Customer Reviews:

  • These are Great.
My daughter sent me a link to these once, and I decided to try them though they seemed rather odd. (which is why she sent me the link). I love them and have been using them every since.
I can smell *no* aroma from them on the clothes, so when I want to I add essential oils to the water (just a drop does it), and I can have clothes that smell of peppermint, or what ever aroma I want at the time.
They are very easy to use, I think even easier than measuring out liquid or powder detergent and fabric softener. It does well in bringing out the stains and when I need a little 'extra' power I toss in a scoop of Earth Friendly powdered laundry booster. They are great for front load washers!
Two little bags comes along with the *box* of Soap Nuts (didn't get one with the large bag - at least haven't found it yet, might be one in there). And also as an added gift 'with the box' there is a pair of earrings made from two of the smaller soap nuts. Cute.
You can make soap for different uses by soaking the nuts and using the tea from them, which I haven't tried yet but intend to eventually. I like the idea that they are kind to the environment as well...that is a BIG plus as I like to use green and organic products as much as possible.

  • Awesome!
I tell EVERYONE about these. I've been using them for about six months now. I needed something that would wash cloth diapers well, as the other things I was trying were causing leaks and not quite getting them clean. Well, these do! It doesn't matter if there's greasy cream on them, the soap nuts completely get rid of that. People who use other "alternative" detergents have to go through long stripping and washing routines to keep their diapers clean, but not me!

I also use this on ALL our laundry. It comes out clean and fresh-smelling and perfect. I have put a drop of essential oil in with the clothes/diapers before, and that will leave them lightly scented with no chemicals. These solved all my laundry problems and they are SO economical, not to mention environmentally friendly!...more info
  • great little nuts
I was a skeptic that this would work, but did it ever! The one thing I'd warn is that you should avoid using bleach if you're using this. I had some weird smell in my laundry machine after accidentally tossing in some bleach. -_-; Anyways, great for allergies, the dog doesn't even seem to notice that it's been washed with other things. I thought it did really well against some grease stains.

I also love it's versatility. I've used the liquid "tea" from it to soak my clothes, to spray plants with, to make liquid handsoap and to pour into the dishwasher once. Great product....more info
  • Awesome find
I have tried MANY natural products and although I use them because it sure beats toxic chemicals they tend to never work as well. Not the case with the soap nuts...these amazing little nuts work even better than harsh detergents. They leave the clothes smelling clean and fresh. You can also soak them in water and use the liquid for just about any other cleaning purpose. ...more info
  • The best ever laundry soap, bar none!
This stuff works, and it works well. Best results are obtained with warm or hot washes in a front loader machine, however if you need to wash delicate's or wish to use a cold wash, then why not make a "tea" from the soap nuts, either boil a couple of them in a pot or let them steep in some boiling water, then add the cold "tea" to the machine and wash as usual. You'll love the results; clean, fresh, soft, non-irritating and static free, good for people, good for pets and good for the environment. Whats not to love?...more info
  • Soap nuts are all natural....Good for you & the environment
I'm just starting my second bag of Maggie's Soap Nuts. The first bag lasted a very long time, and I was so impressed with the results I had to get more.

I've been on a campaign to try to remove as many harmful petro-chemicals from my daily routine as possible. It takes a lot of research, but well worth it when you find something that's not harmful to you.

Maggie's Soap Nuts are wonderful!! I have Rosacea, so I have very sensitive skin, and what I wash my clothes with is very important. The soap nuts give my clothes a really "fresh" smell, and I no longer have to use any fabric softener. I wash in cold water, so I use 4 to 5 soap nuts for a large load and less if I have a small load. An added benefit is, you use the same bag of nuts for several washes, so they really last a long time. If you somehow grab the bag with your wet clothes and throw it in the dryer with them, don't worry...if the clothes get "sticky" just throw them in a rinse cycle and it comes right off.

This last order I received was a little bit "stickier" than the first, but I guess that happens sometimes in shipping. It doesn't affect how well they wash your clothes, it just means you have to separate them and throw them in the little tie bag that comes with the order.

I can't say enough good things about discovering Maggie's Soap Nuts. If you have sensitive skin like me, give them a try....they're chemical free and all natural. They get your clothes clean & fresh smelling, they last a long time, you don't need fabric softener, and they're all natural, they're just what I've been looking for. ...more info
  • Great laundry soap for sensitive skin
I've had psoriasis for the last 20 years, and since switching over to Maggie's soap nuts I've noticed a definite improvement in my skin. Our clothes are just as clean and smell fresher than they did before. I had to play around a little to find the right number of nuts per load for our washers (4 nuts used twice works for me.) Two thumbs up for soap nuts....more info
  • Soap nuts are great - BUT...???
There are three BIG things that REALLY trouble me about this brand. And I can safely say that I've used them ALL. At one time, there was not much as far as choices, but FAR better sellers have come on the market. Here's my issues:

1 - Terribly inconsistent quality. I've gotten nice ones and others that I almost threw away. I had to pick human or animal hairs (I think both) and dirt out of one box. One time they were nice, clean and dry, another time they were totally gross and gummy. Obviously they are packaged overseas and quality control is horrible. Guess that's the result of cheap labor and less than clean working conditions. I believe they are also subject to being stored or shipped improperly. That may be why I've gotten such sticky "clumps" of soap nuts at times. Being sealed in cellophane may cause condensation build up. I don't know and I don't really care. I simply won't buy them anymore, have found a much better and reliable seller.

2 - Very UN-"GREEN". The cellophane bags, VERY heavily glossy printed boxes (don't think it is recycled), printed EVERYTHING! I thought soap nuts were a part of the green movement. Carbon footprint is something we look at. ALL my friends share this same sentiment. It's like a slap in the face. We are trying SO hard to live greener lives, and these are packaged like this????? It's like they don't care at all.

3 - RUDE!!!! Terrible, terrible, terrible service!!!! I don't even know if there is a Maggie in this company anymore. My intuition says "No", because whoever the MAN was that I called who referred to himself as the "owner" when I last talked to them spent more time bashing his competition than helping me with my VERY SIMPLE question!!! I was checking out all the main sellers to arrange a larger purchase for my church group. We were just trying to buy them cheaper. In the end, I just hung up on him - and that is not like me AT ALL. He didn't care one bit about what I wanted to know. All he wanted to talk about was why they were the best. I was astonished. Here is a QUOTE that I'll never forget, "We are the largest importer in the entire western hemisphere." LOL!!! Like I cared. My whole group only wanted a good simple price on 25 or 35 pounds. I'm really sorry, but the last time I talked to someone with a tone like this was a beer-bellied used car salesman trying to sell me on a piece of junk. Oh, I REALLY appreciated this "owner" telling me about his 1,000 pound minimum - while still bashing EVERYBODY - and AFTER - YES!!!! - AFTER - I had finally squeezed in all that I was looking for. It was unreal...

I'm giving this company TWO stars for two reasons only. They do sell soap nuts. That's one. There probably is a very cool person named Maggie somewhere that actually DID care about us and our environment. That's TWO - and that one is for her alone. Beyond that - ZIP! ...more info
  • Great way to do laundry!
At first when I bumped into these online I thought it was some kind of joke. Then I looked into more and it sounded pretty cool.

You put the soap nuts into a little bag; 4-5 soap nuts in a bag. You can use that batch of nuts for 3-4 loads of wash. No fabric softener needed. Works in cold and hot water and in HE washers.

I have a toddler at home and cats and dogs; we have never had trouble getting our cloths clean with these. They are easy to use and they really do work.

I lost the little cotton bag they sent alone and now I put the soap nuts into socks and tie the socks closed. It's a great use for our loner socks.

Also some people are complaining about the nuts being sticky. That is purely due to the climate they are shipped from and where they are being shipped to. The soap nuts are water sensitive; they like to absorb water. So if they go through a high humidity area the saporin (soapy substance) in the nut will leech out to the surface making them sticky. This is bad because it can make the nuts hard to get apart; the good thing though is that all the substance that does the cleaning is already at the surface of the nut so these "sticky" nuts probably do a quicker and better job cleaning.

I haven't really noticed any difference in results using sticky vs. non-sticky soap nuts. Anyway, these nuts are a keeper. I love them and have been using them for years now....more info
  • Love them!
I've been using soap nuts for my cloth diapers for a while now, and I haven't had any of the stink or buildup issues that I had with other detergents. I love that I can buy my soap nuts in bulk, and they'll last a good long time! ...more info
  • Absolutely wonderful!!!
I found these in my local health food store and I admit I bought the small sample bag more because I was curious than anything. Definitely not what you're used to seeing in the laundry section! When I tried them, though, I was extremely pleased. These work great on everything I wash, including when I was still using cloth diapers on my son. The whole concept of the soap nuts makes me happy, from the fact that they are about as natural as you can get, to the part where I just toss them in the compost pile when I'm done with them. ...more info
  • I <3 Maggie's Soap Nuts!
I use them on my clothes and for washing cloth diapers. For once my baby's cloth diapers don't stink and don't repel and his diaper rash is finally gone! They are just so awesome. ...more info
