Product Description

The Yaktrax Walker is designed for people who are looking for an easy-to-use, lightweight traction device for their shoes. Ideal for pedestrians, the elderly, business people or anyone who wants greater stability on ice and snow. Use the Yaktrax Walker while walking to and from work, school or just to the mailbox.

Looking for an easy-to-use, lightweight traction device for your shoes? Turn to the spikeless Yaktrax Walker traction cleats, which offer 10 times the gripping points as any spike-based traction device. Ideal for pedestrians, the elderly, businesspeople, or anyone else who wants greater stability on ice and snow, the Yaktrax Walkers are terrific for walking to and from work, school, or even the mailbox down the street. (Mountain climbers should consider the Yaktrax Pro cleats, which are designed for more arduous conditions.)

Each Yaktrax Walker is made out of an injection-molded thermal plastic elastomer that's lightweight yet durable. The coils are also protected against rusting, with a hand-wound design that provides 360 degrees of traction on ice and snow. Every step you take in the Yaktrax Walker places hundreds of biting edges in direct contact with the ice beneath your feet, with the high-strength horizontal coils providing forward and backward stability while the vertical coil pattern provides side-to-side stability. And thanks to the sturdy outerband--which conforms to the length and width of your boot or shoe--the cleats fit securely throughout the day but slip off in an instant.

Suitable for temperatures as low as -41 degrees F, the Yaktrax Walkers have been approved and recommended by the National Health & Wellness Club and the Handyman Club of America. The Yaktrax Walkers are available in extra-small, small, medium, and large sizes.

Features:
  • Traction cleats designed to help you walk on packed snow or ice
  • Made of lightweight, durable injection-molded plastic elastomer
  • Hand-wound design provides 360 degrees of traction on slippery surfaces
  • Offers 10 times the number of gripping points as spike-based traction devices
  • Safe in temperatures as low as -41 degrees F; available in XS, S, M, and L sizes

Customer Reviews:

  • Yaktrax's are the best
Yaktrax's are unbeatable. They give the greatest traction in all icy conditions. I run a high mountain camp and have tried many ice traction devises. In icy conditions, CAUTION, is always the most important factor, no matter what the devise. In walking indoors all devises can be hazardous, it depends on the care you use while walking. My staff and I have used Yaktrax's for years. For inside staff, regular Yaktrax's are the best. They put them on to walk from their cabin or car to the office and pop them off once inside. For my outside staff, the Yaktrax Pro's can't be beat. They are rugged and don't ware out. The strap over the front of the boot keeps them in place in most situations. When coming inside it is best and easiest to slip the boots off and to step into indoor shoes. For long Life - take a little time - when putting "Trax's" on, make sure they slip into the grooves in the soles of the boots and if the end of a spring starts to catch, use a pair of pliers to squeeze it back into place. The Yaktrax Pro's I have on now have lasted me for three years and counting....more info
  • Great for the intended purpose!
These have been great for walking around in the cold MN weather. This year especially has seen warm ups and below frezzing conditions creating massive ice conditions all around. These have been a lifesaver walking around my back yard on ice. I chronically dislocate my knees and elbows walking and falling down and these have provided some sense of security walking around. These are intended for walking as the name implies and I certainly would not go running out on an ice rink with them. They still have a little slip on really icy areas, but it is definately less than just shoes!...more info
  • Lifesavers
These cleats work beautifully on ice - the glow in the dark color makes them easy to find in case one comes off in a sleighriding adventure!...more info
  • Yay for Yaktrax
An absolute necessity for a Wisconsin Winter with a 60 pound border collie mix pulling you down the ice-skating rink of a sidewalk!
They were delivered in 2 days. Great buy!...more info
  • They are for shoes like chains are for tires!
I love these YakTrax! You still need to be cautious when you're out walking in the winter, but you're a lot more sure of NOT falling down unless you are just on sheer ice. I bought five pair for Christmas gifts, and have gotten very grateful responses, as we have been having a very snowy, icy winter here....more info
  • Good Purchase
This item was exactly what I expected. The item came within a week or so. All aspects of this purchase were satisfactory. ...more info
  • Worth the price
I just got back from a 13 mile hike in the mountains of Ruidoso,NM and bought these to go along with some hiking shoes. Unfortunately the shoes hadn't come in and so I had to put these on tennis shoes and they were incredible. Never slipped once on the snow or frozen creeks. Worth the price you pay!!...more info
  • no more slipping on the ice!
These are the best thing to come along since sliced bread! I was always afraid to walk to my car or the mailbox any time there was some ice on the sidewalk and road. I've slipped and injured myself too many times. The first time I tried these, my sidewalk was a sheet of ice. I not only didn't fall, I didn't slip once! The person who invented these deserves a medal!...more info
  • They really work!
After the first freezing rain this winter, it took me forever to walk on the parking lot and sidewalks to work. That night, I ordered Yaktrax. They arrived quickly, and the next week, more ice! What a difference! I could walk across the pavement with no fear of falling. Take them off before walking on shiny indoor floors, though....more info
  • Yaktrax
These are excellent. We bought them to prevent me from slipping with my broken ankle. They offer stability on the ice. Good idea!...more info
  • Slippery? Not anymore.
I slip on the ice all the time. But with my new Yaktrax I can walk over the ice with confidence. I love my Yaktrax and won't walk on the ice without them. The downsides are that they must fit your boot tightly making them a little tough to put on. And they come off when I walk through snow that's more than an inch deep. But even with these downsides I'd never be without and would recommend them....more info
  • Essential for winter running
These are essential for winter running on ice. The only problem is that if you end up running on too much snow, it will bunch up beneath your feet and make them pretty useless. They definitely give you traction on ice though, so they are great for preventing injury....more info
  • 4-wheel-drive for your feet
These are wonderful. My driveway is flat, in the shade, and in snow country -- it is solid ice for months of the year. These are lifesavers.

The only complaint I have with THESE particular YakTrax is that I lost one within days of receiving them. It apparently slipped off my boot. I was hooked on them after using them just a couple days, so went to a local store and bought another pair. The pair from the store is half again as wide coming up over the sole of the boot and is way less likely to come off. They also have the YakTrax name on the section at the toe of the boot instead of the back. It's a much different design (the bottom is the same) and a better fit than the ones from Amazon.

I ordered the bright green from Amazon and the lost one showed up in the middle of my yard a few days after I bought a replacement pair. Both sets are in use! ...more info

  • Yaktrax and us
My wife and I live with two Viszlas. These dogs love to romp afield. The result is we spend at least an hour or more a day walking, some times leashed to these two on our morning trundle but mostly where they can freely run on the trails and roads of a state-owned wildlife preserve here in Central New York.

In the summer we grab our Nordic walking sticks and put in a couple of miles a day.

Winter creates special problems. The unplowed roads of the state land are used by snowmobilers and skiers, and more often than not are slick with ice or hard-packed snow.

Yaktrax allow us to remain active in the winter. The traction provided is outstanding. In almost all conditions we have been able to traverse the ice-slick byways of the wildlife area, an activity we would never attempt wearing ordinary hiking boots.

Back in civilization, the Yaktrax have many times provided safety in slippery situations as they have the advantage of being easy to put on and remove. For local errands we carry regular Yaktrax in the car.

We use the Yaktrax Pro for our longer daily hikes. The combination of Yaktrax Pros on hiking boots and our walking sticks means we are very seldom stymied by poor walking conditions. ...more info
  • almost perfect, but not quite.
I bought these yaktrax last winter on sale after all the snow had fallen. this year, I was excited to try them out. I tried these out in packed snow, fluffy snow, nearly 'dry' slush, wet slush & uphill on flat ice. first, do not bother with these on new, fresh, fluffy snow. I didn't think these cleats could be clogged with the wide diamond design, but they can & will to the point where you feel you have minimal or no traction. this is also true of dry slush/driven snow, but not quite as bad. walking though wet slush may clog your cleats insignificantly but some stability may still be lost here. depending on the size of your shoe & placement of the coils, you may feel as if your walking across an uneven surface. walking on ice will still be tricky but I do feel the metal coils dug in or at least scratched into the surface to provide me with SOME traction. I found the icy uphill walk to be slightly less difficult then the same walk without the yaktrax. on packed snow, like what you might see on your front steps, these this will work at their best.
over all, if your mindful of where your going and what's out there, these will HELP you get there without slipping. they will not prevent you from slipping.
if you typically wear nike shox, you may want to wear these with a different sneaker. I feel your stability in wet slush & in general would be improved with a wider heel. I wore my yaktrax mostly in a pair of nike shox... so your review may differ slightly from mine.
I gave the yaktrax cleat 4 stars based mostly on it's performance in packed snow and on ice. when it comes to ice, I'll gladly take all the grip I can get.

  • Great Product
This really is a great product. I can walk the dog and not worry about slipping. The only thing I would advise is to put them on your boots or shoes first and then put on the boots. They really have a snug fit and it's easier to do it this way....more info
  • Yaktrax Walker Traction Cleats for Snow and Ice

  • Great for getting around on ice!!!
This was a gift for my 73 year old Mother and she was blown away on how well they work. She likes to keep in shape in the winter and walks outside so the YakTrax were the ideal gift for her so she feels more stable walking on ice and snow. Now I want to get a pair.
Great product and would suggest it to anyone.

  • Yaktrax Are Awesome!
Everything was solid ice this morning and cars were fishtailing. I was not looking forward to the one mile walk to work from the parking garage. But I put on my Yaktrax and while other people were walking in snow to avoid the ice, I was able to keep my usual pace on the ice sidewalk. The grip is great. The only thing is to remember to take them off as soon as you get in to your building, on solid, non-carpeted, indoor flooring, you may actually slip....more info

Overpower your northeast winter wonderland with these ice coils that help you walk vigorously
while not slipping on ice! Walk year round, but one caveat: They do fall off now and then--
so stretch them on tight and keep an eye on them. I've been able to find mine on the road but
they can easily get lost....more info
  • YakTraxs no. Kahtoola Microspikes yes.
I went through two YakTraxs this year. Wore one pair in three storms last year. The other was brand new. Both tore apart while shoveling ice off my driveway this year. YakTraks are good for casual walking or for an emergency, like leaving in your car. The bottom springs on YakTraxs cut the "delicate" rubber assembly apart otherwise. I started searching for another option and stumbled upon Kahtoola Microspikes. They are fantastic. At first it seems a little difficult to put them on, but the system is really simple once you get it. It's a slip on like the YakTraxs, but the system and assembly is rigorous, well constructed and solid. They look and act like snow chains for your boots. The spikes are large enough to keep you from slipping, but small enough not to get stuck in the ice or ground. The chains give additional "full foot" traction. The hour and a half mountain trail hike I just finished with my dog had over an inch of ice and almost an inch of fresh snow. The Kahtoola MicroSpikes performed perfectly. I didn't slip once and the Microspikes didn't slip on my boots either. They stayed exactly in place - another issue I had with YakTraxs. I too wouldn't wear these inside my home, but would at a ski lodge. They wouldn't do anymore damage then ski or snowboard boots. I'm very, very satisfied with the Kahtoola Microspikes and will never buy YakTraxs again....more info
  • seemed like a good idea
Tried them out today for the 1st time. Was a little difficult to get them on my boots but not bad considering I have not used them before. Walked over some snow to get to the sidewalk and 1 came off. OK, I figured I just didnt get them securely on. Put it back on and walked again through the snow and it came off again. Put it in my pocket and decided to walk with the 1 to see how it worked. Crossed the street and walked through a small amount of snow again and the other one came off too. Not only would they not stay on my feet, they are clear and very difficult to see in the snow. My guess is that they probably work really well on ice but there cannot be any snow. If you choose to buy them try and find something other than clear so if they do come off you can find to return, which is what I am going to do...more info

A fellow dog walker recommended this product on one of the icier days this winter and it's been a godsend. With these on, I can walk on the ice more confidently than my puppy. • Yaktrax Walker Ice Cleats - Black - Small
Pretty pleased with these. The coils do make the bottom of your shoe slightly uneven, so it takes a little while to get used to that, but they really will save you from slipping if your winter involves a lot of ice. The coils grip onto the slick ice and I can walk out on any of our frozen lakes here with no problem. Great for getting around town on bad days! Be sure to take them off indoors: if the coils don't have anything to grip onto they can be really slick (i.e. grocery store floor linoleum.) ...more info

  • Must have for walking in ICE and SNOW!
I have had a set of these for about two months. Here in Ohio, we are more plagued with ice than snow, and after wrecking my ankles this summer (one for the second time!), I was extremely paranoid about continuing my two daily 1+ mile walks with my dog.

These are easy to slip on my hiking boots (I wear a women's 9.5 - the smalls are a snug fit), and work brilliantly on the glassiest of ice-slicks. I have found that I am able to keep up my usual pace, and have a lot of security in footing on both sheer ice and all kinds of snow and slush.

Caveat! I don't think they were meant for as much use as I've given them! We've had an extremely icy winter, and my neighborhood is never salted - so I've worn these more often than not, and sometimes, there will be expanses of non-slushie road between the ice slicks, and I think the constant concrete walking took a tole. One of the bands across the ball snapped, leaving the spring loose. It was possible, however, to keep walking on the loose spring - and I have now used pliers to wire that spring across to the opposite side, still creating an effective traction point. But, because of this, I am going to get the Pro version of this. I am sure that for normal use, these would have held up just fine!...more info

  • Works Great!
I used my Yaktrax this season to hike up and down a ski mountain to watch the races. I was the only one (other than those with yaktrax!) to make it up and down in normal strides and without slipping or falling. Would highly recommend them to anyone who is out on snow or ice a lot. Easy to put on, too! One small problem: I had to look down at my shoes periodically because one fell off a few times. But if you just make sure the yaktraks are spread completely across the shoe and up the sides of the shoe, you won't have a problem. And the dayglow green really does glow in the dark just a bit! I would (and have) recommend this product to others. ...more info

  • Doesn't live up to claims for very cold smooth ice
I'm giving this product a poor rating because the claims they make about no slipping on ice hasn't proved true for me. I live in the far north, and there is no concrete or asphalt visible from November until late March, even on plowed roads. As we're getting older and bones can break, I bought a pair of these for myself, my spouse and an elderly neighbor last year. All three of us fell on the slick driveway, more than once. To be fair, the device does help some with catching yourself. But the claims that you can run on the ice are simply not true, at least not on all types of ice with all types of hardness. So, after sixty dollars plus for three pairs, I have an unusable product to clutter my home. I think businesses really need to be more responsible with the claims they make on a product. People are trying to be careful with money. Spending this amount and still falling is really disappointing because I needed to spend the money on something to keep us from getting injured. ...more info

This is an excellent product for anyone who lives where it snows or it's icy. Last year I slipped on our ice in the driveway so I thought I'd give these a try. It's just like walking on dry land. My wife had been on me for years to try these since I work outside. Since we only get snow/ ice maybe 10-20 days a year here I just did not bother. Well we got a real good dumping of snow (for us) that came with 20 deg weather for a couple weeks. I finally gave in and tried these. I don't know why I waited. I went from slipping all over trying to walk in the packed ice, to almost feeling like I was walking on bare dry ground. They are amazing. Easy to put on and off, and they just work great. ...more info

  • These are a must if you can't afford a fall on the ice.
I walk with a cane, which is equipped with an ice cleat as well. I have a very bad back which causes me constant pain. Falling on the ice is something that can and has in the past required me to spend time recovering in the hospital. I had often simply stayed home-bound until ice melted because of my fear of falling until I found these shoe cleats.

They are something I simply can not live without now. I live in Indiana which is subject to frequent ice storms. The area is often covered in a uniform layer of very slick ice that is impossible to walk on for a person in good shape, let alone me.

Since finding these Yaktrax Walker Traction Cleats, I am able to check my mail, drive carefully to the store and go on and live my life normally without the constant fear of slipping and falling on the ice during the winter. They have given me back the freedom that I lost in the work accident that disabled me. If this all seems a bit much, well I guess it might be but if you had the same trouble walking that I do...

If you live in an area prone to slippery ice patches, you should have a pair of these on your shoes. They go on and are remove easily, don't mar a floor and give you a sure footing on a slippery surface. I can't imagine a better product for basic, winter outdoor safety....more info
  • Dog Walking Winter
Our newest dog which we got late spring is young and pulls while we walk. With the onset of a brisk Chicago winter, I knew this dog would pull while walking down a patch of ice and I would "eat it." Yak Trax prevent this 100%. I can even run with the dog on the ice and stop without falling. So if you are walking an energetic dog through a neighborhood that isn't so thorough on salting/shoveling, this product will save your sorry arse and hips from injury....more info

At first worked great. After wearing outside (in the ice & snow) a dozen times or so the rubber frame snapped. I can still wear them. I have noticed the rubber frame on the other Yaktrax is wearing also. These were the green elastomer, maybe the black wear longer.
Can't justify buying a pair every year. Would have to say these would be good to keep in the car, for short time use only...more info
