Customer Reviews:
  • Nice unit, good cooling
Favorite thing is the price especially for a stainless steel product. The cooling ability is also rather impressive. I put it in my study/guest room which is about 225 or so squarefeet on a a hot summer evening, I would say 87F. and shortwhile later I was feeling extremely comfortable. It a slightly loud when on highspeed and is a awkward to lift vertically but other than that I am liking it plenty. ...more info
  • Do not purchase this unit!
I purchased this unit March 2008 in anticipation for a sweltering summer. I had read good things about this AC online. My condo has sliding windows so a window AC was not an option and I liked the sleek stainless look the Whynter SNO had. Upon its arrival, I made the mistake of running the AC for a mere 20 minutes to test it. At the first installation a bracket on the terminal end for the exhaust pipe broke off. I did not contact Whynter because the other three brackets were still intact and I could connect the exhaust pipe to the unit with no visible gaps. I followed the suggestions in the Owner's Manual for storage and put it in my closet for a couple months until summer.

Summer arrives and I attempt to use the unit twice, but the water fills up within 2 hours of use each time and it does not provide much cooling. Then, the unit leaks, flooding my floor. The exhaust pipe no longer is allowing for ventilation and two more pieces break off of the terminal end as well as the drain port plug and cap were break.

For a price of over $300.00, one would think Whynter would use more quality materials. Upon contacting Whynter they refused to take responsibility for the flooding and offered to send replacement parts to me in the mail, but that shipping costs would be MY responsibility. So now I am out $319.00, have a damaged wood floor and have been suffering through 105 degree summer heat. Thanks Whynter....more info
  • This is awesome
I work from home and have a small server room next to my study. It get extremely warm especially during the summer and the central A/C can seem to handle the heat output of the various devices. So I decided to follow advice I got from a buddy about getting additional cooling power with this Whynter portable air conditioner. First impressions was that it had a nice appeal to it with the stainless steel and "desktop" like shape. It read over the manual briefly and proceeded to get it going. Everything was fairly straightforward. My thermostat showed about 82F just before using the unit and after turning it on it climbed to about 83F for a few minutes before steadily dropping a couple of degrees ever 5-10 mins. All in all it took about 30 mins to get the area down to about 68F. The overal area of the study is about 120 Sqft, but I left the door to my server room open which added about 100Sqft of open area. The temp. in the server room was about 70F which was just fine. I've been running it about 6-8 hrs a day and the one little complaint is that it gets kinda loud when the compressor activates and the fan is on high. I otherwise extremely satisfied with this item. By the way, the remote is a real help, but keep it in a safe place cos it's quite small and easy to misplace....more info
  • Just what we need
Delivery was very expedient and the item arrived well packaged. This was certainly an very reasonably priced item considering that is it stainless steel and not plastic. We live in hot and humid South FL and an A/C is quite essential to have. This unit comes with a full set of accessories which was a plus as I had purchased an one several years ago that did not. It is quite nicely designed and the stainless steel looks great compared to those with the standard cream colored plastic housing. I setup the a/c in our master bedroom which is approximatley 200 sqft large. Setup was quite simple and even someone as technically incompetent as myself was able to get it all done in less that 15 mins. Turned it on and could immediately feel to cool air. I left the room and returned about 20 mins later and could feel that it was significantly cooler than before. The temperature in the room was probably around 80 before I turned it on and it felt like a comfortable 70 when I returned. We've been using it quite often for almost a week now, and I am very pleased with the performance and reliability. I may get one for my son in the near future....more info
  • Don't waste your money
We bought this air conditioner last year. Our apartment is on the 2nd floor and live in southern California without air conditioner it's a real pain. First, there is a lot of water coming out from unit. It's incapable to get rid of it by itself through the window, well, we managed to put a big canister. In a hot date it's full in 4 hours! We should really be careful not to leave this unit alone. But the worst is that it's really not cooling our room. Even if it's on 64F! You can feel a cold air when you close to unit, but step out - nothing. We thought it wasn't a good unit, and we changed to another one, but it did the same way. Unfortunately, we could return because of seller policy. If you need something to stay cool, don't waste your money on this one. Better buy a window unit!...more info
