best bang for the buck We looked at several pumps and decided this is the best bang for the buck. It's not the most heavy duty pump out there but it'll do it's job fine.
We like the duo pumping action, it's much quieter than the Medela pump that was handed down to us, and also unlike the Medela system, Ameda's pump is a closed system, which means less chance of contamination. It is very easy to wash and clean.
My wife ignored the lower suction settings and just cranked it all the way up to max and still feels our baby or the Medela pump could out suck this thing.
However, unless you get the hospital grade piston driven pumps, they just don't make any home pumps that produce much more sucking power.
My wife pumps every day and feels she would be satisfied using this to pump after returning to work full time.
We did not get the carrying case or cooler bags version because we felt those things were not worth the extra $20 or $30.
I don't know about reliability since I've only had it for less than a month. It does look and feel less sturdy than Medela's pump.
If you want something that lasts, look for something else Bought the first unit when our first son was born. Performed well for six months. 2 years later we brought it out of storage after our second son was born, the unit died after just 3 days. I opened the unit, a tiny 2 cents transmission ring ruptured. We had to buy another one for $150. This one squeaks and I am afraid , it will die soon as well. Complained to customer service, no response.
It does what it is supposed to do, but it is designed to break. The little transmission ring will rip sooner or later and you have to buy another one. Warranty is only 3 months on this pump. Disappointing, 2 stars....more info
Awesome Pump! This is my second pregnancy and was looking for a less expensive pump, I had borrowed a Medela pump with my first pregnancy and really wanted my own for my second baby. So I took a chance and bought the Purely Yours pump. Okay, so this little guy rocks! It is so much easier to clean then the Medela, is just as strong and really easy to use and not nearly as big!
I have used this pump for every feeding for my son (thats a lot of pumping) for the past 6 months and the pump is starting to lose its suction so I called the company and they are sending me a new motor no problem. So great customer service, you can't beat that.
I have never used this pump as a double pump, so I can't comment on it performance wise in that area, but if you are looking for a compact, easy to clean, medical grade pump that won't cost you an arm and a leg, the Purely Yours is a great buy! Happy Pumping (if that is really possible:)...more info
This is a great pump I have been using my Purely Yours 3 or 4 times a day for 7 months and it works great. I like that it is a closed system, so no milk can get into the pump. I would definitely buy this pump again....more info
great little pump I've used it for over 4 months and everything works great! I also bought additional caps, which was broken when I tried to pull them out for cleaning. I think you'd better twist them out gentlly... It is very convienient to be carried anywhere, and very efficient to pump out milk. My baby got "nipple confusion" when we fed her with formula from bottles in hospital. She wasn't able to latch on after we tried all means. The pump saves both her and me!!! I heard from a lot of warnings that using pump would eventually cause early weaning, but that is not true from my experience. I pumped very frequently at the first two months to establish a stable milk supply, it was painful at the beginning, but seeing how my daughter grows healthy and bigger everyday makes everything worthwhile~ ...more info
Great Breastpump I have used this breastpump for 2 children now. My first child I pumped exclusively for over 1 year (no formula supplementing)...so this breastpump I used ALOT. No problems at all. Around the 1 yr mark the motor died (I understood though with as much as I used it), but the customer service people replaced it anyway (although the warranty was expired). I am now using the replacement pump three years later with my second child...She is 3 months old now and no problems with the breastpump (even though it was in storage for over 3 years). This is a great breastpump and the customer service is amazing....more info
Bad for large nipples! This seemed like a decent pump. I think my Medela pump is easier to clean and assemble, but not enough to justify the price premium. I really wanted to be happy with this pump. It's compact, quiet, and being able to put in batteries is great for when you just can't sit next to an outlet. I tried it a few times, but I can't speak to how it is to use on a regular basis for one reason: Ameda flanges aren't good for women with large nipples. Even their large 30mm size (which is a separate purchase) tapers down to a smaller diameter, so you end up pulled into a 27mm or smaller opening. I developed cuts and friction burns after one use on my left side and three uses on my right. If you're concerned about size and needing fit options, stick with Medela. ...more info
Love This Product We purchased this breast pump a few weeks ago, so my wife could start pumping to give our baby bottles occasionally. My wife and I did alot of reading and research on all the pumps including the famous Medela pumps. Out of what we researched this product seemed like the best one. We got it way sooner than Amazon said, and she tried it out right away. She loves this pump, so far no problems with it. She has been pumping occasionally and says the speed and suction have nice ranges on it. Also neither one of us thinks the pump is loud, it does make noise. The only other thing is she did need to buy bigger nipple horns. Other than that great product....more info
Good Pump and Great Service! I don't have any pumps to compare this too, as this is the only one I've ever used. I've been nursing for alomst 9 months and at one point--about 7 months in--the pump wouldn't work with just batteries. I had to plug it in. Not a really big deal, but I do travel occasionally for my job. What impressed me most was that when I called Hollister, they immediately shipped me a new motor and picked the old one up, no questions asked. I would buy this pump again just for the service I got, but it's been a good pump too. I use it every day twice a day and have no complaints....more info
Awesome pump! I've been using this pump for two months and I really like it. My baby won't pull enough milk from me so I have to pump six times a day, so I've really used it a lot and had no problems. The main reason I like it is you don't have to worry about sterilizing the tubing. Because of the way it's designed, no milk can get into the tubing. This makes it a lot easier to upkeep.
I've tried nursing at times to see if my baby will do better and during one of these times, my milk supply went down, but all I had to do was increase my pumpings from every 2.5 to 3 hours to every 2 (while I was awake), and soon my milk supply was back up and I was able to go back to 2.5 to 3 hours again.
One reason I chose it is I used an Ameda pump in the hospital. The pump kit I got there can be used with this, so I have spare parts in case I lose something, which I really like, or I can buy another kit at the local lactation clinic for only $9. When I bought mine, I couldn't find the pump at a local store, so I ordered it on the Internet, and then found out later that the exact same pump is put out by Lansinoh (but is purple instead of green) and is sold locally.
Also, I found out later that Avent has a conversion kit you can buy so if you use Avent bottles, you can use it so you don't have to transfer the milk from the Ameda bottles to the Avent bottles every time, which is really nice. Overall, I really like this pump and hope to get a lot of use out of it. It's a good pump for the price and way cheaper than buying formula!...more info
Great pump for the price! This is the best value breast pump you can buy! I have used the hospital grade medela pump and a loaner for a month and this does the job for a much lesser price than most of the pumps out there! For $149 you can't beat the price (especially comparing to Medela which costs twice as much). You can also buy it with a backpack or carrying case but no need to spend extra $25-50. I just use an inexpensive lunch bag and fits everything fine. I do have to say that first time I used it, I thought that the pump was not working but after fiddling with it and making sure all the connections are right, I haven't had any trouble since. It's also very easy to use and easy to clean. It's worth every penny, you won't regret it! ...more info
Not Bad Seems to be doing the job. My wife is not comfortable using both the pumps at the same time so she uses only one pump. It takes about 15 to 20 min. to get 2 oz....more info
Great pump, but is a little noisy This pump works well, and I am quite satisfied with it's function -- after 2 months of pumping, I am able to pump out 6-7 ounces of breastmilk within 15-20 minutes if I don't pump for 4-5 hours.
1. The 2009 model is BPA-free (model #17070).
2. Efficient pumping -- I am able to pump out 6-7 ounces of breastmilk within 15-20 minutes; 3-4 oz within 7-10 minutes.
3. Can pump both breasts at the same time (more efficient usually), or you can pump one at a time (I do this when I have my baby nurse on one side while I pump on the other).
4. You can set and control vacuum strength & cycle speed -- you have full control to set it to the level that is comfortable for you.
5. Simple to use because it has few parts, and they are easy to assemble.
6. Easy to clean the parts.
7. Can use either an AC adaptor or batteries to power it.
8. Less expensive than most other electric breast pumps -- I'm glad I didn't have to pay $200-300 for a pump.
9. Can order either Lansinoh or Ameda replacement parts from their respective websites, but only 2009 Ameda flanges and bottles are BPA-free currently.
10. Has a one-year warranty.
1. Is not contained in a carrying case, making it somewhat noisy -- it makes a distinct noise and it beeps.
1. Buy a "hands-free nursing bra" or make your own with an existing no-wire bra -- this would allow you to do other tasks while you're pumping; I actually have my lunch at work while I pump.
2. Store your breastmilk in storage bottles if you plan to use it within a few days; store it in Lansinoh storage bags (very good quality bags, and they are BPA-free) if you plan to freeze it....more info
Wort dont buy ever This pump sucks big time. I got this pump from amazon and it worked fine for 2 months and then I thought my milk production went down. I started talking herbal supplements. Then once when I used a Medela pump at work and I realised it was the mistake of the pump and that my milk production was OK. I just hate this pump... I wish I could give it some negative rating....more info
Fantastic Product This pump works amazingly well. My wife uses it daily with absolutely no discomfort. It's fast, easy, and quiet. Couldn't ask for a better pump, especially for the money!...more info
A good pump at a good price I bought this pump after hearing that it was well liked by other people who owned it and that it was half the price of the Medela Pump in Style. The Ameda pump is satisfactory - I like the ability to adjust both the speed and the amount of suction. It is also small enough to carry easily if needed. Another plus of the Ameda is that there is no way that the milk can ever get into the tubing due to the pump design. (Medela pumps don't work this way).
The only downside I have noticed in the pump is that there are very fragile valves on each pump. I've broken 2 of them already in one month even with gentle treatment. Replacement valves run about $2.50 apeiece, so I went ahead and ordered 8.
If you're looking to save money, just order the pump without the bag. I know I have tons of soft coolers at home that I plan to use instead of spending an extra $50 for yet another bag and cooler....more info
Great Product!!!! This was the best purchase for my first baby. The breast pump is well worth the money. The hand pump took too long so I looked for an electric one. This brand (Ameda) was given to me in the hospital, so I thought it must be a reputable name. I looked at other electric pumps and this by far was the most reasonable in price and quality. This pump is easy to use and has different levels of suction to help you pump faster. I use it daily and never had a problem. Its easy to clean and very sanitary- milk can't get trapped in the tubing. Very happy with this purchase. ...more info
