About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.
- Folding recumbent exercise bike for low-impact cardiovascular workouts
- Sturdy steel frame, foam padded grips, and slide-resistant footpads
- Multifunction LCD monitor tracks time, speed, distance, and calories
- Adjustable resistance system; adjustable seat fits various user heights
- Cushioned seat and seat back; measures 42 x 41 x 25 inches (W x H x D)
Well, I have found it to be a wonderful addition to my living room. It hardly takes any space whatsoever and it was extreamly easy to put together. I managed it in less than half an hour with my three year old boy "helping" and the baby running over my toes in her walker. My only suggestion is to buy the mat to put it on if you have hard floors like I do just to keep from accidently scratching them up. It is really quiet too I can get on it without having to change the volume of the television at all. I would buy it again in a heartbeat....more info
- Great Alternative to Big Expensive Recumbents . . . But
As has been stated in other reviews, this has a weight limit of 250 lbs (I'm at 215) and people much taller than I am (5'10") may find the bike too short unless they drill a new hole to further raise the seat. However, it fits me, is stable and doesn't "moan". In fact the mechanism is very, very quiet.
I had a small Tunturi upright bike nearly 30 years ago but now felt that the semi-recumbent form of the Stamina In-Tone would suit me better at this age, and it does. Yes this is a "semi-recumbent" and fits about halfway between an upright and a full recumbent. I like this aspect of the design very much.
The unit is well built (better than I expected) goes together easily in a half hour ("tools" included) and while the seat is harder than I'd like, I just throw a towel over it and it's fine.
A terrific value and a great alternative to big, expensive recumbent bikes.
UPDATE July 2008, I moved up to a much larger, more expensive, heavier-duty Ironman Charger (hey it was in the Gold Box!)
The Stamina is fine, but it is best if you really need the space savings or dollar savings. HTH...more info
- Recumbent Bike
I really have enjoyed my Stamina 15 0200 In Tone Folding Recumbent Bike. However there were some deep scratches on the back of the seat back made by UPS before delivery.
All in all, I am very satisfied with the performance.
- Stamina 15-0200 InTone Folding Recumbent Bike
This is a great bike!!! I put it together myself in about 1/2 hour (my husband only had to tighten things up a bit), the seat is VERY comfortable, and I get a great workout. I have the resistance fairly low - haven't tried the higher resistance levels. I'm 5'2" and we needed to drill another hole to adjust the seat so I could comfortably reach the pedals. I'd guess this is designed for people 5'4" and above (but then what isn't?) I'd highly recommend this bike....more info
- I like the bike!
This exercise bike is exactly what I needed. It meets my needs very well: it is inexpensive, it was easy to assemble, it doesn't take up much space, and it is silent during use so I can watch TV while I use it. The electronics show distance pedaled, speed, calories burned and something else I can't remember off hand. It's a great buy. I researched lots of user reviews on Amazon before I bought it. ...more info
- Works great
The bike arrived quickly and was easy to put together. It is very quiet. The tension adjustment is fine for me. Instead of laying on the couch and watching TV I now spend 1-2 hours in the evening pedaling....more info
- Great workout, easy on the joints!
I have degenerative disc disease as well as severe osteoarthritis. Exercising had become too painful and even walking was very difficult. I have always been active and was almost desperate to find a form of exercise that didn`t hurt and cost a bundle. I found the Intone Recumbent Folding Exercise bike and it is wonderful! The angle of the pedals and the supportive seat are exactly what I needed. Now I can get a good cardiovascular workout as well as toning my lower body and abs. I am able to use light free weights while riding for a complete workout. I also read while riding and the time goes by very quickly! I highly recommend this peice of exercise equipment!...more info
- A Good Deal
For what it is -- a fold up recumbent bike -- and for what it costs -- 139 bucks -- it's a pretty good deal. Assembly may take an hour, but it's not hard to put together. It's simple to adjust the resistance while pedaling, the read out is easy to understand, it hardly makes noise when it use, and while it's not very compact, it doesn't take up much space either. Personally, I'll watch TV or play video games or just read, while burning 400+ calories in an hour just sittin' and pedalin'. ...more info
- The best of both worlds
This was just what I was looking for. I needed something to do besides workout DVDs on rainy/cold days when I don't want to jog. This bike takes up little space like an upright but has the comfort of a recumbent. It's nothing fancy but I didn't want anything fancy. I don't know that I could go more than 30 minutes on the seat. It's not bad, but it starts to be uncomfortable after awhile. It was easy to put together. The only problem I notice is after a while there is a click/clack noise coming from the housing where the pedals are. I just pedal backwards for a few seconds and it goes away. For what I paid for it, it's not worth the trouble of sending it back. Plus I bought a warranty so...
Other than that, it is very quiet; I ride it in the same room as my sleeping husband....more info
- Comfortable, Well-Made; Folding is Limited
I like this bike and am glad I purchased it. It is a well-made machine with a great price. Very comfortable, easy to assemble, and easy to use. I was hoping that it would be lighter weight and that the folding aspect would be more substantial, thus making it easier to move and store. However, I suppose moving the thing should be counted as a "bonus workout." All in all, a good purchase....more info
- Love It
I recently purchased this item and am completely satisfied with it. It was relatively easy to assemble and very easy to use. I love the fact that it folds up and is easily moved from one spot to another. I've been using it every day with wonderful results. I would highly recommend it....more info
- Yes, there is a weight limit of 250 lbs.....
It's not mentioned in the description of this product. I weight a lot more than that...the product holds me but it does "moan" and "groan". I gave this 3 stars because it is easy to assemble and the "folding" function does make it worth it. However, I would not have purchased it if there was a mention of the weight limit. I have not had any issues...but buyer beware!...more info
- my boyfriend put it together in 10 minuntes
it was easy to put together and the instructions are not confusing (neither is the logic) so it's not hard to assemble. My boyfriend put it together with ease. He did it in ten min. and still had enough energy to do me wrong after! Go D-Love Go!!...more info
- Great value for price
I bought this bike last November in hopes of stopping the rapid upward crawl of weight gain while recovering from a nasty case of plantar fasciitis. Since walking is by far my favorite form of exercise, I wanted something inexpensive and portable that I could easily move out of the way once my foot recovered enough to use the treadmill again. I also like the semi-recumbent feature--full recumbent bikes hurt my knees and upright ones hurt my back. This one is a nice compromise. It doesn't bother my back at all, and I can ride it for well over an hour before one of my knees starts to balk. It is also small enough that I've been able to relocate it to the living room now that my treadmill is unfolded back to its rightful place. Ironically, I'm probably getting more use out of the bike now as a cross-training machine than I did when I first bought it as a temporary treadmill replacement!
As others have pointed out, the bike is very quiet and a great piece of equipment for turning TV time into active time. I love the fact the distance/time/calorie monitor is cumulative. That makes it very easy to keep track with how much total exercise you've done for those of us who like to split it up into multiple sessions a day.
That said, nothing is perfect. A couple of small improvements would be great:
1. Like others mentioned, the seat post adjustment could use one more hole for us long-legged folks. I'm 5'10", and in order to make the bike more comfortable for my knees, I placed a small throw-pillow on the seat. This has the added benefit of adding more cushion as well, but it would still be nice if the bike came with the proper seat adjustment out of the box.
2. The time continues accumulating for a few seconds after you stop peddling. For us multi-session exercisers, it would be great if the clock stopped immediately with the pedals. Also, the calorie counter seems to be rather "optimistic". ...more info
- Just great
We ordered the folding recumbent bike so we can take it with us when we travel in our RV. I'm used to either biking or an indoor exercise bike and was a little concerned this might be a waste of money. NOT! Both my husband and I have tried it out and it works just great for an inexpensive portable workout. It's very quiet, and works so well it made me wonder why we have such a fancy one in the bedroom. It's perfect for what we want it for, which is about 40 minutes of indoor exercising every other day while on the road. It will take more time to see how well it holds up, but so far I give it a FIVE rating....more info
- Best Exercise Machine I've Had In My Home
I am very pleased with my purchase. The machine is extremely quiet and I like the way it folds up to get it out of the way. Because of that I use it every day. I've used other exercise bikes, but the seats were always very uncomfortable -- this is perfect for my needs and I can read or watch tv while exercising....more info
- Love This Bike
I was prepared to spend $450 for the Schwinn 230. It was comfortable, highly rated, and had all the features I wanted but it had a big footprint. I came across the Stamina Intone and was intrigued by the cost, design, and high ratings. My hesitation was whether it would be comfortable given its semi-recumbent design. I'm 5'6 and NOT small framed and uprights hurt something aweful to me. Now that I have the Intone I am so happy that I saved the extra $300 and the floor space. This bike does everything I need it to do. Because it's so small it sits right by the TV and I hop on at all times of the day and night. Tracking progress is great as it turns on when you start peddling and off when you stop. It took me about 30 minutes to put it together - no additional tools needed. The pre-drilled holes matched perfectly and quality seems great. The only issue I had was the bike made a noise when I first got on it and started peddling. I played with the tension and kept peddling and it stopped. It hasn't happened since. I LOVE THIS BIKE! Don't hesitate to buy it. You'll save money and won't be disappointed....more info
- One of the nicer pieces of cheap junk...
Yes, I said junk. Yes, I still rated it 3 stars. I lost all tension after one month of use (35-50 minutes/day, 5-7 days/week). I took the unit apart (even a fiscal conservative like me knows enough not to bother with customer service at a company with three different warranties- not for $150...) The "tensioner" knob does nothing. There is a stop screw inside that prevents the "tensioner" from doing anything except at the tightest level. Even then its effects are minimal. The actual tension comes from a spring (not adjustable) that tensions the drive belt. The drive belt runs poorly across two guiding rollers. After a month, the spring popped loose when I was folding the bike. When I took the covers off, I found that the belt is slowly rubbing away due to poor routing through the rollers. (Belt part # Fengshou Sanmen Tingpang 270J 005 3F). I was able to fix this in 25 minutes.
All that being said, the bike has a tiny footprint, is comfortable, silent, folds up very small for storage, and it's CHEAP! How's that for mixed signals??...more info
- Great product for great price!
Purchased this recumbent bike a couple of months ago to help me rehab after breaking my foot. I actually ordered it from Bayou Fitness (a site I highly recommend for fitness related equipment) and shipping was free. I assembled the bike myself in about 30 minutes-if I can do that then anyone can! It is extremely quiet and provides a decent workout for my legs while I'm watching tv. It takes up far less space then my traditional bike that I had propped up on a trainer so I'm very grateful for that. This is an affordable and practical piece of equipment and I'm glad I purcahsed it....more info
- Awesome workout bike
I was a little skeptically in buying this bike because it doesn't cost very much and I thought it might not be good if it is that inexpensive. I decided to take a chance. But I really like this bike. It works just as I hoped it would. It is a real quality product.
The seat is pretty comfortable.
It was very easy to assemble.
I have owned it for about 3 weeks now and I use it about 2 hours a day. It is great in the winter when I can't ride my out door bike.
It is well worth the money.
There was minor damage on it when I got it, that I think was from the shipping. But it didn't affect the quality of the bike, just the look.
- great Stamina
This Stamina Recumbent bike is great and the price is very good too.
Very easy to put together.
I love it....more info
- Maybe not the best for us tall people
I like the price, am very happy with how compactly it stores, and believe it is a good bargain for what you get, but I have two criticisms:
1. It wobbles a bit from side to side when you really get going (the pivot joint could have been more beefy). Fortunatley this is more of a distraction than a serious problem.
2. It is not made for people over 6' tall (I am 6'-4"). The seat does not extend far enough for my legs to pedal without closing to an acute angle (less than 90 degrees). To compensate, I drilled a new hole further down the shaft. I probably voided the warranty doing so, but it is a much better fit for my long legs....more info
- Great bike for the price!
To begin with, the bike took only about 10 minutes to put together. It was very easy and required no tools apart from the screw driver/wrench which came in the box.
After it was assembled I hopped on, expecting a lot of noise from something that was so cheap. Nope, this is quiet. I like this bike! Yes, the seat does have a wobble when you peddle faster; it is not as sturdy as one of those big monsters that cost hundreds of dollars. But the pedal action is smooth, and the electronics work even when you pedal backward.
I bought this specifically for my game room. I wanted something to sit on while watching television in the evenings instead of just vegging. This bike fits the bill perfectly. When I'm done it folds up compactly and securely - there is a pin which you insert to hold it folded (unlike my beloved Gazelle, which pinches my fingers every time) - then rolls into the closet.
You could get a better recumbent bike - no question. But you're not going to touch one for only $139.00. This is a great deal....more info
- Great for the price
I've been using this product for 2 days now and I think it's great for the price. Assembly was easy, and it's easy to use. The seat is hard, and it's not made for tall people, I'm 5'11. I have the seat adjusted to the last hole and it's a bit uncomfortable. But I knew it would be an issue before buying. Otherwise its great for burning calories while playing video games, or watching tv. ...more info
- Great Bike
I bought this bike a couple of months ago and I had to return it because it was making a clicking noise on the left pedal. It drove me crazy. Once I returned it, I received a new one and the box was beat up and when I opened it, the seat was ripped. I went ahead and put it together and the left pedal on it was clicking as well. Once I received the 3rd bike, everything was good. I have not had any problems with this bike. It is quiet and I love that if folds up. I can put it away if I need to. I would recommend this bike if you don't wont to spend a lot of money. I only gave it 4 stars because I had to get three bikes before I got a good one. ...more info
- Can't be beat!!!
Between running and using the elliptical, I was looking for something different to add to my workout but didnt want to spend the money or space for another large machine. The elliptical was over $700 bucks. After reading the reviews (Amazon reviewers are awesome.) I figure I can give it a try.
Very easy to set up, a few bolts for the legs, seat/seatback, and handle, and pedals and thats it. The unit pretty much comes almost completely assembled.
Very quites and smooth - I don't think its a magnetic drive since you turn a knob for resistance. The Conosole shows the typical miles, time, RPM, etc and does not adjust resistance with it.
Easy to fold up. Takes up very little space.
Cons: Yes, the seat post does wobble a bit if you ride hard.
The pedal are smaler than the typical bicycle pedals.
The seat post is a pain to adjust (will need silicone lube like other reviewer says)
I've been on it for 40 minutes each night since I got it this week and have build up a sweat during the workout each night.
Even with the cons, I would still recommend getting it for the value/price. Can't be beat. Think of it as 3-4 month gym membership....more info
Although well packed and easily assembled, my bike didn't get more than 30 miles on it before the "wheel" started making a clunking sound on every turn of the crank. It's like having someone tap your feet with a mallet, along with an annoying clunking sound, and makes the bike unusable. I hope the manufacturer will remedy the problem. My only other complaint is that the resistance level is not enough; even dialed to the most resistant level, it is not very much, and the easiest level of resistance is practically nothing....more info
- Great bike
It's a great little bike, we love how quiet it is. You can actually hear other people talking to you or the tv while you workout. It folds up easily and is easy to move and/or store. The only complaint is that you can't change the resistance very much....more info
- OK but had some problems
Inexpensive, assembled easily, and worked well. But after less than two weeks, it was grinding and then the pedals locked up completely. After finally getting the whole thing apart, I saw that the belt was shredding and the pieces were jamming the mechanisms. Stamina replaced the belt, and now I just have to figure out how to get it back on, because it doesn't seem to work. Once it does, and if the bike works well from then on, I'll adjust my rating, but right now I'm not terribly pleased to have something break after less than 2 weeks of mild use....more info
- Excellent buy
this is an update to my original, is always that nagging question, will it last?
Have used for now almost 18 months, daily, and recently my wife also daily, no problems, in retrospect I think it was a good buy for our needs, small non intrusive footprint, easy to fold and get it out of the way.
This has been an excellent buy for my needs, before purchase went to a couple of chain well known stores in town to compare against other recumbent bike models, they all cost much more, were bulky, heavier, bigger foot print.
I was undecided about the missing pulse monitor on this purchase, but decided for the amount of money saved can buy a wrist pulse monitor and carry it with me when using my regular bicycle.
Easy to assemble,(just ignore the instructions and keep an eye on the shipping box picture).
Yes, uses cheap bolts and nuts, but I do not think they are crucial parts, for easier adjustments of seat just get a can of silicone spray and use it generously on the seat column.
I cannot find any cons or negatives.
- Folding Recumbent Bike
The recumbent bike was easy to put together, materials are for the most part pretty good quality, it was easy to utilize and ride. My only complaint is that the knob for adjusting the height of the bike seat comes loose with riding it for a short time. So, you have to tighten it on a regular basis. But for the price I think it's a small annoyance. Overall, for the price it's a great bike....more info
- Best Ever Exercise Bike
I really like this bike. It is comfortable, compact, and extremely quiet. Unlike another recumbent bike I have, it does not hurt my knees or my back or take up too much room in a small apartment. It enables me to get a good workout in spite of rheumatoid arthritis, which somewhat limits my exercise options. It is easy to move and put in storage if need be. I was planning to fold it up and put it away between sessions, but it is so small I can just leave it out all the time. It was pretty easy to assemble; I did it myself in about an hour. The directions were clear and everything fit where it was supposed to go.
All in all, I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a pleasant, convenient, and effective form of exercise. ...more info

If you don't need a lot of bells and whistles then I think it's a good deal. it's also pretty easy to move around and the folding feature is nice....more info
