About Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

73 years young and still on a schwinn I had my first schwinn when I was 7 0r 8 years old and got a lot of good use from it. I as recently as 5 years ago was riding up to 5000 miles a year on a regular bike. I then bought a highly recommended indoor recumbent bike that never felt right and really was not worth much of anything. I have had this schwinn 130 upright bike for about 3 weeks now and have put more than 300 miles on it with no problems whatsoever. It is very solid along with a good road feel. It is so super quiet that my wife lets me ride it in our living room. It has many adjustments and that is a plus as all of us have our own confort level on a bike. This is important if you are going to ride a lot. This bike is a steal at Amazon for less than $400 delivered! Ron from West Linn, Oregon...more info
Great product at a great price Upon arrival the packaging did not inspire much confidence. But all parts were complete and in good shape. The installation instructions along with the provided tools were outstanding, among the best I have ever seen. The operation is very quiet, the bike is stable, and the seat is quite comfortable. Just one little nit. The manufacturer should ditch the "great job" mantra at the end of every workout; we are not little leaguers.
Would Be 5 Stars BUT.... As other buyers have noted an outer panel of the bicycle was cracked upon arrival. The shipping box was in excellent shape and came fast (with Amazon's free shipping the bike was here in 2 days). I contacted Nautilus customer service and recvd a replacement panel about a week later. The bike was still usable despite the panel which is really more of a cosmetic issue rather than functional issue. I attribute this to poor QC if this semes to happen so often, hence the 4 star review. The customer service rep I spoke with seemed to be very familar with this issue. Otherwise out of the box the bike was easy to put together in about 30-45 minutes.
I have had the bike for about a month now and average approx 100 miles per week on it and have not yet heard an abnormal sound from the bike as others have mentioned. I will ride for 90 minutes at a time and i dont hear a thing, the resistance speeds and all of the programs work well as advertised too.
I did some research before this purchase and I would advise others too as well, go to sporting good stores and try out a few bikes first and check prices, not every bike is right for every user. Seems like this price Amazon had this bike at was the best and the free shipping could not be beat. ...more info
Schwinn 130 upright I tried several bikes and decided on this one because of the programs and it was quiet. The box we got was very tore up. There was no paperwork with the bike. We got the bike assembled and it is still very quiet, however that is because I rarely use it. I have tried numerous adjustments and my knees or hips crack because I cannot get it adjusted correctly. The seat is either too high or too low. I have never had an issue with cracking of the knees or hips. I had my husband try it and his knees also crack, regardless of the seat adjustment. There is something very wrong with this design....more info
Good product but broken on delivery, also display is NOT backlit This is a great product, but poorly packaged for shipping. Both shrouds arrived broken. I had difficulty reaching customer service because of busy lines; however they promptly replaced the damaged parts when I finally reached them. To replace the damaged shrouds, I needed a special tool (a crank puller) which costs about $15. Fortunately I had a biker friend who loaned me the tool. The exercise bike, now functioning, is very smooth and one of the best products out there for the money. However, contrary to Amazon's product description the Display is NOT backlit, making it unreadable without bright overhead lights. Consider instead the Schwinn 131 which has a great backlit display, white on blue, making the bike useable in any lighting situation. For me this turns out to be a big deal. Amazon has been informed but the product description is still unchanged, so buyer beware.
Great bike, great price I purchased this bike last October and used it 3-5 days a week all winter as part of my conditioning for the summer bike riding season; I also use it on rainy days when I can't get out on the road. Although I was concerned by comments about the condition of the packaging, mine arrived in great condition. All of the part were included. I assembled it in around an hour (I'm female, 5'4").
The bike is exceptionally smooth and quiet. I really love the small footprint. It is also very sturdy. No problems there. I've used both the manual and the preprogrammed workout modes, and have received an exceptional workout regardless of which mode I use.
The only problem that I have had is that the seat slips sometimes. It's fairly easy to adjust, and I consider this to be a minor nuisance.
I'm not sure about the accuracy of the heartrate monitor. At times there seems to be some variability and slowness to register. I did recently purchase a Polar heartrate monitor since I want to be able to track my heartrate across a variety of activities. I'll have a better point of comparison then.
However, for the price, you can't beat this bike. I've been using it for 8 months now, and it has performed extremely well. It was fun to get out on the bike paths again for the first time with a friend who had not been spending much time conditioning during the winter months. She huffed and puffed her way through a five mile ride. I was ready for another go at it thanks the the winter conditioning routine that I had put in using this bike.
Great Bike I bought this bike as a replacement to a Reebok exercise bike that I own that never worked properly. The bike was fairly easy to put together, a few of the screws were tough to reach, but other than that, I had it done in less than an hour. I was surprised to see how sturdy the bike was after reading some of the reviews on here about how cheaply made it was. I thought it felt sturdy and solidly constructed.
I haven't had much time yet to use the bike as I have just finished putting it together, but from what I have seen so far, it looks like a great product. The resistance levels have a good range between them, from easy to hard, there are several different exercise programs, and the heart rate monitor seems pretty accurate. My only complaint with this bike is the seat. I cannot seem to adjust it to get it "just right." Other than that, you are getting a lot of bike for your money....more info
Very Good Stationary Bike for the Money This upright stationary bike is very well-designed. Assembly is straightforward, although instructions could be clearer with more and better-quality illustrations or photographs of correctly assembled steps. You do not want to rush the assembly process. In a few instances, it would be fairly easy to shear a computer wire if one were not very cautious in studying assembly directions. The bike comes with all the needed tools and a great system for identifying parts. One minor complaint I have is that the shrouds (plastic sides, which come already assembled) were not accurately aligned in the back of mine. This defect was purely cosmetic and did not affect performance, and I was able to fix it in about twenty minutes as I completed the other assembly work. Apart from the plastic sides, the bike feels very sturdy and solid, is amazingly quite and smooth, and is thoughtfully designed to allow the user to adjust almost any component (seat, handlebars, console position) that affects comfort or efficiency. The interface is not immediately intuitive, takes time to get used to, and the "buttons" that select program features do not always activate on the first press. The built-in exercise programs or "profiles" are fun to experiment with, but be prepared to do a good bit of manual reading before understanding and enjoying all of those features. (You could select "Quick Start" on the console and do your own thing, but you should try some of the other program features eventually.) I find the seat somewhat uncomfortable for long sessions, but again, almost anything on the machine can be tweaked or adjusted until one finds a satisfactory solution or compromise, and installing a more comfortable seat is easy enough to do if needed. Ultimately, there is a lot to like about this model, which represents a very attractive, just right-sized machine that feels solid (except for the plastic shroud) and operates smoothly and quietly. In this price range, the balancing act between dollars and features and quality of construction and durability means you should shop carefully before you buy. The Schwinn 130 looks like (and functions as) a winner in this price category....more info
Great deal for the money! Like others have stated, the packaging isn't great. Mine arrived in good condition nonetheless.
I've had mine over a month now and I'm very satisfied with the functionality and smooth, quiet operation.
I would recommend trying to find a wider, more cushioned seat. I found a suitable replacement at Wal Mart and it's much better....more info
Poor packing on the computer of this Bike When this bike was delivered and put together as instructed, not only was the bottle holder broken and unusable, but the computer did not work. When inspecting the packaging, we notice the computer was packed in a box that was flimsy and not protected by foam, the only protection was the cardboard carton and that was quite dented. The bike was covered by Styrofoam, why not the computer?
A great deal of time was spent assembling this to discover at the last minute there was no workable computer. When I called, rather then just send a new computer, we had to dismantle the bike, pack it up, and wait for it to be picked up. Of course by that time, Amazon was out of the bike and we had to wait for a new one to be sent.
When the new bike came, we noted the computer still had little protection from possible shipping mishaps, but this one does work.
The bike is nice, though a little hard to mount with ease. The programming instructions are easy to understand.
I would have rated this bike 4 1/2 stars, if it hadn't been for all the work of assembling it, taking it down, waiting for a new one etc. When all that was needed to make this right, was to simply ship a new computer in exchange for the old one.
sturdy This is a sturdy product -- works well, seat adjusts easily, silent operation. Only complaint: it always gives the message "great job" regardless of how long or hard you've been pedaling. That's kind of silly....more info
Best Bike! I bought this bike about 3 months ago and try to ride it 5 out of 7 days. It is completely user friendly and quiet. I like that the seat is adjustable and the different workouts and levels of resistance. I am already feeling the benefits of using it and consider it to be one of the best investments in my personal health. ...more info
So far so good. This bike is everything I expected.Easy to assemble. Well made.Gives you a good workout.Very quiet. Also it was recived in good shape. Thanks....more info
excellent value, dead quiet Despite reviews by others knocking this product I found it, at its price point and product class (upright exercise bike), to be a great value: solidly made, no sway, as quiet as a leaf dropping in the forest (though the adjustment to different resistance levels creates a few seconds of low frequency hum which might disturb a very light sleeper three feet away), easily adjusted to various user's hight, and quite easy to assemble with the tools provided (though two adjustable open ended wrenches or equivalent sure help in tightening the seat to a comfortable angle). The plastic casing of the lower part of the bike is only adequate--I would not recommend kicking it or jumping on it--but with reasonable care it should be fine. The comfort or lack thereof of the seat will vary by user preference, but it is easily and cheaply remedied by using any other style of standard bike seat or gel-type seat pad. The packaging is neither confidence inspiring nor eco-friendly--if the box is damaged check the computer console and plastic base, the rest is pretty impervious to breakage. Therefore, buying locally at a competitive price is an option to be considered for the faint-of-heart. Schwinn 126 sold by Sports Authority is essentially a re-branded twin of the 130, their price on this date is $50 higher. Sears and Dick's may have discount coupons. ...more info
Like to ride a bike? If you like to ride a bike and enjoy regular exercise, buy this exercise bike. I exercise daily and have used a treadmill for 3 or 4 years. I bought this bike to give me some variety and I have ended up using it exclusively! I have ridden it daily for the last 3 weeks and love it. It is quiet, comfortable and rides almost exactly like a bicycle. And the price is great too....more info
GOOD, BUT NOT GREAT There are a lot of 5-stars reviews for the schwinn 130. I think that's a bit misleading since it's good but not great. I'd read the reviews for the 131 to see some criticisms.
Things I Like:
1) Almost silent - there was a creaking noise, but that was fixed by loosening one of the screws in the base)
2) Smooth peddling.
3) Relatively compact footprint - doesn't take much space.
4) Book/magazine holder made from metal - strong enough to put my laptop in it while riding.
Things I Disliked: (these cons are in comparison to a DiamondBack (DB) upright bike that I saw in an equipment store. It was similar in price.)
1) Schwinn console/display not easy to use. If you compare to the DB bike, the DB console is easier to read, and quicker to program, and has more programming options. This is a serious drawback for the Schwinn. To me the console is an essential part of the bike. It helps you keep pace (for a good workout) and keeps the workout interesting (so you comeback again). A poor console diminishes the experience when you get annoyed with it.
2) the handlebars are not as adjustable as the DB. Schwinn 130 handlebars can go closer or farther. DB handlebars can be adjusted up/down and closer/farther and tilted more or less.
Great Bike bad packing materials Great solid bike that is silent, as far as the bike goes more than I expected. It is soundless no clicking noises smooth operation. My opinion is the people that have clicking choppy bikes are either damaged or assembled wrong somehow. I was expecting some noise but I can't hear anything at all except a very slight motor noise on tension changes. I bought the bike to ride while I watch movies and this has worked out great.
I was 6' 240lbs when I bought this bike I have long legs and I clear the handle bars at any adjustment setting. anyone having clearance issues have giraffe legs, the handle bars and the seat both adjust towards and away from each other along with the seat height adjustment. I'm down to 220lbs now but the bike was solid and sturdy for me at 240lbs no side to side movement at all. I'm guessing people having balance issues ride like the person in this video or haven't tightened the fasteners. [...].
Seat seems hard but being as big as I am I not going to complain about it If it's still uncomfortable under 200lbs I'll just change it out, seat mount has a standard bike seat post so any bicycle seat will fit it.
About SHIPPING WOW cheapest cardboard I have ever seen along with Styrofoam as solid as a cotton ball. Box was severely mutilated with about 3" of one corner completely missing. Cardboard is so weak you can poke your finger through anywhere you choose. All the styrofoam inside was broken into baseball sized pieces or smaller. I figured there was no way the bike would work and I'd be doing the return dance. Only damage in the end was to a slight break in the joints of the main plastic cover. Everything else wasn't touched.
Conclusion: I love the bike, Silent, solid if you tighten the fasteners completely and ride like a normal person. I gave 4 stars only because of the packaging Schwinn really needs to look into the quality of the materials. ...more info
the best Recently I read in Consumer Report that this bicycle was the best buy for the money. I was very, very pleased with this product. It is totally quiet, efficient easy to move and the panel is easy to operate. It is very helpful to have two people to assemble this bicycle but beside that I am happy with this purchase.
Great Exercise Bike Very happy with this unit. I read many of the reviews and was a little worried about what I was buying. While the box it was shipped in was a little banged up, everything was there and in good working order. This unit was replacing my Life Fitness cycle and I found the Schwinn to be quieter as well as having a smoother and more uniform rotation while pedaling. Only thing to watch out for is the height of the handle bars. I am six feet tall and my knees just fit under them. If I was any taller I think there might have been a problem....more info
Day 1: Bike Already Broken I want to confirm what other reviewers have stated that after 20 minutes of riding this bicycle, it began making knocking clunking sounds.
This is incredibly disappointing. I bought this bike based on a consumer reports review and reviews here in Amazon. Don't be fooled. Don't buy this poorly made exercise bicycle....more info
