Two-Phase Expression Technology
The Swing's compact size makes it easy to pump wherever you are. View larger.
The Swing features two-phase expression technology, an advanced pumping pattern that mimics a baby's natural nursing rhythm. This system works in two modes: the simulation mode and the expression mode. The simulation mode simulates your baby's initial rapid sucking to start your milk flowing, while the expression mode simulates your baby's slower, deeper suckling to express your milk gently yet efficiently. These modes work together to make pumping a quick and painless process.

- A good buy
I am a stay at home mom who wanted a good electric pump that would last, but I didn't need the full on double pump like the pump in style or similar type things as I did not need to pump every day. Most of the electric pumps that were less expensive had many reviews claiming they broke quickly, and I did not want to waste money on something that would break. This pump doesn't cost much more, and also has excellent reviews. It has worked great for me, is easy to clean and easy to use. I have not had any trouble with the flap part falling out mid pumping, so perhaps they have upgraded the product since that was an issue. It is a great mid-grade pump and at an excellent price. It was definitely worth the money for me. I've had it five months now and I've never had any trouble with it and have always been able to pump adequate amounts of milk with it. I'd recommend it to anyone who plan on only pumping once a day or less, but still wants a good electric pump. ...more info
- Arrived dented from Set 4 Baby
Warning: Don't buy products from Amazon's vendors. This one arrived dented, and the seller (set 4 baby) and Amazon refused to do anything about it. There I was trying to get ready for my baby -- due any day -- and I'm dealing with a box sent with zero padding, and a seller who told me that if I opened it, they wouldn't take it back. I sent it back, confirmed by FedEx, and they haven't credited one penny. Their policy is a 15% restocking charge, even though they caused the problem, but actually they've not refunded anything....more info
I'm so happy that I splurged and bought this. I was using a manual pump, and getting sore wrists and it took forever to do. The Swing, though a little pricier, is totally worth it! The two-phase part really works well. I was pretty dubious at first, but it's been a great help to me as I return part-time to work. ...more info
At first, I was really impressed with this product. I was using it multiple times a day when I got back to work. Then, inexplicably after 6 weeks, it stopped working. I bought a second one. 6 weeks after that, the pump lost suction. At $120+, I am unable to afford another. Due to the mediocre quality of this product, my milk is starting to go dry, as it will not provide adequate suction to maintain my supply. I bought this one from a friends recommendation--my own recommendation is to look elsewhere and try other products....more info
- I know you are not supposed to love your pump...but I do!
My baby was small (4 pounds 14 ounces) when born and was not able to nurse well. I established my supply on a rental Symphony from the hospital. When it came time to return the Symphony I debated whether to continue renting it or to purchase my own pump. The purchase price of pumps really scared me off, but I considered the Swing because it is intended for daily use, which is what I needed, but was not as pricey as the Pump In Style. I LOVE THE SWING. THe Swing is as efficient, if not more, as the SYmphony. THe fact that it is a single pump does not bother me at all because it is so efficient I am done pumping in 20 minutes - both sides. It is so lightweight and portable that you can go anywhere. After a month of being tied to the huge Symphony every three hours, it was a wonderful and welcome change to be able to go places with the pump. I am a full time working mom and currently use the Swing every day. I fully recommend this!...more info
- Mother of 3
I have been using this pump daily since mid-July. I have been very pleased with it! The only negative thing I can say is that it is not a double pump, so it takes a bit of time. GREAT PURCHASE!!! ...more info
- Great Pump!
When I first had my baby, I had the Medela Harmony manual pump. It worked okay for an occasional bottle, and was very easy to use. However, after I had appendicitis at 3 months pospartum and had to be in the hospital for several days, my milk supply went down due to the sickness, and my baby wouldn't nurse, so I had to start pumping and supplementing with formula. I now pump 3 times a day, and I love how I can do something with one hand, like check my email or feed the baby, while I hold the pump with the other hand. I am sure that a double pump would be more efficient, but I get really bad plugged ducts so I have to massage while pumping anyway, so a double pump wouldn't work for me.
The Swing pump is a really high quality pump, and so easy to use. I love how it is portable. Because I had the Medela Harmony manual pump already, I found that the pump parts for this pump and the Harmony are identical, so I have two sets of pump parts that I can sterilize and have on hand. It is fantastic! I never use the manual pump handle anymore, but because they are interchangeable, I didn't waste my money on the manual pump. I use the Gerber standard size Clear View or Fashion tints bottles that I got on sale for $1 each (they are made of polypropylene just like the medela bottles, so no BPA risk) if I need extra bottles to pump into. ...more info
- love it
It does a wonderful job. I don't have to pump every day.If I do have to pump the pump is very easy to put together and I can pump what I need in ten minutes....more info
- Great pump, one big flaw
This pump is awesome. I have used a PIS and this pumps as well if not better than the PIS Original. I bought it because I never used the double pump feature and I really liked the idea I could use my own bag, use batteries in the pump, and generally have a tiny, light pump. I am thrilled on all three. My only compliant about this pump is the power plug...it ROCKETS out of the pump with the slightest twitch. I called Medela and they insist this is a safety feature. I think it is a design flaw, personally, but it can easily be resolved with a tiny piece of tape or a steady hand. I am so happy with the pump otherwise that I'm willing to overlook this. It is POUNDS lighter than the PIS as well, which is very nice. I have it in a purse with lots of pockets and it is actually lighter than my reg purse even with all of my milk bottles, milk bags, nipples, caps, and breastshields loaded in!...more info
- I don't know if it is me or the pump...
As a stay at home mom, I didn't want to invest a lot of money into a pump to only use occasionally. At first, I couldn't get anything out, but now I am able to get a couple of ounces after 45 minutes ... which isn't great. For someone with an abundant milk supply, this might be a great pump....more info
- Finally found the best pump!
I've tried everything from a hospital breast pump system (huge! loud!) to a hand pump (useless!) and the Medela Swing is by far the best I've ever used. I'm 100% happy with it. It's highly effective, quiet, easy to use, compact and discreet. The two-phase pumping action (designed to mimic the way a baby nurses) really does help let-down and creates an effective flow without discomfort or sitting around waiting for ages. It's simple and intuitive to use, and very light and easy to transport in the sturdy draw-string bag that comes with it. I'm recommending it to all my friends....more info
- Very Pleased with Medela Swing
Bought it for my wife to replace two hand pumps, one that broke within a week and the other with very poor suction. We are very pleased with the performance. The suction is very good. The device is very quite, very portable. The breastshield is deforming with continued use so i knocked off one star. Is is a very good buy that i can recommend....more info
- It's okay.
I am not very pleased. It takes me a very long time to pump--nearly 2hrs for about 2 oz. The price was decent. It is a good thing that I am a stay at home mom now. You have to hold it to your breast very tightly to get it to do what is supposed to. Sometimes the pumping even hurts.
I am glad that my baby took to the nipples on the Medela bottles fairly well. I'm mainly just very disappointed in the time it takes to pump....more info
- great pump!
This pump is great! It does the job really well. I initially got it prior to giving birth to my son with the intention of using it scarcely, hence deciding on what I deduced from reviews was the best pump out there, and only needing a single pump. It was the best bang for the buck for my needs. As it turns out I've been pumping daily pretty much since the first month. I've had problems since the begining with my left breast/nipple while breastfeeding and I had to pump it pretty much daily. Now I actually pump daily both breasts before going to bed and store the milk for the next day. I wish I had a double pump, as it would cut my time pumping in half, but the single Swing pump works fine. It takes about 40 min to pump both breasts, and it can get pretty loud the higher you pump up the suction mode. Amazon had the best price anywhere for it, and with the $25 coupon they had sent us it was an even greater deal! I hate that the double breast pumps are so expensive, but I'm glad I can live with the single version.
On another note... I've been using the pump now for 4 mths, and the SoftFit breast shield that came with it has morphed into a "stretched-out looking" shape. I don't think it's suctioning power is as great as when I first started using it (though it still does the job fine) and I'm assuming it needs to be replaced. I know they sell them individually, so I plan to get a new one to replace it. ...more info
- Problem with Swing Pump Motor Connector
I bought a Medela Swing couple days ago. I was very excited and tried it out straight away. The motor keeps turning off by itself and I need to replug the adapter into it every time. I inspected the round motor unit and discovered that no matter how firmly I plugged the AC adapter into the motor it would fall out because the mechanism that keeps it attached to the motor was faulty. It is very frustrating to stop and restart while pumping. And it happens 2-3 times per session. Also, I find that the suction is not strong at all, in fact it is very weak. Too bad I am not able to try another Swing to justify whether this problem prevails across all the product line or it just happens on my pump. How I wished I could return it. I regret that I did not buy the Ameda Purely Yours double pump instead (because they offer a 30 days Money Back Guarantee and the price is the same). I was weary about buying a pump becuase of the prices and not being able to test them. You can only rely on reviews. I spent all waking hours I have when the babies were sleeping to read over hundreds of reviews before choosing Medela (trusted brand??).
Now I am not sure whether I bought a junk or not. I called Medela twice. First time they sent me a AC adapter which didn't solve the problem. Second time they promise to send me a replacement motor but I have to bear the cost of sending my motor back. I would be able to testify further when I receive it later. But at the back of my mind, I cannot help feeling frustrated and helpless. I felt like being punished for receiving a defective unit. As all Mom would agree with me, it is extremely cumbersome for me to drag my babies out to the post office to box and return the motor, and I hate to think that I need to fork out extra money to do so. It's like addition cost to maintain a brand new breastpump!!!!
The replacement motor arrived in the second week (UPS 2 days delivery). I noticed that again the connection comes out every time I pumped. So this is a design defect after all. This pump prohibit me to move at all because if I jerk to bend a bit to reach for the TV controller or just to hold the baby, the connection would come off by itself and thus turning the motor off!!! Also, the max suction is still very weak which is why I can manage to pump 1 oz for 20min both sides. I inspected the motor and at the back of it was stated that this pump was labelled "intermittent suction, medium vaccuum". Do not expect a powerful pump if you opt to purchase this!!!...more info
- Great pump!
After reading tons of reviews on breast pumps (which I really don't even have time to do), I'm so glad I decided on this pump. I've been using it for about a week and it works great! I tried the Avent Isis manual pump after my first child, but was never able to express much milk and it took a lot of effort. This one is easy and the manual controls are awesome. Very happy....more info

- Quiet and easy to use
I was looking for a pump because I'm planning a long car trip which I don't want to make even longer by stopping every 2 hours to feed. Other than that I only plan to use it occasionally -- enough to keep my child taking a bottle. I have the Medela Manual Electric which the hospital gave to me. I used once it once and hated it. It was slow and actually hurt because the required pump action pushes against the breast. This experience made me leary to get the manual Medela Harmony (or similar). I also thought I'd feel weird using a manual pump while fairly visible in a car.
I'm trilled with the Swing.
* It's cute and the parts are small enough to carry large handbag. The pump itself is about the size of a jumbo bagel. The breastsheild and tubing don't take up much more room. If you choose to plug it in then the cord with its wall wort are almost a large as the pump itself.
* It's extremely easy to use as the use of the 4 buttons is intuitive.
* It's quiet. My baby is a noisy eater and she's louder than the pump.
* I guess the drawback is only one breast can be pumped at a time. I found I can get 70ml in about 15 minutes, ie about the same speed as my child. However, it only takes one hand to hold the bottle/breastshield so I can use the computer at the same time. (If I pumped at a table of the right height I might be able to prop up the bottle/breastshield and have 2 hands free.)
This pump is awesome for an occasional user. I'll speculate that it would be good for someone who doesn't drive a car to work and doesn't want to lug a Pump In Style, and yet has the flexibility to allow pumping to take a little longer.
- Easy to use, very practical
I bought this to use for my second child after my first pump started to die with my first child (it was an 'occasional-use' pump that I used 24/7 for 7 months). This one is more practical than the first and is so much quieter. I love that I can carry it around the house using batteries, and that it's compact and easy to pack for traveling and at work.
The only downfall is that the power cord falls out easily, which then turns off the pump.
- Great for a part-time pump
This is a great pump, it performs very well as long as you aren't trying to pump multiple times a day while at work. I would recommend this to moms who pump occasionally, but not for commuting moms. For me, it took about 40 minutes (20 minutes/breast) to get 6-8 ounces of milk. Having to do this twice a day at work got very time consuming, so I bought the Medela Pump In Style Advanced that allows me to pump both breasts at once....more info
- Pump Stopped working
I started using the swing pump after my baby was born. The pump worked fine for the first 2 weeks. After that it's efficiency reduced dramatically, in that, it started pumping 1/4 of what it used to earlier.
I know that i'm producing normally as i frequently overflow, but the pump just does not work...
Working with customer support to see what can be done..For that kind of money this is certainly not expected.
Will send updates if any.....more info
- It don't mean a thing if it IS the Swing...
I've been lugging around my Pump-n-Style through three babies... until it finally broke. I was turned on to the Swing 'cause it's so compact - and cute - and considering baby #3 is now 10 months old, I thought the Swing would be a wise buy, because I'm only pumping a few times a week. WRONG!!! Give me back my Pump-n-Style! The Swing takes at least 3x as long - w/ the Pump-n-Style I'm able to set up, pump both breasts and put everything back in the bag w/in 10 minutes. The Swing takes AT LEAST half an hour - not good when I only get 30 minutes for a lunch break @ work.... What's worse is I just don't get as much milk with the Swing: and my breasts are engorged again much sooner. The "Advanced" option makes absolutely no difference. I'm taking back the Swing and getting another Pump-n-Style. ...more info
- Great Pump!
I have used the pump in style with my first baby. I didn't like how big and noisy it was and how many parts I needed to wash. I realized that I prefer to pump one side at the time, because pumping both simultaneously caused leaking from the other breast when nursing my baby. So I got rid of it, and now for my 2nd baby I have bought the swing. I like that it is tiny, you can strap it on you pants and be completely free to move. I use batteries so I can pump anywhere, on the couch reading a book for example. It is super quite, the noise is kind of soothing actually. Very few parts. Quick pumping, I can do 4oz in 5 minutes or so, being able to adjust the suction is a great plus. The soft breast-shield included is great. I didn't find the charger attachment to be a problem at all, it stays in place just fine. If you want a great, portable pump at a reasonable price you should get this one. I am returning to work full time soon and I am not dreading the time I will spend using this pump at all. One more thing: if you want to pump in glass bottles, the evenflo ones fit the pump....more info
- great pump
Bought for my wife, the pump works great. She was using Eveflo pump and this while not much faster is MUCH quieter. The only problem was having to buy a bigger shield to go along with it so that added to the cost but she is very happy with it....more info
- Compatible with Playtex airvent
I originally purchased the Avent Isis to use with DD because I was sure I would feel like a cow on the milk line if I used an electric pump, and I had read great reviews about the Isis. After the first two months though, I decided that the Isis was rather uncomfortable to use, and the massaging breast shield kept losing suction and leaking milk out the back, so I started researching pumps again.
I knew I wanted a Medela, but some of their pumps weigh in at 8 pounds, and I knew I didn't want anything that NEEDED to use the complimentary "stylish backpack". When I found the Swing, and read the reviews, I knew it was what I wanted. It is nearly as compact as hand pumps, but uses the same two stage action as the more expensive Medela pumps. It is comfortable to use, I've had no problems with leaking, it seems more efficient and in general I just really like this pump. You can use double A batteries to power it, which is great if you are traveling (Airport? Camping?) The best part though, came about five minute ago when I realized that the threads on the Swing match the threads on the skinny Airvent bottles that are the only ones we can get DD to use!! No more random bottles, and no more pumping in to one container and then pouring into another container to use!...more info
- Excellent Pump
I have used the Medela single electric, the swing and the Pump in Style Advanced, and a Whittlestone Breast Expresser. The Swing is the most effective of the four for me. I get more milk using it than from any of the other three. It is painless and the quietest of them all. I highly reccomend this pump. Plus it is very portable....more info

- Stay at home mom
This pump is the best for a stay at home mom. It's not overly expensive compared to some and the quality can't be beat. Ask any lactation consultant and they will tell you that Medela is the best commercial grade pump you can get. The reason I needed to get a breast pump was for occasional pumping. Because of the portable motor you can actually pump in your car, or even at the movie theatre...(if you really want to...) the point is, it's practical. You can pump and rock your baby at the same time. You can pump and use your other hand to cook. This pump is also great for relieving engorgement. ...more info
- Great pump
This is a great pump. It is lightweight, so it is convenient for when you are out and about and need to pump. It is especially useful when you are travelling by air -- it is not bulky so it can easily fit in a carry-on bag. The pump is also efficient. You can easily finish pumping one breast in five minutes or so. Although, if you are pumping at work and want to pump both breasts at the same time, Pump-In-Style may be a better pump for you. The reason I knocked off one star is because condensation always seems to collect in the tubing....more info

- Wonderful for SAHM's
I really thought this was a wonderful pump for stay at home mom's. I'm not sure how great it would be if you were exclusively pumping during the day while working, but for my periodic uses, I loved it. I usually used it on electric power, since I thought it ate through batteries pretty quickly, but when I did need to use it on battery power (like in the car) it worked well too. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I felt like it did not have quite as powerful of a suction on battery, but since I was usually plugged in, that wasn't an issue for me. I did use it while on vacation without my child for 5 days, pumping at least 6 times per day, including two 8 hour car trips, and it worked great!...more info
- I've tried a bunch... this one is GREAT
OK... so I've been told the Symphony is the Cadillac of breast pumps... but with a price tag of $[...] who can afford that?? Renting it cost $[...] a month if you can find a place to rent it.. I did and used it for a month.. I honestly was not totally impressed for the price. Then I read up on the swing this pump ALSO (like the symphony) includes the Medela 2-Phase Expression Technology - the new standard for unsurpassed naturalness, comfort and efficiency. AND after buying it.. I liked it BETTER then the symphony. Infact I think it works just about the exact same, which is crazy of Medela when the price is SO different. I have tried the Medela Pump in style as well as the Avant Isis and this one is the best.
I would highly reccommend this pump.
This pump is portable. Comes with a travel bag, runs on batteries OR you can plug it in. The pump itself is about the size of a Hardees Hamburger. The breast shield is soft and very effective, you can control the speed and it has the letdown mode as well that automatically turns on after a few minutes. The breast shield is soft and comfortable, the suction and speed is the same as the symphony, the pump is SIMPLE to use, FOUR buttons-you can't NOT figure it out easily! It is FAST and emptys your breast totally.
NEGATIVES: (I have to stretch on this one cause I love the pump) It's not quiet, I don't know why the other review says it is.. It's actually louder then I thought it should be.. but not louder then the Medela Pump in style or symphony. But just not "quiet" I don't want you thinking you are going to get something you can pump with at the front of a mini van and noone in the back is going to hear..
It's a Single Pump... I know.. DUH.. but it is a negative, if only they made a double with this size base, I'm almost tempted to buy another.
I highly reccommend this pump, as a mom of three, I've tried a lot of pumps.. I think Medela is selling this pump short saying it is like the pump in style, I think it is comparable to the symphony!
- how to get more milk
So I never made much milk, but with this pump I was able to give her about 3-5 feedings of breast milk a day up until 4 months. I especially like the huge variety of settings and soft cups. This pump helped me to build my supply, which took a really long time. I had to pump a half hour on each breast. I liked that it was a single pump because I had to milk my breast to get more milk out. It was very gentle and even though after the 2nd week of extremely sore nipples breast feeding I thought my nipples would never stop hurting, they did as soon as I went to just using the pump. My kiddo still got the milk, her daddy got to help feed her, and everyone was happy. I however had to stay up an hour after feeding her to pump... so I was pretty sleep deprived. I'm sure ladies with more milk supply will love this pump. Especially the price. I did not feel it was "a good pump for the money" I simply felt it was a good pump period. I'd buy it again. It was especially nice for when I went out for the day and didn't want to come back home to pump. I could just go to my car put sleeping baby in her car seat and sit in the back with her and pump. And on car trips I let my husband drive and I just sat in the back and pumped. Brign a cooler with you for the milk though. :-) ...more info
