Customer Reviews:

  • tasty tuna
This tuna is quite pricey, however the fact that it has lower levels of mercury and higher levels of omega-3's is important. The tuna tastes very fresh and has a nice texture. It's much less fishy tasting compared to supermarket brands. I would recommend this product....more info
  • Low Mercury But. . .
. . .otherwise, I was unimpressed. The tuna is packed without water or oil. When you open the can, you're greeted with 2 or 3 large lumps of tuna and a stray speck of skin here and there, all coated with a gel that I suppose is natural but is decidedly unappetizing. I couldn't eat the tuna without washing it so I was left with a handful of a soggy substance that tasted a lot more like chicken than tuna. My husband likes it. I prefer Crown Prince. Twice as much tuna for about the same price....more info
  • wild planet tuna
I recently moved to Florida and could not find this product in a grocery store nearby I was happy to find a source to order this product. It is the best canned tuna I have ever tasted. I searched for a product that had the least amount of Mercury and found Wild Planet.
When you order on line, there is no shipping fee. I love it!...more info
  • wonderful
My family eats a lot of tuna, and this is truly the best tasting tuna we've ever had (sorry Charlie!) - I liked it so much that I sent a case to my parents - The health benefits are really a bonus. Buy this tuna because it tastes so fresh. I have yet to find it in any grocery stores, even the health food stores. Thank you Amazon!...more info
  • Highly recommended
Low in mercury high in flavor and omega 3's, if you run out and try and eat regular store bought canned tuna you will instantly be reminded why you switched to this product. This product is in a different category than your standard canned tuna it has excellent taste and texture, try it with a little olive oil and balsamic vinegar....more info
  • Very good
Have a hard time buying anything else knowing what I know about mercury and the dangers of it. ...more info
  • Excellent!
A bit pricey, admittedly, but now that our young son finally likes tuna sandwiches, it's not that expensive compared to other sources of protein, plus there's all the beneficial effects of fish oil. We see rather convincing arguments on both sides of the mercury question and figure it's best to play it safe. Delicious, by the way....more info
  • Best low mercury tuna fish
I was given a sample of this tuna at the food show in NY last year. It tastes so much better than my BB white albacore tuna. The main point is that it is very, very low in mercury, and is as safe as it gets. I was so glad to order from you because you sell it at a lower price than the manufacturer....more info
  • healthy but pricey
Since canned tuna is one of my husband's mainstays, I was grateful to find this tuna that contains minimal mercury. However, it is fairly expensive. My other objection is the shoddy packing job: although this is sold as "packs of six" the cans do not travel in a sleeve and are just thrown helter skelter into the shipping carton, so they do get dented on the way. For the price, more careful packing would have been appreciated!...more info
  • Taste in a can (without the mercury)
I really enjoy the taste and texture of this tuna. It is moist and not too salty, and is delicious on crackers or just tossed into a salad. A lovely way to get those necessary EFAs without having to cook fish. The can does say "minimal mercury" and I certainly hope this means negligable, as it is one of the best tasting canned tuna and certainly worth the extra cost. There are times when health concerns make the extra cost so irrelevant. I wish my children would at least try this option as it is so tasty, but neither will think of eating fish and they say it even smells like fish (I am able to ignore the smell of delicious foods that are healthy to eat, even if the smell is strong and I guess the smell is ....well....like tuna fish). Perhaps one day if hidden in a roll up or a grilled tuna sandwhich they will succumb....more info
  • Expensive, but the best
This is the best tasting tuna I've ever had. And the fact that it is low in mercury is very important. See the Wild Planet website for more info on this topic....more info
  • Wild Planet Tuna - Terrific!
The price is right, shipping inexpensive (much less than gas to a store), and the tuna tastes superb. We're thrilled to have a green source of small tuna that we can afford....more info
  • Best Tuna
My nutritionist recommended Wild Planet tuna and I'm glad she did. I recently had an episode which landed me in ICU for a week and luckily came away with a chance to improve my already healthy diet. This product is part of my new life and I highly recommend everyone who is looking to improve their health to try this wonderful tuna!...more info
  • Politically Correct Fish - Smells Good Too

Or should I say it's not too fishy; this according to my wife, equipped as she is with an ultra keen olfactory capability.

Looking at the label, you know right away that this isn't any ordinary tin of tuna. "Minimal mercury", it proclaims. "Troll caught". This would seem to be a good method to capture these bad boys because, you guessed it, they are "Wild".

All this seemed a bit too much like hype so I checked out the Wild Planet web site and came across even more political correctness. There we read, "Wild Planet, Inc., is dedicated to the conservation of wild marine ecosystems. The preservation of biodiversity and the symbiotic interdependence of all life on this planet is a paramount concern to all future generations. At Wild Planet, Inc. the long-term health of the wild biosphere takes priority. Balance in harvesting while preserving marine resources is the goal of Wild Planet, Inc."

Hmm. This one paragraph uses the word "wild" five times...

But digging a bit deeper one recognizes that this isn't hype after all. For instance, on the matter of "minimal mercury" we learn, "The troll-caught albacore in the North Pacific fishery is lower in mercury because these migratory fish are smaller (about 9 to 25 pounds) and younger (three to five years old) than the long-line caught older fish that reach up to 70 pounds after ten to fifteen years of growth. Naturally, the longer a fish lives and feeds, the more it bio-accumulates mercury.
While all fish caught along the West Coast are low in mercury compared to overseas fish, we have taken the quest to produce the safest possible product one step further. As our employees unload the fishermen's catch at our docks, they separate the 9 to 12 pound fish from the rest of the load. We send these mostly three-year-old fish to our cannery in South Bend, Washington. These are the only fish contained in the `minimal mercury' product. We call it "minimal mercury" because it is lower than low in mercury."

    Now I'm impressed...

And how does this tuna taste? It's delicious - mild, flakey, but flavorful.

Highly recommended. You'll feel like you're saving the planet when you chomp down on that tuna fish sandwich....more info
  • Have you ever tasted TUNA Before?
For me the health benefits of this product are just icing on the cake. I buy this product for the Taste. This Tuna is like no other Tuna on the market. When you open the can you notice a large peice of fish with the natural oils. Unlike the chopped up, processed product you're used to. With your first bite you realize you may have never really tasted quality Tuna before. ...more info

This tuna is really as good tasting as the other reviewers have testified. It's pure white, solid, and rich tasting. Best I've ever had....more info
