Before you start ANY Taebo Tape you must be ready to be sore for a couple of days. I have been doing Taebo for 7 years. It is a good work and you will lose weight and gain muscle. The Boot Camp Series is great. If you don't want to lose weight or gain muscle DON'T DO TAEBO.........more info
  • BILLY BLANKS WEBSITE COMPLAINTS
The Billy Blanks customer service is horrible. Please make sure you thoroughly read everything before saying yes on Billy Blanks website. They overcharged my credit card and put me through hell before taking the dbds back a month later, then 2 months later, credited my account, minus shippping. Their customer service is NO GOOD. PHONE OR MAIL calls are worthless. I suggest anything you want to buy from thier site, its better to buy from another place like AMAXON. its worth the price. ...more info

  • Taking It To The Next Level
Billy Blanks' intensity was the extra push I needed to get back my body after the baby. I'd always been thin(120 lbs) so my exercise regimen was to maintain my figure. But after I had my son 8 years ago that routine did NOTHING to get me down from (175 lbs)!!!! Yikes.Even though people told me I carried the weight well. I didn't want to carry it at all!!!

Obviously, it was a whole new ball game and /i needed more time to work out. But taking care of a child, and working left me with no time to put in the hours at the gym that I desperately needed to get the weight off.

Billy Blanks' DVD's are short, intense and really pushed me far beyond what I would do alone. The best part is I can do them anytime of day or night in the privacy of my home after I've taken care of my son. I'm finally losing the weight and starting to see my old shape (pre-baby/motherhood) come back. Thank you!!!! Mr. Blanks for making these DVDs. I wish I'd found them when my son was a newborn!!! I really recommend the DVDs to mothers who just don't have the time to work out anymore. ...more info
  • Whew! Build It Up
Bootcamp is not for the faint of heart - in either sense of the phrase. But it is the most frustrating, kick-a**, motivational device to get in shape that I have found yet.

I actually watched the video a time or two before I started, to see what I could expect. Although it was intimidating, it did help to prepare me. Just something I'd throw out there ... worked for me, anyway.

A point - if there's any way you can manage it, do this WITH A GROUP, and(or at least) with ample space.

I'm adding the Cardio next. Billy's overall program is great, and it does allow you to take it more or less at your own pace...although I'm sure he wouldn't recommend that!...more info
  • Boot Camp -- Not for the Timid
After literally kick-boxing an aerobically weary exercise world back onto its feet with his fast-paced Tae Bo series of videos and DVDs for ten years or more, martial arts champion Billy Blanks seemed stalled, producing clones of his earlier successes that put devotees into a holding pattern. Instead of tailoring the new videos to an already Tae Bo savvy audience champing at the bit to move on to the next level, Billy and his team catered to a market of newbies yet to be captured into the Tae Bo fold.

We've all seen this system hawked on television infomercials. The heart-elevating music, the testimonials, and Billy's drill sergeant style all persuade us to buy. But did Billy take the complaints seriously and provide a system that Tae Bo veterans would find challenging?

I am pleased to shout out a resounding `yes'.

The set includes four (4) videos, "Basic Training Boot Camp" (55 minutes), "Cardio Boot Camp" (30 minutes), `Abs Boot Camp (35 minutes), and "Ultimate Boot Camp (55 minutes), and comes packaged with two (2) `Billy Bands', a workout schedule with dieting tips, motivational dog tags and a seven (7) day supply of Billy's Energy Supplements. For some unknown reason, the set offered on Amazon.com does not contain the Cardio Boot Camp session, hence making it impossible to follow Blanks' four (4) week workout plan.

The first 55 minute session is not for the faint of heart. Showcased as the video of choice for the first week of Billy's 4 week workout schedule, it starts out with 4 sets of full position push-ups and squats. Billy bulldogs you through rapid fire calisthenics combined with the familiar Tae Bo kicks and punches that only veteran Tae Bo-ers will be able to follow the first time through. Rewinding might be necessary initially to see first and then do without feeling exasperated.

About a third into the time allocated, Billy dons the Billy Bands---two (2) elastic resistance bands that are anchored by built-in stirrups and hand grips. Unfortunately, Billy doesn't supply an accompanying written instruction how-to to explain how to adapt the bands for someone less than 6 feet tall. He does demonstrate this in Cardio Boot Camp, the very session that Amazon excluded from its packaging. Go figure.

The pace of the exercise with the bands takes off like a rocket and doesn't quit---there will definitely be times when that rewind or `slow' button will come in handy to insure a full range of both negative and positive motion. With his intrepid benign bulldog style, Billy will demand yet another set from already stressed muscles and then coax out a double-time set which delightfully even his background troop cannot sustain. Jumping with lightning speed from biceps to deltoids, rhomboids to triceps, he interjects kicks and punches that the bands force you to do with close-to-perfect form. Even so, attempting a signature Tae Bo move like, "Speedball" becomes a real chore with the bands flopping over and under the wrist, cutting into the upper arm and never quite being in the position demonstrated by Billy and the gang---at least not in the rapid-fire time he allots each exercise. In spite of this functional error, the bands do up the ante, making the completion of each set a rival to a labor of Hercules. Basic Training Boot Camp finishes up with floor work-mostly abs----an abbreviated stretching routine and trademark motivational pep talk.

In week two (2) Blanks adds Cardio Boot Camp to the mix---less calisthenics, more kicks and punches and more band work. This session at only 30 minutes is a cinch compared to the Basic Training. As is the Abs Boot Camp included in week three (3) that doesn't even use the bands and focuses on abdominal-work done while still in an upright position.

The piece de resistance comes in week (4) with the Ultimate Boot Camp-same format as BasicTraining that includes more advanced calisthenics like roll over push-ups, lunges and squats that will leave you panting.

Bottom line: Despite his commercialism, Blanks does deliver the goods with this series. Unless you are in peak athletic condition, completing both 55 minute sessions ascertains waking up the next day with a little pain. The two half-hour sessions provide great breathers for either a day when less exercise is more or when a warm-up to a jog or other aerobic activity is necessary. Unlike the 2004 Capture the Power series, this Tae Bo offering builds on what you already know, progressing you to the next rung in the Tae Bo ladder. Recommended for all Tae Bo devotees....more info
  • Not crazy about it...
I've been a fitness addict for about 7 years now, and I love kickboxing and tae-bo style workouts. The problem with Billy Blanks is that he is simply NOT a fitness instructor. The DVDs in this series are okay, but they're really not the greatest, and even though I love working out, I can't make myself do these. Reasons:

    1. He doesn't cue the moves very well.

    2. He has you do some exercises at breakneck speed, which sacrifices both your form and any actual benefit you might get from the exercise, since you're just flailing around trying to keep up.

    3. He seems to think he's a motivational speaker during the whole workout, and frequently stops working out to look earnestly into the camera to go off on tangents about taking care of yourself and training yourself for the military (?!?!)

    4. He pays no attention to being "even". He'll direct you to do 40 reps of a move on one side, and then not do any at all on the other side. Or he'll have you do 30 reps of an exercise on your right side, and then only 16 on your left. Very aggravating.

I think there are better kickboxing/tae-bo style workouts out there, like Cathe Friedrich's Kick Max and Kickboxing with Janis Saffell. ...more info
  • For all the hot mamas with a little junk in the front (and all over)!!
I bought this a couple of weeks ago. I did it for the first time and thought I would croak on the floor. I like it. After the first two workouts. It was defenitely easier and you feel different. I have been using this for 3 wks and purchased the cardio and lower body movies also. I am a size 12, my pants are now falling off my hips. Yeah thats annoying but I feel fabulous. I have never been the type to workout. I got pregnant with my daughter and gained 90 lbs. I lost some but still needed to tone and lose more. I think I expected to wake up and be thin again. Not gonna happen. After using it the first time I swear I felt different and motivated to keep on doing it. Its january by the summer I should be skinny and fabulous again!...more info
  • Great Workout
Billy Blanks' Boot Camp is a challenge. It is filled with low-impact exercises at a pace that pushes me to do my best. I haven't advanced beyond the first DVD - I'm a bit out-of-shape so it will take me several weeks to move to the more advanced DVDs. The bands are a terrific addition and I'm working-up to use them for the full workout. ...more info
  • High energy, intense work out
This is a great product if you're in decent shape already but want a challenge. It's a nice balance of original tae bo moves and new exercises with the band. I always get sweaty and breathing hard. I definitely see improvements in my muscle tone from the work out.

If you purchase this product from "As Seen on TV", you should be aware that the bands you receive are not the same bands as used in the video. The bands I received are much tighter and therefore harder to use. The flip side is you'll be working out harder, which is a good thing if you like the challenge. But just so you know, you'll be faster fatigued than Billy Blanks and his crew. And sometimes your range of motion will be smaller; unless you're super-strong, the bands will restrict how far you can extend.

But in general, a great product for an intense work out. All three videos are great....more info
  • Best Home Fitness System On The Planet
As for the product it is the greatest home fitness system on the planet, bar none. This is the best way to strength train and lose body fat at the same time. A lot of problems people run into is that if they want to build muscle, they lift, but don't do much cardio because they get so sore. People who do more cardio don't want to lift because they get too sore and don't do their cardio. This is the best middle ground I have ever embraced. These workouts are action packed and garunteed to get you results. In weeks you will see the fat start to melt away and muscle beginning to develop. The workouts don't drain the life out of you like running or lifting might. Everytime I finish a workout, I feel energized. These workouts are tough and require mental fortitude in order to get through each of them strong. Billy and his team are very encouraging and have created a great supportive community for all of those who decide to engage in BootCamp or TaeBo. Both will get you results, but I reccommend BootCamp because it has finally given me the stomach I have always wanted by crunching out the fat that was there and building solid defined muscle. Basic science is that the more muscle you have, the more fat/calories you burn. Billy has been an instructor for over 20 years and only wants an opportunity to change your life. Give Billy that opportunity. ...more info
  • NOT for beginners...
Being a huge fan and dedicated user of Billy's taebo workouts, I was really excited to see that he had come up with something new. The concept is great: taebo with resistance training, but the practicalities aren't great. Overall there is nowhere near enough instruction on how to use the bands, or the movements using those bands - e.g., how far up/down are you meant to lift your arms before you start using the wrong muscle??? Where should the band be - in front or behind your elbow? You get my drift!
The workouts are much the same as any of the other BB taebo workouts, but that's fine - I mean how many different moves can you come up with for this type of workout?!
I consider myself to be quite fit - I've always worked out regularly and could almost do taebo advanced and taebo gold without breaking a sweat. So imagine my surprise when I tried one of these new DVD's and found that it switched so fast from stationery to high level cardio that I felt both dizzy and sick. This rapid switch happens more than once on the ultimate workout dvd - there's not enough time to increase/decrease your heartrate at a steady pace.
The stretch sessions at the beginning of the basic and ultimate workouts are better than on any previous taebo workouts, but two things: these stretches are done without any form of warm-up, so they increase the risk of injury, and there is no stretching at the end of any of these new workouts -so you have to make sure you do your own stretches.
Whilst on the subject of warm-up/stretching, the abs dvd includes no warm up or stretching whatsoever.
The live workout is OK, but again, a bit impractical, swtiches rapidly between moves and just generally left me feeling frustrated rather than like i'd had a good workout
I suspect the people shown in the work-outs have practiced long and hard to be able to pull the workouts off.
So why only two stars? Because I thought it'd be something new and great - it is something new, but it's not great. In fact, I imagine that if a complete exercise novice tried these dvd's with the bands, they would be likely to hurt themselves. So if you have never done taebo before, start with one of Billy's many other excellent workouts before attempting this!...more info
  • Better have the energy for it!
I didn't expect to be worn out before the end of the exercise. I suggest that if you are a beginner, you better take it easy and take breaks or you would get exhausted, and would need to lie down!!! For those with stamina, it could be a brease, but over all it's quite good if you can keep up with the workout. Will feel the result the next day!...more info
  • Billy Blanks: Boot Camp
I'm a little out of shape but because of my age I can snap back into shape with no problem but because of my present weight its easier said than done. So what I did was I paced my self. The first day I did 15 min. The next day I did a half an hour. I only did it 2x the first because of my schedule and what have you. The next week I did a half an hour and the third I did 45 min. I did exercise a third time but I did a personal burn out workout. The third week I slacked off and didn't exercise at all. But next week I plan on doing three days and the full dvd. So if you pace yourself you can do it. I actually love it. ...more info
  • Cardio Bootcamp NOT included
The product is excellent, but the package deal is not. Yes, the price is less than from the Billy Blanks web site, but for a reason: In addition to the Live Bootcamp DVD, another DVD is missing that is actually part of the program. Be careful when ordering and comparing options....more info
  • Hard for Beginners
The videos are fun and fast paced. If you are not in the best of shape I wouldn't recommend these DVDs to start. I would suggest starting with another work out and then moving on to this after you are in better physical shape. I know that when I first started working out these videos were too much for me. Billy jumps right into the workouts and you get tired easily. Once you are in good shape you might want to try these, but start with something easier. By the time you are half way through the work out you are tired and sweating and you want to quit. Only attempt to do these DVDs if you are already in good shape and you just want to stay in shape....more info
  • Billy Blanks Boot Camp
Good work outs. It's nice that it includes a 4 week workout plan too for you to follow. The -1 star is because it does not include the Cardio Boot Camp-which as others have said is required for the workout plan. However it's not expensive to buy that DVD along with this set, and I believe it's cheaper ordering them both from Amazon then it would be to order the complete set+shipping on Billy Blank's site.

Also the "Billy Bands" are ok, not great..the parts you put your hands through are quite bothersome at first, scraping at your skin, but if you slide the handle down towards one end you can work with them better. I would much rather have a set of 1 lb. wrist/ankle weights than use the bands. You do get used to them and they're not bad after the first couple times though.

I have not watched the 3rd DVD(ultimate) yet, but for the first two the Basic is good, Ab video is just ok, I'd say there are better out there.

The only other Tae Bo videos I've watched were the "Get Ripped" series, which is much older but I felt that they were better actually. I felt I was just getting a better workout.

All in all it is a good workout and fun to do, and for your money not a bad price. ...more info
  • Not necessarily for beginners
I've seen ads on TV about Billy Blanks products saying "anybody can do it". This is not necessarily true. I've just begun exercising again after years of inactivity. I had a hard time following these workouts because they move so fast. I would fall behind and I finally got so frustrated that I ordered the Transfirmer program and have been using that. I really like Billy Blanks and his tapes and I hope that one day I can work up to using them. I would have stuck with the Billy Blanks program had there been a beginning workout in which the exercises were done slower so that beginners (and less coordinated persons such as myself) could learn the moves well before speeding them up.

  • Best Workout Ever!
The Billy Blanks Bootcamp set is one of the best and most challenging workouts he has put out to date. It is a great option for time-crunched people because you will get your cardio and strength training workout all within 1 hour! I lost 85 pounds by working out with Billy. I was lucky enough to be part of an infomercial promoting this product (if you enlarge the picture of the box that's me on the back of it). Billy, you ROCK! Thanks for all that you do for us! • Worth your money & your time!
I own Billy's Bootcamp and the Ultimate Bootcamp DVDs with the Billy Bands. I enjoy using the bands because it's a good challenge. I work out very often and take a lot of classes at my gym but when I cannot get to the gym I do this at home and I always feel like I got a good, challenging work out. I feel this is a great cardio and muscle conditioning work out in one. You will sweat, you will challenge your muscles, and you will feel it the next day! I would recommend this for someone who is intermediate to advanced. If you are just starting out, I would recommend trying the Tae Bo Basic work out first. It will give you a clean start and then you can move on to more advanced Tae Bo work outs. The Bootcamp Series could overwhelm you if you are brand new to exercise.

One thing that might be good to know is that you need a decent amount of space to move around when you do this dvd. I live in a small space and have to move around some furniture before I do this dvd. I don't find this to be an issue for me but if you live in extremely cramped spaces you may get frustrated. Try and give yourself some space to move around.

  • FANTASTIC WORKOUT!!!
This is one of the best taebo series, it is very advanced not really for beginners. You see the results after a week after doing this workout. I highly recommend that you buy the deluxe set which includes the Lower and Cardio workout, they are fabulous as well. The resistance bands are challenging at first but with regular use with the workout, you will become stronger and more toned. Be careful, if you have a tender neck (like myself) or weak shoulders, there are a lot of press ups in some of these workouts. Don't do so many reps, I'm surprised that there have been a lot of bad reviews regarding this series but it truly is up there with the Get Ripped series. I have been doing taebo for over twelve years and I really enjoyed this workout. Give it try, it will definitely keep you fit and well and give you a body to die for....more info
  • Um, if the people on the DVD cant do this workout, how am I supposed to???
I suppose I am somewhat of a Tae Bo fan. I keep buying the videos and DVD's, but just to let them collect dust, because I can barely do them. Which brings me to this thing. This workout is really, really advanced. The people on the video look like they are in pain, and they are really in good shape. So how is someone who is even in moderately good shape supposed to make use of this workout. There is really only one modification for the less fit, no bands, but that doesnt help too much. I suppose someone in really good shape would find this to be a good workout, so perhaps, when I am that person one day, Ill use this DVD.

I have the original Tae Bo, Tae Bo live and Tae Bo impact, all of which are the same workout set in different places and with different equipment. Blanks must be strapped for cash, because he keeps making the same video over and over again. The only new thing in this one is the bands, but you can buy $5 bands from Walmart and use them with a different Tae Bo.

I am really happy that I didnt buy this thing and only saw someone else's because it is not worth the money, If you have one Tae Bo, you have them all....more info
  • Good for all levels
Despite some of the criticisms, I'd say that this set is great for people of all levels. In each video, there's a participant who demonstrates how to do the moves without the 'Billy bands' (resistance tubing with handles and foot loops), so those who aren't in the best of shape can still get a great workout. Billy is very encouraging and motivational throughout which makes for a great experience. The footwork isn't all that difficult to follow, although he does tend to move a bit quickly in the DVD's after the basic bootcamp.

The only negative is that this set doesn't come with the cardio bootcamp DVD or the lower-body bootcamp DVD. However, you can get these pretty cheap on Ebay to complete the set. I can say for certain that my butt and thighs have never burned this much during a video workout or the days after doing one. It's awesome! ...more info

For some unknown reason, the set offered on Amazon.com does not contain the Cardio Boot Camp session, hence making it impossible to follow Blanks' four (4) week workout plan.

I use The Firm, Core Secrets and Windor Pilates to switch-up my exercise routine. The Boot Camp routines are challenging and even though I have been using the other fitness products for over 3 months now and am in pretty good shape I had sore muscles in my legs and arms after doing the Basic Boot Camp DVD which said to me the Boot Camp DVD's are hitting muscles that the other routines weren't quite getting. As per previous reviews, save yourself the trouble and don't order from Billy's website. I ordered from Billy's website almost three weeks ago. Shipping was expensive at around $20.00. I didn't realize how much it was until it was too late because it wasn't disclosed until I clicked send order. Took a week to leave the warehouse, but never made it to my house. Now it's about three weeks later. When I tried to track this with the Post Office, I discovered that it had arrived at the post office three days earlier but never made it out for delivery. I called Billy's customer service. They told me I had to track the package down. They gave me a phone number to call for the post office where I was told Billy's customer service would have to track. Called Billy's customer service again. They refused to try to locate the package - not clear why. Told me they would just ship another one. I told them I didn't want another one - that it appeared to be sitting at the post office a mile from my house. They refused to try to locate, so I told them to just cancel the order. They refused. I asked that they ship some other way than the Post Office, also refused. ...more info
  • Horrible product with horrible customer service
One star is actually too high of a review for this product. I purchased this set with the red billy bands for my wife. She loved the workout that was on the tape, so no complaints about that. However, the third time she used the bands, one of them snapped and hit her in the ear. No damage was done, but she said it hurt like hell. The company website was contacted, but they not only didn't care about her getting hurt by their POS product, they refused to replace it or refund us because she wasn't a "billyblanks club" member. These idiots blew off her complaint, refused to rectify the problem, and then had the audacity to try to sell her a club membership.
