Leslie's best workouts
I don't have the walk belt but really like this workout with handweights. This one has a great tempo and you really work up a sweat. I think this will be one of my favorite Leslie workouts....more info
  • One of my favorites- and I am not at all coordinated
I have been doing the Walk Away the Pounds almost every day for a year or so and I think this is one of my favorites- I enjoy the walkers and Leslie's bubbliness does not bother me. I am glad that I was familiar with the WATP Express series because the stretch at the end of those tapes is much better and can be incorporated into the end of the WATP for Abs which has poor stretching segment. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the end stretch and the fact that I have had to replace the elastic on the belt more than once this year (which you have to buy seperately).

  • Great Workout!
I own a collection of Leslie's work out programs, and this is one of my favorites! It's fast-paced, and I really work up a sweat. It targets all parts of your body, not just abs. The walkers are wearing the abs belt (which you have to buy separately). I don't have the belt, but use 3 lb. weights instead. It works just as well.

Both the music and the energetic group of walkers make the time fly by. It takes about 45 minutes to complete the 3 miles. Throughout the program, Leslie shows the meter at 1/2 mile increments so you can see how far you've gone.

As this is in a DVD format, I should be able to bypass the sales pitch for the abs belt in the beginning of the program and just get to the warm-up; however, you have to fast forward. ...more info
  • BEST DECISION I MADE

  • Great workout using the ab belt throughout the whole DVD
I have 3 DVD's that incorporate Leslie's ab belt, but this is by far my favorite one. The music is very motivating and it's a 3 mile workout that gives you a great overall feeling. I have at least a dozen of Leslie's DVD's and this is one of my favorites....more info
  • safe and effective
My mom used this tape when I was in HS and I started doing it the summer before college. I went from a pants size 6 to 2 that summer. It was so effective so fast!

In college I had free gym access so I tried all sorts of cardio and weight machines but in the end I always come back to this tape. It takes less time (no commuting), gives you more of a whole-body workout, and is way less tedious than running nowhere for 30 mins on an elliptical. Also, my joints used to hurt after working out on cardio machines at the gym because of the repetitive motion and repeating impacts on the same joints. This tape provides the same intensity workout with varied movements so that it distributes the impact better. This tape keeps you motivated over the full 45 mins, unlike sometimes when you're at the gym and you go home because you feel tired after 10 mins. I like the one for abs because the belt forces me to stand up straight and keep my abs in. My mom has some other ones but I can't say that I have used them much at all.

Last summer I graduated from college and I started looking into gym memberships, but they are all so expensive, even the student rates at my school are way more $ than this tape. I highly recommend at-home walking as your primary form of exercise....more info
  • Not able to maximize workout.
The walking program is very good, but in order to maximize the workout for ABS (which is why I purchased it) a belt is needed. This piece of equipment is not pictured, or mentioned on the cover. Without the belt it's just another DVD for walking. ...more info
  • It's Good.
I have been using Leslie's Walk Away the Pounds Express II 4 mile walk tape (which I really have enjoyed) and was looking for something new when I discovered this tape. I think Leslie's queing has really improved. She still talks almost non-stop, but it's not as annoying as some of her other tapes. I used 2 lb weights (read too many stories about the belt not holding up well, so didn't get it) and really could feel this.

Collage Video catalogue rates this tape as intermediate. I have been exercising regularly for the last 3 years, and I have to say that this tape had me breathing hard by the end. A couple of the "regulars" who appear in almost all her tapes mentioned that it was "tough" for them too!

The music is good and loud enough to hear, unlike some of her previous tapes. Only she does tend to use the same songs over and over on her various tapes. There's at least one song on this one that is on her 2 Mile and 4 Mile Walk Off Weight Vol 2 and Vol 3 series. That's a little irritating.

It's fast paced and before you know it, you're done. It's a keeper....more info

  • ANOTHER WINNER !
I love this one and always get a good sweat. It's about 45 minutes long, very motivating, and simple. The pink set added a nice and calming touch to the workout. Instead of the walkaway belt, I use 2 lb hand weights. I love it! Get it and get fit! I don't think you'll be sorry!...more info
  • Great 3 mile work out!!!
I have quite a few WATP tapes from Leslie. I know she chatters a lot through her tapes but I have learned to block that out. I like the fact that she encourages and shows you how to modify the steps if it is too much for you. This a fast paced 3 mile tape. I have her other 3 mile tape and I love the music on this one and it is at a much quicker pace. I do not have the belt but I use 3lb weights and it works the same. I do like seeing some familiar faces who usually walk with her. I really work up a sweat at the end and feel I have worked my upper and lower body. ...more info
  • Not a bad walk but she offers better ones
Not sure I buy into the "ab belt"...I didn't even buy the belt but tied my elasic/stretchy exercise cord around my waist and used it instead for arm workout. The walk part was great. The upper body seemed to focus too much on shoulders and it often strained my elbows. A bit too many forced references to God. All-in-all it is a worthwhile video to try just for the walk alone (with tv on mute and no belt)....more info
  • My Favorite Leslie Sansone Walking Workouts
I have many of Leslie Sansone's walking DVD's and I think this is my favorite. It uses the WATP Belt - and I can't tell if this Amazon listing includes it or not. You don't have to have the belt to do the workout, but I think it makes the workout more effective. (The belt velcros around your waist and has stretch cording between the belt and the handles. I do weight workouts and was surprised to feel some arm fatigue while doing the workout.)

This workout has three separate routines - 1 mile, 2 mile and 3 miles Note/Warning: The 1 and 2 mile workouts are the same ones on the WATP for Abs - 2 Miles, so if you're trying to decide between the two, I'd recommend buying this one to get all three workouts in one - it's a great deal.

The belt is used off and on during the workout, but mainly during the periods when the walking isn't quite as brisk. While not interval training, the brisk walking moves at a pretty quick pace.

While Leslie talks throughout the whole routine, I didn't find her at all annoying, but encourating, motivating and energizing. This workout recognizes half mile intervals, which I particularly like - and each one goes by incredibly quickly - more so than any of the others I do regularly.

The only criticism I have at all with these workouts is that the stretch doesn't include the usual leg and lower back stretch in most of her other routines. It includes only a stretch where you raise your arms above your head. I simply take the time to do the stretches on my own that are on her other workouts, but find it odd that she goes to great lengths on the other DVD's to stress the importance of stretching, only to leave it out on this one. Still, it doesn't really detract from the workout itself being an enjoyable one!...more info
