  • Perfect pet vacuum
This vacuum is a dream - I had no idea cleaning a rug covered in dog hair could be so easy. The pet brush attachment is great as well - super easy to use and so far has sucked all the hair up without me having to pull hair out at the end. I would have bought this so much sooner had I known how great it was!...more info
  • Not worth all the reasonable price
I just received the vacuum and used it on my kitchen floor. I was shocked to see it didn't pick up the crumbs as good as I thought. My 15-year old Hoover vacuum did a better job. It just kept pushing the crumbs and not picking them up. I kept adjusting the height of the vacuum using the dial on the bottom which is extremely hard to do. It took a lot of muscle to turn it. Adjusting all the height differences made no change in its ability to pick up the crumbs. It is also a very heavy vacuum and the placement of the cord is not well designed. I kept having to move the cord so I wouldn't run over it , because it comes out from the bottom of the vacuum. On a positive note, I loved the lift off and turbo brush to vacuum the stairs. I thought that part did a great job, but overall I did not like it and returned it....more info
  • Buyer Beware!!!
This vacuum cleaner was a great buy, so I thought until yesterday! It picks up everything, and I do mean everything. The tools that come with it our great, and they do the job right. Problem is, I only had this vacuum 4 months, and yesteday while I was vacuuming, the motor burnt up on it. Now when I try to turn it on, it does nothing. I usually have great success with Bissell, not this time. Very dissapointing :(...more info
  • Best Vac I've ever owned!
This vac is not heavy, it's easy to clean, and it sucks the pet hair like you would not believe! I have had this vac for alittle over a year, and I have not had any regrets whatsoever! The canister can be taken apart for easy cleaning with soap and water. The filters are easy to clean as well. I let them dry overnight, and put them back in. I change the paper filter every couple of months, and I find the replacements at Walmart. There is a detachable hose with an attachment for stairs or furniture...that works great too. When I wear this one out, I am buying another one just like it!...more info
  • great buy for the $
I bought this vacuum because several friends recommended it. There are a lot of parts to keep track of but it is still easy to clean. As long as you don't let the dirt cup get overfilled it works wonderfully. I have two dogs and it does a great job with removing hair etc. I love the removable canister feature for doing stairs and ceilings. ...more info
  • Nice Vacuum
I just got this vacuum a few days ago so I cannot comment on the longevity of this product, however, I will comment on the features. The vacuum itself is pretty heavy, but I don't consider that a bad thing. It sucks the life out of my area rugs and the hardwood floor attachment work really well on the hardwoods. The lift off feature is nice and easy and works like a champ. I figure this feature voids the overall weight of the machine because the canister isn't that heavy. I would've like to have seen a little longer hose, or at least a stretchier one. The one that comes with it is adequate because they include a telescoping extension that does the trick. I researched vacuums for days and days and settled on this one. I am glad I did, the price was right and it does a great job. I recommend it. Later. ...more info
  • ONE CONVENIENT VACUUM
I really like this machine. Very strong suction and the converting from an upright to a tank type machine is a breeze. The only change I would make is some type of system to clean the beater bar easier without having to take out the screw driver. I have 3 Collies so I havea lot of long hair that will get wound around the beater bar, but it has not stopped is effectiveness. I wanted this machine for bare floor as well so you can turn off the brushes, but I don't find it works as good as I had hoped for, but it might be because I have to clean the hair out of the brushes.
I would buy it again.Bissell 37603 Lift-Off Revolution Deluxe Upright Bagless Vacuum...more info
  • WALK AWAY FROM THIS VACUUM!!!!
It's pretty, sure. It's got lots of gadgets, ok. Seem like just the right fit for your lifestyle....NOT! This vacuum, although lovely to look at from the outside, is a horror of horrors on the inside. Who invented this bagless, 3 filtered mess? If you have a home or office where no dust EVER occurrs you're a perfect fit. If you have kids and dust and pollen and hair and leaves and more dust: just say "NO". I'm sick and I do mean sick, and tired of having to pull all the nasty stuff that gets stuck in the bagless cups filter, I have to pull out the various filters and gag and gag and gag before submerging them into hot bleach water. No, this is not the vacuum of the future unless bioterrorism in in your future. Step away from this vacuum!!!...more info
  • It's a Job to Keep Clean
After reading all the comments about this machine, I see that the biggest problem was the filter. So at $169.95 I thought I would try it. It is nice that it separated into a canister vac so you can either use on the stairs, the hardwood floors or the automobile. The on and off beater bar was a nice feature also.

After using it for a week I could see that if the filtration system was not fixed that the HEPA filter was going to get dirty FAST. So I came up with this solution.

Take a good paper towel and cut it long ways about 3" wide so you have a piece 13" x 3". Wrap it around that top foam filter , cutting off the excess, leaving a 1/2" overlap and taping it to hold it in place. Reinsert and now it catches most of the small dirt. To clean, just unscrew and cut off the paper towel and install another. Work really nice for me.

Three other problems are the little hand beater bar, it collects fuzz around the belt and clogs it to a standstill so it must be taken apart with a philips screw driver to remove the accumulation. The other is the hair and string collects around the beater bar and must be removed by cutting it and pulling off all that build up. The dirt collection drawer is small and requires frequent cleaning.

Some say it was loud but it was quieter than the Eureka Boss that this replaced.

PS: It has great suction but all 3 filters have to be cleaned very well for it to work at its fullest potential

PSS: A lot of work to keep clean...more info
  • Not a good buy
The price seemed right, but this vacuum is not a good buy. It does not pick up the dirt on my carpets or my bare floors. It does not clean edges, and the tools are cumbersome and difficult to attach. The removable canister sounded good, but it's not practical to use. This might be okay for very light cleaning jobs.
I found it a waste of money....more info
  • Great product for the money!
This vacuum was all I was hoping it would be. It cleans without having to have to vacuum the same spot many times and the filters can be rinsed out instead of being replaced. We have two dogs and not only does it clean the dog hair off everything (the upholstry brush even has a rotating brush)but with the three filters the basement / AKA dog room doesn't smell like dog anymore. It is a little heavy overall, but when I used the lift off part with the shoulder strap for the stairs, it wasn't heavy enough to bother my shoulder or back. It was only heavy carrying the entire machine from one level of the house to another. I read some other reviews that complained about the dust when removing the bagless canister to empty it, but I have not had that problem. I have only had the machine for about 2 weeks, but I LOVE it. ...more info
  • Excellent vacuum
This is the second time I have purchased this model/type of vacuum, and I can honestly say it is amazing. It cleans very well, and I love the detachable canister.

The extra attachments work very well also. They aren't cheesy add-ons with limited value, but solid little devices that clean well. We have alot of dogs in the house so we need a good vaccum :)

  • Great Product, Great Service!
I purchased this vacuum because of the removable canister to do steps. I just had back surgery and was unable to use the vacuum for several weeks, but my tweenage daughter tried to help out. Unfortunately, the vacuum tipped and the hose guide broke off. I was so disappointed because it was brand new and I hadn't even had the chance to use it yet! I emailed Bissell and they mailed me a new hose guide within days! Now that I've recovered from the surgery, I've been able to use it and I'm amazed (and a little embarrassed) at how much it picks up! I highly recommend this product and the company....more info
  • Amazing Vacuum!
I have always been a fan of upright vacs. I was looking at the Dyson and as soon as I described my area rug/wood floor situation to a sales man, he instantly tried to sell me a canister vac. I cringed at the thought of breaking my neck tripping over the can but saw the validity in what he was saying. Then I found the Bissell Lift off and thought I could have the best of both worlds.
This is an amazing vacuum. It has all the accessories that make vacuuming easy. I have a cat and he is shedding all over the place. The turbo brush is incredibly powerful and I just have to pass over the hair once to scoop it up. I also really like being able to turn off the rotating brush for the non-carpeted floors.
The vacuum as a whole is very heavy so any time I have to lift it, I make sure I only take the canister. I appreciate that it can be carried over my shoulder so I'm not tripping over a rolling canister. When I am using the whole upright and it is running, amazingly, the vac glides very easily over the thickest carpets.
I have noticed a difference of clean air in my house. My husband's allergies have been much more manageable since I bought the Bissell.
    I highly recommend this vacuum.

  • Very happy with this vacuum!!
I have always had a cannister style vacuum but the love of my life prefers to use an upright! :) This was the perfect compromise (and since he does vacuum, I wanted to compromise!) It's very easy to use, the canister lifts off making it easy to do the steps in our split foyer home. All the attachments are on-board with the exception of the hard wood floor attachment...otherwise I would have given this 5 stars! Its amazing to see how much dirt is brings up eash time we vacuum. We are very pleased with this vacuum...so much so, we bought the smaller upright for our lower level....more info
  • the best vacuum for the money
I previously had a Bissel Flip-it to vacuum and mop my 1900 sq ft house that is entirely hard wood floors. I found that I would have to vacuum and sweep some areas, and mop, almost every week. Now, with this new vacuum, it has a hard floor attachment, (very helpful) and the suction is so much better that I have less to mop each week, and when I do mop, it takes half the time, because there is less dust residue on the floor. I love this vac. And, the convenience of being able to take it out to the car to vacuum, or grab it to clean up a spill or crumbs is very useful. it's easy to use, and has amazing suction power!!! Well worth the money. And the second set of filters is very helpful....more info
  • I can't beleive how NASTY my carpet is.
I have had this vacuum cleaner for a little over a year. Every time I run it I am astonished at how much YUCK it sucks out! I have never owned a better cleaner! I actually saw it in a store recently and was thinking about buying another for my store. I don't really need a new vacuum the one there works alright but I really like this one. I have two cats and a border collie. This vacuum sweeps up cat and dog hair alike. I really love the little attachment with the spinning brushes(forgot what it's called) My cats favourite spot on my couch is clean as a whistle. I use the lift off function to clean my carpet in my car as well as the seats that my four year old dumps every thing this side of the moon on. It also makes vacuuming stairs WAY easier than trying to haul the whole cleaner up and down. It sits right on the next step and the long cord makes that chore simple as well. I like that it isn't too heavy. One of my favourite things is the very long cord. It's not something a lot of people think about until they can't vacuum the whole room. I can plug this in the living room and vacuum the kitchen and living room, foyer, hall, two and a half bedrooms and a bathroom without having to replug...LOVE THAT! Only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the setting to turn off the spinning brush for hard surface floors. I love that it has that function, because every other machine simply throws whatever is on my hardwood floors all over. However, the machine doesn't seem to suck up very well on this setting. When I purchased it there were some complaints about the vacuum losing suction when filters get clogged. Mine came with two sets so I just hand wash mine once a week. While they are drying I use the other set, no problems here! Well that's about it except to say I would highly recommend this Vacuum. ...more info
  • Great until it stopped working
This think sucks [so to speak]. We bought it two years ago and have used it very frequently and it has never given us a problem. Interesting that another reviewer compared it to a Dyson and said it was better - we couldn't affort the Dyson and settled with this. I couldn't imaging another vacuum getting more dirt out of the carpet.
We especially like the removable cannister so you can do stairs without lugging around the entire vaccum and the turbo brush for getting cat hair of the sofa. Empty the cannister outside as it can get messy and yes, the dust does tend to stick to the plastic - probably due to static. We've gone through one belt and that was it until today - the thing is completely dead. Nothing, nada, not even a humm.
Took it back to Best Buy who smugly told me the service plan had expired [transferred from a dirt devel pile of rubbish vacuum]. I decided to take it back home and repair it myself. Turns out that the power switch was faulty and had completely melted inside the switch. I dismantled the switch and dug out the melted plastic and rebuilt the switch - hey presto it worked. However, I'm going to call their customer support to see if they can send me a new one: "If your machine still does not have power, please contact Consumer Services at 1-800-237-7691, Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., or Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., ET. A representative will assist you."
FYI, the rocker switch part number is SR-06NR.
Would I buy it again? Probably. But I'd definitely recommend purchasing an extended warranty - vacuums are notorious for going wrong in our household.
Update: Bissell customer service do not stock this part - they will refer you to your local service center. Oreck service center in Cerritos, CA [Opposite the Cerritos Mall] have the power buttons in stock for $9.99....more info
  • Bissell Vacuum Review
I like a lot of the features of this vacuum. The suction power is extremely good. I really like being able to turn the power off for the brush to do hardwood floors. My house is 50/50 hardwood and carpet. I love the separate power brush for doing my stair strips. I like the removable cannister although I would have preferred a longer hose for cleaning the stairs. It would have been a little easier.

I absolutely dislike the placement of the cord. I have to wrap it around the top of the handle so I don't run over it. I also dislike removing the dirt. It gets up into the filter area and you have to use a screwdriver or something to get it out. You also have to be careful not to knock the vacuum over when using the tools.

  • Impressive and easy to carry
I needed an upright I could carry up and down stairs without further damaging my bad shoulder, and I didn't want to sacrifice suction. I've been nothing but impressed with what this vacuum picks up, and I can pick it up. I take the detachable cannister upstairs while vacuuming the stairs and then run down for the light-weight upright housing when I need it. Emptying the large dirt collection container is easy and it's rewarding to know how much cleaner the house must be after what's been thrown away. The filters are easy to clean. I highly recommend the "deluxe" version which comes with a second set of filters to pop in while the first is drying. Also, the bare floor tool really does do edges well. Down side, the hose and wand could be a little longer. I'd buy it again, though, I'm very happy with my decision....more info

  • good vacuum but terrible turbo brush
We've had this vacuum for about a year now. We got it because of my daughter's allergies and we wanted one with a HEPA filter. (We have a dog and a cat - and lots of pet hair getting trapped in our carpets.) As soon as we brought it home, I decided to "test" it. I vacuumed my whole house with our old vacuum (which does a pretty good job.) Then I vacuumed with this one. I was amazed at how much dirt and pet hair it picked up! I had to empty the canister twice before finishing my house (2400 square feet).

After a couple weeks (if that) my turbo brush stopped spinning. It didn't do a good job before then so I figured it was defective anyway. I called Bissell and they didn't seem surprised. They sent a new one free of charge. The new one was spinning, but still the suction was terrible. It didn't pick up anything. We just don't bother using it at all.

It is a heavy vacuum, but it glides nicely. Carrying it upstairs takes a bit of effort, but the handle is placed in a good spot so I don't mind that.

I like that it's bagless, because with the pet hair we fill up frequently. I have heard however, that you are releasing all the dust back into the air when opening the canister. So if you have dust allergies, a bag might be better. I have to wash the filter frequently, but it comes with two so I always have a backup ready to go.

Basically, if the Turbo Brush worked, I'd be thrilled!...more info
  • Too many flaws in design of this product
I am totally unhappy with this vacuum. First, it is very heavy and the handle is difficult to hang on to. If you want a real workout, buy this machine. Also, the design has the cord coming out of the machine very low to the floor. To prevent running over the cord you constantly have to reach down and grab the cord and move it around or hang on to it with the handle, which is already difficult to grip. You also have to continually reach down to adjust for carpet height.

It does not adjust easily when moving from carpet to bare floor to area rugs. It is almost impossible to vacuum area rugs. If it is set too low it won't move, if it is set too high it doesn't work effectively, if it is in the middle it throws any sand and dirt out behind it. That also happens on bare floors. And if you use the attachment it just doesn't pick up the dirt.

Also, when you empty the collection container, fine dust flies out and sticks all over the container and the inside of the area where the container sits. You have to wipe everything off inside and out everytime you empty it. Instructions say to clean the filter once a month, but you have to take out the one filter and clean it everytime you vacuum. It gets loaded with fine dust everytime you use it. I feel like I need a surgical mask when I empty the container. Fine dust flies everywhere.

On top of all that, the collection container has two small 'wings' on it where fine dust particles collect. To really get it clean, you have to remove the two side inserts which are difficult to slide back in after the first time you use the machine because of the fine dust particles that stick to everything.

This has the little upholstery attachment, which works okay, but it is difficult to hang onto. If I could, I would return it.

  • Great buy!
We have had the vacuum for 2 months now and it's the best vacuum we have ever had. The removable canister is handy when cleaning otherwise unaccessible areas such as around furniture, ceilings, and walls and with spills, it's quick and easy. The Turbo brush is an excellent tool for the stairs and hard to reach areas. Being bagless, it is easy to see what is being picked up, and it's easy to empty. It gathers dust and static on the outside a little, but it is very easy to rinse off. The mutiple filters protect the motor so the unit will last longer. I would recommend this vacuum in a heartbeat!...more info
  • Good suction, but...
I got my Bissell in December (of 2005). During the first three weeks, there was a heavy plastic smell. When I called customer service, they said it's usually like that and to give it about a week (even though it had already been a week). However, they were more interested in getting me to register the product than listening to what I was asking about the smell. They simply were not concerned at all that I was having a problem, they only wanted me to register.

Eventually, the smell did wear off. Now though (in February) I am having to replace the roller brush. The vacuum is only 2 months old!

I do think the vacuum has a lot of suction power, but the vacuum is pretty heavy (though it does "glide" well on the carpet) and in addition, the Bissel engineers put the cord on the right hand side, where it has to cross over between you and the vacuum. If the cord were on the left hand side (as most people are right handed) then it would come out straight and into your left hand as you vacuum with your right to keep it out of the way....more info
  • Great Vacuum! Wonderful Features!
This vacuum is great! We have stairs and the "lift-off" feature makes it so much easier to vacuum them. The turbo brush attachment is great for small spots in between furniture, so I don't end up moving furniture every time I vacuum. (This attachment is also what I use to clean the stairs.) I love that it has an extra set of filters so that when one set of filters is dirty and is cleaned and air-drying I can still use the vacuum because of the extra filter set. This vacuum sucks up the dirt really well. The feature to turn off the brush makes vacuuming my kitchen and bathrooms so much easier (my old vacuum didn't have this feature and the brush would just kick the bigger debris around the floor instead of picking them up). The dusting tool is great... I have a lampshade that I could never get all the dust out of the crevices, but once I attached the dusting tool the powerful suction sucked all the dust and now my lampshade is finally dust free! This really is a great vacuum and I would definately recommend the DELUXE version of this vacuum because the attachments are well worth the extra expense. The vacuum is a little heavy, but when compared with my old one it's not that much heavier than an average vacuum. The only complaint is that the hose is so stiffly coiled (wire or some sturdy material in the coils) that when I was vacuuming something with the hose attachement I pulled the hose and it being stiff it knocked over the vacuum which fell and cracked off a piece of the hose holder. Just be aware of the stiff hose. Other than that it's great and I'd definately buy it again. I couldn't find this model in any stores yet, so with Amazon's free shipping (which was the promo at the time I bought mine) it was well worth purchasing from Amazon....more info
  • Excellent Suction Power!
This vacuum is amazing. Not only does it have excellent suction power, it also has a portable canister that works wonders for stairs, cars and even my floor boards. It was so easy to use and the turbobrush was really a great feature for pet hair! The dirt cup is great becuase it showed me everything that had been suctioned out of the carpet. I was amazed at the amount of hair and dirt that was left in my carpet by my previous vacuum cleaners! Not having to use bags ever again is a bonus and the color of the vacuum is great! My carpets look great and this machine was so easy to use and assemble!...more info
