The primary tenet of Wii Fit is balance. Your center of balance, the point between your left and right sides when you stand upright, has a lot to do with your health. Those without an even center of balance will be unnaturally compensating for this imbalance, which causes their posture to become misaligned, increasing the possibility of putting unnecessary strain on their bodies. This is where the Wii Balance Board comes in.Similar in appearance to a step aerobics board, the Wii Balance Board is much, much more. Before you jump into doing exercises and activities, you'll start by creating a profile. This is done easily and intuitively by simply choosing a Mii, entering your height and age information, and doing a few quick tests that will serve as a baseline for your new Wii fitness regimen. Four Categories of Fun
- BMI Check: BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that is the standard used by agencies such as the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health. To check your BMI, you'll enter your height then stand on the Wii Balance Board and let it read your weight.
- Wii Fit Age: After you've checked your BMI, you'll do a basic balance test and find out your current Wii Fit Age. This basic balance test measures how well you can control your left and right balance. Based on the results, you'll be assigned a Wii Fit Age.
Once you have created your profile it's time to have some fun. Wii Fit features four main categories of exercises to choose from: Strength Training, Aerobics, Yoga and Balance Games. Wii Fit will guide you through the first three with the help of your own virtual personal trainer, while the balance games offer variety and fun to help keep you engaged and excited about your fitness goals. In addition, as you spend time exercising, you'll earn Fit Credits that unlock additional exercises and activities within your favorite categories that will allow you to continue to push yourself. - Strength Training: Put your strength to the test with muscle-toning exercises like Single Leg Extension, Sideways Leg Lift, Arm and Leg Lift, Single-Arm Stand, Torso Twists, Rowing Squat, Single Leg Twist, Lunge, Push-Up and Side Plank, Jackknife, Plank and Tricep Extension. Challenges include Push-Up Challenge, Plank Challenge and Jackknife Challenge.
- Aerobics: Get your heart pumping with fun, interactive Aerobic exercises like Hula Hoop, Basic Step, Basic Run, Super Hula Hoop, Advanced Step, 2-P Run, Rhythm Boxing, Free Step and Free Run.
- Yoga: Work on your balance and flexibility with Yoga poses and activities like Deep Breathing, Half-Moon, Dance, Cobra, Bridge, Spinal Twist, Shoulder Stand, Warrior, Tree, Sun Salutation, Standing Knee, Palm Tree, Chair, Triangle and Downward-Facing Dog.

Besides being a little aggrivating when the game sometimes scores me low when I know I've done well ( I run marathons and stay in decent shape), the games are fun and the balance games are challenging. There are a lot of activities to choose from and a lot of things I haven't tried such as yoga. I was skeptical at first because I thought this would be just another gimic to con people into spending money on a "miracle cure" for overweight people. I found that the exercises get me sweating and if you are in decent shape like me, you can move up to advanced and longer workouts fairly quickly. I think this is a really great way to get people up and moving while having fun. I highly recommend this product. If you are skeptical like I was, see if you can use it at a friends house first. - Wii Fit really can help you get fit!
I admit to being skeptical when we first got our Wii Fit. The first few things I tried didn't really make me feel like I was exercising, but, as I unlocked more activities, I saw that there really are a great variety of things to do to improve my fitness. If you are just looking for fun, play the balance games, but if you are looking to really improve your posture or tone your muscles, spend some time doing the yoga poses and doing the strength exercises. If you don't feel like you have worked out after 30 minutes of strength exercises, you are either already extremely physically fit or aren't doing the exercises correctly.
Another thing I like about the Wii Fit is that it is not only motivating for me and my husband, but also for my twin six year olds. On cold or rainy days here in Wisconsin, it provides a great way for them to get some high quality exercise into their day. They love it because it's fun and technology oriented; I love it because they are having fun while improving their fitness.
Wii Fit is truly worth the money and can entertain and improve the fitness of your whole family. Just be sure to come up with a system for deciding who gets to play when. You are going to need it....more info

I got a Wii Fit for Mother's Day (after I requested it!), actually it was an early mother's day present I got it about 2 weeks before that and have had it for about a month now. I LOVE it! I have not missed a day since I got it and have lost 10 pounds. My daughter who is 4 also loves to do it and it has helped her balance and coordination improve. My husband also enjoys it! My 2 year old son will stand next to me and mimick the Yoga poses that I do ... it is so cute!
For us it has been fun for the WHOLE family. We have all enjoyed it and it has helped me to lose weight. I think it helps you to be accounatable for your weight loss and gain. You can set weight loss goals on it and have fun as a family doing the exercises together.
The balance board has a weight limit of 300 lbs and has a lot of variety with different games to do to keep you interested and the whole family entertained!!

It's hard to keep your income good these days. But why spend you hard earned money on a little board thing, when you can do it the old fashioned way and get outside! Exercising while playing "Games" Makes no sense, I usually play some Animal Crossing while doing curl-up by my TV. Then I go outside and do some real exercise. Moving like a fool on a board should hardly count as exercise. I guess this is good for kids and women, but men shouldn't need this (And not to be sexist or anything, but most gamers are men). Although the Wii was intended as a family console, the family games are often lackluster. Soccer moms will get a kick out of this....more info

My husband and I bought the WII game system to keep the family active. Recently we purchased the WII Fit and have not stopped using it. The kids get a big kick out of the different activities and the WII board enables you to keep track of your progress. At times though I wish it would forget my small regressions. - Fun, but it's a little off
I got the Wii Fit for my birthday from a friend who is a fitness enthusiast, like me. Before I opened it, she warned me that I'll love the games but not like certain aspects. She was right. The games ARE fun. They get your body moving, and that's the whole point. There are problems with the Wii Fit that I want to enumerate:
-I am a gymnastics coach and I have a very strong interest in fitness. I find the strength exercises to be much too easy because I lift heavy weights at work on a daily basis.
-I also have a very good sense of balance on 2 feet, 1 foot, or my hands. The yoga exercises are elementary compared to what I can do alone, yet Wii Fit tells me that I have poor balance. This is contrary to what I know to be realistically true.
-It determines your BMI based solely on your weight and height. If you already have a lot of muscle tone (which weighs more than fat), the BMI will tell you you're fat, even if you really aren't. There has been controversy about BMI calculators because of this since it was introduced in the 1990s.
-Your Wii Fit age is also determined based on this information. Even if more reliable fitness calculators determine that your "real" age is lower than your actual age, Wii Fit will not necessarily agree.
-The balance board tells you that you need to stand very far forward on the balls of your feet to maintain good balance. This is a stance that is contrary to everything I know about balance.
On the positive side, I love the hula hoop. It's fun and is a good workout for your core. Boxing is a lot of fun, too. You can also run, which is fantastic for rainy, snowy, or otherwise yucky days when you can't run outside. I end up sweating after about 1/2 an hour of playing the cardio games.
On the whole, if you treat Wii Fit like a game and take it's advice with a grain of salt, you'll have a lot of fun with it. ...more info
- Waste of time and money
While the "game" is fun, it's no replacement for a real workout. I found the time between exercises painfully slow... and when you exclude all the talking and prep work and A-button mashing, you only get about 10 minutes of work out of a 30 minute "workout."
I got the "My Fitness Coach" and it's much more intense than the wii fit. The balance board is basically a gimmick.
After 6 months of light use on the wii fit, I sold mine on ebay for just about what I paid (wasn't in the mood to price gouge). I was disappointed with it and I STILL don't understand all the hype. It's just not that much fun....more info

- WII Fit is Very Cool and Creating Activity Log for a Prior Date
The WII Fit is very cool! I really like the short workouts disguised as games. I only wish you could create your own workout routine. But the Favorites feature, based on what you do the most, works just fine.
I also like that you can enter time for exercise activities outside of the WII Fit. You can enter an activity log for the current date. Or, if you want to enter an activity log for a prior date, you have to first go to the WII menu, go to settings, and change the calendar date to the prior date you want. Don't forget to change the calendar date back to the right date. When you change the calendar date to a prior date, some of your WII Fit Stamps will temporarily disappear. Don't worry. When you change the calendar date back to the right date, the WII Fit Stamps come back....more info

Bought this to improve my balance. Turns out that the whole family enjoys it very much. Everyone wants to try it. With practice, you can get better at the games. - Unique Gaming Experience, Real Exercise a Bonus
I have played over 40 hours of Wii Fit. The game is really well designed, and surprisingly, you will get some real exercise out of it. It is really fun and a unique gaming experience. However, you will probably lose interest after ~3 months. Unfortunately, they don't have a lot of other great games for the board. I have Shawn White Snowboarding and it is only OK.

This is a very good exercise games that give a good sweat and great results if you stay with it regularly. It has all kinds of games for fitness exercise and training your body for balancing composure. It is great for young and older adults but may not be for kids. I'll keep this short. If you want a "real" workout, go with someone to a gym and make sure you also get a good instructor. Short of that, this game will weigh you, set goals, motivate you, improve your balance, give you a short course on a wide variety of exercises, sports, disciplines, and training that I would imagine everyone could learn from. If you are a pro or expert at your sport and train at least three times every week, you will realize the Wii is not the "real thing." As far as combining a broad spectrum of physical tests/games into a video game, the Wii Fit is a truly revolutionary and remarkable procuct....more info

I bought this as a 55th birthday gift for my wife. Now we are using it daily to get healthy and lose weight. This is a great product, and far exceeded my expectations. If you would have told me 6 months ago, that I would be getting up at 5:30 AM every morning to work out with my virtual yoga instructor, I would not have believed you. Both the software and hardware are very high quality; yoga is exciting; strength exercises are motivating; balance games are too much fun! I was really suprised with how the Wii Fit worked. The set up was really simple. The exercises are fun, but challenging at the same time. Only after a week I could see an improvement in my balance. I like how you can adjust to your own level and move at your own pace. The other plus is you do not have to leave your home to go to a gym. After hearing from friends how much fun they were having with their Wii Fit that they got for Christmas, I was anxious to order mine. I haven't been disappointed. - entry level exercise games
We bought this for my wife to start getting in shape. She has enjoyed it. The step aerobic game is very basic, you may need to add a box under the wii fit board to get a good workout. The games are simple and can be fun if you like to compete against someone else for scores and stuff like that.
The best feature is that is keeps a log of your gains/losses in weight, so it is easy to keep track of how you are doing.
But if you are serious about getting in shape skip this product and order the P90X dvd's. It is much more advanced and you will see faster results overall if you put in the effort....more info

The Wii Fit is a nice entertaining way to get some light to medium exercise. Don't expect to get your heart pounding too much unless you really concentrate on the advanced aerobic games. Like most of the other 3 star reviews, the balance board is great; the game is not really a workout. Too much time spent navigating between exercises. The balance games are fun. - Gateway to Other Means of Exercise
I've had my Wii Fit for a little over a month now and have used it every single day. I do around 30 - 45 minutes of exercises with it every morning alongside eating a proper diet. Thus far I've lost a little under 10 pounds (started at about 185.5 lbs).
While I'm sure that simply eating properly would yield similar results within a longer period of time, the Wii Fit helps keep you motivated by tracking your results as well as total time spent exercising.
The running, boxing, and hula-hooping (in that order) are by far the most difficult aerobic exercises in the Wii Fit. I'm 5'11, 29, male, and 176 pounds and can manage to get my heart rate up to 180 bpm by really pushing to excel at any of these three exercises. It's definitely a lot of work if you truly strive to get something out of it.
The Wii Fit also holds back no punches. It will tell you exactly what you need to hear. As an example, a group of friends ventured to The Melting Pot restaurant for a grand dinner filled with an unimaginable amounts of calories and a couple days later... my Wii Fit made me choose the reasons as to why and how I let this happen. I sheepishly chose my selection as my Mii character held his head in shame.
Overall it's been a great purchase. The best part of the Wii Fit is that it's encouraged me to do more exercising outside of the game and I have since started weight training. Friends and family have asked me about it and I tell them that it's been a gateway to other means of exercise. It's quite honestly the best $80 I've spent in quite some time.
- Good all around workout!
WII Fit is a lot of fun and time flies by. As you persevere, new activities are unlocked, so boredom won't set in for a long time. I would probably have never tried yoga otherwise, but I use it on the wii fit and am surprised how hard it it to hold those positions! I've never been good about core training, and this is excellent core training. The only caveat: You must USE it! Don't let it sit unused! As with any workout program, you have to make time in your schedule to do it regularly....more info

When I first heard about Wii Fit I was dubious. Then my hostess on a trip to Italy insisted that I try . . . and immediately was hooked. Have had it for less than a month, and can already see/feel muscles in my arms on my tummy that I haven't had before. My chiropractor is going to be delighted by my yoga-rebalanced body.
