  • Great Product All-Around
I've been using this protein mix (along with ON's Natural Pro-Complex & Natural Casein) for nearly a month now and I have nothing but good things to say about all of these products. The taste is delicious for something naturally sweetened (in one review a customer points out that stevia is an artificial sweetener and in the same review states that it comes from a leaf thus proving that it is not artificial). I personally don't think it mixes well with a spoon but shaking it in a lidded container will break up any powder that clumped together. Finally, the price on Amazon is the lowest one I've found, especially compared to in-store prices. Overall, I'd recommend this powder, along with the rest of ON's Natural product line, to anyone with any interest in any level of fitness, nutrition, or bodybuilding. ...more info
  • A great food addition for busy people.
This a great protein supplement for busy people. I use this to mix with frozen fruit and water to make a great breakfast drink. I may put a spoonful on cereal and milk.
It is meant to supplement your meals rather than be a meal substitute. It cuts hunger....more info
  • GREAT!
I have tried several different types of Whey Isolate. As far as taste, this is clearly the best. Very clean, w/o that chalky after-taste. Best of all, it's "natural". If you're gonna be healthy, workout, eat right and take the appropriate supplements to maximize your training . . . then you should be careful about what you put into your body. There are very few protein supplements on the market that are void of artificial ingredients. This one taste's great, mixes well in my blender bottle, and is better for you. Case closed!...more info
  • Probably one of the best proteins for you, but tastes ehh..
Guess I'm trading off the taste to go with a natural sweetener, because this stuff is really boring tasting. Makes drinking protein a chore. Other brands like Met-Rx Size Up actually tasted good enough to make me want to drink it throughout the day. ...more info

This product is excellent because it has no artificial sweeteners and still tastes great....more info
  • Good Stuff
This whey protein is 100% natural and that is always a plus. When I first tried it, I tried it with a cup of warm water and lets just say that was a sacrifice to drink it all. Then I tried it with a cold cup of water and that was slightly better but I had to really force myself to drink it since it does not taste that good.

I then tried it with Silk Vanilla Soy Milk and that was the best thing I ever did. A cup of Silk Vanilla Soy Milk with a scoop of this tastes so good I have to hold myself back from having more everytime I finish.

Beware that this protein is rather thick in a cup if you use a full scoop so you have to stir a lot and sometimes chunks still remain. I usually do 3/4 of a scoop and it tends to dissolve okay in a cup of soy milk around 5 ounces.

Other than that, it appears to do its job. I work out, take creatine to replenish my muscles and I take this right after my dose of creatine and after 3 weeks I have noticed muscle gain. Of course, it does not mean this gave me muscle gains, but it sure helps to feed your muscles after an intense workout....more info
  • Great tasting and natural
My doctor recommended using protein powder since I eat little meat and am very active - distance running and cycling. I chose this one because it is natural and I heard good things about the taste. They were right about the taste - I prefer the vanilla. I usually mix it with nonfat milk and just shake it up. Excellent....more info
  • Caution - fake sugar
This review is for Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Natural Whey, Chocolate, 5.13-Pound Tub. Once I received the product, I was very disappointed to find Stevia in the ingredients listed on the label. Stevia is an artificial sweetener (extracted from a plant). Given the description of the product, "All Natural: No artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners.", this surprised me, especially since it is not listed in the ingredients list on the product page.

Stevia gives me a stomach ache.

Otherwise the taste is so-so, and I find that it must be mixed with a sweetened beverage to be palatable (e.g. vanilla soy milk or a frappuccino). Once mixed with a sweetened beverage the stomach-ache-iness effect is also reduced.

  • Fantastic Product and Received on Time
This is one of the best all-around Whey protein products you can buy. Not only does it come with enough of the essential amino-acids it also eliminates artificial flavors and sugars! Best deal through Amazon like always!...more info
  • Good source of protein
This is one of the better protein powders I've taken. It packs 24 grams of protein per serving. That's very helpful when you have to take 200+ grams of protein a day. It mixes fairly easily with vigorous shaking. Some lumps though. All in all, well rounded supplement that's economic....more info
  • taste great
Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Natural Whey, Chocolate, 5.13-Pound Tub

This was my first purchase of a Whey Protein mix. I did some research prior to it and went with this one based on previous user reviews. This one taste great, but I don't really have another point of reference. Another PLUS is that it is natural (no artifical sweetners), which is very important to me and something we all should consider.

I have lost over 100 lbs. over the last year and started recently to hit the weights harder. With the increased weight training, I wanted to add more protein to my diet or at least be able to sustain an appropriate level. I don't eat a significant amount of meat products so I needed to supplement my protein intake somehow.

I have noticed a lot of lean muscle development. I can only ASSUME that the WHEY protein is helping. I try to eat a balanced diet and this product with its 24 grams of protein per serving is definitely helping me meet my protein consumption on a daily basis... and as I mentioned, it taste great (I blend it with ice and it comes out nice and thick).

    Cheers....more info
  • Gold Standard 100% natural Whey protien - natural vanilla
    Pros:
Nutrition - 24g protien, 5.5g BCAAs, 4g glutamine precusors, 130 cal, 5g carbs, 3g sugar, 1.5g fat, .5 saturated fat per serving; compares well to the non-natural artificially sweetened gold standard whey which has 2g less carbs and maybe 20 less calories per serving, but, hey what's a small nutritional difference to get all natural ingredients.
Ingredients - all natural, no artificial sweetners
Taste (natural Vanilla) - not overly sweet which I consider a bonus because I've tried other protient powders which taste way too sweet though it is a bit bland; a good base flavor to work with, just add any ingredients to create a desired flavor -chocolate syrup, nuts, fruit, coffee all work well
Good value - 5.15lb tub for about $40
Shakes - mixes well in a blender, no stupid lumps, may get some lumps by shaking or hand mixing but not as many as other whey powders I've used

    Cons:
Taste (natural vanilla) : a bit bland and maybe a bit bitter probably due to natural sweetner, this can be a pro or con depending on what you're looking for but again cut it with any ingredient you want to create any flavor and you're in business
Price : a few bucks more expensive than the non-natural stuff

Overall, a great source of lean protien, one of the better whey powders I've tried and a good value. ...more info
  • Good taste depending on how you mix it
Good with water. Better with milk. Great with instant oatmeal. Doesn't work in yogurt. I liked the taste of the same brand Vanilla Ice Cream flavor better, but this one's not too bad....more info
  • Chocolate Vs. Double Chocolate
So - you've been researching the 7000 options for Protein Powder and you've landed on Optimum Nutrition's Gold Standard. Good choice. The quality of the product, the price and the reputation are all great. Now you need to decide on a flavor. After all - if it doesn't taste good - it doesn't matter how much it costs. You're a chocolate guy/girl and think that's the safest bet. If you're getting 5 pounds of something, you need to minimize your risk! But do you go with Chocolate or Double Chocolate? I had the same question, so a co-worker and I each got one and did a taste test. Here is what we found:

Chocolate: very tasty! When mixed with skim milk it was pretty close in taste to chocolate milk. No aftertaste and generally one the better powders I've tried.

Double Chocolate: also very tasty! Smells way more chocolately in the jar and after mixing with skim milk. This one tasted more like a liquid brownie than chocolate milk. There definitely was a "Double" chocolate kick. No aftertaste and perhaps my favorite powder to date.

The "winner"? Both really. My co-worker was very happy with her choice of Chocolate because it wasn't overwhelming and I was very happy with the Double because it was more of a "treat" with a bigger chocolate flavor.

So decide which one sounds like you - and buy with confidence. At 120 calories for 24g of protein, you'll be getting what you need with a great taste....more info
  • mmmm no more grocery shopping
I'm not a pro athlete or bodybuilder but I do put emphasis on staying physically active and in good shape. After researching whey protein supplements I bought this product because it had no added artificail sweetners other than fructose. The sugar is minimal and the amount of protein you get is optimal.

The taste? I drink it with water and it is very tolerable, I would even say I enjoy it. If you mix it with milk, I haven't yet, but it would probably taste very good, like chocolate but not so sweet as chocolate milk mixes, which are full of sugar. I highly recommend this product, at $30 what I payed its an excellent value. I consider this my main source of protein instead of the frozen chicken breasts I used to buy. But don't forget your vegetables. ...more info
  • Straightforward
I appreciate that this product doesn't have any weird ingredients in it, but I'm sure it's still made from cows that were given various hormones. Thus the marketing is a bit misleading.

I bought the chocolate flavor, whose taste is unbearable without some sort of additive. I use Nesquik, but sugar works fine. Compared to other powders I've tried, though, it's not a particularly poor-tasting product. In fact, with the Nesquik it's one of the tastier whey proteins. The powder mixes pretty decently, as well....more info
  • Tastes Great!
This protein is affordable, and it tastes like unsweetened chocolate milk. Not creamy or chunky. Seriously better than any protein shake ive ever had! (Try it in hot water, delutes instantly, and tastes like hot cocoa.)...more info
  • Great Product
My last purchase of this brand of whey protein was the non-natural vanilla. I found it to be far too sweet and, well, sort of synthetic tasting, in an unwholesome way. The taste of the natural chocolate is far superior. It tastes more or less like chocolate milk (make sure to mix this with milk, btw. I haven't tried the chocolate kind with water, but it was a struggle to finish the vanilla when mixed with water), except slightly less sweet.

Taste aside, does this product help to build muscle? This is hard to say, as I've only been working out for about six weeks. However, about a month ago I purchased two twenty pound dumbbells. At first, I could barely do four reps of bicep curls. The other night, I was able to break twelve reps. Now, is this because I've been using this product? It's hard to say, but I'm sure it has helped....more info
  • 100% Natural Whey Protein - Optimum Nutrition
I've consumed Optimum Nutrition products for years now. Since I take one or 2 servings daily of the 100% Whey Protein, it's important for me to consume a product with the least amount of artificial ingredients, and this one fits the bill....more info
  • Great stuff!
This a great tasting protein powder. I like the both the chocolate and vanilla flavors. The natural doesn't have nutrasweet or other artificial sweeteners in it, but it's still tasty and low carb. 25g protein per scoop. I like 10 oz of water/ice mix in a blender with two scoops, which makes for a cold, creamy shake-like drink. Really helps me stay on the low-carb track!...more info
  • Tastes great!
Great chocolate flavor with no artificial ingredients and no sugar. Give it a good shake it in a mixer bottle and you ready to go - completely dissolves in water and tastes great unlike some other powders I've tried before. Resulting protein shake isn't overly sweet and should be quite low in GI response. Excellent value....more info
  • Tried all the flavors of GS Natural Whey
Both my wife and I had decided fairly recently to start using protein powder after our workouts. We started with some unnamed protein powder, but my wife started getting migraine headaches. After looking at the ingredients, we decided it was possible that they were due to the artificial sweeteners. I looked around online, and had a heck of a time trying to find a whey protein which did not use artificial sweeteners. Which is where this protein came in.

We have now tried all 3 flavors of Natural, the Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry. My wife's headaches have gone away, which is always a good thing.

My wife and I both disliked the Vanilla. There was something about the flavor we didn't like. There are lots of good descriptive words for sight (bright, dim, yellow, flashing, etc), but nothing much for taste. Too bad. Anyway, we didn't like it.

I am a fan of the Strawberry. I sometimes drink it with water (it's just fine), but with soy milk (I'm a recent soy milk convert) it tastes very close to strawberry milk. I don't mind gulping protein powder just to get it over with, but the strawberry with soy milk was basically at the point that I would enjoy the drink. Excellent!

My wife is a fan of the chocolate. She said it's very similar to normal chocolate powder, which is a good thing, since I've had chocolate protein powders in the past which did not taste like normal chocolate :)

Texture wise, they mix pretty good. We have screw top bottles we use to mix the protein, we pour in the liquid, give it a few seconds of shaking, and then can drink. Usually I wait for the foamy liquid to settle, I don't like drinking foam. On a side note, if the bottle is wet when you put in the protein and the protein settles on the wet bottom, it can clump and need some pretty vigorous shaking. But normally there's no problem.

That's about it, not much else to say about protein powder. I'd strongly suggest the chocolate or strawberry, and stick with the natural stuff rather than the artificial sweeteners....more info
  • Very good taste
The taste is great but I have a slightly difficult time getting the powder to mix in if I only try to stir the drink and not blend it....more info
  • Very impressed!
After spending hours comparing nutritional information labels on a dozen diffrent brands of powders, I decided on this one for obvious reasons. It replaces alot of ingredients with natural ones, and costs only about 46 cents per serving, yet has an impressive 24 grams of protein per serving. That's really the bottom line why you should choose this product.

I got the chocolate. Threw it in a glass of water, and was VERY surprised that after stirring for about 30 seconds with just a spoon, it had almost completely disolved. You dont even need a shaker for this. As far as the taste well, theres no sweetener, and almost no sugar or fat. So of course it doesnt taste like a freakin milkshake. It's really good for you. Im sure in milk (which adds fat and sugar) it will taste great but i wont be doing that personally.

I wrote this review half a year ago, and the price has gone way up since then. It is still a great product, but not the huge value it was back when i got it $10 cheaper....more info
  • No artificial stuff!!
Whey isolate is 90% pure protein by weight and provides 24g of protein per serving. I like this version since it contains no suger or artificial sweeteners. Stevia is a natural source of sweetness, but this product does not go overboard with it. I mix mine with fat free milk, a banana, frozen blueberries, a squirt of extra virgin olive oil and a tbsl of ground flax seed. Mixing this with milk is the best way to experience the full flavor potential of this powder. On the rare occasion I mix it with just water, the taste is pretty good and it goes into solution easily.

Note that on all containers I tried, the seal under the cover was not completely sealed, but the outside seal wasn't broken so I never worried. I think this was caused by shifting of the powder during transit.

Price is a bit high, but that is my only complaint.

  • Superb Protein shake
This has everything you need in a protein shake and healthy. I use it every time after a workout. Half a cup of water, a TB of Nesquick, and a couple ice cubes into my Magic Bullet(blending machine) and I've got myself a healthy quality protein shake.

    Great product....more info
  • My seal was broken too!
I think these guys need to get their act together. I read the other poor review about a broken seal, figured it was an isolated incident, and then when I got mine in the mail same thing!

I unscrewed the cap and 1/2 of the seal popped off with it. I don't how bad this is, but I'm keeping it. You can't beat the price.

For anyone who is bothered by a broken seal, or their product being compromised by one, DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT FROM AMAZON!...more info
  • USE THIS STUFF
I am a petite woman in her 20s. I am NOT a body builder. Yet, I enthusiastically recommend this product. If you have not been updated on recent health news, there have been several studies that have revealed that whey protein greatly assists in weight loss. (Just Google this.) While I am unable to give you a scientific analysis on why whey is good, this particular brand is whey is great. I used it everyday last summer and even now before meals. I do feel fuller and more energetic after workouts. As for the taste, even adding water to the mix tastes good! It has a slightly sweet taste, but isn't particularly too sweet. If you are seeking to bulk up or if you are just seeking to lose weight -- get this. ...more info
  • Natural Whey Chocolate is great
I recently began purchasing Natural Whey and have really enjoyed it. I am trying to cut out artificial sweeteners from my diet, and this was one of the few products I could find that is not made with any. As far as taste is concerned it is not quite as good as normal ON Whey but still taste great, just a weaker taste overall. I generally mix my whey with dextrose or honey so it tastes just fine in the end. It mixes well regardless of the method you use, although spoon stirring it doesn't work as well as shaking. Overall I would recommend you give this product a shot if you have ever wondered how it was. At worst it doesn't have the right taste for you and you can add something to sweeten it. At best you will have found a new great kind of whey with no artificial sweeteners in it....more info
  • my favorite
I like this product because it has less artificial stuff than most other protein. It tastes very good also....more info
  • Tastes good
I really think it tastes good mixed with soy milk, i havn't tried it with water, though I don't think it would be good with water. If you use water to mix it, I would prolly go with the same product but the one that uses sweeteners...

as far as results, I have only been using it for two weeks, so i can't tell a huge differenece...

and the "scoop" was not in the container. perhaps its somewhere in the very bottom, but i sifted through the top half and couldnt find it... so i'm using a measuring cup, and prolly taking the wrong amount each time.....more info
  • Great tasting natural whey
Great product and a pretty good value. I ordered the chocolate flavor and it tastes great while contains no artificial additives and no sugar. Powder mixes fairly easily in a shaker bottle - 20 sec shake leaves no clumps. Highly recommended....more info
  • Perfect
Ok, so usually I'd expect protein supplements to be a chore. Hell, my friend drinks some canned protein mess that makes him gag as he's struggling to chug it down. But this vanilla whey... wonderful! Blend it in a glass of slim milk and some strawberries and I have a 35+g protein shake in the morning. I can add it to plain water to have some good vanilla flavoring while boosting protein intake at the same time. I haven't tried the chocolate flavor but since there is no added sweetener, I don't know how it would taste. Thus I went vanilla and have never looked back....more info
