Customer Reviews:

  • More Candy Bar Than Granola Bar
I eat various kinds of food bars nearly every day and have been for several years now. I like the convince of having an easy to pack, long self life, meal on the go that bars give. When I saw this Almond Granola Bar I decided to give it a try. Upon initial inspection I was a little disappointed to see all of the corn syrups and sugars listed so highly in the list of 30+ ingredients, many of the bars I eat have less than 10 ingredients and use brown rice syrup or grape juice to sweeten them, which is suppose to cause less of a spike in blood sugar and help you not crash after an hour or so. How about the taste? At first it was almost too sweet and salty to handle, but after a few bites I got used to it and really had to just think of it as more of a candy bar to convince myself it was suppose to taste this way. If you are looking for something with a lot of fiber or protein or have a problem with really sweet stuff, this is not the ideal bar for you, but if you are looking for something that is a little healthier than a candy bar, but tastes just about as good, this may be the solution....more info
  • Nice ... sweet & salty.
Can you say yummy? I've been fond of the peanut ones, but the almond is almost as good. Definitely worth a try ... not your ordinary granola bar. ...more info
  • pretty good
Tot too chewy not too crunchy. I found this bars to be kind of odd. They taste pretty good and I love all the nuts in them, but the creamy part is a bit overly sweet for me. I would prefer it if the bar was all mixed together rather then in layers. I did like them, they just are not my very favorites....more info
  • Granola Bars
Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars, Almond are pretty darn good the only draw back of these savory tidbits are the Almonds are very small. I love the salty sweetness of these bars. I recommend them at the subscribe and save price....more info
  • Tastes great, but too unhealthy to be called a "Granola Bar"
Granola bars have in the past been a somewhat healthier alternative to candy bars, giving you energy but not so much of the unhealthy stuff.

These bars do taste just like candy; they're delicious. A nice blend of sweet and chewy with crunchy and nutty.

Unfortunately the #2 and #5 ingredients are corn syrup, #4 is sugar, and more sugar appears in the various components of the bar. Sorry, but 12g of sugar in 1 tiny bar is too much.

If you just want something sweet to go along with your bag of doritos, go for it. If buying for kids you want to keep healthy, choose a different product....more info
  • Sugar and Salt and Nuts
It is what it says it is! Sweet (high maltose corn syrup, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, fructose) and Salty Nut. In many ways it's a half-way house between healthy nutty bar and junk candy. The taste is real sweet, with a (cloying? refreshing?) smoothness from the butter/yogurt coated bottom. Maybe a little better for you or your kids than a candy bar, but the sugars and palm kernel oil make fun of the 'Nature Valley' branding....more info
  • Apparently anything can be called a "granola bar"
This is candy, with several forms of sugar (high maltose corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, sugar, fructose) listed among the first few ingredients. There are only 160 calories per bar only because the bars are so small. The only place you will see an almond is on the package, as the bar itself is covered with a sugary coating. There are 22g. of carbs but only 3g of protein.

I would recommend, if you want a sweet/salty bar, the CLIF MOJO bar. This is just junk....more info
  • Undermining the Brand
I have been a fan of Nature Valley granola bars for years. They come in many varieties. My favorites lately have been the Pecan Crunch and Peanut Butter bars. So, I was pleased to learn that Amazon now offers the bars in their many different varieties.

Nature Valley first introduced Oats and Honey granola bars in 1975. Over the years, the Nature Valley brand came to be identified with healthful snacks. This blurb on the Amazon web site for the Oats and Honey bars sums it up, "The bars are full of classic crunch and whole grain goodness, making them a completely natural energy boost that's high in fiber and protein but low in saturated fat." This is the image that Nature Valley has established and wishes to project.

However, now, in an effort to expand their market, Nature Valley has started to produce products which are not quite full of that same goodness. While, the Oats and Honey package proclaims "100% Natural", the best that Sweet & Salty can say is "Dipped in Almond Butter Coating." For example, Oats and Honey does not have corn syrup or preservatives. The Sweet & Salty bars move away from the healthful towards run-of-the-mill junk food with more sugar, fat, and preservatives in the ingredients, and higher percentages of less-desirable constituents.

    Comparison by weight percentages
    Oats and Honey:
    Fat-14%, Saturated Fat-1%, Sodium-0.4%, Sugars-26%
    Sweet & Salty:
    Fat-20%, Saturated Fat-6%, Sodium-0.5%, Sugars-34%

The Sweet & Salty bars have a pleasant enough taste, close to that of the Nature Valley Chewy Granola Bars. They are noticeably sweet. However, the ingredients and nutrition facts discourage me from eating these bars. Worse for Nature Valley, they have undermined the integrity of their brand. All you have to do is to read the label.

  • Tasty Buttery Almond Snack
These granola bars taste good and have a nice combination of nuts and yogurt-like covering. They taste buttery, so that is important to consider. I think it is also important to review the ingredients to make sure you are comfortable with them. These are not all-natural despite the packaging....more info
  • These snack bars are the best!
I can't tell you how much I love these bars! They are so delicious and satisfying! I love, love, love them!...more info
  • Deliciously Addicting!
I've had Nature Valley products before and usually like them OK, but the sweet & salty almond bars knocked my socks off! They are so delicious! They are chewy yet crunchy. The best part is the "almond" coating at the bottom - this is what really makes the granola bar and sets it apart from the rest. Awesome - will definitely buy again & again!...more info
  • Yummie! :)
Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars:

Extremely sweet, very nutty (plenty of whole, plump, meaty almonds), maple, brown sugary taste, just enough Granola Bar per package to stave off hunger.

This one is a Winner! imo. -- Katharena Eiermann, 2009...more info
  • Very Tasty
I was actually surprised at how good these bars are. There are whole almonds which is a nice touch, and they do have a buttery flavor. My only negative is that I would have liked to taste an even greater contrast from sweet to salty. The product is skewed towards the sweetness rather than the salty; probably because of the yogurty bottom coating and all the 'sugars'. I'm a bit disappointed that the second ingredient is 'high maltose corn syrup', the fourth ingredient is sugar followed by high fructose corn syrup as the fifth. That's a lot of sugar making up a high percentage of the product - probably on-par with most products of this type but not generally what I like to have. ...more info
  • Excuse me, I wanted Almonds
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE these granola bars. BUT, Amazon did not ship me the delicious Almonds that I craved, but rather shipped me the Cashew variety. Yuck, I hate cashews! Not only did they do this once, but they shipped me cashew twice! I put in a complaint and they are shipping me the correct bars (or more cashew, who knows?). On the plus side, Amazon cannot accept food returns, so I have two boxes of free cashew granola bars that will sit on my floor for the next FOREVER....more info
  • Sweet&Salty yet not Sweet enough.
The salty flavor of this nut bar was good. If the almond butter was a little more sweet then I would have been forced to buy more of it. Enjoyed having the snack bar during days out; it helped cure my appetite when I had no time to buy any other food (the point of a snack bar). I would prefer some more "crisp rice" in the bar--would have felt lighter and easier to chew. If the almonds could be softened that would help too. The majority of the case lasted 3 weeks; I found myself eating 2 or more bars per day. Other than that, I enjoyed the bar for what it's made of (not the nutrition value). ...more info
  • Great taste with burst of flavor!
Definitely sweet with salty in-between! Flavor bursts everywhere, and almonds galore. These bars are awesome and I really expected the sugars to be much higher than 12 mg, but the bar is filling and flavorful and full of nuts. I will definitely be buying these at the grocery store for those in-between snacks. Great product!...more info
  • Really Good Taste and Not Too Bad
I stay pretty busy and like to have a quick snack around for breakfast or during the afternoon. I typically keep granola bars or Zone bars around for a quick protein pick-me-up, so these looked really tempting and i thought I would give them a try.

Taste: I think these are some of the best tasting bars out there. The bars have a "white chocolate" coating on the bottom (which is the sweet - and I am not sure is actually white chocolate) and a salty taste on the top. The mix of sweet and salty really makes for a great taste and the almonds (if you like them as much as I do) create an almost "buttery" like flavor. These really hit the spot.

Content: If you are somewhat active, I don't think that you have to get too picky about the fat content. Besides, some fats are actually not bad for you and good for the body (and brain), such as those found in nuts. But I don't want to get into too much of a health debate becuase these are a snack, not a meal replacement. They are a great snack that give's you just enough to make it to the next meal. Some folks may get too focused on the nutrition label and nit pick to see the big picture and miss out on these. As long as you aren't eating these by the boxful, they are a great snack that will carry you until the next meal.

Overall: I love them. We've bought a few more boxes since we tried these and I can say they are the best snack we've had in a while. Great for a road trip of to throw in the backpack. We haven't tried the other flavors yet, since we all really like the Almond ones. Don't take my word for it. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed....more info
  • Oh so very good... this coming from a granola hater!
Wow... I was pleasantly surprised by these sweet treats. I am not big on Granola bars nor am I big on candy, but these bars are truly tasty, although they are definitely more candy than health food bar. They are absolutely saturated with Almond flavor, and the sweet/salty combo is truly tops.

What else can I say? If you're an almond or granola fiend, you owe it to yourself to at least try out these treats... pick 'em up ASAP!...more info
  • Hits the Spot
Taste great and very satisfying. Think of the healthy almonds - not the calories; much better than just a candy bar!...more info
  • delicious!
I was a fan of the peanut Sweet & Salty bars and I was delighted to see an almond version. Excellent flavor and a lots of almonds (they're first on the ingredients list). Only downside is it contains HFCS....more info
  • Mmm, love these.
I love the Nature Valley Sweet & Salty series- they have just the perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness (duh). This particular flavor has a yogurt covered bottom, and is quite chock full of nuts. I counted no less than 12 WHOLE almonds in one bar- not just slivers mind you, but whole almonds.

    Delicious, the perfect snack!...more info
  • One of our favorites!
My husband and I routinely pack our lunch and granola bars are a staple. The Sweet and Salty Nut bars by Nature Valley are one of our favorites. Although my husband prefers the Peanut, my personal favorite is the Almond!

The almonds are plentiful so that there is almost one in every bite. The salt brings out the sweetness and almond flavor. A white chocolatey, almond flavored coating is on the bottom. This is one thing I could take or leave. I almost wish the bar came without this feature. Although I suspect it is there to solidify the bar so it doesn't fall apart.

Those with sodium issues would hopefully steer clear given the name of the product. But, we do enjoy them, along with other types of bars.

My only complaint would be the downsizing of many of Nature Valley's granola bars, like so many other products have been these days. I do wish this was just a little bigger.

Other than this, I can only say thumbs up for this tasty treat!

  • A Gardener's Lunch
Granola bars work well for me when I'm spending the day in the garden. Nature Valley is not normally one of my preferred brands because in the past I have not found their taste, texture, and dryness appealing. However, these Almond sweet and salty bars are a pleasant surprise. They are both sweet and salty as advertised, moist, and they actually have real almonds in them. I find these to be a satisfying way to have a 160-calorie lunch while on the go. ...more info
  • more sweet than salty
The stats: 160 calories, 7 grams fat, 2 g fiber, 3 g protein. It's better than a candy bar, but there is a lot of fat, and high maltose & high fructose corn syrup. Not the healthiest bar, but my kids will eat them.

I prefer the peanut flavor. The "dip" coating on the almond is too sweet for me - almost has a yogurt flavor. I've tried lots of snack/protein/granola bars for my 10-year-old to eat at school. She simply won't eat the healthy ones, so we get the peanut for a decent afternoon snack. ...more info
  • I am addicted~~~~
I never thought I would become a food " addict" but one bite and I was hooked! I cannot stop craving these bars!!!!
It is so much cheaper buying them by the case, however, it looks really strange when they get delivered!
My neighbors know I'm getting my " fix" !!!...more info
  • Not too sweet, not too salty Almond granola bars!
I enjoyed eating these almond granola bars. The mixture of the saltiness and the sweetness makes it just right. It is a very good snack for adults and kids. Even though it has its share of corn syrup and sugar, it is still a healthier snack option to have on hand instead of eating cookies or potato chips. My daughter and I especially liked the butter/yogurt coated bottom. The size of the bars is decent and I think that the price is reasonable....more info
  • Taste Great
We've been buying fiber bars from another source.
These bars don't quite measure up in terms of dietary fiber, but they are very good with a similar taste.

The Nature Valley bars are less expensive and would be great to have on hand when for when you don't have time for a real meal.
They are definately both sweet and salty.
A healthier alternative to chips or cookies.

I would purchase them for on the run or snack situations.
At 160 calories per bar, they're not too sinful and taste good. ...more info
  • Tastes good, not that healthful though
I liked the flavor of this bar a lot. The combination of salty and sweet really does work nicely. And I'm always in search of a good new healthy snack that I can take along with me... But one glance at the nutritional panel indicates that like many "granola bars" this is more like candy than health food. Very high sugar content contributes a large portion of the carbs, and low fiber content reinforces that too much of the calorie content of these are coming from simple carbs and not enough from whole grains / complex carbs. If you want something better for you look at the kashi brand granola bars for instance....more info
  • Lots of almond taste!
The prime testers of these bars are my 5 children and they all liked them a lot. Things that stood out were the coating layer on the bottom...my kids thought it tasted like yogurt and liked it a lot, but I don't think yogurt is mentioned in the packaging, other than in the ingredient list. The taste of almonds was prominent and we like almonds. The butter mentioned on the package? Didn't really notice that, but that may be because there's so much else going on in these bars taste-wise.

These are not a diet or low calorie food, but we do a lot of canoeing and these are very good and will make an excellent addition to our day packs this summer. They should be filling enough to keep us going until the next stop....more info
  • Lotsa nuts and very tasty
Nature Valley Sweet & Salty Nut Granola Bars, Almond:

On opening the wrapper you are presented with a very chunky looking granola bar. You can see whole almonds and lots oats and crisps. The bottom is coated in a white creamlike frosting., the almond butter. This is one tasty bar! It is soft to bite but very crunchy with the whole nuts. It truly does have a sweet and salty taste and it is yummy! Very enjoyable and highly recommended!! Delicious. One of the best I've tasted, especially if you enjoy almonds.

  • Delicious!!
These almond bars taste way too good to be good for you! I guess the almonds would be the good for you part! Anyway we cannot keep these in the house, I have 3 kids and they all LOVE them. This is by for the best tasting variety. I just wish Amazon offered them in the 6 box case in addition to the 12 box case. 12 boxes is a lot of bars!...more info
  • wholesome snack
I take a box of these to work with me and have them as a wholesome snack during the day. I especially like the almond flavor in the sweet and salty bars....more info
  • Nature Valley Sweet
These make a great snack. Not only are they good but they also offer some nutrition. They satisfy one's sweet tooth and you don't have to feel so guilty....more info
  • Gone in minutes ... 'nuff said
In my opinion these are the best of the sweet/salty bars on the market right now. Very chewy (in a good way) and utterly delicious!!!...more info
  • Candy Bars in Granola Bar packaging.
I really enjoy the flavor and texture of these candybars, but don't be fooled by the natural look of the product and packaging. These are all "treat" and no "snack". Nature Valley is blurring the lines between the once distinct categories of granola bars and candy bars. This product certainly falls into the latter category, but appears to be marketing itself into the first.

Ingredients include a host of flavor enhancers and sweeteners that "healthy snack bar" types might be trying to avoid.

We have 22g Carbs, 7g Fat, 3g Protien and 170mg of Sodium
"Glycemic Spike" and "Water Retention" come to mind...

    Check out these ingredients:

High Maltose Corn Syrup is the second ingredient, sugar is the 4th, High fructose corn syrup is the 5th. Also in there is wheat flakes, fructose, honey, milk products and soy lecithin. As for the good stuff, we have almonds as the first ingredient, rolled oats as the third, crisp rice as the 6th. There are other ingredients as well, surely listed in the product description here on Amazon.

One peave regarding the product packaging which states that the bar is "dipped in almond butter coating". Well, I eat almond butter (instead of peanut butter). The "coating" they refer to is more of a white "sugary milk product coating" with a little almond mixed in. It is nothing like "almond butter".

Overall, this bar packs the salty sweet flavor punch it boasts and the texture is fun. Just beware (or be aware) of all those "other" ingredients when you buy. ...more info
