This griddle's extra-large cooking surface makes enough food for the entire family: Control Master(R) heat control maintains proper cooking temperature automatically: Premium nonstick surface for stick-free cooking and easy cleaning: Slide-out drip tray catches cooking drippings for healthier cooking: Griddle is completely immersible with the heat control removed: 1-year limited warranty
Generously proportioned with a 22-by-11-inch cooking surface, this indoor electric griddle cooks enough pancakes or hamburgers for a large crowd. Similar to Presto's Model 07038 22-Inch Electric Griddle, this model features a smoother, more professional grade nonstick finish. Because food doesn't stick easily, the griddle requires very little grease, thereby producing healthier food. For fattier meats like bacon, a groove along one side channels drips through a small hole into a sturdy plastic container that slides completely out for cleaning. When the griddle's heat control is removed, the unit is fully submersible in warm, soapy water. The 1500-watt griddle plugs into any 120-volt outlet and automatically maintains any temperature setting from warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Made of heavy duty cast aluminum that resists warping and distributes heat evenly, the griddle overall measures 27 by 13 by 4-1/2 inches and is covered by a two-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri
22-inch heavy cast aluminum skillet heats evenly and resists warping
Premium professional quality nonstick finish inside and out
Smooth cooking surface features a grease groove and removable drip pan
Fully submersible in soapy water when heat control is removed
Phenolic handles and legs; 27 by 13 by 4-1/2 inches
Elegant Simplicity I really like this design. It has a slight raised lip running around the outside edge which contains any batters, grease, or other liquids which might run over the edge and create a mess; the grease drain is only on the front edge and is treated with the same sturdy non-stick coating as the rest of the surface, making for easy clean up. Indeed, the lack of plastic attachments make cleanup easy, and I really like the simple design, a very large cooking surface, two plastic handles and a removable plastic grease catch.
The only thing keeping me from rating it a five out of five is that I would have liked to see a thicker aluminum used, the base is only about 2mm thick, though I've been unable to find anything thicker...more info
Darn good little cooker for the money I bought this to replace my All-Clad LTD Nonstick Grande Griddle, a workhorse for weekend breakfast cooking, but a little pricey to chuck every two years. After all, these nonstick cooking utensils don't last forever, and the more use they get, the sooner they need replacing.
Looking for an affordable alternative, I settled upon this griddle after reading the other reviews. I find it to be just the thing for cooking bacon, eggs, and pancakes for a Sunday morning breakfast. The construction quality is certainly adequate, the grille is quite large, and it heats up quickly. The heating is a little uneven from one side to the other, but you can use this to your advantage. It's not that bad, really.
All in all, I am glad I purchased this after having it for a couple of months, and when it breaks, I'll probably buy another one!
good purchase! +not a lot of bulky plastic to waste space
+removable 'grease trap'
+good clearance (to keep a plate full of pancakes warm underneath)
+easily fit 6 large pancakes at a time
+no need for any non-stick spray/oil/butter
+easy assembly (just screw on the legs)
I guess not all griddles are the same... Normally, I hate to give bad reviews since I think most products are disproportionately represented with negative reviews already. On this product, however, I feel that the exact opposite is true.
This review ran longer than I meant it to, so here is a quick overview if you don't want to read it all:
1) Uneven cooking surface (horrible for things like pancakes)
2) Doesn't heat evenly (it is very hot around the outside and cool in the middle)
3) Heats up slowly (probably to make sure the middle is at least a little hot)
4) This is specific to mine, but the grease tray broke in half on the third use when I wasn't even touching it.
Now, on to the details...
We got this griddle about 2 weeks ago to replace the unit that we've used for the last 15 years (although we've really only been using it heavily for the last couple of years). The teflon was starting to come off and the heating unit was starting to go out. When ordering the new griddle, I kind of thought they were probably all the same so I picked one that was reasonably priced and that had reasonably good reviews.
The first thing we did with the new griddle was to warm tortillas - I have to say that went perfectly well, so if that's what you want it for this is probably a great buy. After that, things went downhill pretty quickly.
The next morning, I broke out the new griddle to make some pancakes. I noticed that it seemed to take a long time to warm up, but that isn't really that big of a deal to me so I just waited patiently. When I started pooring the pancake mix onto the griddle surface, it immediately became obvious that it wasn't completely flat. The pancakes all ran together into the center of the griddle and came out as long oval shapes that I had to cut apart with the spatula - that was the first really irritating problem. The second problem is that it cooks very unevenly and the stuff in the middle hardly cooks at all while everything around the edges burns. I've never had pancakes that turned out worse.
As one last example of the uneven heating, I also made grilled ham & cheese sandwiches for the kids on this. Each sandwich had a burned line running exactly where it had been sitting over the heating element - it was almost funny, the rest of the sandwich was just fine.
Anyway, we ordered another brand of griddle to replace this one, but I had already thrown the box away so I can't return it - oh well... The new one hasn't come yet, but I'm a bit nervous now that I know that not all griddles are the same.
Edit: I just thought I'd throw in here that the replacement griddle I ended up getting was the Broil King USG-10G. After several days of usage, that griddle works great if you are looking for another alternative to this one....more info
Uneven heating I purchased this item as a result of the positive ratings on this product. I was very disappointed in the quality in that the cooking surface is very thin and the heating element is a single loop that is attached to the bottom of the surface. This causes the heat to be concentrated primarily in the area of the heating element which results in extremely uneven heating on the cooking surface. I allowed the unit to preheat and when I cooked pancakes there was a dark streak in the area where they were over the heating element. I would not recommend this product. ...more info
Just what I needed Not a lot to add to what everyone else has written . . . Very large surface, yet heats evenly across the whole surface. Gets to necessary temperature very quickly. I have used it for several large breakfasts and have no complaints. Sausages, pancakes, bacon, eggs, hash browns, and similar brunch fare all cooked to perfection on this griddle. The only practical problem is with cooking scrambled eggs -- the device is made to drain to front, so you need to tilt the device back if you want to cook scrambled eggs on it. Overall, I'm very pleased with its performance and have no regrets with this purchase.
March 2009 Update: I've now been using this griddle for nearly 18 months and I'm still pleased with it. It has been used one or two times every week for all that time. I noticed that some reviewers find the heat uneven -- maybe they had defective units because mine is still very even across the whole surface (all my pancakes cook perfectly regardless of where they are placed on the griddle). Using this unit is so simple, we started using it for more than Sunday brunch -- "grilling" fish, chicken, pork, etc., is now done on this one or two times a week during the cooler months or when it is raining (that's when I have no desire to go outside and use my Weber grill). Thanks to a little accident (left a piece of food on too long) some of the nonstick surface is no longer releasing food as easily as it did new -- all that means is that I have to use more oil or butter to make sure food does not stick. Given the price, I never expected this nonstick griddle to last forever (all nonstick coatings eventually fail). If I can get another two years of service out of this guy I will be happy and will replace with an identical griddle....more info
Good griddles. I bought two of these for use at our Church for when the kitchen stove and griddle are being utilized to cook the breakfast meats and we need additional griddle space to cook the pancakes. The event we used these for, required us to cook about 250 pancakes within a 45 minute time period. The griddles worked great. We also used the pancake rings. There were 10 pancakes left when it was all over, so I would rate them as a success!...more info
Presto Jumbo Electric Griddle I bought this griddle for my daughter for Christmas. She absolutely
loves it. She told me that it cooks bacon so quick, she couldn't
believe it. She loves the size of it too. ...more info
electric griddle works great, used it at Church Sunrise service cooking Breakfast. have a smaller one for 20 years and still works, maybe this one will last as long or longer. ...more info
Great size The size of this griddle is perfect for fixing large breakfasts for your family. The surface heats relatively evenly but not perfectly. Still a good product at this price....more info
Have had mine for 6 years! I have owned this griddle for 6 years and it is still working just as good as the day I got it. The finish is finally starting to come off in spots and I am going to need a new one, but this one did its job well!...more info
Very Good It's very useful when you want to cook a lot, very quickly.
But it's really big, i mean, big. You can cook steaks for 6 people in a couple of minutes, very ligt (you don't need cooking oil or something like that)...more info
I LOVE It! Nice size, easy to clean & great design! I have considered getting an electric griddle for years & I finally decided it was time. My family loves an occasional big breakfast so this is a great way to make them without a lot of pans. I can cook hashbrowns, sausage & pancakes on the same pan, all at the same time! It also make excellent french toast. A GREAT time saver! The non-stick coating is nice, not teflon (YUCK) but another textured type of non-stick instead. The temperature adjustment is easy & seems to be accurate.
I would recommend this to anyone who is tired of cleaning 4 pans out with every breakfast! But make sure you have the space to store it as it is large!...more info
Nice Light Griddle I received this as a Christmas gift. It is very light weight and I love that. I've cooked steaks, ham slices, pancakes, hamburgers, pork chops, eggs, french toast, grilled cheese, etc. on this griddle. Everything has turned out wonderfully. Little, if any, oil is required and the clean-up has been a breeze. I love this thing!...more info
The best pancake griddle ever This Presto griddle is awesome. It holds a constant temperature of 325 or 350 degrees without any problem whatsoever. If you like perfectly cooked pancakes without any burns, then this is the product for you. I tried one at a friend's house and had to get one of my own.
It is better than my Wolf gas range for delicate pancakes. I highly recommend it!...more info
Not so hot Not so big or very handy. Does NOT tilt to drain and a pain to clean. Overall not recommended, should have kept old grill....more info
Husband loves griddle This was a gift for my husband for his birthday. He loves to cook and I now get week-end breakfast straight from this griddle. It works great!...more info
An okay griddle I got this griddle for christmas a while ago and its nice but the legs and handles brake easily if your not careful. I am looking for a new one but I am wanting one with thicker legs and handles. But I really do like this griddle just thought people would like to know about the legs and handles....more info
Wonderful Griddle This is the best I have found so far. The food won't stick. The eggs will slide with a small push if you want. It is real easy to clean too. Buy it, it is great!...more info
satisfied I just bought this Griddle today. The first thing I made with it were hamburgers. Immediately the hamburger fat started rolling down into the drain and accumulated in the little catch. I have never had healthier hamburgers. It helps to have a well vented kitchen though because mine isn't. I have heard of doctors recomending this grills to patients who need to eat healtheir for the reason stated above. I kinda wish I bought an electric griddle like this sooner. The standard griddles that go on the stove top don't have a drain. Plus the electric griddles have the drain and they heat evenly -- unless of course if you buy a cheapo no-name brand electric griddle.
I didn't give the griddle a 5 star because I feel that the cord/temperature control should have been on the front so it's easier to see it. Some people might want it on the side though because it keeps the electric cord out of your way. Not only that but the manufacturer could have made the griddle thicker. It doesn't cost that much more it's just the damn bean counters that cut back everywhere to make the products as cheap as possible -- as much as they can get away with.
Another major issue is common with MOST but not all electric appliances like this one that use electric-resistance heating to work. Once again the bean counters made things cheap again and so this particular electric griddle and many others have a small cord with no 3rd prong on the plug for the "ground". Having an appliance like this one that uses 1,500 Watts becomes many times safer if it is grounded using a cord with 3 wires and a 3 prong plug for the ground. But in order for the manufacturers to make more money and by keeping prices down they went the cheap route and utilized the 2 prong plugs with paper thin cords that will melt if you leave the unit runing too long. They cords can melt and start off an electrical fire quicker than you can say "live tomorrow".
Electric space heaters at 1,500 watts have had that problem for decades and it's only NOW that manufactures are being required by law to use the safer grounded cord that are both thicker and with a 3 prong "grounded" plug. So if you are going to buy a space heater NEW make sure it has a "Ground", that way you know you have the updated - safer version which is about 1,000 times less likely to catch fire and burn your house down.
I say it's about time the LAW steped in to protect consumers against greedy corporations for the electric space heaters case.
Now when will the law step in and mandate safer cords for electric griddles sold in the US of A?
So PRESTO, sell me an electric griddle with a safe "grounded" cord and I'll rate it a 5 star!!!
After that happens, the next thing you can do is make your products in the USA so the unemployed will have jobs once again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I try my hardest not to buy your products made in China, Singapore, Thiland, Tiawan, Bangladesh, India, Mexico, and Haiti but sometimes there is nothing I can find made in the good o' USA for a certain type of product like an electric griddle....more info
My new favorite kitchen tool When I deided to get an electric griddle I researched several models before I settled on this one. It was a great choice! The griddle is very easy to use with an even heating surface that makes it easy to cook several things at once. Once you are done using it and remove the cord, the entire thing is submergible for washing. My favorite feature of this griddle is the grease drawer that is completely removable for cleaning. It was a great buy and I would recommend it to anyone!...more info
LOVE IT ...... I can cook hashbrowns, eggs, bacon, french toast, & pancakes on the same pan. cooking weekend breakfast just became easier ..this is a great .. We all love to use this to cook on.
Striped Pancakes This griddle was a nice size for us, and the nonstick surface was wonderful, but it produced "striped pancakes" (a dark stripe down the pancake where the heating element would have created an uneven heat). This was surprising to me after all the other reviews praised the griddle's even heat and the resulting perfect pancakes. Perhaps we were doing something wrong? I tried cooking less pancakes at a time, and I made sure that is was completely heated before starting to cook the batter. Our previous griddle was a Toastmaster, and we didn't have problems with striped pancakes. (We were only replacing the old one due to loss of teflon that has occurred over 10 years of use). I am unable to add any insight regarding the Presto's ability to cook other things besides pancakes. We returned it because pancakes were primarily why we purchased it....more info
GREAT GRIDDLE, GREAT PRICE, EASY SUNDAY B-FAST I've had this griddle for awhile and I can't believe how much better life is now that I actually use it.
It's a great size, you can do sausages, 4 pancakes or French toast, and then quickly do eggs afterward because it doesn't stick during cooking. It heats fast and the heat is even all across the surface.
It's totally eliminated my 3 pans I used to use for weekend breakfasts. It's true that it's REALLY non-stick and you barely need any oil-- in fact I only add it when I want the taste and oil spray works great.
Cleaning is unbelievably easy. You just wipe down the top, dry it with a paper towel, and then put it back up in the cupboard. It's SO MUCH easier than pans and dishwashers and you can be so much healthier about oil and butter. Thanks to the reviewers who turned me on to this, and to this company for actually making a really great product which fits their own description! Hope others like it too!...more info
griddle i purchased the presto griddle as a xmas gift for my son-in-law he enjoys fixing breakfast for his family on weekends and needed something that was big enough to cook more than one pancake at a time or cook eggs and bacon....more info
Purchased as a gift. I got this for a family member as a gift, who reports it is much nicer than his older griddle and heats up more evenly.
Nice wide surface area allows for cooking multiple items at the same time, and easy clean up....more info
Best Electric Griddle I've Found! I started to buy another similar popular brand of electric griddle after a friend made us breakfast on his. Unfortunately the reviews for it were all bad!? So I decided on the Presto, which had good reviews, was a BIG griddle, and the price was in my range. For my first electric griddle, I am beyond pleased. It heats up fast & evenly...is light in weight but has a huge cooking area. Clean-up is way easy. If I have one complaint, it's the size of the grease catcher, which is a tad small, but then again I cooked 2 pounds of large hickory smoked bacon strips on it, so I had to empty the catch a few times during cooking. This is the griddle to buy....more info
Wonderful griddle This is a great griddle. It is large enough to place eight pancakes on it at once, a nice change from one at a time on my previous griddle. It heats up fast so no waiting around to start cooking. Highly recommend!...more info
Big and flimsy I was lured by the word "professional," but I was disappointed at the weak construction of the plastic handle/base construction: it doesn't look sturdy. Everything works properly, i.e., pancakes are just fine, and nothing's broken yet, but I feel the need to be more careful moving it around than I would like....more info
Jumbo!! We bought this as a replacement for a Black and Decker that cooked the heating control contacts. Unfortunately, the B&D appears to be the only low-priced griddle with a warming tray.
This truely is a jumbo griddle - it will not fit inside any of our cupboards, so we are still trying to figure out where to put it. Other than that, it's very nice, so far....more info
Best griddle you will ever own! In 1970 I was given a set of Presto waterless cookware along with a pancake griddle. At that time they didn't have non-stick griddles. Through the years the handles broke, but the grill fit over my stainless steel sink, so no problem. In 1999 I figured it was time to replace it with a new one. I really loved it because it never stuck and once again I could rely on it. In 2002 I started a Pancake Breakfast to raise money for our club. It started with my Presto grill and soon I added a second one. Over the next 18 months we raised $3,500 with those two grills, serving pancakes, french toast, bacon, etc. My 3rd grill is still going strong and puts out our Sunday breakfasts at home. It is so refreshing to be able to depend upon the quality of an appliance these days. Thank you Presto!...more info
Excellent Griddle My wife absolutely loves this griddle, she uses it nearly as much as a regular stove.
Every breakfast is cooked on it anymore.
Highly recommend it....more info
Great griddle! We recently purchased this griddle when we got a gift card for Christmas. I feel that it was money well spent. I have used it to make cheeseburgers twice, and pancakes and sausage once. I did notice the striping on the pancakes, but I thought they cooked very quickly and tasted great! To me, the striping is purely cosmetic! It was nice to be able to cook a lot of food at once for my hungry little kids! I also thought that the clean-up was really easy! Amazon had the best price, plus they had free shipping! A great value! Buy this griddle!!!...more info
Not so big The shipping was fast but it's not jumbo by any means. I expected a bigger griddle with more space. Other then that it's built very well and my mom loves it....more info
Great Griddle I love this griddle. It has a large surface which nothing seems to stick to. I have used it several times in the month I have owned it. The only complaint I have is with the drip pan. It broke when dropped in my sink. Other than that, I am well satisfied and would recommend this grill to others....more info
