Customer Reviews:
  • happy pet owner
The Carina is lightweight and has great suction. I don't have carpet, but the upholstery tool does a good job of getting cat & dog hair off my upholstered furniture. It's easy to move around and doesn't take up a lot of space. At first having the exhaust on top bothered me (it blows into my face at times) but I'm used to it now. I'm sure it's clean air, being all HEPA filtered and everything. ...more info
  • Very satisfied.
The Carina is excellent, exceeding our expectations. Light, quiet, with plenty of adjustable sucking power. Am pleased we decided to spend the extra money for this quality. Only wish a full floor brush was included at less than the cost of buying it separately....more info
  • I agree
I agree with all of the reviewers who really like this machine. It's small, light, has great suction and is versatile on both hard wood floors and rugs. The attachments, however, do seem a little chintzy, maybe to keep the light weight. I guess we shall see in a couple of years how long they last. I used to own a Samsung Quiet Storm, which was much heavier, noisier and was always in need of parts. I think this unit will be a lot better....more info
  • Not for carpet
I bought this because of all the excellent reviews and was very disappointed. I am sending it back. I had an electrolux canister vac that had a power head and assumed this was the same type of thing. It's not. It does not have a power head and it's very difficult to push and pull across carpet. Plus it's a small head which requires more work to cover the same area. I'm sure it's okay for hard floors but do not get it for carpet floors because you will be sorely disappointed....more info
  • Carina Canister Vacuum
Great vacuum--very light which makes it easy to get a job done as a 5'3" woman who hates to vacuum. I've had better vacuums in Germany that were similar, but given that the selection of truly light canister vacuums in the US is sparse, this one does just fine. There are 6 different settings depending on the level of suction, and the attachments worked well for upholstery and crevices....more info
  • Good purchase
I purchased this vacuum because I have a bad back and the vacuum is extremely light. This is the lowest priced Miele canaster unit. I wish it came with the handle that is offered on it's more expensive unit, but did not need all the other options the more expensive unit came with.
Bottom line is I am happy with it, it allows me to clean my stairs and works well on both hard floors and carpet....more info
  • Love this vacuum
This is the greatest; picked it because of all the positive reviews and I am not disappointed. It arrived in 2 days without special delivery and exceeded all of my expectations! I had been having a horrible time finding a worthy vacuum since owning a Rainbow. This is all everyone said: well built, compact, quiet and good suction!!!!!...more info
  • Best Vacuum Cleaner
I love this vacuum cleaner. I've tried many before, but they don't compare. It's very light, so it is easy to lift and manouver. Also stands upright for storage and makes little noise. ...more info
  • Like magic.
Ordered on a Tuesday and like magic, it was here the next day, not even 48 hours later!
I decided on this vacume after reading other reviews on Amazon and I am very glad I did. My other upright was perfectly good and had great suction but since my back surgery, I had a hard time pushing it around and it didn't get into any of the hard to get to places. It also had a beater bar and when cleaning hard floors, everything went flying.
This little vacume can lift my rugs from the floor if I want it to and is very light weight. It is not the full size canister type but sure acts like one. Love it!...more info
  • Good
This vacuum cleaner is great. I had a cheap, standup vacuum cleaner before, but that was terrible, especially because it was bagless, so it was a nightmare to clean that thing. This one is small, light and silent, even on the max setting (6 power settings it has). It also comes with 2 bags included already. it might be a bit pricey compared to the other brands, but I'm 100% sure that the price-quality ratio is the highest....more info
  • Finally I got a vaccum that really works
I've had the Dyson vacuum for 3 years and I don't know why it took me so long to change it. This miele is excellent compared to dyson. It is light, it really sucks everything in the corners without having to change to the small device. It doesn't have high noise. I love it. It is better to spend a little more on this one and really have the work done. for carpets and floor it is giving me perfect results.

Had a new Dyson...hated it!! Miele is a dream in comparison...all the good and none of the bad... light, rolls easily, REALLY cleans, fits under things, retractable cord, quiet. Could not ask for any better!!...more info
  • Great vacuum for hardwood floors
After a year of using a Swiffer to clean my hardwood floors, I wanted to get something that would speed up the process of cleaning my 1300 sq ft apartment. I saw the great reviews on this Miele model so I ordered this from Amazon.

I already had a Miele Washer/Dryer set that I was very satisfied with and this vacuum cleaner lives up to the same standards. The canister rolls easily on my hardwood floors without scratching it. While I wouldn't say it's as silent as some reviewers make it out to be, it's certainly much quieter than my old traditional upright vacuum.

The main hose is long and reaches a long ways underneath sofas and beds. It was fairly effective at removing dog hair from my sofa. I found it convenient that I could turn off the vacuum with my foot because it has a big button for it on top side of the canister. The retractable cord slides easily back in at the touch of a button.

Overall, I think this is a great product. Only reason I give it 4 stars is due to the hefty price....more info
  • Vacuumus Magnus
I have always said to my kids: "You will always pay more for the best." This is true for the Miele vacuum. Unfortunately, we didn't always follow that credo with our vacuum cleaners. We have owned: Kirby, the Original Electrolux, Rainbow (what a joke), and several newer Kenmore's and a Dyson which is still the best sweeper on the market.

But the Miele is by far the best canister vacuum on the market, bar none. Some off the reviewers have said that it is not a complete vacuum meaning that it does not come complete with a beater brush which its does not. You will have to purchase it separately at approximately $120. It is also NOT an electric beater brush but one that operates off of the vacuum from the vacuum's line. Even then, the Miele is still the best canister vacuum out there.

If you have a lot of rugs, then this model is not for you. You will need to purchase one with an electric beater brush and that system will definitely set you back some cash; is it worth it? Heck yes it is.

We have about 80% hard floors (ceramic, wood) the rest is rugs or throw rugs. The beater brush is plenty for what we have.

The disposables are also pricey, but last forever and you will not smell or see dust after you vacuum your dusty house.

We also purchased one of the accessory sets when we bought the unit. They work well on small projects like:auto's, blinds and smaller items like computer keyboards, pet cages and refrigeration coils. The kits are well worth the money and come in a nice carry case.

The other great thing is that the unit is incredibly light and pulls very easy even on carpet. And at 1200 watts, it is offering the most power output you can get out of a 110 volt circuit.

I can't promise that a Miele vacuum will be the last one you'll every purchase, but it will come close.

Cons: the power cord can sometimes be too short in some situations, much shorter than the Dyson which can almost reach next door to your neighbors house....more info
  • Excellent Vacuum- Major Improvement!
This little vac is awesome- quiet, efficient, and even nice to look at! We have a mix of area rugs and wood floors- this vac works great on both. The other tools are handy for vacuuming under furniture, window sills, etc. It's a huge improvement over our Hoover upright as far as how much dust it traps and keeps in the bag. I always felt like a lot of dust was escaping our old upright- it was obvious when the sun was shining through the windows! The Carina doesn't seem to emit much "blow-by" at all. The cord is plenty long enough for me (that was one of the few negative comments I had seen about this model), and the "reel in" feature is perfect. I would probably recommend getting the "turbo" tool if you are going to be vacuuming a lot of carpet....more info
  • Excellent!!!
First, I want to say that I am NOT a housework freak, but I can't believe how well this vacuum cleans. And it's so quiet - I am amazed. But seeing as how I own so many German made products already, I shouldn't be surprised. The quality, ingenuity, and engineering excellence make this product a pleasure to use. The time it takes me to vacuum is cut in half, that's how effective this product is. I share my home with two large dogs and it picks up all their fur in no time. The parquet floor attachment I bought separately cleans the wood floors wonderfully even under the sofa and armoire. I am so glad I bought it; I only wish I hadn't wasted so much money on the Hoover's, Eureka's and Dirt Devil pieces of junk that I've had in the past and just hated. YAY!!! I finally have a vacuum cleaner that I love and love to use....more info
  • Love it!
Miele S4210 Carina Canister Vacuum Cleaner
Every curly-coated retriever owner should also own a Miele! I got the turbo hand brush for the stairs. The combination floor tool works great on our hardwood floors. We're in the midst of spring shedding season, but the hair is no match for the Miele!...more info
  • Love, loveloveloveLOVE this vacuum
Perfection. Weighs next-to-nothing, virtually silent, takes up no space, does a FABulous job (and with big shaggy dogs I know what I'm talking about), and it's so adorable you don't mind leaving it out. There are no downsides as far as my husband and I can see -- forget the over-engineered Dysons and the pitiful weak others ... this is a great vacuum....more info
  • Great Vac.
This is not a cheap vacuum, but you get what you pay for. Even though it is powerful, it is still light and easy to use. If you have wall-to-wall you may want to spring for the powered cleaning head, but we have not needed it....more info
  • NOTHING COMPARES!!
I have purchased three of these vacuums so far and ALL three are amazing. One for my apartment and two for my work place for the cleaning staff. Listen, this vacuum is incredible and performs like a PRO. Stop denying yourself and get on board, cause this little dude picks up dust and more like nobodys business. Nothing in the commerical world of vaccum cleaners compares!!!!! ...more info
  • The best... bar none...
If there is a better vacuum clearner out there - I would like to be introduced to it...

  • Love, Love, Love this vacuum!
Love this vacuum. It picks up pet hair so well. Suction is great. It's also so quiet and so light. Very easy to use. We are really happy with our purchase. I actually enjoy vacuuming! ...more info

Fantastic quality, very silent, small and easy to handle. Works great. Now if it lasts for years it will be perfect....more info
  • Just Wonderful!
I purchased this machine over the summer this year. I am so pleased with the product. It was a welcome relief from the GE I purchased not 2 months before I bought this one. I have been using it for several months. It is light weight, which is great for moving it up and down stairs. The suction on this machine is also incredible. It only takes a few minutes to clean each of the floors on my hard wood surfaces. It also gets up pet hair out of carpet. You don't need to go over the same spot twice. I would recommend this to anyone who would like a canister machine over the upright. ...more info
  • Quiet and Efficient
Really makes a difference. I truly hate the sound that most vacuums make. The Miele is quiet, efficient and totally worth the extra money....more info
  • The best canister vacuum
This little vacuum is terrific. Works great, lightweight, surprisingly easy to maneuver. I love it! My daughter tried mine and bought a Miele for herself. I highly recommend this vacuum, it's pure quality and efficiency....more info
  • Amazing Vacuum! Suction Like No Other!
I have been searching for a quality canister vac for sometime now. I did not not want to take out a loan and invest thousands of dollars on the namebrands. The Amazon.com reviews for the Miele S4210 are 100% accurate and I am glad I trusted what others had to say. Before I go on, let me preface that I have a home with all hardwood floors. I cannot speak to the quality of this product on carpeting. I used the vac for the 1st time last night and found it hard to put down. It was cleaning so well...excellent suction. One of the best features I think is how quiet it is. I have 3 small children and before when I ran the vac they would run out of the room and hide it was so loud. Last night, they played right around me and I could hear them down the hall. You will not be disappointed....more info
  • No Better Vacuum Out There for Bare Floors
I have owned this product for around 6 months now and have never had anything better! Background info: 3 dogs (Golden, Boxer, Catahoula Leopard Hound), 2 cats, 2 kids, bare floors in all but one room. I have owned everything from a cheapy $99 job (broke w/in 2 months)to a $1200 Kirby. NOTHING works better on pet hair, sand and bare floors (wood, tile) than this Miele! Even with other vacuums that had great suction, either the floor attachment or even the long tube at the end of the hose (not sure of the "technical" name for that part) would constantly get clogged with the animal fur. This little vacuum not only has fabulous suction, it has NEVER gotten clogged!

Other plusses: very lightweight, easy to maneuver, cord sucks up into the canister (no winding), quietest vacuum I've ever owned, small, cute (doesn't matter in the big picture but not a bad bonus)

Cons: (let me preface by saying the cons are so minor in light of the non-clogging that I am still giving the Miele 5 stars) the cord is not very long (though not really any shorter than most of my other vacuums) and the small bag fills up quickly (mostly because I am too lazy to go around and manually pick up the huge pet fur tumbleweeds before I vacuum), it is not overly easy to get at the roller brush on the turbo attachment (to clean it/pull the hair off).

Helpful hint: the difference between the models of Galaxy canister vacs is only the color of the canister and the attachments that come with it - nothing else. It took me a little time to figure that out. The turbo power attachment works great on mats and area rugs and does just fine on our one room with carpet. The bare floor attachment has never scratched anything and has a low enough profile to go underneath almost all of my furniture.

I have never written a review before (although I should have done so because I rely on them all the time) but just finished vacuuming in record time and with such ease that I felt compelled to sing the praises of this little Miele!...more info
  • Like a German sports car...
This is a great piece of quality craftsmanship and engineering. It is a joy to use. Everything is simple and intuitive, from the suction control to the silky smooth swiveling attachments that allow you to pilot your way under any piece of furniture with ease. The power is great, but I do agree with T. Bullard that you should do your homework before buying one. The turbo brush is great for my low pile carpet, but I don't know how it would perform on thicker rugs.

    Highly recommended....more info
  • Just what I was looking for
Tried several vacuums, shop vacs, uprights, cheap ones and expensive ones. The Miele S4210 was just the thing I needed. Very powerful and works well on all surfaces. Lightweight and easy to maneuver. I am very pleased with it's performance. Delivery was much sooner than expected too! ...more info
  • Once you use a Miele, you will never use another
This canister vacuum is perfect for multitasking quickly and easily. I have carpeting, wood, and vinyl floors in my house and used two different vacuums for it. When I bought the Miele, I was able to get rid of the other two cleaners and use this one throughout.

It does an incredible job of getting up everything: pet hair, dust, crumbs, little bits of "stuff", those nasty dust bunnies and illusive corner cob webs which seem to appear overnight as if by magic (or maybe time to get new glasses!).

In one room during a Spring clean, I started at the top - literally! Went from the ceiling and the molding down to the walls - curtains - floors - lamp shades - and everything else in between. All I had to do was change the cleaning head and adjust the suction amount. All simply and quickly done.

The fact that it is also fairly quiet was a real bonus. I could actually vacuum while little one was taking his nap ... now THAT is a major plus for any appliance!

I know the price is high but you are paying for the quality of the vacuum - an investment if you will. It is very well made and will last for many, many years. I recommend this vacuum highly....more info
  • Well worth the investment.
Although it is expensive, it is well worth the price. The vacuum has excellent suction yet is still quite powerful. The noise isn't going to blow out your ears like many other machines and the unit is very light and easy to store....more info
  • great little machine
Compact, quiet, great suction, and suction control options. Simple to use. The telescopic wand is great, as are the 360 degree turning wheels. The two different temporary housing slots for the wand make stopping and starting during the vacuuming session easy. The design of the Miele in terms of maintenance is simple and effective.
The only cons I can see are that the tool storage on the wand sometimes gets in the way when you want to vacuum under furniture; you need to take it off. Also, the on/off switch is not always very responsive....more info
  • Perfect for apartments and small houses
We live in a cottage with a dog, and the indoor air quality was getting so bad that I couldn't breathe at night (and I don't have allergies to anything). The old canister vac was pretty ineffective, and the worn-out cord was a fire hazard.

This canister vac, while a little expensive for the price tag, is such a fantastic replacement. I debated going down to Sears or Target and just picking up a hundred dollar vac like I've done many a time before, but they always disappoint me.

The operation of the Carina is smooth and extraordinarily quiet (the dog no longer hides when the vacuum is running). I upgraded to the optional HEPA filter and the exhaust air, while not pine-fresh, smells clean. A few basic attachments were enough to get window sills, shelves, crown molding, and floors done. It picked up enough dirt, dust, and dog hair that I can finally sleep soundly at night.

There's just one problem, which I have seen mentioned elsewhere -- short power cord (hence 4 stars instead of 5). This machine isn't going to work as well in suburbia; it's a compact machine for compact spaces, and probably more suitable for urban dwellers. I had to replug when moving from the kitchen to the bedroom, but otherwise, it worked great....more info
  • This is one fine sucker
I'm really pleased with this vacuum. I love the size too. I live in an apartment with little storage space and it's nice and small but still has a lot of suction power. I've gone through so many vacuums in the last five years so I was a little reluctant to pay that much for another one but I can tell that this is a good investment, it just feels solid. It's so light and easy to use, plus I can clean the stairs with no problems. It's also easy to clean under furniture and hard to reach spaces. I wish I would have purchased it a long time ago....more info
  • Wow!!!! What a vaccum..................
Well I spent 3 months researching all canister vaccums out on the market and kept going back to this miele. Yes it is very expensive (about twice the price of its competitors) but it definitely out performs them hands down.

My floors have never been so clean in the 16 years I have lived in my current home. I have mexican tile, pergo floors and carpet and the two attachments that come with the machine are incredible.

I have had machines break bits off themselves in the past because of my mexican tile (very uneven surface) and with the parquet floor head it is just a breeze to clean and it also does my concrete patio floor. Amazing and then the head can be washed and away you go again.

Your oriental rugs with fringe are no obsticle for this vaccum because you have so many controlled settings to clean with.

For the first time ever I was able to clean my valances without taking them down, what a huge time and energy saver.

My husband thought I was completely nuts spending this kind of money on a vaccum cleaner but I am here to tell you that I will have this one for years to come and the service I will get locally is wonderful too.

So treat yourself you won't be sorry, I know I'm not. I always hated vaccuming my house because I have a injured back but with this very lightweight model I do not have pain afterwards....more info
  • buyer beware
Read the fine (or missing) print carefully. This is not a general purpose vacuum purchase. You need to buy the carpet attachment to be able to vacuum carpets (another $100). If you want to return this item, they charge a restocking fee of 10% and also deduct for the shipment (even if you got "free" shipping) AND you pay to ship the thing back. We ended up buying locally from Sears and are much happier with it than from Central Vacuum Stores - which is where the Miele came from. ...more info
