Nasal irrigation will wash away the excess mucus and allergens such as pollen, dust particles, pollutants and bacteria and reduce the inflammation of the mucus membrane. A normal mucus membrane will fight infections and allergies better and thus reduce symptoms of sinus disease and allergies. A sinus is a hollow space within the bones of the face. The sinuses are lined by delicate membrane. The membrane is called mucosa. As shown in the normal anatomy picture, there are four pairs of sinuses. The function of the sinuses is to humidify and warm the air, add to the sense of smell and to play a significant role in the quality of human sound. It is well known that during acute sinusitis, rhinitis and common cold, the quality of our voice changes and the senses of smell and taste are reduced. Clean & healthy sinus and nasal passages help provide normal, clear breathing and overall good health. Non-Allergic Rhinitis is an inflammation of the lining of the nose due to bacterial & viral infection or secondary to irritants. Allergic Rhinitis is a common allergic reaction that causes inflammation of the lining in the nose with clear and thin secretions. Rhinitis is an inflammation of the mucosa (delicate lining of the inner body surfaces) of nasal passages. Sinuses make mucus and usually drain into the nasal passage through openings called the ostia. Sinusitis is an inflammation of the mucosa of various sinuses, which are located around the nasal passages. Usual symptoms include increased nasal secretions and pain or headache around the sinuses. - A few minutes a day saves you from days of suffering...
I've used this specific product for just over a year now. It was a last resort for me and a nurse had suggested it after months and years of endless problems with thick mucus that was clogging up... well, everything in its path. It wouldn't come out my nose by itself and was making me very ill, costing hundreds of dollars in doctors bills.
I was skeptical of this product, but have found it to be EXTREMELY valuable. I use it after I wake up and before bed as much as I need it. The pot itself is plastic and it's not a perfect design. There is a seam in the plastic and as some reviewers stated, it may have a slightly sharp edge, although mine certainly didn't. The top may not screw on perfectly, but mine is more than ideal and gets the job done as advertised.
Overall, it takes 3-5 minutes of my time and saves me endless days of misery and suffering. How could anyone say no to that?!! Neti pots (the ceramic kind) are ancient Indian inventions. They knew what they were doing. Stop using your nasal sprays and pills and whatever you may be using to treat SYMPTOMS of your problem and go straight to the SOURCE, which is what this does.
I've never found this to eliminate colds for me - I still get them as usual - but it most certainly DOES cut down the length of my colds from about 7-10 days down to about 3, predictably over the last year, in addition to making my sinuses clearer during the colds, which drains those germs and helps me breathe at night. Of course, because of that, it virtually eliminates sinus infections. Haven't had a single one since I began using this. I still get just as clogged up daily as I have a dust allergy, but using this twice a day prevents things from backing up and creating problems or infections, and really, that's all I ask of this product, which I see as preventing illnesses, NOT as a cure-all. Using this can be a little messy if you want it to be truly effective. Blowing air out of your nostril while water drains out helps tremendously since gravity alone doesn't always get the job done.
This is also a better product, as opposed to the Sinus Rinse Bottle (also Neilmed) because it allows you to tilt your head at the angle that is right for you, while if you tilt too much with the bottle, the water can't be reached to squirt it out. You can get this product at many stores for about $12, and boxes of 100 salt packets for $10 at some supermarkets or pharmacies. Shop around!!! Probably 3/4 of the price is for the packaging alone, and unfortunately they don't sell this stuff in bulk to save people money. I use about one box per month on average, and I find they're better and more *convenient* than most mixtures I could create at home.
I would highly recommend this product, and try it for a month to give it time to work before passing judgement. It's not for everyone, but if you truly have problems such as myself, this will ultimately be your lifesaver....more info

- I can finally breathe!
I've been seeing an allergist for 4 years for chronic sinus problems and allergies. I've been on every medication and have been getting allergy shots for a year. Especially problematic is that the sinus and allergy problems typically trigger migraine headaches. That, and the fact that every time I have a sinus infection, the Dr. wants to give me prednisone. I haven't been able to breathe since I don't know when, until now.
I bought the NetiPot about a week ago and have used it every other day. I can finally breathe. My nasal passages are clear.
As far as the spout that goes in your nose being a little large, I agree. However, you really only need to put the tip up against the inside of your nose for it to work.
When I first used it, it was a little uncomfortable with the saline--like getting chlorine in your nose at the pool. However, I find that if I breathe through my mouth, I don't have an issue.
If you've tried everything but this, I highly recommend you try the neti pot. You'll be glad you did.
Very pleased with this product. Ordered on a Monday and received on Wednesday. Easy to use....more info
- I thought Mom was CRAZY.
I laughed at my Mom when she was decribing this to me. Since I've had sinus issues for as far back as I can remember, (I won't gross you out with all the details) I gave it a try. I was amazed, I could not believe the gook that came out of my nose. I finally knew what a clear nasal passage felt like. I will recomend this item to everyone! ...more info
- A Neti a day..........
This is an item I bought out of desperation for my allergies and sinus infections. As I told others I had become so desperate that I bought a neti pot at 4am when I couldn't sleep, many told me they use one every day preventatively for allergies and cold germs. I even bought a couple as gifts for others who suffer and one for someoene who does yoga(many yoga practicers use a neti pot). Great product....more info
- NasaFlo Netipot
Product works great! I seen Dr. Oz from Oprah recommend using a Netipot, so I purchased this and it works great! My allergies are so severe that I really need to use it every day. The first time you use it, it does feel a little awkward, but after you continue to use it, there is nothing to it! I get a lot of relief from it! :)...more info
- Neti pot by NeilMed
Although the blue color is a bit off-putting (I would prefer something in a more neutral tone), the light weight plastic is a plus for easy handling. It's also easy to sense the water temperature through the plastic without having to dip my finger into the water like for the porcelain version. The shape of the spout was comfortable and effectively prevented leakage via the nostril. The package included a coupon for a free squeeze bottle; it arrived a few weeks after I mailed the coupon. I liked the product so much that I ordered one for my best friend; the inclusion of the 50 packets of salt with the pot make it a convenient introduction to using a Neti pot....more info
- Need larger nostrils than mine for the neti pot to work
It probably works fine, but I my nostrils were too small to get it to work. I went back to using a bulb syringe. ...more info

- Good product with Ok results
This is a good product. It is easy to use and very little uncomfortable (almost no pressure on your ears). If you are looking for a cleaning device for your nose, this is the one. Now, it won't help you that much if you have a severe congestion. This product does its job using gravity and does not have any pressure at all, so it won't really clean well your nose if you have heavy crust (narly!) inside.
This NetiPot has giving me a soothing feeling after I used it (using the pre-mixed packets), but it hasn't done much for my congestion, nor for my sinus symptons, so I would say it is a good product but in my case the results are just ok.
Giving my sinus condition, I truly was expecting more from this product. I am now buying the Sinus Cleansing System from NasaFlo, a much stronger device the uses pressure instead of gravity to push the water through your nasal conducts....more info
- It is plastic but works great.
I have major dust allergies. I have sneezing fits. This feels weird at first but you get used to it. You can really breathe again. It has made a huge difference. Dr. Oz recommended this and it works. ...more info
- First Neti Pot
I just got this and used it for the first time. I was surprised that the NetiPot I received was actually blue and plastic. I had thought I was getting a ceramic one. But, I have used it once so far and I actually think the plastic is a good thing because it's lightweight while you're holding it up in the air during use. It also has a lid w/ a hole which helps control flow amount.
The packets that came with it seem fine, but I'll probably just mix my own salt in after I run out. Would definitely order this one again in the future!
Also, for those of you who can't decide whether you will be able to do this, will like it, etc. I thought $12 wasn't a bad trial rate, especially since NeilMed has a satisfaction guarantee for 90 days. And, I think you'll be surprised at how pleasant it feels when you get the water temp right! ...more info
- Simple and it Works
After years of being told I could not be treated for dust allergies and suffered tremendous bouts of sneezing, I finally find a simple product that is ages old. This little pot just contains a mix of saline solution. Just mix it with lukewarm water and pour through your nostrils. My sneezing stops and I can breathe. The saline doesn't irritate my nose and I can sleep. It is so simple, I just can't believe it took this long to discover. This is a very effective and inexpensive remedy for allergies or colds. There are lots of different types of neti pots, but this one works just fine. No reason to spend a small fortune for something that works as is....more info

- It really works and is well worth a try!
Rinsing out your sinuses with saline is a rather frightening concept at first, but the relief has been amazing. As a person with chronic sinusitis and perennial, winter head colds I was at the end of my rope. I'm not the kind of person that runs to 'alternative' treatments, but on the advice of a friend decided to try out a Neti Pot.
The results were surprising. I can't say that the saline rinse does away completely with the need for decongestants/antihistamines, but using this twice to three times a day has meant that I no longer require these medications on a daily basis and has given me freer nasal passages.
The concept is simple, really. You basically rinse out your sinuses with warm saline. You can either use the 'normal' saline or 'hypertonic' saline packets to do this--in my experience there has been little difference between the two. (If you buy the regular packets, you simply mix two packets with 8 ounces of water to make the hypertonic solution.) The saline soothes the membranes of your sinuses, washes away mucous and allergens. The result, at least for me, has been a marked decrease in congestion. This is both an immediate effect and--surprisingly--lasts for hours after using the Neti Pot. I can now breathe normally without taking medicines.
The kit comes with a plastic Neti Pot, 50 saline packets, and instructions. You do have to get over the initial 'yuck' factor of pouring the saline into one nostril and having it come out the other. The first few times I used the neti pot, it did feel odd and there were a few chokes and sputters. But, boy, is it worth it.
The price at first seemed a little steep to me, until I realized that it is far cheaper on a day-to-day basis than taking even store brand decongestants and antihistamines. If you were clever, you could probably find a recipe for the saline solution, but the packets are incredibly convenient to use and (once again) inexpensive. It is nice to have premeasured amount of powder to mix, and when you run out of packets you can buy the packets separately (100 per box). It would be nice if they had made an 8 ounce line on the Neti Pot to show where to fill it to, but once you get used to using it, it is easy to eyeball this.
I am not against using decongestants. I am not anti-physician or anti-medication. What I can say, is that antihistamines and decongestants work, but they do have side effects that are bothersome. And I'd rather avoid medications where possible. If you are into the medical side of things, there is good research to show that this kind of sinus cleansing improves symptoms.
It is simple, straight forward, and--by gosh--IT WORKS! And it works far better than I ever thought it could.
So if you are a sufferer from chronic sinusitis, seasonal allergies, or colds, this is well worth a try.
- I Can Breathe!
I bought this originally for a seasonal allergy problem. It was uncomfortable to use at first, but now that I have a little more practice I have no problem at all. Before taking medication for painful sinuses, I tried this first. It worked! No more sinus pain or runny nose/clogged nose problems. ...more info
- Just wish it was bigger
Don't get me wrong, it works great like the other folks here testify. Just wish it was bigger than 8 oz. Sometimes I need to do multiple flushes with this little Neti to clear out my nasal passages. It also comes with little packets (salt and baking soda mixture) that are great for travel. But at home try mixing your own using 1/4 tsp of salt and 1/4 tsp of baking soda per 8 oz water....more info
- I almost cut my nostril!!!!
The pot is made of plastic, obviously molded. Not a big deal, but they left a rough edge on the part that goes in your nose (the spout)!!! I scratched the inside of my nose a little bit, and feel lucky that it wasn't worse. Using the neti pot has helped my allergies a lot.
I ended up taking a nailfile to it to smooth it out and it worked. Thank goodness, because I wasn't about to send it back, since the shipping costs were MORE than the actual product. Ridiculous when you realize that it's plastic and LIGHT. It couldn't have cost more than $3 to ship, yet for some reason it was more like $13. This is the ripoff part of shopping Amazon....more info
- Great products .. no complaints what so ever
Im not sure what some are talking about this think closes tight and doesnt atleast cut my nose. I havent noticed any sharp ends. It works perfectly and for its much better than ceramic since it cant break....more info
- So-So feelings about this product
There is nothing wrong with the product and I actually like the little packets of salt rather than guesstimating daily. I find using a full packet is way way to much salt for me.
Anyway - the whole thing is quite a mess (just a wet mess, not gross or anything) as my severely deviated septum and larger than average (broken in college) nose create an unavoidable dripping down/sideways/even kinda up .... with a saline solution that make me want to completely wash my face after each use.
Disappointed personally to not have received but benefit from the whole nasal irrigation (not the products fault) but it seems a good idea to try.
FINALLY - I couldn't help but realize (as I waited for mine to arrive) that a single serving Hotel-Style coffee/tea pot with a spout similar to the one on the box cover would do the exact same job as well ... if not perhaps even better. The plastic is very thin and flimsy, but it is ok. It just seems a more durable and sold mini tea pot would be easier and less heavy .... AND PROBABLY A LOT LESS EXPENSIVE (that was not a gripe about the price of this product. It was fine and very competitive ... I've just seen little pots for like $2-3 at IKEA or Import Store....more info
- Works good for me
So far so good. I am anxious to see how this will help my migraines in the fall....more info
I bought this product from my local supermarket Kroger. I have suffered for years and years from allergies, and chronic sinus infections- usually 5 or 6 a year. Every time I fly I just expect to end up at the doctors for antibiotics. I started using the NeilMed NasaFlo about 2 weeks ago, along with Oreganol and Quercetin tablets, and have experienced an amazing difference. Even with two 4 hour flights during this time, I have suffered only a little congestion and discomfort, which eased after a short time with the help of these products. Worth every penny. I dont even mind the sensation in my nose, as I know its helping me. Definitely worth trying....more info
