Most included a remote thermostat, clean air filtration and low voltage start-up to add to consumer comfort, convenience and safety. And with their ENERGY STAR qualification for efficiency, they can provide comfort and savings for any room in your home. You expect all this from Frigidaire... and they deliver. How to Choose a Room Air Conditioner Compared to large capacity central units, room air conditioners have several advantages. The initial cost of a room air conditioning unit is significantly lower than the cost of central air. Because room air conditioners are designed for cooling small spaces, operating costs are reduced. And, room air conditioners can provide personalized temperature and humidity controls that central systems cannot. Calculating Cooling Capacity Cooling capacity is the critical factor in properly selecting a room air conditioner. Cooling capacity is measured in British Thermal Units (BTUs) and typical models will range in capacity from 5,000 BTUs to 28,500 BTUs. Choosing an undersized unit will overwork the unit and it will not cool properly. Choosing an oversized unit will cost more to buy and operate and it will not dehumidify properly. We can help you to calculate capacity. Not as effective as larger model I bought this "compact" model to replace a dimensionally larger 12,000 btu Frigidaire unit 8 years old. Read the reviews and was confident it was as good as the earlier unit and would effectively cool our 650 sq' pool house. The older unit was about 5" wider and would cool down the building within 10-15 minutes. This newer one does not cool as well. Guess that next time I will spend the extra bucks for the larger and more costly 15,000 btu....more info
Does the job, albeit noisily I bought these over a year ago, and am very happy with them. (I bought 2.)
Installed 1 on the upper floor and 1 on the main, and both do the job admirably well considering they're cooling off a *much* larger area than they're probably supposed to. For most of the summer, the one on the main floor does a fine job solo; for the hotter (above 90) days, both kept the house at least 10 degrees cooler than the outside, if not more than that. Considering I dislike weather hotter than 73 degrees, and these AC units kept me comfortable at home, the noise factor didn't bother me. I liken it to "white noise"; my kids were all able to sleep; so did my husband and I.
One mention: Sometimes (with the energy saver setting) at night, when it would kick back on, it could get annoying, depending on how well one was sleeping at the time. However, like I said, I hate hot weather, and love to be able to snuggle under blankets in the summer and be comfortable. To me, that was worth the noise.
Filters are uber-easy to clean. Installation was a typical pain in the butt, but I expected that with a window AC. We solved the problem by leaving them in all year round. LOL. (And yes, I'm purchasing some AC covers this year! -- It did get a mite drafty at times, but our curtains over the AC helped.)
I do recommend them for others, and would purchase them again if need be.
(I also love the remote control feature at night for changing settings, temperature, etc.)...more info
COLD Cools off our living room with no problem works great and alot of great features...more info
Cools well, too loud I wish I could have heard how loud my three new ac units were when I was purchasing them. I couldn't, so that is life.
This unit cools well, and keeps my large living room a nice place to be on a hot and humid day. It works well, is energy efficient, so I have most of what I wanted. I just wish I could tone down the white noise a little....more info
very pleased The unit was installed just in time for the first heat wave of the season and performed very well, cooling a large open area consisting of a living room/dining room/foyer/kitchen. I use a fan to disperse cool air throughout the area. I have had no problems with this unit. The remote is easy to use and has several good options (sleep mode, timer, energy saver, etc)....more info
Easy Cool This unit works well with the conditions we have here in lower Alabama.
The remote control makes easy work of any thing you want the unit to do,
I truely enjoy it's benifits....more info
First air conditioner damaged before shipment, second air conditioner broke after 6 days of use Scratch the first review. I spoke, or typed too soon. Do not buy this air conditioner. After returning the first one because it was damaged before shipping, the second one has broken as well. Used it for about 6 days in total. The compressor has stopped working completely, just makes a buzzing sound and emits a burning odor. I've had it for about 50 days in total so the return policy is useless. I'm extremely dissapointed with purchase and feel like I have wasted $300+. Tried contacting frigidaire but no luck so far. Unfortunately I can't edit the original rating. I'll update this review with specifics on how Amazon deals with the situation. Again, be extremely careful if you are considering purchasing this air conditioner.
05/22/08 Just want to update this review in terms of how Amazon handled the situation. After calling and Emailing customer service I received an Email from Amazon stating that "As it seems that the problem with this item is more widespread than we originally thought, we are not able to send another replacement. We will gladly refund you in full for the return of this item." It took a few Emails but Amazon refunded me in full for the air conditioner and shipping. I was impressed with how they quickly apologized and offered a full refund; very good customer service. The air conditioner gets 1 star, but Amazon gets 5. I have since purchased an LG 8000 BTU air conditioner. The fan isn't quite as strong, but it's much quieter and the air gets just as cool as the frigidaire. I've used it for about 15 days and the compressor is still working....more info
Perfect Easy as pie to install, works exactly as expected. Keeps a huge room nice and cool. Was delivered in 2 days, love Amazon Prime....more info
Great product bad service When we received the order the AC works great cools a 30x20' room. Only problem was that it took 3 1/2 weeks to arrive. By amazons estimate it should have been 5 days for delivery. Do not trust estimated delivery times....more info
noise My employer purchased this AC for my office. Noise level is impossible. The manufacturer refused to help. ...more info
Great value A/C if you don't mind the noise - it's LOUD!!!! This air conditioner I purchased new for around $269.00. Its small width, (hence the name Compact II) fits in the small width double hung window that I needed it for (I believe my window is 24" width). Most standard sized window units will not. This is one of the reasons for buying it, along with its low price. This unit blows extremely cold and cools my living room and kitchen with ease even on the most brutal summer days in New York. I have no complaints about the ability of this unit to cool whatsoever. My only complaint is it is extremely noisy - it sounds like a factory. It is even very noisy at its lowest fan setting. The manual says to lower the fan if it is too noisy, but that is an exercise in futility. So if you're gonna have to hear it, might as well leave it at maximum. I like the variable fan speed feature. So one would be hard pressed to find a 12,000 BTU for the price of this Frigidaire unit, but you WILL be stuck with the noise. Frigidaire should reverse engineer a Panasonic air conditioner if they want to be serious about competing in this market.
I gave it a generous three stars because of its impractical noise levels....more info
Noisy window air conditioner Motor for air circulation and 89 step speed control for this fan motor makes a loud hum disturbing whole house...can't get away from noise. Authorized service center kept 8 weeks and would not work on it because not bot there, 2nd auth serv center looked at it, called company and they wanted to replace whole A/C, listened to replacement and it was noisier than first...did not take. Now being offered 100% value on purchase of another Frigidaire unit of my choice...not found yet as units are now in storage. Will try in spring. Lost use of this one for whole year....more info
