Product Description
At last! This special cookbook puts flavor and choice back on the menu for people with diabetes and their families Betty Crocker, America's most trusted friend in the kitchen, has teamed up with the International Diabetes Center (IDC)--one of the leading medical centers--to create an indispensable source of easy-to-make recipes and up-to-the-minute food and nutrition information for the growing numbers of people who have diabetes, more than 15 million of them. Here is the first cookbook to include recipes featuring Carbohydrate Choices--the new, simplified approach to meal planning recommended by the American Diabetes Association. For people who find diet exchanges too hard, too limiting or too much work, this new method is a real breakthrough. Each of the book's 140 recipes shows the number of Carbohydrate Choices per serving, so that planning the rest of the meal is easy. From Old-Time Beef and Vegetable Stew to Creamy Vanilla-Caramel Cheesecake, the recipes are made with everyday ingredients, including sugar. No food groups or ingredients are left out, so there's no need for anyone to feel deprived or restricted to a special diet. Food exchanges are also included, making it easy for those who still count calories. Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook is also packed with expert medical and nutrition tips from Dr. Richard Bergenstal, an endocrinologist and diabetes doctor, and two registered nurses--invaluable for the newly diagnosed as well as for those who have been coping with diabetes for years. Throughout the book, real-life advice from people who have diabetes offers inspiration and great ideas on dealing with this chronic disease. When it comes to eating and living with diabetes, people need guidance and advice they can trust.

I waited anxiously for the cookbook to arrive and I was extremely disappointed when it did. I did not find a single recipe I will ever use for my family. I have found extremely good recipes free on the internet and will continue to use the internet as a source for tasty healthy recipes rather than this book....more info - Fantastic
I bought one for my girlfriend as she was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, then I saw all the generous and appealing and perfectly normal recipes, very healthy and bought one for me! And I am not anywhere near diabetic, just eat sensibly. ...more info - Cookbook review
Nice cookbook. Came in good condition, at least one inside stain but it came promptly and was in the condition I expected. The nutritional labels, like what are on can labels, is a good idea and makes it easy to see what the serving size is and the calorie and nutritional values are....more info - cook book

Betty Crocker did just that and I can prepare his meals and know exactly what the carbs are without any difficult. This book is for anyone who wants to be healthy. I gave the other copy of the book to his grandmother. I highly recommend this book and it want take long to prepare a nice healthy meal for a diabetic. And, it's easy to read.

I bought this book as a gift for a friend of mine who recently discovered that he was diabetic. The book was great. Who doesn't love Betty Crocker? Very affordable, the order or the recipes flowed nicely. The quality of the book was exceptional with great graphics and details that any cook would love. Loaded with receipes that everyone can eat, plus a reference chapter that talked about the diabetic condition and establishing a healthier life style (something we all could do). Of course this doesn't take the place of seeing a doctor, but it was very informative. Would highly recommend for anyone and everyone. ...more info - Great Source of Information

This cookbook is one of the best diabetic cookbooks around and I thank Betty Crocker for allowing us poor diabetics the priviledge of reading it. I particularly like the fact that she gives a Carbohydrate choice scale number at the top of each recipe and that at the end she gives a neutrition table for each recipe. These are extremely helpful to a new diabetic. Also the recipes are very easy to read and follow. I would recommend this book to any diabetic who wishes to cook and eat regular food instead of all the bland stuff that the doctors and neutritionists try to say that a diabetic must eat.
...more info - Who cares about refined carbohydrates, this bookis great!
Our nutritionist says to simply watch the amount of carbs. They haven't told us to stay away from anything. My husband is a picky eater so I didn't have a lot of options until I got this cookbook! We have tried 8 of the 21 recipes my husband would eat and they have all been a hit. I have never been interested in cooking before and so I am not only learning how to cook for a diabetic but also learning how to cook. This is a must have for every diabetic but especially for a picky eater!...more info - Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook

This is the best book I have found so far with recipes for the diabetic. I was just recently diagnosed and dreaded having to change my cooking plans. This book has provided "regular" recipes and has given me some great menu ideas. You don't need a library of diabetic cookbooks - you just need this one. I use it everyday!!!...more info - Great Cookbook!
My husband was recently diagnosed with diabetes. He had to change his eating habits immediately. This book made it so easy to come up with tasty recipes. He loved everything I cooked and never felt he was missing out on the "bad" foods. I really liked the insert telling us how many starches etc. in each dish. ...more info - Great CookBook
I was very happy with this cookbook. The recipe are simple and made with REAL food. ...more info - ok but not what I was looking for
I was hoping for more recipes for the average household trying to get
diabetes under control. I would not recommend this unless you can afford to buy off the wall products you don't normally keep in your house...more info - This cookbook is dangerous for diabetics
I received this cookbook as a gift so I can't offend the giver, but it is by far one of the worst cookbooks that a diabetic could possibly use. Not that it isn't pretty, and not that it doesn't contain many luscious looking dishes, but almost every recipe calls for either sugar or flour or other sugary or starchy ingredients - all catagories included, not just desserts - none of which a diabetic should ever eat. The somewhat confusing use of 'carbohydrate choices' is further dangerous, because one - and only one - 'carb choice' is worth 15 grams of actual carb and by combining several foods from this book into a single meal plan, one will be way over the limit for safety. The menu plans in the back of the book prove this - add up the number of carbohydrate choices in any one day's meal plan, and you get between 15 and 17 carb choices. Multiply that by 15 and you are looking at nearly 300 grams of carb a day. What people don't realize (because they have not been told by doctors and 'diabetes educators' who do not for some reason, continue their education in metabolism) is that the word SUGAR should be substituted for any carbohydrate. In fact, The American Diabetes Association is still using decades-old protocols which encourage huge amounts of carbs in a 'diabetic diet' that invariably fails to manage the disease. A safe and sensible diet for a diabetic either on or off insulin, must restrict sugar and starch of any kind because within minutes of hitting the bloodstream it all turns to pure glucose and out of control insulin production - the cause of diabetes. Feeding yourself more sugar only hastens complications, and they can be very bad indeed. Virtually all good low carbohydrate diets restrict carbs (sugar!) to 50 or less per day - not 50 'choices' but 50 actual carbs. I myself, a diabetic, cannot tolerate more than 30 or 40 carbs a day to maintain decent blood glucose control, and less is better if I can do it. When a disease such as this has the potential to rob one of their eyesight, kidneys, limbs, and life itself if not properly managed - it is ludicrous to demand that one be allowed daily potatoes and pastas and cereals and sugary desserts. Anyone wishing to help themselves try and maintain safe blood glucose levels before it's too late should instead purchase 'Dr. Bernstein's Diabetic Solution' - a Type 1 diabetic himself, he has helped millions prolong their lives with proper diet. He doesn't sell anything, he doesn't do anything but be virtually the best diabetes doctor in this country. Another extremely informative and widely respected book is 'Good Calories' Bad Calories' by Gary Taubes. Other resources are all over the internet. One's life is worth the effort to do the research....more info - The 30 Day Diabetes Miracle is more helpful in controlling blood sugar!
I highly recommend the 30-Day Diabetes Miracle series for managing your diabetes and creating a whole new healthy lifestyle!

I love this book. It is the one book I recommend to newly diagnosed diabetecs because it counts your choices for you. My non-diabetics friends are always asking for recipes from this book. I have a number of other diabetes books, buying this one because we like our Betty Crocker Red Book so much. Easy to make snacks and desserts. ...more info - Count on it
Just like all Betty Crocker books, this one's easy to use and full of practical recipes. I was happy to give it to a friend newly diagnosed with diabetes so we wouldn't worry that eating would have to be dull and difficult....more info - I haven't used it yet.
Upon opening it, it looks interesting. However, I have not used it yet. Try me back in 6 months. ...more info - Decent Recipies
I originally purchased this cookbook for my father who is a diabetic that loves to cook. He loves the recipies in there and told me about them. I'm not diabetic but am very conscious of what and how I cook for the family, genetics being any indication for our future. I purchased one for myself. It is good, the recipes give you the nuitritional information and the carbohydrate counts for each one. It has a variety of foods in there to please just about every taste. The steps are easy to follow and you don't have to be a gourmet to accomplish a satisfying dish. ...more info - Good but not great!
Good book but not great. Very limited and not all that exciting. Better off modifying your own stuff....more info - Great starter cookbook for newly diagnosed diabetic!
Wonderful hardcover cookbook. Very useful information not found in any of the other diabetic cookbooks. Great recipes and I really like the illustrations. We're making the caramel cheesecake for Thanksgiving. Easy 1,2,3 system to track carb levels....more info - Finally a cookbook for diabetics that calls for "real" ingredients!
Most cookbooks I've seen for diabetics call for all sorts of "fake" ingredients that I find totally unappetizing. This book, however, uses mostly "real" ingredients and has recipes that the whole family can enjoy. One of the horrifying things about being a diabetic is being "different", having to eat "different" foods and substitutes for the real thing. The recipes in this book sound really appetizing and the pictures make me want to run to the market so that I can start cooking. There are even dessert items like Double-Berry Muffins that don't call for any strange ingredients. It even gives you a choice of using a real egg or a fat-free, cholesterol-free egg product if you have a cholesterol problem. I admit I haven't read ALL the recipes yet, but of all the ones I HAVE read, the ingredients are readily available in regular supermarkets. No special trips to the health food store required. I would highly recommend this cookbook for diabetic who, like me, don't like to feel deprived and don't like to eat a lot of fake ingredients. (They give me gastric problems!)...more info - Diabetic Cookbook- Betty Crocker

This is an excellent book. It has many yummy recipes that are easy to prepare. There is a catb content rating for each recipe. When my husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last month, I purchased this cookbook because I was unfamliar what the best way to cook for him, but the recipes in here are delicous and easy. A great purchase....more info - Betty Crocker's Diabetes Cookbook
This book makes it easy to come up with different foods to cook. With three diabetics in the house it is sometimes difficult to come up with new things to eat, including deserts. This book solves that problem....more info - A Good Place to Start
I've read the mixed reviews on this product, and I feel like both are merited. If you're new to cooking on a diabetic diet (or just a healthier diet), then this is a very good place to start. Recipes are simple and use everyday food items, and the nutrition content is included for every meal. If you're more experienced, though, the recipes are more "food for thought" to provide ideas. There's PLENTY of room to make them more nutritious--for example, one especially tasty-looking entry calls for a highly refined rice ingredient that provides very little nutritional value. Instead of using it as written, try substituting brown rice and adding your own seasonings (I use a brown and wild rice mixture and add thyme, shallots, etc.). The nice thing about this cookbook is that there's plenty of flexibility to make a recipe "yours" by modifying ingredients to your own taste and nutritional preferences....more info - A Great Gift
This was a gift for my mom who cooks for my dad who was just diagnosed with diabetes. She loves it. She told me she has looked at other diabetic cookbooks but was not impressed with any of them. This one is full of usable recipes and info both her and my father can use to support him through this disease. ...more info - diabetes cookbook
This is an easy cookbook to follow. It gives everything you need to know and ingredients that are usually in your kitchen....more info - GREAT COOKBOOK!!!!
WE JUST FOUND OUT A FEW WEEKS AGO THAT MY SWEET HUBBY HAS DIABETIES. SO I CAME HERE TO FIND A COOKBOOK TO HELP ME FEED HIM GOOD NUTRICIOUS MEALS. WHEN I RECIEVED IT I WAS SUPRISED TO FIND INFORMATION ABOUT DIABETES AND IT HELPED ME AND HIM TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HIS CONDITION. AS HIS DR. TOLD HIM, "YOU CAN EAT MOST ANYTHING, JUST WATCH YOUR CARBS AND SERVING SIZES, AND BE SURE TO WEIGHT AND MEASURE YOUR FOODS." SO, HE HAS SO MANY CARBS AND CALORIES A DAY AND I TRY TO FIND THE BEST WAY TO "SPEND THEM" ON THE BEST FOODS. HE IS DOING GREAT ON THIS AND IT HELPS ME ALSO BY PUTTING THE NUMBER OF CARBS IN THE TOP CORNER OF EACH RECIPIE. YEAH!! NO HAVING TO FIGURE THAT OUT.
THERE ARE SOOO MANY GOOD RECIPIES IN HERE TOO. WE DO NOT USE SUGAR, WE USE SPLENDA IN EVERYTHING AND IT TASTES GREAT!! THIS COOKBOOK WAS AN ANSWER TO A PRAYER....I LOVE IT!!!! IT IS JUST AS THE COVER SAYS "EASY AS 1-2-3!!!"
...more info - Love this cookbook!
The recipes in this cookbook have been delicious and my family enjoys them as well. I also like that it uses the carb choices, which I find an easier method than counting carbs....more info - Excellent!!
Easy to use recipes, excellent preparation tips, "normal food for normal people".
Highly recommend this book especially for the newly diagnosed Type 2's....more info - 123 Cookbook

Now if I could just get the exchanges to work as easy as this cookbook, I would be well on my way to make cooking an easier task....more info - Yummy
I really like the recipes from this book they are simple enought for every day. They are also excellent for entertaining. I like meals that a versatile. This is one of those books.
