Aquasana ? AQ-4100 Deluxe Shower Water Filter System with Adjustable Showerhead
Aquasana AQ-4100 Shower Filter was voted "Product of the Year" by Cosmetology Today Magazine! This unique 2-Stage shower water filter is US Patented, has a high filtering capacity and is easy to install. No tools necessary, although pliers may be helpful. The granular copper/zinc and coconut shell carbon replaceable water filter effectively removes 99% of Chlorine, reduces VOC`s, heavy metals and other chemicals, as well as enhancing pH.
Stage 1 removes chlorine and enhances pH balance with a natural copper/ zinc mineral media called KDF-55D. The second water filtration stage uses a carbonized coconut shell media for the removal of synthetic chemicals and VOCs that vaporize and can be inhaled or absorbed through the skin potentially causing adverse health and cosmetic effects.
Without the harsh influences of chlorine youll notice significant cosmetic benefits. Also by removing chlorine and other chemicals found in tap water, you eliminate health risks related to inhalation and skin absorption of these chemicals... now known to be a significant source of exposure to harmful VOCs (volatile organic chemicals).
Your shower water will feel better, and be better for you. The Aquasana Shower Water Filter provides minimal pressure loss and no change in showerhead height. It`s like showering in natural spring water!
The easily replaceable water filter lasts 10,000 gallons, about 6 months, and installs simply. Comes complete with a deluxe adjustable massage-showerhead.

I just bought two more for my mother's house. She loves them too. You feel so much cleaner after showering with this filter, it is great. ...more info
- Check your municipal water system first.
After I read stories about problems chlorine causes in the shower chlorine I got this filter. It turns out most water systems are using chloramine now, a more stable additive, instead of chlorine and this filter, like most, is ineffective at removing chloramine. See if your water system uses chloramine and save yourself an expensive filter that probably doesn't work....more info
- No More Chlorine Burn
Our shower water used to smell very sharply of chlorine and I would actually feel like my skin was burned after a shower. This really disturbed me because I had read that hot showers in chlorine water increase your risk of cancer. We got the Aquasana filter and the smell and the burning sensation were completely eliminated. I felt that the price of the unit was very reasonable for the peace of mind and the better shower experience, and the shipping was prompt and the customer service quite satisfactory....more info
- Sadly, this filter does not work for long
I have had this shower filter for a little over a year. The first filter unit worked pretty well. I replaced it about 4-5 months ago. Recently it began to spew water sideways from the seam between the filter and the piece that attaches to the plumbing pipe. Tonight I took it apart and cleaned all of the surfaces that screw together. When I turned on the water it spewed BROWN water from that same seam. It looks to me like the filter will no longer allow water to go through it and is sending water sideways through the seam. This particular filter is not old enough to be replaced and therefore I don't understand why it is apparently blocked up. My evaluation is: this product is a waste of money because it does not last much longer than a year....more info
- Excellent Showerhead! Great for people with lousy water pressure.
I recently moved to an older rental. It even has an old fashioned fuse box. The water pressure here is horrible. I thought I'd have to join a health club to get a decent shower... but this little showerhead is somehow able to turn the weak water pressure into a wonderful skin smacking shower! I mean, the water really blasts (I also took out the water saver device, but that did not help when I did that with other showerheads).
As for the filtration... it is excellent. I have been using this product with good results, but only recently with their showerhead.
I used to have red and itchy skin on my back and stomach.. but not since I started using this product....more info
- Poor Product
This product does the exact opposite of what it claims. Instead of removing chlorine and leaving your skin healthier and softer, it actually left a white residue on my skin! After two showers, I decided the product was not healthy for me.
When I asked for a return authorization, the aquasana store reneged on it's 30 day return policy, and stated that it only accepted a return within just FIVE days.
Also, if your unit is defective, they will not cover return shipping costs. YOU foot the bill if they send you something defective.
Let the buyer beware. ...more info
I have been using the Aquasana Shower filter for three weeks and I have noticed that there is less hair in the drain at the end of my shower and my hair looks healthier. I hope to see an improvement in my skin soon!...more info
- We love it!
My husband and I are really happy with this filter. He installed it in about ten minutes. And we really did notice softer skin and hair after the first use. It works great with our low water pressure, too -- the adjustable spray feature gives a wonderful range. We have tried other filters. Some worked okay, but none like this. The water is clean and fresh and hot -- perfect. ...more info
- Didn't notice a difference
I live in Atlanta, and maybe my water is better than I thought (!?!), but I didn't notice any difference at all. The shower head is pretty flexible, but my shower stall is small, so the shower head wasn't adjustable enough for the water to flow at enough of a downward angle, so the water hit me at neck level, which was REALLY annoying! Disappointed, I returned it. Installation was easy, and I didn't have a problem running hot water through it. ...more info
This is the greatest way to keep your skin healthy . After using it we all were so impressed... great quality and value...more info
- Great Product
Product works great. Probably going to upgrade the entire house to a filtration system. Water feels great. My hair is like silk. ...more info
- Good filter, poor housing
This is the best of all the filters I've tried. It's the only one I've found that really removes the chlorine from city water. I recommend it for that reason. The housing, however, has major problems. Twice the seals on the shower filter have come apart soon after I installed it, making it useless. And once I cracked the filter holder when I overtightened the filter. So if you do buy it, be sure to install and test it soon--but don't overtighten!
Aquasana also makes an excellent kitchen tap filter....more info
- Works, and easy to install.
I really like this shower filter. It was very easy to install and makes a noticeable difference. I didn't see any decrease in water pressure or flow, but it does take a short time to see temperature changes when you first set the flow each time you use it....more info
- make a difference with hard water.
i tried another brand for this, but it only dealt with some chlorine. something about the filtration system in this showerhead makes it much better. i get suds a lot easier in the shower, i can squeeze water out of my hair much more easily. i dont experience as much dryness in my skin and hair afterwards. ive only had it for three days but i definitely notice a difference. if this continues, ill be buying replacement cartridges regularly. water pressure is decent, too. fairly strong, but doesnt cause any "pain" which some people might like....more info
- Happy with the product
I got this product through Amazon. It seems like it works good. My wife hasn't felt any different after using it but I have and my skin is a little less itchy.
Another good thing that my wife pointed out was that after cleaning the shower doors of water residue, the formation of new residue is much slower than before. But it might just be our imagination....more info
- The ONLY thing that works!!
Since I moved to the West coast a year ago I've been suffering from a skin irritation on my face around my nose and above my eyebrows. Usually after showers my skin gets really red and raw looking, dries out and flakes heavily and is often taut and burning. This has obviously been a big issue for me and I've often felt too embarrassed to leave the house. Over the months I tried several remedies including various facial creams, soaps, even homeopathic ointments all to no avail.
Then recently I realized that every time I left on holiday for a few days my skin would clear up and regain its moisture. I decided to try a water filter that I saw on TV, which turned out to be totally useless. Finally in desperation I searched the Internet and came across this filter. Not knowing whether it would help i decided to purchase it anyway.
It's been 3 weeks now since I'm using it and i have to say it's like MAGIC!!! I cannot believe what a tremendous impact it's had on my skin. It is no longer itchy, red and scaly. It doesn't dry out and retains its moisture even after a shower. I've stopped applying any cream to my face now because this filter has finally done the job!!
I decided to wait a few weeks to post this review just to make sure i wasn't dreaming! Trust me, if this sounds familiar to you, GET THIS FILTER today!

- Performs as Advertised
I have used the Aquasana shower filter for over 2 years and have been very satisfied. You don't smell any chlorine and will likely see a difference in your hair and skin. For me, my skin isn't as dry during the winter months. But this product isn't perfect. It's bulky and may not allow your current shower head to move in all directions, especially downward (toward the drain). Also, if you have a heavier showerhead you may crack the filter housing when adjusting the showerhead up and down while in use. I'm buying my second filter housing because the first one cracked. If you use the showerhead that comes with the filter, you likely won't run into these problems... But I'm not a fan of that particular showerhead. Overall, this is one of the best filters on the market and any cons are outweighed by the pros....more info
- no difference, and bad filter failure design
my hair responds badly to hard water. Every time I visit another country (anywhere in europe, south america), my hair's noticeably in better condition than when I shower at home (I'm very grateful for nyc having one of the cleanest water in the world, but it wreaks havoc on my hair) After using aquasana for 6 months, I did not notice any difference. Not only that, metallic shavings were being emitted from the water after 6 months. I know that the filter's supposed to be changed, but you'd expect their engineers to design the product to not fail in such a way after the filter's expiration. Is there not a better way for the filter to fail? I do not want pieces of metal in my shower water if I happen to forget the exact week of filter expiration. ...more info
- Buyer Beware
I have a feeling most of the positive reviews on here are from Sun Water employees, even the ones that say "real name."
So I noticed my skin would break out at my apartment, but not when I travelled. I figured out it was the chlorine...my skin hates it. So I bought the Culligan for about $30 and it did a great job, the filters just did not last very long. Then I decided to try this one because I wanted to go a step better. It was a step in the wrong direction. And, after doing some research, I am confident this company is a scam. One, when you connect the filter you have to get rid of all the extra black carbon (the water comes out black at first). After a couple of minutes the water is clear, but a week later I was sill getting black stains on the bottom of my shower (can'be be good for my skin). So I did some more research and found this review:
My skin hated the acquasana filter (it might have made my water worse). It is not NSF certified (the Culligan is; as is the Sprite). There is a reason why Lowes and Home Depot don't carry this brand--it doesn't work and it is not NSF certified. You get the most for your money with the Sprite, which is what I have now. Wish I hadn't wasted my money on this. Oh, and now aquasana calls me every couple of weeks trying to sell me a new filter (I only purchased it a month ago)....more info
- Works well, no problems.
I bought one of these a year ago and noticed an immediate elimination of chlorine odor, and the water seems softer. (We are in a small water district in the mountains where the water is very hard and heavily chlorinated). It is very easy to install, just keep in mind that plumbing fixtures are not meant to be torqued down like the bolts on an auto engine. Snug is tight enough, if it leaks, snug it down just a little more. This will prevent this unit (or any other plumbing fixture) from cracking. Yes, it does take a couple of minutes for the charcoal to flush out during initial use. But the charcoal doesn't stain. Mine came with an extra Grohe shower head, which I like. There is no reduction in water pressure with the unit and Grohe shower head, in fact, it feels like it has more pressure than the old shower head sans filter. After a year of use I did not notice any chlorine smell in the water, but I thought I should replace the filter anyway. When I decided to replace the filter, I bought an entire new unit and relegated the old one to the 2nd bath. In my opinion this is a very well engineered product that works. And it doesn't lower the shower head like competing designs. (I'm 6'5", I don't like squatting while washing my hair). ...more info
- Have noticed quite a difference

- Not bad, not good.
I ordered the Aquasana Pure Shower about three months ago because I have eczema...dry skin that shows up in various places including my scalp. At the moment we don't have softened water where we live and I was hoping that this filter would improve the water quality. I think it did...a little, but not enough to really make a difference to my skin.
For those looking for something to help purify their shower water the Aquasana may help but our water is pretty good where we currently live.
All-in-all I can't really say the Aquasana made much of a difference for me. However for those that have minor skin problems or borderline water quality it may be a good investment. ...more info
- Mostly Tap water containes Chloramine not Chloribe. Be carefull
Lately tap water is disinfected by using Chloramine instead of Chlorine. (Chloramine has Chloride and Ammonia). You should learn which one is used in your region. If it containes Chloramine, this product will remove only chlorine and ammonia will be free. If this product doesn't eliminate Ammonia it is useless. Chloramines can be removed from water with very low flow rates (5 to 10 minutes contact time) through shell-base activated carbon, followed by mineral zeolite media for residual ammonia adsorption.
- thank you!
this aquasana filter is unbelievable .I always had skin problem(scalp itchiness, skin dryness) since I came to US, I suffered for 5 years !! but as soon as I start using this filter my skin problem disappear .I should have bought this product long time ago! ...more info
- One of the best purchases I've ever made
I recently moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Southern California, from a house to an apartment. After moving, my acne started to break out after years of being "in remission." I tried to figure out the cause of my newly developed skin problems, and after numerous changes to my lifestyle, I was about to give up when I noticed that I could smell the strong scent of chlorine after showers. I was told the SF area has great water quality, but out of desperation, I researched shower filters. I found the Aquasana filter to be the best reviewed, so I thought, what the heck, I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel, suck it up and by the thing.
BEST MOVE I'VE EVER MADE. My house in SoCal had a water purification system (softened water); turns out my apartment building chlorinates the water before distributing it throughout the building. After just ONE shower, my skin was showing signs of calming down. I couldn't even catch a whiff of chlorine. The bumpiness went down, and all I have to do is wait for the scarring to go away to return my skin to its former glory. I only wish Aqausana made a filter for the tap, because I have to gather water filtered from the shower just to wash my face.
I TOTALLY RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANYONE WITH SENSITIVE SKIN OR ECZEMA.
- Excellent product!
I am so happy that I purchased the Aquasana Shower Filter. It is worth it as far as I am concerned. There is also a complimentary bar of organic soap that comes with the package. Nice!...more info
- No More Lotion...
I started out by installing a softwater system (700.00+) and it didn't work as well as this. I was a little apprehensive at first it seemed chincy. I've been using it for over two months and it hasn't crapped out yet(2 showers a day). Plus the extra shower head I got with it I put in my guest bath. So I'm very pleasantly surprised....more info
The Aquasana Filter has made a great difference in the texture of my hair. My hair has always been dry/brittle and I have spent tons of money on salon products to try and make my hair healthier. I've only been using the Aquasana Filter for two weeks now and my hair is so soft and so much healthier looking than its ever been. This has worked better on my hair than any salon product I've ever tried for damaged hair. I wish I would've discovered this years ago. ...more info
- More than a must-have...
Doesn't change water pressure at all but it DOES help those with chlorine allergies/sensitivities, acne, asthma, eczema and more. Our family has been using the shower filter for a number of years. It is effective in filtering both city water (chlorine) and/or well-water (iron). It works equally well with both hard and/or soft water. Easy to install and maintain. Thanks to Aquasana's shower filter our family's health has improved in numerous ways. Just try it - you'll see......more info
- product is ok but
*After* checkout and purchase in their website, they showed a thank you note and asked me if I would like to get 'water for life'. by mistake I clicked that and they *instantly* billed 47$ and sent me the two filter catridges (which I can't even use without purchasing their $799 reverse osmosis product). I have sent the item back to them and paid $8.04 to UPS shipping. $8 is my $8 and it matters to me. I don't know if I will get back the $47. ...more info
- Bulky, Pricey...But Works As Advertised
Akin to most Amazon products with multiple reviews, there's something to be gleaned both from the positive AND negative feedback. This is certainly one of thosse products.
First things first: the Aquasana Shower Filter does what it promises. Expect noticeably cleaner and fresher water immediately after installation. I've used this in two different states over a 1.5 year-period. In both instances, the natural odor of the local tap water disappeared completely from my shower after installing this filter, likewise the water gunk ring that used to form after a week or two without it.
Related, this is one wonderful showerhead. I'm amazed with all of the filtration going on (alluded to below), such powerful pressure is produced. The multiple setting showerhead is likewise quite user-friendly, rarely -- once every 8-10 months -- requiring a moderate pore cleaning.
The Aquasana Shower Filter, however, is not perfect. This is one expensive solution to shower filtration. Ditto on filters which cost upwards of $35 (minus shipping), only available online (in most instances). It also weighs a ton + is enormous; if you have old or fragile plumbing, this is NOT the filter for you. Related, shower plumbing with minimal distance between the wall and the location of the shower head (<8 inches) might encounter problems with spacing.
Installation is likewise frustrating, requiring trial and error beyond description (for a moderate DIY'er). Getting the filter on without leaking plus the shower head firmly secure to the plumbing requires sufficient patience. Based on feedback from several reviewers, special caution should also be taken not to overtighten the filters to the shower head (to avoid housing unit cracking).
It also takes a hefty number of water gallons to clean the filter's carbon residue upon initial installation. I often thought I could fill the Erie Canal in the amount of water required to completely flush one Aquasana filter.
In sum: the Aquasana filter might be expensive, an installation bugger, and both large and bulky. It does, however, work quite well. My wife and I easily notice the quality loss (in water hardness, softness, odor, ph, chemicals, etc.) every time we shower elsewhere....more info
- Initial Impression
I will update this review if anything changes, but my first impression is great! Installation was easy, no leaks or problems, the water quality is high, and the pressure is perfect. I was expecting to put up with lower shower pressure in order to have filtered water, but the pressure is just as high as my previous unfiltered shower head. Having the extra shower head for free is definitely a bonus as well!...more info
- Great Filter!!

- What a difference!!!
I've had the filter on my shower now for 2-3 weeks and yes, there is a difference. My hair is fuller, my skin is less dry and the stink of chlorine is not what you smell in my shower anymore!!

- Will Not Last!
We had two of these. The first one broke at the pipe fitting after four months and was replaced. The second one broke in the same place after five months. Today 10-16, the one in our other bath broke at the bottom and shot water out the bottom of the filter. We also went through two Aquasana counter water filters that did the same thing, i.e. cracked and started shooting water everywhere.
I'm amazed that this company has such good feedback. Their products are poorly made and high priced. ...more info
