Customer Reviews:

  • Excellent Product
This is a great product for the money. It's a very basic exercise machine, easy to set up - my son had it together in under an hour with minimal effort. It's easy to use, and if you use it on a regular basis you really do see changes. I think it's great for a beginner. For me it's easier to find a position and just leave it there for a while - constantly repositioning the pegs and sliding things up and down all the time isn't difficult, but it gets wearisome after a while. It's really no more difficult to use than going to the Y and using the weight room there. Except that I know who was the last person to use it! LOL It is a little longer than I expected, but just by a few inches. I would probably not be folding it and unfolding it all the time and storing it under a bed - that would be totally unweildy. I have arthritis in my hands, back and knees, and this equipment is a piece of cake for me to use. ...more info
  • Gift for the wife
My wife heard about the Toatl Gym 1000 from a friend and decided she wanted to buy one for her home work out. We tried to find one in the local box stores but were told that they were a recently discontinued item but that they had a more expensive newer replacment unit in stock, but my wife only wanted the original T/G 1000 model so I conducted a search on Amazon for this product and came up with three brand new T/G 1000's in the box for around 25 dollars less in price and with free shipping than anything we could have found driving from store to store. The T/G 1000 showed up at my home within one week in great shape and in a fully sealed and factory straped box. I set up the machine and my wife just love's using it. We are very pleased with the Total Gym 1000 and with the price and delivery from Amazon.com....more info
  • Great Equipment
I bought the Total Gym 4 years ago and love it. My husband and I both use it and it's so much better than any big bulky equipment and takes up very little space. You can target any area on your body you want, it does everything. Proves you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars or join a gym to get what you need. ...more info
  • Good buy for beginners
Yes, there are a few downsides to this system. It can take up a bit of floorspace, and it is a bit pricey. But... I had this system a few years ago and loved it. I had to sell it when I moved into a tiny apartment and needed all the space I could get. I recently repurchased the item again and don't regret it at all. There are so many exercises you can perform with this unit, and after two and a half weeks I'm already seeing results. This is a great product for beginners or for those who want an inexpensive home gym....more info
  • Awesome.......
I would highly recommend this equipment to anyone who wants exercising to be anything but a chore. It was very easy to set up and was especially easy to use. The free shipping was also a plus because no businesses in my area had anymore Total Gyms and I was afraid to pay an arm and a leg to have it shipped (would have been about $70 to ship). BUY IT!!!!!! IT WORKS AWESOME!!!!...more info
  • A+: Would recommend to anyone
This is an excellent product; within just a week or week and a half, I was able to see great results especially with the abdomen; A+...more info

  • I can't disagree with Chuck Norris.
I am not into exercise machines...at all. But this Total Gym 1100 is great for upper body exercises. It uses your body weight as resistense which makes it less than useful for improving leg strength since the legs(mine at least) are already used to lifting my own body weight. Full range of motion with your arms plus the resistence makes a GREAT workout. It is good for abs, kind of like a roman chair if you use it right. Great for muscles you normally don't use when you weight train. I will admit, it takes some creativity to come up with your own exercises to be most useful to you. Just use a little brains and get some muscles.

I bought the Total Gym: number one, because Chuck Norris told me to; number two, it folds up and stores away easily; number three, it was cheap; number four, it leaves no need for all those weights in my room; number five, it streches muscles as it works others; number six, I recognized how useful it would be to my upper body strength.

I say, listen to Chuck Norris, the only guy who does push-ups and is actually pushing the world down! The guy the buggie-man checks his closet for before going to bed! The guy who has a third fist behind his beard! The only guy who can roundhouse kick so fast his foot went back in time and destroyed Amelia Earhart's plane. The guy not on Mount Rushmore because the granite wasn't hard enough for his beard! - Buy one today....more info
  • Great Value, must understand limitations
The Total Gym 1100 is a great value given its low price combined with the number of exercise you can perform. I rated it 4 starts, but 3.5 would be more accurate. Buying the more expensive models does not greatly increase what you can do; it just improves the quality and throws in a few accessories. You can get a pretty good upper body workout on this machine, but this in not the machine if you want to do a lot of work on your legs or abs. The construction and components are not high quality, but that should be expected when buying the base line model. Nothing has broken yet, but some of the padding is showing major signs of wear after only a few months. This is a great item to if you want a good (not great) workout at a very low price, just don't expect it to do everything.

    Pros:
    - Can perform most of the same exercise as more expensive models
    - Fairly easy to move and store away
    - Good upper body workout, especially shoulders
    - Great Value
    - Amazon Shipping was great
    Cons:
    - Not for developing muscle mass, nor is it great for lower body or core
    - Quality of machine/components is not very good (this should be expected for the price)

  • One of my best purchases...
I love my Total Gym! No, I'm not on Chuck Norris' or Christy Brinkley's payroll, and I was skeptical on buying something seen in an infomercial. But I did my homework online and read every review I could find. What did it for me is a video on YouTube made by a young guy in his apartment, working out on the Total Gym while giving us a hilarious ad-lib sales pitch. Do a search for "Total Gym" and look for the guy in the white t-shirt.

Whether that was an amateur video, or made to look like one... it worked on me! I ordered it from Amazon and it arrived in a few days.

Another reviewer here on Amazon is correct... the first set up took a frustrating 15+ minutes and folding it up about the same. However, after a few tries, I now can do both in under 2 minutes.

I recommend starting on the lowest height setting and build up slowly to the next. If you're not already in shape, you will be using muscles never used before (especially neck and back) and you can injure yourself.

Though there's nothing revolutionary about two handles and a pulley, it is a lot of fun to use. I combined some exercises from the included booklet and from that funny guy on YouTube to create my own 5-part session of arm/chest/shoulder/back workouts. A separate attachment for leg workouts is included, but I haven't even tried it out yet.

As mentioned on Amazon by someone else, no, this device doesn't build bulk, but it shapes what you have and increases strength. I feel great after 15 or 20 minutes on the Total Gym before I go to work in the morning, and it helps keep me from suffering the effects of 9+ hours in front of a computer, 5 days a week.

The only cons I can note are that it's noisy, a few non-essential plastic parts popped off during use, and the foam on the handles might not last long-term. That being said, for the low price these negatives are to be expected and do not detract from my 5 Star Review.

I'm in better shape since getting it, and am having fun using it! It's ***waaaaaay*** cheaper than a health club membership and you never have to leave home to work out. When you're done, it folds up and stores in one or two parts (the sliding bed comes off if you're tight on space).

    Thanks Chuck!...more info
  • total gym1100
It is fairly easy to set up. It doesn't roll real easy, but it works.

It is exactly what I was looking for. You can pay much more for their upgraded devices, but for the average person this is probably all you will need....more info
  • Super Machine
This is easy to use and is easy on your joints--I recommend this for family & friends!...more info
