  • really fun
the game is a step up from the first one. you can upgrade your weapons by just using them, which is really cool so you dont have to buy them like in the first one. its just really great fun and the humor is great too....more info
  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando Review
Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando is an excellent follow up to the superb platformer Ratchet & Clank. The storyline is similar to the first game and basically involves the protagonists, (R&C you guessed it) journey as the attempt to rid the galaxy of an evil threat. The game features exciting fast paced combat, with quite a variety of guns at your disposal. There are also a variety of subquests in which you participate in activities such as bike racing, spaceship dogfighting, and manning a turret, to name a few. In addition to having more weapons than the original R&C, in this installation your weapons gain experienced when used, and eventually level up. Leveling up trnasforms the weapon in a positive way, making it more powerful and in some cases adds another functionality. Another improvement from the first game is the ability to strafe, allowing more in-depth control during situations where there can be tons of objects to dodge The difficulty of this game is just about right, and the sound and environment are incredibly well done. My only complaints are that the gameplay is slightly repetitive and, this ties into the second complaint, if you want to completely beat this game and get every weapon fully upgraded, you're going to have to do a lot of repetitive gameplay to acquire the necessary amount of bolts to purchase all the weapons. Overall, 9.1 out of 10, I strongly recommend this title to a newcomer or follower of the series, or anyone looking for a solid 20ish hour action adventure game. ...more info
  • THIS IS AWSOME!
The first time I played this I craped my pants, it was so sweet, there are like 24 weapons and most of them up-grade to even sweeter weapons. I beat it already.. and now its even funner! You start with all your weapons and health so you can blow the crap outa things that you couldnt before! The maxi games are wicked, the space battles are the funnest, so are the hoverbike races. This is one the greatest games EVER! Ive told you enough, so go get it! NOW... NOW NOW NOW NOW NOW!!!!!!!!...more info
  • Cool
This game looks really sweet, i haven't played it yet but i own the first one and its awsome, so this one must be even better!...more info
  • This is Good!
R&C Going Commando is everything a video game should be. Blend of terrific graphics, good humor (somewhat black, which makes it even better), and varied challenges. Lots of variety sure to keep anyone engaged to the very end, and then lots of extra challenges to encourage playing the game over again once you're done the first time. Lots of game play for your buck, especially now that the price has come down. ...more info
  • pretty cool game
ratchet and clank broke a few barriars when it came out, so does it sequal do it too? i can answer that with 1 word... yeah!!! the game's great. it takes all the elements from the 1st game, multiplies them, then tops it off by adding more elements like the upgrade system and armor. the story's not too bad, but most of the time, you don't play games for the story.

the gameplay is solid. the controls are good and the graphics are nice. turning and jumping are perfect. as i said before, the graphics are good. the draw distance, textures and character design are nearly flawless.

the game consists of buying, upgrading and of coures useing weapons in a 3rd person shooter to finish 1 of multiple missions the levels offers you. you can find hidden items to help you along the way as well. some of the weapons and gadgets are awsome to use, and what's more impressive, YOU control them.

the game is not flawless buy any means, but it gives the fellow gamer a satifying experience now and in the future. it's a must have for all gamers....more info
  • Highly Recommnended
For those of you looking into the archives of noteworthy games you may have missed for the PS2, Ratchet & Clank Going Commando is a game that must be played. Ninja Gaiden for the XBOX is my personal favorite for all time best action/platforming game. God of War is a close second. R & C GC is the kid-friendly equivalent. My four year old is totally hooked and I can't stop playing it either. That's not saying that this game is easy. On the contrary, there are some parts that are just plain unforgiving and quite challenging even for a seasoned gamer. It just has terrific production values. There are hidden themes that only adults will pick up on (the Title for instance). It very Shrek-like, in that manner.

    Pros:
¡¤The greatest plethora of weapons for any video game I have ever played, and we are not just talking quantity here. There are some great RPG-like elements utilized to upgrade weapon functionality. Many of the weapons are original in design and very fun to use.
    ¡¤Platforming elements are superbly designed
¡¤Expertly designed levels and there are plenty of them. Attention to detail and interactive environments shows that a lot of time went into the development of this production.
¡¤Tight controls. The full realization of the PS2 controller is almost "Metal Gear Solid 3" good for those of you who know what I am talking about.
    ¡¤Graphics are well done.
¡¤The story won't win a Pulitzer, but both of my young children enjoyed it.
¡¤Longevity is excellent as there are plenty of secrets to reveal and playing it a second time in challenge mode allows you to further upgrade those awesome weapons on a harder set of enemy characters. It's like playing a different game the second time through.
¡¤Excellent musical score, voice-acting, environmental and weapons sounds.

    Cons:
¡¤There are really none. The only one that bothers me a little bit, and I am really reaching here, is that I didn't notice any significant improvement in graphical quality in Progressive mode.

If you missed playing this game a few years ago, go purchase this right now without hesitation. For those of you with children, I especially recommend playing this game with them.

  • Hands down awesome!
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando is an extremely superb game. A week ago I was amazed by the complexity of Up Your Arsenal (Ratchet&Clank3), so I asked to borrow Going Commando. It blew me away. All the time I was thinking 'why didn't I get this game a year ago when it came out?' It [...] me in. It also sucked my friends in. One played it all night. The other used to think it wasn't good at all, but after he watched me use all the cool weapons and gadgets, he was begging for the controller. BUY THIS GAME (if you have a PS2) RIGHT NOW!...more info
  • Best platform game series ever?
Yeah, yeah - my title may be a bit of hyperbole but this series has been so consistently enjoyable that I must give it highest marks. I have played the first three games in the franchise and they have evolved perfectly. Strangely enough, I played them out of order, starting with 3 but quickly buying the first two because I was confident that they would satisfy. Each iteration improved significantly, with this game allowing smarter weapons and gadget interfaces than the first game, like allowing a pause during weapons selection or automatic gadget selection when you come to locked doors. Also, you can destroy more of your environment than in #1, an aspect of this game that is so pleasing when you just want to blow things up. One defect is how stingy the game is with bolts (the monetary unit), so that it takes FOREVER to buy the pricier items (I tried saving and saving to get the top-rank armor and never got it in my first go through). Luckily, you are allowed to keep your weapons through repeated runs through the game and you can keep upgrading weapons and armor until you get everything so replayability is high (but things get a little stale if you replay directly after a win - save it for later).

This game is a classic platformer and #3 is even better. Want to blow stuff up in satisfying (and sometimes humorous) ways? This is the game for you. Still waiting to buy the later ones......more info
  • awesome
This game is an awesome sequel to the origional. I would recomend buying #1 first, because there is a part in the game where you can get 4 of the original weapons for free if you put them on the same memory card. Basicaly a monster has been stolen and you need to get it back before the thief can use it to cause mass destruction and mahem. You can do it with ratchet and clank! ...more info
  • Wonderful!
This is truly the gem of the series. If you want a solid representation of this R&C, start here and you'll be hooked.

R&C is a standard 3rd-person shooter, but manages to stand out above the rest. Its simple and humorous story-line results in a rather linear advancement... but always with a few objectives at once so that you can decide where you'd rather go first. The weapons are always entertaining, and the enemies will almost always pose a challenge.

Compared to the 1st and 3rd in the series:

Insomniac took R&C1 and upgraded it immensely! They added the ability to upgrade weapons, a steady health increase, and progressively more difficult enemies. They even expanded the worlds to be much larger and more complex.

When compared to R&C3, this game reigns supreme. R&C3 got rid of the races, simplified the maps (shortening the game in general), and made weapon upgrades such small improvements that they never feel different. R&C3, however, did add the little Qwark mini-games, but those are never challenging, and just serve as a way to earn more bolts.

Regardless of your age, if you enjoy blowing things up or turning them into sheep, this game is worth your time and money. As an added bonus, it includes the voice acting of Neil Flynn (Janitor on "Scrubs") and Kath Soucie (Cubert on "Futurama")!...more info

I have played all of the ratchet and clank games and I have to say. This is its' biggest succes. It is extremely fun and I enjoy it alot. I say this is one of my favorite adventrue games.Jak II...more info
  • great replay value
this was one of the best games to play 2 times just because of all the weapons you can upgrade the second time around. i bought this game along with jak 2 at the same time and this one was much better. jak 2 was a little too difficult maneuvering around while this one was just fun. this game was not too difficult which just made the fun value even higher. there were so many guns that were just cool to use. this is just about the best shoot em up game out there as for ease of use....more info
  • Ratchet and Clank going commando
I like this game because you have all new moves and guns. There are all new villains and levels to beat. There are also new mini games to beat. They are awesome. Especially the ones where you try to keep the ball moving. So don't get other Ratchet and Clank games, get this one. ...more info
  • Awesome game
One person said that the game was boring because you had to buy armor and that Jak and Daxter was much better. First of all, Jak and Daxter was a horrible game. The only way to kill enemies was twirling around like a friggin' ballerina. Let me ask you a question. Would you rather twirl around until your enemy passes out from laughing at you because you look like an idiot or would you like to turn them into a sheep? That's what I thought. Now that I have settled that dispute I can tell you that this is the best game I own. I put over 95 hours into playing the first game. No I'm not stupid. But I did get all the armor/ weapons in the first time around. I have just started to play the game over in cahllenge mode and it is even better. What with the cool weapons, awesome style of graphics, space fights, arena fights, hoverbike races, and hilarious cutscenes, this is the best game. Ever. ...more info
  • Finished it in record time.
I finished this game in a little over 2 months, which is amazingly fast for me. Its very similar to the first game. You get more glitches in the camera views with this one though. The newer weapons, with the upgrades, are pretty cool. You can beat the final boss without aquiring any super-weapons, like the RYNO. Just make sure you upgrade the weapons you have to their full potential.

Its a fun game that should help you kill some time when you need to. [...] Its hardly any more offensive than an episode of Tom and Jerry....more info

  • Lawn Ninjas!
This is one of those rare games that I just couldn't put away. There's so...many...things...to...do. Every moment is worth it because the game is constantly rewarding you. If you're not collecting bolts, you're health and weapons are getting upgraded. If you've got plenty of bolts, you can splurge on a super nice weapon that's a gas to use. I spent 40 hours before I finally beat it. It's just too bad that the timer resets itself... If I spent 80 or 160 hours playing a game, I'd consider it a badge of pride....more info
  • Worth the Effort
I am a big fan of the first Ratchet and Clank and this one continues the fun. The reason I like these games is you get out of it what you put into it. I am not an advanced gamer but like this game because I can work my way to the end. You set the difficulty by how you progress through each world. If you are diligent and collect what you need and buy the right weapons strategizing as you go you keep advancing. The biggest drawback is that I have gone through the game the second time (challenge mode) and still have several weapons not fully upgraded. I was able to collect all the nanotech and get all the skill points but I did get stuck on the three Ace Bunyan challenges. The final battle is slightly anticlimatic (easy with the RYNO and Shield Charger) but the journey was worth the effort. ...more info
  • very good game
the weapons are better and you can upgrade them with platinum bolts. the weapons are more expensive but there are races and battles you can enter for bolts. it's a cool game and you should get it....more info
  • Pretty and funny, but that's about it...
Many people may disagree with me on this, but this game just isn't very fun. THe graphics are wonderful, and when you play the first few missions, you feel as though this is one of the greatest games ever. Then that feeling comes to a screeching halt when you buy your first armor. If it weren't for the friggin' armor in this game, I definately would have given this a five. From one point on, you have to continuously buy armor in order to make it through a certain few levels, because if you don't you're screwed. The last armor is a million bolts. A MILLION BOLTS. To raise that grit I had to beat one level ten times, and seeing as how the level was huge, that got extremely boring. In order to raise money for this without doing what I did, you would have to spend nearly nothing throughout the game, which is hard seeing as how it is necessary to spend up to 10,000 bolts in order to gain one little bit of info from some cheap citizen. I am a big Jak and Daxter fan, and I'm used to big environments where you can choose how to approach the situation. Not so in this game. There is one and only one way to get to a certain point, and the environment just goes in one big circle. However if you were a fan of the first R&C and you can't help but waste more money on crap like this, go ahead. I won't stop you.

  • Favorite Game
Ratchet and Clank is my favorite game series. It's right up there with Tekken, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Jak. There are two main reasons I love Ratchet and Clank. The first is the lush and beautifully animated worlds. You can tell the game designers really poured their hearts into creating a living, breathing, and fun environment to fire your awesome weapons. The foliage bounces around and everything just makes you feel satisfied inside. My second reason for why this game is a piece of greatness is the replay value. The idea to make the weapons upgradable was superb. Almost every weapon can be upgraded after use, modded, and upgraded again after buying the mega-weapon bar. It's a great game to pop in and play for an hour or so if you're bored. This game is just plain fun. Everything comes together perfectly creating a gaming nirvana that is Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando. My highest recommednations....more info
  • Awesome!! My 4 year old loves it!!
My 4 year old got Going Commando for his birthday and he loves it even more that the original Ratchet and Clank. He's almost done with it....just the last 3 worlds to conquer (with mommies help in places of course). It's taken him over a month to get this far and he's racked up 100 hours of play time on the game but for the most part he is doing it himself. We all love this game here at our house and I would recommend it to anyone out there....more info

  • One of the best games ever
Ratchet and Clank going comando was probably the best game ever. I bought Ps2 just to play this game and some others.Buy it whatever the cost is....more info
  • Great fun but has money problems
There are a lot of reasons to really like this game. The environments are varied and look great, the animation is good, and the comic element that made the 1st installment just that little bit more fun is still there. The weapons are great, too.

The camera works fine and rarely refuses to let you get the view you want, and most of the game can be figured out without having to restort to a walk-through.

But, there are two major annoyances. The first, and smaller of the two, are the hovercar races. If you're not in 1st place by the end of the first 10 seconds, you may as well start over. I really, really dislike the races. The second is the amount of money (bolts) it takes to buy weapons. They are quite expensive and the only way to earn bolts at any decent rate to buy them is to play the arena games or hovercar races over and over and over and over. Each time you play a race or arena level the amount of winnings drops, so you can't just pick one or two and fill up.

Plus, there's an area where you can get "all" your weapons from the 1st R&C game for free (if you have a completed R&C on your memory card), but they don't give you the RYNO, and it's ONE MILLION BOLTS. I'm sorry, but the arena games and races are not the answer to this.

It also takes some weapons forever to upgrade, even ones you use a great deal. So you end up between a rock and a hard place: You have to use a weapon for it to upgrade (you can see the scale move on the weapon icon), but then you have to keep spending to reload (free ammo isn't rare, but you don't always get what you want); which takes you farther and farther from affording better weapons.

In short, the hovercar races are rare, so if it weren't for the money/buying weapons problem this game would get 5 stars....more info
  • This game is great!
This game is much better than the first Ratchet and Clank. I think you should buy this game. The story line is great, and watch the videos most of them are funny. This is one of the best games I have. The graphics are great. Also, it has cool weapons and armor. If you beat the game you unlock first person mode, shortcuts, The random stuff menu, and more movies. ...more info
  • A very fun challenging game
I got this one before playing the first so I can't compare the two. But Ratchet and Clank Going Commando blew me away. I love blowing stuff up and following the story line was great. I was really amazed that you need to go back to planets you've already been to. Unlike many games that once you did the mission you never go back.
There are many surprises and things to see. If I could request a weapon to be added, I'd like a lasso like in the Star Wars Bounty Hunter game. Not only would it be exciting to grab things and people (to bring closer and whack with the wrench). But I'd like to swing from buildings, similar to the swingshot but more capabilities. I think it would have been cool if in the Insomniac Museum they could have a "suggestion box" that when you get there you are given a special e-mail address to email the game creators. Or even when you send the email, you get a greeting card reply from Ratchet and Clank congratulating you on your mission. I'm now anxious to get the next Ratchet and Clank game. Very fun and hard to stop playing, Enjoy this new addicting game....more info
  • Fun yet challenging
Unlike many game sequels, this one has improved. The only thing that really hasn't changed are the graphics. In this edition, you get a ton of new weapons and you can upgrade them at certain vendors. You even get to upgrade your ship by adding on shields, guns and other mods. What makes this game fun is that there are several mini games within the main game.
The one thing I don't like about this game is that you can't move forward onto different planets unless you complete all tasks on previous planets. For example, you must win a Hoverboard race before you're given a map for the next planet. I think this will be frustrating to many gamers and may cause some to pass on the game entirely. It was frustrating to me because this wasn't a requirement in the previous game.
Overall, I'd recommend picking up this game. It's a fun, relaxed game that you don't need to take seriously....more info
  • This game is awesome
Ratchet and Clank is a great series for all ages and Going Commando is another great classic from the creators. The game plays more like The first Ratchet and Clank except it's a lil better. The new weapons and gadgets give this a whole new meaning to the word "fun"

Graphics in this game are superb and a lil bit of slow downs but no worries this game is still fun and out of control. The graphics are also very neat and clean which makes it better with Not many glitches so that's still good

    Sound
The sound and music is great, there are a few songs that I loved in this game such as the one planet you go to right after you get the sheepinator. The sounds of your ammunition punching through that enemy has never sounded so good. In other words...It's great

The gameplay is the best part of the game especially when you're going out of control on your enemies with your rockets and bombs. Sometimes there's a slow down but It doesn't stop the great fun which is what really matters. If you find the gameplay boring then I don't know what is wrong with you. You have to like the gameplay. It just..ROCKS!

Is this a must buy?...YES. You'll have loads of fun with this classic Ps2 Platformer and has great Replay value.

Over all this is one of the best PS2 games out and it is a definit BUY!

    I give it 4.5 OUT of 5

  • BEST GAME EVER!
God,this game is awesome,I pretty much have EVERY game!
The people who made this game have once scored again for like the 4th time.
There is a HUGE amount of weapons, armor, lvls, and planets to choose from!
Star wars had better move over, the next awesome thing is coming!
All the characters, weapons, planets, and starships rival Star Wars!
For you parents out there, you dont have to worry about your kids playing T games, for the game is only shooting robots, and the guns are comicish, but still awesome, and there is NO BLOOD OR GORE in the game either! I remember that time when I froze this guy, shot an Acid Grenade,
used my killer bee launcher, and then took out my Incerator and killed it!
So for you little kids,if I were you,Id ask my parents if i could buy it right now.And for you adults, trust me this is not a little kid game,if you do buy it you will LOVE THIS GAME.
And you people who have never heard of this game,go to you local game store and BUY THIS GAME ASAP,and trust you will love it!

    Hope this review helped,

  • If you like great action with an extensive variety of gameplay styles from different genres, this game is worth playing.
The amalgamation of video game genres is nothing new, but the unique combinations that are the result of this process continue to be known as some as the best and brightest. The original Ratchet & Clank was known for its fusion of platforming and gun-fighting action. This installment increases the genre count by instituting elements from traditional role-playing games (specifically, the ability to "level up"), as well as throwing some flying, racing, and other genres into different minigames (called "maxigames" by the developers, most likely due to the amount of work put into making them stand out). But while these new additions do play an important part in the game, as I will explain in detail later, the game plays most often like a well-made action game with some platforming and puzzle elements added in to even things out.

The first thing that will be brought to your attention when you start the game is the story. Plot details aside, it's only slightly above average for a platformer, and is fairly predictable and cheesy. It is also aims to be humorous as well, though I can't say that it accomplishes this most of the time. The story isn't bad, but it's not going to want to make you keep playing to find out what happens next either. I found the story of the original game to be much better, which is surprising, as it was a much simpler plot overall. I think one thing that influenced this was the characters. In this game, Ratchet is a go-getter, and robot-pal Clank is there for support. But while this duo is good-natured, it's nowhere nearly as interesting as the dense (and somewhat egocentric) Ratchet, and intelligent-yet-naive Clank of the original; where-in these characters actually had evolving personalities throughout the course of the game. Back to the game at hand, the other characters introduced and returning are rather one-dimensional and disposable, save perhaps the thief. When all is accounted for in terms of story and characters, there's nothing to behold, but it manages to suffice well as a framework for the progress of the game.

You will travel from planet to planet over the course of the game, accomplishing certain objectives on each one before moving on. You can return to a planet at any time, and there are a few secrets and extras that can be found on each one. The "level" design of these planets is definitely good, but I found little about it to be truly special, and in addition, all planets seem to follow the same basic pattern of a starting location with approximately three paths available, each of which take you to an item or objective and then drop you off back at the starting location (often via a teleporter). The secrets and puzzle elements are not deviously clever, but are a nicely implemented. And as expected, the platforming is solid and offers swimming, hangliding, rail-grinding, wall-walking, and other interesting variety.

Once you actually get into the fray you can get a feel for the game and test out some of your weapons. You start off with your trusty wrench which can be used as powerful melee weapon (with an added boomerang-like ranged attack), standard issue Blaster gun for battling foes from a distance, and a Gravity Bomb gun for dealing major damage. As you could probably tell from those descriptions, there are preferred weapons for each combat situation, and the list of your arsenal just grows from there. Meanwhile, Ratchet also has a good set of moves to use in battle, such as jumping, ducking, flips, and the ability to strafe. Ratchet's moves also extend to climbing up/hanging off of ledges, performing wall jumps, and other platforming essentials. All of these moves control very smoothly, and the controller is mapped intelligently. On a related note, the menu interfaces are easy to navigate as well. A "quick" weapon select feature (same as in the original, and similar to the one found in Perfect Dark) is a helpful addition for switching weapons, and now pauses the action so you have time to decide on which weapon you wish to use. However, the camera, while not problematic, often requires frequent adjusting for the optimal view, though this can easily be accomplished with the right analog stick.

But back to combat, enemies will come in a variety of shapes and difficulties, with these difficulties greatly increasing as the game proceeds. However, this is balanced out by the ability to "level up". Aside from the standard collection of bolts (this game's currency), killing enemies also gives Nano ("experience") to both Ratchet and his equipped weapon. Most weapons that Ratchet uses can gain experience, turning into a "gold", evolved version of itself when leveled up. This results in the weapon becoming stronger and usually receiving a neat added effect. However, each weapon that can be leveled up can only do so once, as opposed to Ratchet himself, who can level up many, many times. Whenever Ratchet levels up, his maximum hit points will increase by one, therefore increasing the amount of damage he can withstand. When all of your hit points are drained, or you fall into the abyss, you will die. However, there are no lives in this game, and the only penalty you will face is having to start back at the last checkpoint; you will still have everything you obtained up to the point of your death. This helps to prevent the game from becoming overly frustrating. Saving can be accomplished at any time as well, and loading will merely start you back from the beginning of the planet you were last on, with all inventory intact.

New weapons and gadgets can be found by progressing through the game, or they can be purchased from vendors located on each planet. Many of the weapons grant you different methods of dispatching your foes, and they will vary in strength, ammo capacity, speed, price (if purchasable through a vendor), and other factors. In addition, some planets have "black market" vendors, which allow you to exchange hidden "platinum bolts" for certain add-ons (lock-on, acid burn, and shock) for many of your weapons, thus increasing their performance. There are also special armor vendors which allow you to spend bolts on a new outfit to upgrade your defense and give Ratchet a new look. You can even find upgrades to your wrench which make it extremely powerful. Certain weapons are used specifically for puzzle elements, such as the Dynamo, which can create platforms to jump on by shooting special spherical devices, or the Tractor Beam, which can be used to move around designated platforms, objects, and more. There are items such as the Clank jetpack, which can be used for gliding and added jump height, among many other things. All of this will further contribute to the variety of action and platforming you will encounter in this game.

The action is, in my opinion, the most entertaining element of the game, and is by no coincidence, the element most frequently featured. There are a good number of tactics you will have to utilize to survive in the constant flow of battles you will encounter. This includes mastering Ratchet's evasive moves, as well utilizing the correct weapons (and making sure they have sufficient strength). One thing that must always be taken into account is the amount of ammo you have for your weapons, as ammunition can be depleted very quickly when fighting hordes of enemies, and sometimes it's good to have an extra weapon on hand even if it's not very good, just so you have something to use when your primary weapons run dry. It is also good to switch weapons often, as your most used ones will become "gold" rather soon, and then can no longer gain experience. Having a wide variety of gold weapons will be very beneficial later in the game when ammunition becomes tight, but the strength of upgraded weapons is a must. Are far as problems go, you may often find yourself strapped for bolts, there may be some weapons of questionable quality, and the final boss is entirely too easy. But overall, it's nicely balanced, and makes for an interesting and entertaining experience.

There are a large number of minigames featured throughout the game, and while they are actually well done for just being minigames, some can become tedious. The flying, space-battling stages can be downright difficult in some parts, and never really become entertaining. The racing levels fair a lot better, and actually have a slight F-Zero GX feel to them, though they never become nearly as intense. There are a couple different puzzle minigames that are interesting and original, though are too simplistic in the long run. And, none of this is to even mention the things such as the Clank-controlled segments and Giant-Clank battles (both of which are quite good), or other gameplay variations. There also a number of special features to be unlocked once the game has been completed. Without a doubt, R&C:GC has an excellent variety of gameplay.

While it doesn't reach up to the graphical level of a game such as Jak II, R&C:GC is still impressive for a PlayStation 2 game of this time. Characters, enemies, and objects are well-modeled, and feature some good designs. Explosions and other effects aren't quite as impressive, but are visually effective. As for the environments, the textures are simplistic in design, but are always colorful and clean looking. Polygon-counts are plentiful as the entire level is rendered in front of your eyes. Many levels will feature numerous fully-polygonal buildings decorating the stage's backdrop, while a multitude of ships and other vessels fly by in the sky above to create the feel of a living environment. The aesthetics are pleasing and varied, with locales ranging from a rainy prehistoric-style swamp to a metropolis bathed in sunset, to the dark night of snowy tundra. However, these seem to lack the artistic personality that would make these places truly memorable. Despite all this, the game's frame rate always seems to stay pretty high.

Truthfully, my favorite aspect of this game on its own would have to be the music. If I had to make any comparisons, the best I could say is that this soundtrack has a Final Fantasy Tactics meets TimeSplitters 2 feel to it, though it has also its own unique musical style that is unlike anything from either of those games. Regardless, the music in R&C:GC, as composed by David Bergeaud, is simply great. While it fits the game perfectly, it tends to blend in as to not be easily noticeable while playing. Thus, the music seems to be more enjoyable on its own. It's a shame that there is no soundtrack for it, but if you're fortunate enough to find a rip of the game's music online (or plan to make one yourself) it is recommended you go for it. As for the other auditory essentials, they too are nicely done. Sound effects are good as well, and are appropriate for their uses. Finally, the voice acting is great, and the individual voices are nicely suited for their respective characters as they greatly support their personalities.

This mixture of genres, while creating a unique experience, also seems to contribute to the lack of focus on one particular type of gameplay. With the exception of the "leveling up" element, which is well integrated with the action, everything seems pretty separate. The platforming portions rarely intertwine with the base action, as is the same with the puzzle sections and the mass of "maxigames". The end result is that this game is a combination of a variety of genres done well, as opposed to just one or a few genres done excellently. However, I will conclude that if you like great action with an extensive variety of gameplay styles from different genres, this game is worth playing.

  • Go Commando!!
This is the second installment of the, "Ratchet & Clank" series. I've had this game for about 3 months now, but I played it 96.7% of my free time playing it, so you'll find this review to be quite accurate. Let's start with the pros and cons:

    Pros:
-You can use Clank as a Jet/Helicopter pack
    -You can upgrade your ship
-You can upgrade your weapons (Through frequent-use) and Health (By killing more enemies)

    Cons:
-You don't get Clank 'till the 4th level
-Some missions have to be beat to the finish in order to get to your ship (Your ship is the only way to go back to planets you've already been to)
-You can't buy starship mods 'till the 7th level

You may have noticed that I only put 3 of each, this is to only give you a sneek-peek. Here are some other recomendations, their prices (On www.amazon.com), and their ratings (Out of 5 stars):

    1.Ratchet & Clank, by Insomniac Games=$19.99-?(Rating N/A)
2.Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, by Insomniac Games=$19.99-*****

So there you go, my review. It's not as long as my other reviews, but that's because I had written so much on my other reviews that I got to lazy too put very much into this one. So to sum it all up, buy this game. That's all I have to say. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go to www.newgrounds.com to check out some of the flash movies. Again.

  • Great Shooter
This game is a blast! I normally play FPS's like "Resistance : Fall of Man" or CoD 4. I bought this game so I could play a shooter that wouldn't scar my daughter for life if she saw it. It turned out to be one of the most addicting titles that I have ever played on PS2 or PS3. You run & gun your way through levels, puzzles, and obstacle courses. The weapons, situations, and enemies are competely over the top and whole lot of fun. ...more info

  • Definitely the BEST PS2 Game, for people of ALL ages
Not knowing much about this game, I judged it initially by its cover and thought this game may be for younger children. Boy was I wrong. It is the most well-designed, best-executed, and fun to play game that I had the pleasure to experience on PS2. The salesmen at the local Gamestop store were raving about this game, and I was very pleasantly surprised that this game EXCEEDED all of the hype. There are many good games out there that starts out great but ends up being a grim exercise in repetition, which the player just want to end by finishing it, e.g. "Champions of Norrath". This game mixes up the action and pace very nicely, and keeps your mind challenged as well as your fingers. Kudos for Insomniac for a truly outstanding product....more info
  • best in the series
This is definitely the best in the series, it's the most fun, the weapons are way better and diverse, and there are races and ship battles. My favorite weapons are the RYNO II, the Vaporizer, the Killinoids, the Tankbot Glove, the Plasma Storm, and the Tesla Barrier. I love running around with my shield, Clank Zapper, and Killinoids turned on. What a great game!...more info
  • Really Good Game
Ratchet and Clank:GC is one of the most greatest games I've ever played. I love the characters, the planet, soundtrack and storyline. I love the replay value on this too and the guns you get.I recommend this game for anyone....more info

  • Certainly worth the money
Quirky humor tossed in with a steady stream of baddies to beat, burn and otherwise creatively defeat? That's my kind of game! The game presents a nice mix of genres, having racing, platform jumping and puzzle solving at different points of the story line.

The areas flow pretty smoothly, though I ran into a few that seemed darn near impossible to complete. With a good deal of persistence and lot of running around gathering bolts to upgrade the armor those areas get a lot easier to handle. Frame rate drops for no apparent reason on some planets. It was noticable but didn't really take away from game play.

I have the first three in this series. They're all fun and have replay value. You want to make sure you get all of the platinum bolts, upgrade all of the weapons and unlock all of the secrets! ...more info
  • Probably one of the best games ever!
This game is the sequel of Ratchet & Clank, which was one of my favorite games. If you thought this series couldn't get any better after the first one, boy were you wrong. This game has better(and more) weapons, bigger levels, bigger and badder enimies, "Maxi"-games(much like mini-games), and tons more.
Another big addition to this game is the RPG like gameplay, where if you kill enough enimies, you maximum nanotech will increase and you weapons will gain experience and become more powerful, for example, the Blitz Gun which is an awesome short range weapon can be upgrade to the Blitz Cannon with longer range and the ability to take out multiple enimies. Pretty much every weapon in the game is upgradeable except for the weapons from the first game that you can get for free if you have a Ratchet & Clank 1 save file on your memory card. There is also a Ryno II in this game, the upgraded Ryno from the first one. But it cost 1,000,000 bolts. That will take you forever and is it even worth it? You can also buy new armor suits and upgrades for your ship(those are bought by raritanium). All in all, this is the best platfrorm game yet and it will give you hours of enjoyment. Have Fun!...more info
  • Going Commando
Ratchet and Clank 2 "Going Commando", is a sequel to the popular platforming game, Ratchet and Clank 1. "Going Commando" improves upon a number of the flaws in Ratchet and Clank 1, but "Going Commando" still isn't the best of the series.

Like Ratchet and Clank 1, "Going Commando" can still be immensely irritating when trying to get past certain parts. Not AS irritating as it's predecessor, but still irritating nonetheless.

Still, you can't deny that Ratchet and Clank 2 "Going Commando" is fun, because it is. The platforming is very well done, and the game has a lot of replay value. Still I can't help but feel like Ratchet and Clank 2 is in many ways just a continuation of Ratchet and Clank 1.

Anyway, if you enjoyed the original Ratchet and Clank, then you should enjoy "Going Commando". Just don't expect absolutely every flaw from Ratchet and Clank 1 to be fixed....more info
  • Insomniac has outdone themselves
This is a great game. Usually sequels aren't very good, but this is at least fun as the first one. There are more weapons and gadgets, worlds are bigger, there are maxigames, like hoverbike races and gladiator arenas. I can't believe they made this game in a year. (Note: there are a few glitches in this game that can work to your advantage!)...more info

I played the first one, and liked it well enough. But the second game is just wonderful. It's not as difficult as the first game was, but it was a lot funnier. I love this series, and I can't wait to try my hand at the third one! I think it's more fun to play the game over and over after you beat it, so you can complete all of the little side tasks. It's a wonderful game! I'd give it six stars out of five....more info
  • Not in the soul of Ratchet and Clank, but still a wonderful experience
I loved Ratchet and Clank, the first game, with its lush and de-
structive worlds to the exotic and amazing sound score to the t-
op notch voice actors. Ratchet and Clank was one of most amazing
games of 2002 but a year later, here come the awaited sequel to
butt-kicking series. Now not exactly the best game in the five-
games-out series, (Ratchet and Clank, Ratchet and Clank 2: Going
Commando, Ratchet and Clank 3: Up your Arsenal, Ratchet: Deadlo-
cked, Ratchet and Clank: Going Mobile), it provides the most we-
apons the game in the now-quintet of the series. In other words,
its the game with the most weapons, (36 things your arsenal). I
like the other games, I loved Ratchet: Deadlocked. From the safe
and restful DreadZone station, (where Big Al of Big Al's Robosh-
ack and Clank stay and "coordinate"), to the kick-butt planets
    in the Shadow Sector.
Overall the game has more pros than cons

    Pros:

    -Ratchet's got better guns
-The cartoony graphics are even more lush
-Angela Cross is a great girlfriend to Ratchet
    -The sounds are still good
    -Great gameplay
    -Easy controls
    -A darker Plot
    -Still has it's witty side
-Great ship battles and upgrades and fun ho

    Cons:

    -Outrageous difficulty
-Not as much Ha-Ha's as in Ratchet and Clank
-Captain Qwark doesn't appear till the very last of the game!
-Enemies and Bosses are now so darn stubborn and hard

Now, listen Ratchet and Clank 2: Going Commando is an awesome g-
ame but listen, if it wasn't as difficult and so STUBBORN I wou-
ld gave it a 5. And it's rating I give is 4.7 out of 5.0 which
    means it's awesome not a rental, a hurry-up-and-buy game, it's a
20 dollar game and you don't have nuthin' to lose, except your
temper but go ahead buy the quintet ahead, three out of five of
the games are 20 dollars, here's the list:

    Ratchet and Clank
Ratchet and Clank 2: Going Commando
Ratchet and Clank 3: Up your Arsenal
    Ratchet: Deadlocked
Ratchet and Clank: Going Mobile, (only for cell phones),

    In conclusion: 8/10
Look out because, next year, two Ratchet and Clank games are co-
    ming out

I hope my review was helpful!...more info
  • Good, not as good as the first one
Okay, I know I gave the game 5 stars, it is good, but not as good as the first one. The plot is a little more goofy, and can kind of get confusing (example: first, your trying to get back an experiment, then you have to destroy it). But the game play is awesome! There are more enemies, more weapons and gadgets. The worlds are bigger, more detailed, and some have mini-games. Ratchet also gets a commando suit that can be upgraded about five or six times! And if you have a saved R&C1 game on your memory card, you can get some old weapons.... FOR FREE!!!! It also features a new RYNO, the RYNO2, which can kill any enemy with one shot! Mini-games include: Space bike races, Gladiator arena, Space battles (in a space ship), and Circle Worlds.
Yes this game is very good, but when given a choice, I say go for R&C1!...more info

  • The Best Game I Have for PS2
Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando is a great game. The guns are really cool, and they get cooler as you upgrade them. It has alot of RPG in it as you can choose which mission to complete first or which planet to visit first, ect. There are some puzzles through out the game but most all of them are easy, as it is not the type of game where you get stuck on one puzzle for days. It has a ton of action, and the controls are very good. The only part I can complain about is how on some planets the enemies are not diverse at all and some saving problems I experienced. Other than that, it is a great game. I would recommend this game to anyone who likes action games....more info
  • and I really hate platformers!
I really, really, really hate platformer games. Played Jak 2 until I could go on no longer, played Kingdom Hearts until the lousy camera would not allow me to see what I was supposed to be jumping towards, and a few others.

Those were mere rentals, just to make me see if I wanted to buy them. The only reason I tried the two I listed was because of Ratchet and Clank (going commando). Another platformer game, I knew going in, and I was surprised.

Very surprised. Well, here is my summation:
Pros: Fun, funny, with a good plot, replayable as the weapons do get better with use (on my third time through so far), and a good save game system.
Cons: Lack of the ability to want to sleep, eat, actually leave your chair......more info

  • No sheep were hurt in the making of this game...
few developers are able to sqeeze out game sequels in a year, especially if the plan is for the game to be good.Insomniac Games somehow manages to do this and I couldnt be happier. Insomniac has started a wonderfull series about a furry lombax named Ratchet and his metallic sidekick clank, cruising through the galaxy, visiting many planets, kicking @$$ and leaving a trail of distrucion. GC picks up where the first game left off, Ratchet and Clank are celebrities after defeating Chairman Drek, but things have slowed down. they are still pretty busy, but in a more "domestic" sense, wich doesnt do much good for their interview. At that moment they are teleported to Abercrobie Fizwidget's office. They are briefed on a new mission though the duo dont seem to understand the man (he has a penchant for making up words). you are to reclaim this "protopet" which was stolen. this is a trademark of Insomniac, its hilarious story, you WILL laugh--HARD.anyway first of all the second installment in the series takes everything that was good in the first, and makes it much, much, much, better.
Take the gameplay for example, it was fun, but it has been re-vamped into a furry frenzy of utter delight. The signature weapons do make a comeback, and the guns and gadgets are far more fun and zany (think sheepinator and the elastic bomb aka bouncer).there is also the addition to strafe, which is a godsend, wich is made painless through the game's auto-target system.there are several guns that you will learn to love, and you can also purchase games from the original game, too bad that they are rather weak. Even better is the game's rpg twist--you are able to upgrade your weapons and armor into more powerful, more destructive versions and you can upgrade you life up to 80 units!Gameplay hardly ever slows, you are often pitted against several opponents, that in the end formulating strategies is a must and fun in itself. You will no doubt be hard pressed to come up with excuses to play longer (c'mon mom, you promised i could play longer!!!), in case you do somehow mysteriously get bored (which is just about impossible) you can race or battle gladiors in the games several "maxigame" arenas for bolts, or return to passed planets to upgrade your weapns.
The game also boasts beautifull graphics and richly detailed environments, so much so, that Ratchet and Clank:gc has prettier visuals than more recent games, and GC isnt all too new.from the terrifiengly beautifull blood-red clouds wafting in the sky to the fantastic framerate ( planet damosel has you fighting up tp 30 protopets onscreen) this is a wonderfull looking game that you can admire (if you want) with its superb camera. you will never have a real problem with it, only on a few occasions, but manually controlling the camera is no labor, and the camera will stay in its place.
the game even has an excellent musical score. there is a wonderfull variety that suit the planet and situation perfectly. it is a blend of tecno beats paired with orchestral tunes, and i doubt you heard a song more than twice. Add in buttery-smooth control and it is no wonder that Ratchet and Clank is so well loved by critics and gamers.
All in all this game hes few flaws and it was only the treasure hunting on 2 levels (thankfully finding all the treasure is optional) but is in so many ways the epitome that games should all be: with wonderfull gameplay, insane mission variety, great graphics,a superb and funny story, and so much, much more, I see no reason as to why you shouldnt own this already....more info

  • This is great!
There are only a few sequels that end up good (i.e. Riven, the sequel to Myst). This happens to be one of them (not that I've played the first one).
It isn't educational at all, but it's not bad. The only offense I've taken is that you keep killing Thugs every so often, who are REPTILIAN (possibly evidencing reptile prejudice)! At least they're given a little respect in the multiplayer mode of the third in the series (I'm referring to the ability to play as them).
The humor is also really funny. You'd think, however, that the game would be a serious Jak 2-like game, what with Ratchet's glares on his photo-like pictures.
The music is also excellent. Sadly, David Bergeaud didn't release a soundtrack I'm aware of.
To sum it all up, I wouldn't highly recommend it for a gamer who likes reptiles, but it's still good....more info

  • (A lot) Better than the first
Yessir, Ratchet and Clank return, hotter than ever. This game featurs 25 destructive super weapons, including R.Y.N.O 2, Mini Nuke, Zodiac, Lancer and 5 other Gadgetron weapons from the first game. The storyline is a little more complicated, featuring that some characters are not the ones thought first when you see them. The Theif will have you confused when you see who he really is. Actually: Who ''She'' is. there are great Maxi-games in this game, which are just big minigames, including: Hoverbike races, Gladiator Arena Battles, Electrolizer Targets and more. It' s safe to say that this game is a lot better then the first. Many of you had maybe think that Ratchet and Jak are rivals in a gaming war, but the credit list says: Special Thanks to: All of the Naughty Dogs. But who cares. This game is really fun. It takes a lot of time to finish it. an this game really should be whith an E rating instead of T. I highly recommend it. BUY IT NOW!!!!!...more info
