Tersano Lotus Sanitizing System / 120 - Tersano LOT-LBU100

The lotus system safely removes bacteria, viruses, and pesticides from food.

It also sanitizes children's toys, teethers, and pacifiers with ease.

Tap water treated with the lotus system cleans and sanitizes kitchens, bathrooms, and other high-risk surfaces and locations without harsh chemicals, fumes, or residue.
Live Chemical Free with the lotus Sanitizing System

Take a step towards healthier living! This amazing Sanitizing System from Tersano lets you turn on your faucet and treat your home to an effective sanitizer that safely wipes out germs, odors, stains, mold, mildew and pesticides -- all without chemicals.

When you use lotus, you turn ordinary tap water into the world's most powerful sanitizer in about two minutes, for a fraction of a penny. Studies have shown that ozone is 50-percent more powerful and more than 3,000 times faster acting on bacteria than chlorine -- at 100 times the strength. Water treated with this system will kill 99.9 percent of germs on any surface it contacts.

Use the lotus to clean countertops, appliances, floors, high chairs and other baby items, upholstery, windows, cutting boards, and any surface that attracts mold or mildew. Even carpet and laundry stains -- including red wine and pet stains -- are easy to remove, with no harsh fumes or residue. Lotus also eliminates germs and pesticides from your food. It even extends the shelf life of fruit and produce up to four times longer than if they've been rinsed with tap water.

The lotus system can even be used to freshen and deodorize pet areas, or other potentially smelly places.
How It Works

The system has two main purposes: (1). to disinfect surfaces and (2). to remove pesticides and kill germs on food. It does this using ordinary tap water.

The lotus patented Oxyshield technology infuses cold tap water with an extra oxygen atom, creating a natural sanitizer. By passing air through 4,500 volts of electricity, the lotus system splits oxygen molecules into atoms and forces this extra atom to combine and form super-oxygen, or ozone. The third oxygen atom becomes the sanitizing agent, a natural oxidant -- which kills bacteria and viruses, and neutralizes pesticides.

Using the lotus spray bottle, it takes about two to three minutes to turn tap water into antibacterial lotus water with 100-percent potential (this is indicated on the unit); and then it remains fully effective for about 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, the contents begin to revert to plain water. A countdown timer on the unit tells you when it's time to reload and recharge.

Once the tap water reaches its fully transformed potential (in about five minutes, if you're using the bowl), maximum bacteria and pesticide reduction is achieved after two minutes of soaking. That same helpful countdown timer tells you when your food is completely sanitized and cleansed of pesticide residues.

The lotus Sanitizing System was recognized as one of the Best Inventions of 2006 by Time Magazine. It was also recognized by Donny Deutsch as The Big Idea of the Month.

Customer Reviews:

  • Easy & Great Clean up.
Being a person that likes to eat "the dirty dozen"...strawberries, apples, etc, I have learned that even store bought organic isn't as safe as we are led to believe. This product is simple to use. I just put in a batch of grapes and the indicator told me (F1) that I had to run it through 2 more times to make them safe to eat. Tersano, the Lotus manufacturer, states that if you get (F1) and rinse 3 times, the product will be safe to eat. (Even if you get the f1 after the 3rd time.) How do I know? The customer service people really take the time to explain the machine and you can ask a lot of questions.

Also, with the food incidents that we keep hearing about with lettuce, spinach etc. why risk it?

I use the sanitizer water to clean the kitchen, bathroom, door handles and light switches.

Additionally, I found the company representatives very helpful at providing guidance and product information. They were quick (at not cost) to replace a faulty unit and sent it to me with a shipping label. All I had to do was pop my other one in the box and UPS picked it up.

If this was "junk" of a "scam" I doubt that TIME MAGAZINE would have listed it as a "best investions 2006." That is for the reader to decide.

  • Solid
Before buying this thing I did my research and came away skeptical. I was not sure it was worth the money, especially after reading what Consumer Reports had to say about it. I waited a bit but then figured I would give it a shot.

I am very, very happy that I did.

Its been about a three months now and I have to say that the unit does its job and does it exceedingly well. I had two problems but each were due to my inexperience with the machine- and both were quickly resolved by some really good tech support people at Tersano. They tell you how to fix the problem and then go further to explain how the machine works and why the issue occurred in the first place.

You simply can't do better if you want clean food. I have done some interesting experiments- your fruit and vegatables will last longer and fish will taste better. I kid you not- this thing really works. When I come home from shopping I stick in my veggies and fruit, if they are really dirty I have to do them twice. You have to remember, the machine's goal is clean food. If you give it real dirty stuff it will keep "scrubbing" away till it is ready to eat. At first I was annoyed that I had to perform a cycle twice. Then I got to thinking about how dirty the stuff actually was. I changed the water and let it start up again.

Sometimes I run the machine with just the tap water in there. Once it is pure (100%) I'll stick in raw meats, fish or shrimp before cooking it- takes two minutes. The difference will REALLY surprise you- and it isn't just taste but the way your body digest the food that you will notice.

As for expandable parts... I use mine just about everyday and have yet to replace the cartridge in the back. It comes with this little spary bottle and towels which I use occassionally but not that much so I can't lend much of an opinion. It does make my trash compactor smell better though.

All in all I am 100% satisfied with this product and feel that it was worth the money I spent on it....more info
  • Wow I simply cannot believe this!
Seriously, this shld be at the top of every persons Christmas list! I ordered the Lotus Sanitizing System thinking I'd try but not expecting huge results... WOW I'm AMAZED! I shld have taken before and after pics! My 2 y/o's little chair was stained sooo bad and I had tried several different cleaners to no avail- stains included crayons, juice, water spots, etc into this chair- I was a bit miffed b/c it was a pretty expensive little piece of furniture. Well I sprayed on the ozonated water and wiped it off and the chair looks brand spankin new! It also took off a spot on my couch that I was going to call the manufacturer about and have the couch replaced (it has the scotchguard but still stained). I'm just in shock- it's simply amazing! This thing will save me tons of $ on cleaning supplies and replacing rugs, upholstery, etc. I have yet to try it on food but we will this week. You seriously have gotta see this thing clean something- for us it will pay for itself by a year easily. Plus you don't have to worry about the kiddos, or you, touching chemicals b/c it turns back into water after 15 minutes. For anyone with young children this is a must have....more info
  • Love This Machine!!!
In trying to incorporate more raw foods into my diet, I was looking for a way to get rid of pesticides and bacteria from so much produce, preferably one that wouldn't take up too much of my time. I have been amazed by the Lotus' mold-eliminating potential on items like strawberries. I also noticed that pouring the charged water out of the large bowl and into the sink eliminated the skanky smells that had previously formed in the drain.

Because I don't trust the ingredients in Febreze and many other commercial products, I started using the Lotus to spray down the areas where my cat tends to sit. When I want to disinfect kitchen and bath sinks, and even the caulk around my bathtub (which was starting to turn a little dark in the corners), I fill the sprayer bottle with filtered water first so that there is no mineral buildup.

My latest discovery is in using the charged water to keep mold from forming in my little sprouting experiments. For example, some of my sprouted wheat grass started to smell moldy (after sprouting, before planting), which is a common occurrence with large sprouted seeds, but one brief soak in the O3 fixed that, and the wheat grass turned out to be some of the most vibrant I've ever grown. I water my plants with the O3 water all the time now - they really seem to be thriving, and best of all, my mold allergies are spared these toxins.

While I heartily recommend that everyone have one of these in the kitchen, don't be afraid to use it all over the house and yard (Mother Nature is already using it out there, right?).

  • Need to work the bugs out
The idea of this product is great. And it does a fine job of sanitizing plain water. However I could never get it to finish a cycle when trying to sanitize foods. And the claims of cleaning are a bit of a hype. Sanitizing is about all the water can do. It did not clean mildew, soap scum or even plain old dirt off of anything. And if it takes so many trys to get the product to work how is this helping in reducing costs associated with wasting electricity. I sent mine back. They should have worked a little harder on getting the bugs out before introducting this to the public....more info
  • POS
Talk about a lot of BS...this product does nothing they say it does. You are lead to believe you get this super powerful cleaning solution, you get water. Talk about snake oil! All that happens is the water swirles around and you get some bubbles. And when you spray this so called " super powerful" water on any stain, or grease, or anything else, it acts....well like water. Also the spray bottle is a piece of junk, it really does not "spray" the water out, it dribbles it out. I have never been so disappointed in a product....I had to write this review to tell people to save their money. ...more info
  • Seeing is believing
Since most of us cannot see if the Lotus Sanitizer really eliminates bacteria or bad chemicals, we can see how it works on stains and dirt.
I use mine frequently on my BBQ Grill. It loosens the burnt-on, charred grease and meat and leaves the grill shiny and clean after an easy scrubbing and wipe-down. This has never worked with plain water and only does work with lots of detergent and wire brushes. But the Lotus system elimnates all of that. The fact that the greasy, burned residue disappears makes me more comfortable with putting more food on the grill.

The second in-home demo is that we use it often to remove red wine or tomato sauce stains spilled on white tablecloths or clothing. It works like nothing else. With a little spraying and rubbing, the red wine or tomato sauce stain disappears and after drying there is not a trace.

I even used mine to remove some disgusting bird droppings on my car. Nothing else seemed to work on removing hardened droppings unitl I sprayed it with the Lotus By Tersano.

Without a microscope I cannot prove that the chemicals and bacteria are gone, but I sprayed and the visual evidence disappeared....more info
  • Good concept, but fail within 24hrs
I didn't know it is sold by Sharper image until couple hours earlier when i was trying to search the web for my F1 issues. I will try to contact the customer support tomorrow to see if there is any solution, but if I'm reading all the "real" review carefully, this is a very troubled product. Man I threw away the boxes already, and I'm not sure how Tersano handles RMA... I will report back and let you know their customer service. Btw i bought the unit directly from the website which is cheaper at the moment... I hoped i didn't get one of those returned unit......more info
  • A wonderful product
I am a physician and a homemaker. I am always looking for safe, effective, easy ways to clean. This product has been the answer for me in the following ways:

1.) Washing fruits and vegetables. Now I am finally following Rachel Ray's advice to wash everything when I bring it home from the grocery store. I pile in as much as the bowl (included with the system) will hold and rinse it briefly under the faucet to remove loose dirt. Then I fill the bowl with cool tap water and place it on the base. As I write this, I am processing 5 avocados, 4 tomatoes, and 2 peaches in the bowl. The cleaning cycle takes about 4 minutes, then you leave the produce in the water for another two minutes. The base unit counts down the time so you know when you're done. Finally, I use the bowl's lid, which has a built-in strainer, to drain the bowl.

There are a number of advantages to this method of washing produce. For me, the most important one is that I know that the produce is truly clean when the final beeper goes off. In the past I was never sure when I could stop rinsing my produce. This method is also a time-saver, since I can wash quite a bit of produce in each batch, and I can do other things while it is processing. Washing the produce when I bring it home from the store also makes it last longer, because the bacteria which cause decay are destroyed. Additionally, when I drain the water from the bowl into my sink, the super-oxygenated water helps to sanitize the sink. Finally, I don't have to wash the bowl, because it is sanitized with each use.

2.) Sanitizing my kids' orthodontic retainers, and the family's various toothbrushes, nail clippers, nail files, etc. I use the bowl for this. I wish I had had this when my kids were babies, because according to the instruction book it can be used to sanitize pacifiers, baby toys, and other baby paraphernalia.

3.) Sanitizing my kids' shower shoes and gear when they get back from camp or a field trip. I use the spray bottle, which is included with the system, for this. First I rinse the gear in my utility sink or with the hose outside. Then I fill the spray bottle with cool tap water. I place the bottle on the base, and start the processing cycle which takes about 2 minutes. Then you have 15 minutes to use the super-oxygenated water, after which it starts to break down into oxygen and water. The base unit counts down the 15 minutes, so you know when your time is up. I spray everything and let it dry in the sun.

There are several advantages to this method of sanitizing gear over my old way of using bleach and other cleaners. First, it is extremely effective. Second, there is no residue left on the gear (again, the super-oxygenated water breaks down into oxygen and water), so there is no rinsing. And third, I do not have to wear gloves.

4.) Cleaning my refrigerator inside and out. I use the spray bottle for this. I especially love the fact that no residue is left in the refrigerator, and there is no odd cleaning-product smell either.

5.) Kitchen countertops, sink, and cabinets. I have an under-mounted sink, and the thought of all the bacteria growing in the space between the countertop and the sink used to really bother me. In the past, I would fill my sink with hot water and bleach, but now I use the spray bottle. It is quick and easy, requires no rinsing, and there is no bleach smell or concern about getting bleach on my clothes. Plus there is a strong environmental benefit to avoiding bleach and the plastic bottles that bleach comes in.

6.) Bathrooms. In the past I used cleaning products that smelled terrible and that warn you to only use them in a well-ventilated area. It made bathroom-cleaning a dreaded chore. Now I use the spray bottle, and the job is quick and easy. I live in Florida, where mold and mildew are a big problem in the bathroom. We have had a particular problem with mildew growing in the toilet tanks (up where the flush mechanism is). This has been difficult to keep under control in the past, because bleach damages the rubber portions of the flush mechanism. The super-oxygenated water has not caused any damage, but has been extremely effective against the mildew.

I like the fact that no residue is left behind on surfaces, and the bathroom is truly sanitized. I will also note that although I have arthritis in my hands, the spray bottle is easy to use.

Other reviewers have mentioned getting an error code when trying to use the Lotus system. I have also had error codes in two situations, but I figured out how to deal with them.

The first error code I have encountered occurs when there is no water in the base. During processing, water circulates between the base and the attachment you have chosen (either the bowl or the spray bottle). Between uses, clean water remains in the base unit. However, when you are first starting out, or if you have emptied the base unit, it takes time to get water into the base unit. This is when I have had an F4 error code. I remove the attachment, fill the blue reservoir on the base with water, and then put the empty bowl on the base unit. Using a large measuring cup, I pour cool tap water directly over the valve system in the bottom of the bowl to get water to go through the valve into the base. Then I turn on the processing cycle and see if it will go. If not, I repeat these steps until it does. Normally you do not have to worry about this, because clean water will be left in the base between uses.

The second situation where I have encountered an error code is when washing fruits that shed tiny seeds or hairs, such as raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, and kiwi. I belive that there must be a sensor in the base that reads the water as dirty, and halts the processing. Even when I pre-rinsed these fruits, I still got an error code because you can't get rid of all the tiny seeds and hairs. I dealt with this situation by emptying the "dirty" water out of the base. Next, I get clean water into the base as described in the previous paragraph. Then I put clean water in the bowl and process it in the usual way. At the end of the processing cycle, I remove the bowl from the base and add the fruit to it. I let the fruit sit in there for two minutes before draining. This way, no seeds or hairs circulate through the base to create problems. This is actually the method that the instruction book suggests for meat, poultry, and seafood.

I highly recommend this product, and plan to give it to family members as Christmas gifts. Please note that I am not associated in any way with the company that makes this product....more info
  • How safe are green cleaning products????
I've been lotusing my house and food for well over two years now and am amazed at how attached I am to it. We all have countless appliances around the house and they all seem to end up on a shelf somewhere after a while but if my lotus were to stop working I think my life would stop...what would I use to clean and how would I eat my produce if I can't lotus it?!?! Even my plants crave lotus water!! I have gradually worked myself off of every single cleaner in my home and am proud to say that all I need is my lotus. This is the best, one product to do everything. How did we ever end up in a world where we were buying a special cleaner for every single application around the house? All I can say is that those other companies have great marketing people, especially in light of the fact that they have found an ingenious way to mislead us of what they are really made of. Green cleaners promise that they contain natural (instead of synthetic) agents, break down quickly in the environment, or pose less of a toxic threat to humans and ecosystems. But just because the ingredients in green cleaners are plant-based or natural doesn't necessarily mean they're safe. The market for green cleaners is largely unregulated -- which means consumers still must be wary of what's in the bottle. Even cleaning products labeled "natural" may contain some fraction of synthetic chemicals. Or they may contain natural ingredients consumers would rather avoid, such as petroleum distillates, some of which can cause cancer. And just because a cleaning product is biodegradable and made from plant-based sources doesn't mean that it is without potential adverse effects on health. Plant-based ingredients included in some green cleaners include limonene (a citrus-based oil), pine oil, and the foaming agent coconut diethanolamide -- all of which can cause allergic dermatitis. And a recent study of natural and nontoxic consumer products found the suspected cancer-causing chemical 1,4-dioxane in roughly half of 100 tested products. Notice too that all these green cleaners we are talking about are just that, cleaners. Read the manufacturers websites and they all have a goal of passing the EPA protocol so that they can call themselves a sanitizer, but they can't with their current formulations. The lotus passes these test, just read the results on the company website and they are able to sanitize your produce AND surfaces in your home, all while only using water and oxygen, how much greener can you get!!! No wonder why this product was named one of Time Magazines Best Inventions and that the founder was named Innovator of the Year by the Government of Ontario!! Kudos to you and the whole lotus team at Tersano!!!

  • Incredible Deodorizer
A few thoughts on the Lotus. I regularly use caustic cleansers, and find they are effective and useful in a home. I had the opportunity to pick up a Lotus, and thought I'd give it a try. I couldn't be more pleased with the unit.

Simply put, I have yet to find anything that is remotely as good at sanitizing and deodorizing than the Lotus. I've used to Lotus on a variety of tasks, and have been very impressed.

My cheap plastic garbage can seems to cling to odors, but after a spray with the Lotus, it seemed to almost magically release any lingering smells. Likewise for sponges. I also used it to spray down my mattress, and it completely cleaned and deodorized that. I've also used it to remove mildew in the shower, although I find a good scrub helps this along.

I can't speak to the cleaning efficiency of the spray, it seems to be on par with a green cleaner when paired with the microfiber cloths.

Overall, I've enjoyed using the Lotus, and I look forward to experimenting more around the house. ...more info
  • PRESERVATIVES/ALLERGIES BE GONE!
First heard of this on CNN, stellar results confirmed by several journal articles and The Rosengarten report. I took the plunge! The freshness of fruits/vegetables/fish is STUNNING! No more preservatives, just fresh picked taste, no kidding! Reading the manual in totality worked out a few bugs. Also, Tersano's customer service dept. was more than patient and informative. ...more info
  • Super safe, environmentally friendly, and amazingly easy to use!
I looked everywhere for a product that would clean and better yet, sanitize my child's toys without harmful chemicals. I knew he would be putting everything in his mouth, and it bothered me to think about him ingesting things that might harm him. He has numerous soft toys like plush animals and cloth books and even cloth-covered electronic toys. You can't use something like bleach on these things. I spent hours on Google and in the stores looking for something that would clean and sanitize these things and came up short until I found the Lotus Sanitizing System.

This amazing contraption infuses normal tap water with oxygen in a way that makes it more effective and faster at killing germs than bleach, AND leaves no chemical residue or smell like bleach does. Not only that, but you can use the spray bottle to spray the treated water on anything that you want to clean and sanitize--don't try THAT with bleach! I just spray Lotus water on the toys (I usually give them a pretty good dousing) and then just let them air-dry, and they are clean and sanitized for my child to play with. The list of uses for this thing is practically endless. I use it in the kitchen, to sanitize the high chair, the kitchen table, the countertops, the doorknobs--everything. I use it in the bathroom also, to sanitize everything in there. I often use it on my carpets and on my upholstery to clean and sanitize them as well. I spray them down really well before going to bed, and they are dry well before morning. Because Lotus water is a powerful germ killer, you can even replace many of your chemical cleaners with it. I haven't found that it makes mold or mildew stains disappear, but it does kill the bacteria and germs there.

The system comes with a bowl attachment that you can put items in that you want to sanitize. I use this for fruits and veggies, and also for small toys and pacifiers that are safe to immerse in water. For the first time, I feel like I am getting my produce cleaner and with less pesticide residue.

I researched this product for several weeks before buying, and called the company and asked lots of questions first as well. It is a little pricey for some, but if you think about what you are getting, it is well worth the cost. I have been extremely satisfied with this system in every way, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a way to more safely and effectively clean and sanitize their home....more info
  • Hard to Believe-Well Believe It!
Lotus Santizing System by Lotus and Tersano

I didn't believe the claims although my daughter assured me the Lotus System did work wonders. Well she gave me one and NOW I belive.

The most recent challenge for my Lotus system was at my office. Our hall carpet had a number of large dark spots and my boss had the janitorial service use the standard cleaning products to no avail. So I offered to bring my Lotus in and give it a try. Within 10 minutes I had removed some 15 large spots on the carpet with absolutely no "elbow grease" needed. Just spray and remove. My office friends are now all shopping for their Lotus System. They pronounced it "unbelievable". Unfortunately most folks don't believe it until they see it. But it is REAL.

And if you are a pet fancier, this is a MUST in your home. I have removed every remnant of pet stains in my home. You know how you use ever product on the market but there is still residue. Well, no more. The spots are GONE!

I have never been so enthusiastic about a household product. The uses are endless. No home should be without a Lotus Sanitizer.

  • Second WONDER of the modern world
    lotus Sanitizing System

This is one of the seven wonders of our modern world.

I am using this device for cleaning almost everything around the home and office. There is no need to use cleaning chemicals (which are costly, messy and space consuming). This device prepares ordinary tap water to act as a cleaning and disinfecting agent.

The system temporarily creates water that is super-saturated with ozone (three oxygen atoms combined in one molecule). It takes some scientific background to understand, but, it is simple to use.

    Here is how it works:

You fill the spray bottle with ordinary tap water. You place it on the unit and push it down onto the base of the unit. You tell the unit that it is a bottle (instead of the bowl) and turn it on. A minute or two later, the unit notifies you with an LED display that the water is ready. You can then spray the water in a fine mist on ANYTHING. It is non-toxic and non-caustic (except to germs and poisons) which can be "reduced" (Chemistry term) by the extra oxygen atom in the water.

After playing with the Labrador Retriever in a nearby river, her coat often smells from the bacteria in the river multiplying on her fur and skin. She was itching terribly. After she gets out of the water, I prepare a spray bottle of the "Lotus" water and cover her in a fine mist. There is no smell from her coat anymore after playing in the river. She has stopped itching. The super-saturated ozone water is completely safe for large living organisms like dogs and humans.

I sprayed Lotus water on the Labrador's bedding. Just a fine mist of three or four sprays. No more dog smell.

I like to keep fresh herbs and veggies at home. On getting home from the Natural Food store, I prepare a bowl of the Lotus water and immerse the herbs and vegetables in it for two minutes (the unit tells you when all of the microrganisms have succumbed to the ozone in the water). I immediately place them in a plastic bag. They keep almost indefinitely in the vegetable crisper because when I place them in the refrigerator there are no micro-organisms on them to cause browning or decay.

This process also works well with bananas. It keeps bananas from browning almost twice as long as refrigeration alone.

I have used the cleaning cloths and the Lotus water to clean the stove. It was a breeze. The Lotus water cuts through grease as if it had soap in it. It took less than a minute to wipe down the entire stove top after frying in several pans.

The Lotus water makes a fair to good deodorizer under the arms. Bacteria is what causes us to offend others when hygiene deficient. The Lotus water dispatches underarm bacteria for about six to eight hours. (Gross! I know, but, think about it in the context of global warming and the destructive potential of spray deodarants).

This is a device for thinking Americans. It is a device that has uses in the home every minute. It is a device that enhances the lifestyle of every person conerned about their personal environment.

If the device only talked to me in a seductive feminine voice . . . .

If the device only talked to me in a seductive feminine voice . . . ....more info
  • Wanted to wait to write a review...
...since there have been mixed experiences with this product, I waited until I had owned the sanitizer for a while before I wrote a review. I have had the system for 9 months now, and absolutely love it. There have only been 2 times where I have had an error (I believe it was an F1, though I can't remember exactly) that was due to the machine needing one more cycle to complete the sanitization (I was sanitizing store-bought apples at the time) - I emptied the bowl, filled it with fresh water, and the cycle completed itself. The vast majority of the time the machine completes its cycle the first time. The food feels and smells squeaky clean after the sanitizing process, and tastes terrific.

The spray bottle attachment has been a particularly pleasant surprise - I haven't need to use chemical cleaners at all. The super-oxygenated water simply dissolves dirt and grime on contact, and has removed spots in the carpet as well. It makes a good deodorizer for upholstery as well.

This is truly a terric product in so many ways - it's effective, safe, environmentally friendly and one of the most "important" appliances I own for my health. Highly recommended!...more info
  • A Must Have Item!
We use this at home and run it soo many times per day! The spray bottle is awesome and I use way less clorox wipes nowadays. Ozone works very well and a simple internet search of the topic will provide worlds of info. Cleans my stove better than any chemical cleaner has...just a few sprays and light scrubbing takes off lots. I cleaned out tea/coffee stains from my stainless mugs easy...just soaked and light scrubbing removed almost all the build up. Took out stains in my rug very nicely too! Great for deodorizing, cleaning bathrooms, kitchens and all. I almost have too much fun thinking of all the things to Lotus waterize. Love being able to prepare salads/veggies/fruit and such without the worry of bag germies making us very sick. Since the water cleans so well... we have even started to gargle with it (although doesn't say we can do so in the instructions)and follow up with brushing teeth! Wow, our teeth got soo much whiter/stain free without the sensitivity of whitening strips. Didn't sting while gargling either, yay! Now our family/friends have a Lotus in their homes too! By the way, the customer service folks at the Lotus company were fantastic. Super knowledgeable since the customer service folks also use the Lotus themselves. And, I had received a faulty spray bottle but Lotus folks took care of it right away. Very happy with the Lotus and we surely feel this is a true wonder gadget! ...more info
  • Leaks after just 2 years
We bought our lotus sanitizing system about 2 years ago and used it once per week during this time. It now leaks out the bottom and is not usable. It was never dropped or mishandled. The company will repair it for $50 plus shipping charges. A well made product should not need to be repaired in this short of a period....more info
  • Couldn't live without it
Some folks have complained about getting an F1 error frequently. I have found that I get an F1 error when I sanitize grapes. Actually, I place the grapes into the bowl and swish them in water first and it's pretty horrifying how dirty the first rinse water is. (It's hard to tell that they're spraying grapes with down there in Chile...) Even after washing the grapes, I sometimes get an F1 error. My feeling is that the grapes were still too dirty for the unit to clean and I'm glad to know that the unit is "smart" enough to alert me.

I love this little machine so much that I got one for my mom. She loves hers, too....more info
  • Very Cool appliance
Although my husband doubts that it actually does what is says it does (because he can't SEE the germs that are killed) it's been nice to clean our produce this way. I just put everything in the bowl, clean it all, and set it out to dry. Fruits are more appealing to everyone when the cleaning is already taken care of, and I don't have to worry about e-coli on my tomatoes! I only wish it were more aesthetically pleasing, b/c I like to keep it out on the counter, and it's horrible for our kitchen decor!...more info
  • NOT AS ADVERTISED
I bought this item because I am interested in healther and cleaner products. I used the item approx. 5 times. Tell me , " What good is this item if you have to hold items under water". Everything bobs up to the top of bowl, above the water. Only item that is submerged gets sanitized. I even put a heavy dish on items to hold them below the water. It cost me $45.00 dollars to send back item. I did not keep original box because I did not intend to return item. I had to pay for packing and return shipping. Let me say that if you want to hold items under water it does work. I sanitized apples and we all know that apples are sprayed with wax. The wax loosened and I was able to clean the wax off.

  • How much Ozone does this product spew into the indoor air in the house?
Ozone is a good disinfectant, but also is harmful to humans when it is inhaled. It can be a source of indoor air pollution and cause breathing problems. Do we know how much ozone this product releases in the air during its functioning? Can the ozone "bubble" out of the water and into the air to any extent? How much ozone is liberated per hour (or min) of use? Would be great to know the answer to these questions before buying! Would give it 5 stars if these concerns can be addressed, and if the mechanical issues cited by other reviewers can be fixed. ...more info
  • It works
It works, it's real. Ozone isn't a well-known disinfectant/sanitizer, but go ahead and do a Google search on ozone and sanitation and you'll find academic articles on the subject. Apparently the technology is used for water sanitation on the municipal level and also to kill bacteria in aquariums and spas, not to mention its accepted use in food processing. There are also a lot of "holistic/alternative medicine" sites regarding ozonated water, but the manufacturer of this product isn't making any sort of health claims in that vein of things, which is perfectly fine.

It's not easy to tell if something is killing bacteria or not, but two small "tests" I've done bear out the effectiveness of the product (at least in my mind). This might sound funny, but I have smelly feet. Foot odor is due to bacterial overgrowth on the feet, and I used to use Betadine (povidone-iodine) to eradicate the odor (which works). With the Tersano unit, I took some of the ozonated water, poured it into a large container and soaked my feet in the water. And after about 2 minutes of soaking, it takes away the odor, which means it kills off the bacteria.

Another thing I've tried is using the ozonated water as mouthwash. (It's not what the instructions recommend, but I thought what the heck...) After gargling with the stuff for about 20 seconds, I find that the bad breath goes away. Again, which implies it's killing off bacteria. Works just like (if not better than) Listerine to knock out morning breath. Obviously, it doesn't impart "minty breath". But the bad odors go away.

Anyway, it seems there are a lot of ozonators out there (do a Google search). But this one seems to be one of the easier ones to use in terms of consumer applications.

If you really want to assess the bactericidal activity of this thing, the thing to do would be to get an ORP meter (oxidation-reduction potential meter), or get some petri dishes with bacteria and subject them to the ozonated water and do colony counts after treatment. In a sense, it's a leap of faith to use the product, because you can't see microorganisms to begin with. But silly as it might sound, the small tests I've done confirm in my mind that the unit works, and if you're the scientific type who wants confirmation via ORP readings or bacterial colony counts, then go ahead--I think you'll come to the same conclusion.

  • The greenest of green products!
Finally a solution to keep our food, our homes and us healthy! I've been lotusing everything for 3 months now. I used to just dangle my fruit under the tap and think that it was clean from pesticides and germs. But it wasn't. Now with lotus I can trust that my food is safe, no e-coli or salmonella or pesticides. The system works great, it even tells me when there are too many contaminants on my food, I just dump the water out and start again. And I think it even makes my fruit taste fresher, sweeter. And get this, I came home one day to see my 11 month old daughter licking the patio door to soothe her teething gums! You can bet I was relieved that I didn't use a chemical glass cleaner; I use just lotus water to sanitize my home. It's just as clean as when I used other products, but I don't subject my kids and myself to those fumes anymore. I recommend one to everyone; the world will be a much cleaner, safer place....more info
  • One of the new IMPROVE YOUR OWN LIFE technologies...
With all the pesticides and herbicides most farmers use to increase the volume of veg/fruit they produce; and with the recent multiple scares concerning bacteria and leafy greens --

well, it makes eating your daily veggies into a dangerous proposition. (And being a vegetarian into a real challenge!)

Enter the lotus. --> That extra oxygen molecule creates an environment where your produce is freed of organic and inorganic contaminants in no time at all. The unit itself is plastic -- so don't go bouncing it around the kitchen floor. It's an inexpensive home version of some really serious technology -- and fairly new technology. I suspect the 3rd or 4th release will be as sturdy as the best air purifiers.

But this is a buy-in to what is now possible -- to reliably get rid of all those nasty food-borne bacteria that can ruin a good meal. I even put my seafood through a good cleaning.

And strawberries do take longer to clean in the Lotus -- don't know why -- but the results are amazing. Those dull little berries that take days to ship from strawberry country to desert West Texas actually change color and are the most beautiful orange red that practically glows in the dark to a deep, vibrant crimson. This is not the color I grew up with -- it's just too hot here to grow them. But I now have a clue what folks in the Northeast and all over northern European climates have been talking about and painting all these years. They're beautiful.

And best of all, I don't have to worry about the fruits and veggies I'm eating. No matter how much poison the idiot non-organic farmers pour over my potential breakfast, I now have a defense. -- One that I control.

Also, take advantage of the spray bottle that comes with the Lotus system -- the increased oxygen lasts for 20 minutes, which so far has been about enough time for me to do a quick once-over of every countertop, sink, doornob, small appliance, and fridge -- as well as a quick once-over of the coffee maker drip parts. I pour what's left through the garbage disposer and then leave the bottle to air dry.

We've also now begun considering buying a bathtub with Whirlpool-like water jets. I had long ago written off that kind of therapeutic massage (excellent for arthritis) because of the germs and mold which tend to grow inside the internal workings of water and air jet systems. The same technology that makes the Lotus clean our food, toothbrushes, kitchen sponges, counters, doornobs, and utensils, also now cleans the inner-workings of massaging bathtubs, hot tubs and foot baths. No more shared bacteria, or newly formed mold to soak in! It's a great technology.......more info
  • I love this product when it works
I love the product. I use it to take stains out of the cloth, clean the kitchen, clean the refrigerator, etc. I also used it to clean my dry clean only clothing. You can spray the collar and will save you from some of the trips to the dry cleaner. The only problem is the F1, we finally figured out you can not use the water from the tap, you need to use filtered water or distilled water. That eliminated the F1 problem, this is after I took 3 units back to the Sharper Image. My 4th unit got an F5 another return. I believe they went to market a little bit too early, they will fix the problems and then I will give the 5*s ...more info
