  • Great Diet - Great Recipes!!
    My husband and I have done them all -- Atkins, South Beach, etc. but this one by far is the best diet. What's not to like - you're eating very very healthy!!!! The recipes in this book are great! There was not one recipe that we did not like. My husband, who hates to each fish, now eats it at least 3 to 4 times a week. He's lost 10 pounds and feels great. There is a two week beginner diet plan and then the maintenance plan which a lot of the other books did not have. I recommend this diet and most specifically this book to EVERYONE who wants a good healthy diet....more info
  • GREAT BOOK
    I found this book full of great information. it has really helped me in changing my way of eating foods. a previous review stated that the book doesn't say what to do after the two week inital start; but it does, it goes on to say that if you're not at where you want to be weight wise, you can continue to follow the two-week start. i love the recipies and they really are easy to follow. just be prepared,once you decide to follow it, to have lots of veggies and salads on hand. and salads really do taste better w/ only olive oil and vinegar, salt and pepper. i felt better when i started eating this way; lighter and not as sluggish as when i've eaten processed stuff (bread, rice, etc). it's an easy read and i enjoyed his stories of italy and how he grew up...

  • Excellent Recipes
    I bought this after my husband's second heartattack. At first, I thought the recipes required too much work and they didn't seem real tasty to me. I've never been big on fish. I didn't think my husband would like the food either. However, months later when I had gained more weight than I was comfortable with, I determined to give these recipes a try. I also took to heart the one suggestion of a couple who cooked some meals on the weekend so they'd have good meals ready for their on-the-go lifestyle during the week.

    The recipes are so good and my husband likes them too. For the first time, he's eating Salmone and likes it. The only real work in preparing them is the chopping & dicing of the vegetables used in most meals. Once that is done, every meal is an absolute breeze. I haven't been able to work in an exercise program, yet. But I'm losing an average of 2 pounds a week and I've nearly gorged myself on the lunch & dinner meals for the first two weeks. I have found that on most recipes, there is enough leftovers for my lunch the next day. I really, really like this book....more info

    Every recipe I have done is a winner with my kids and I. They are very easy as well as good. We already have a favorite, the Sweet and Sour Red Snapper. I make this with different types of fish once a week. If I run across a recipe with an ingredient that I don't have, it is easy to substitute and unnoticible. Glad I ordered this one!...more info

  • A very simple approach
    I've been on just about every diet known to womankind and have struggled with my weight since childhood. I got interested in Mediterranean cuisine after being stationed in Sicily for 2 years and Spain for 3 while in the US Navy.
    What I love about this book is the program is so easy. There are menu suggestions, but you really don't need to follow these to the letter. Grocery shopping is so much easier because you can follow the plan with what is available.
    Only thing is there are still questions - like what if you finish the two week initial stage and are not at goal yet, do you keep on doing the same thing or begin transitioning?
    All in all, I'm happy with the program. Only wish I could contact the author with further questions....more info

  • I love this book!
    I've had the book for 3 weeks, and every single recipe I've made has been fantastic. I've always hated to cook in the past, because every time I tried to make something, the results just didn't seem worth the time and effort. I actually look forward to cooking now. I feel like I finally learned how to cook food that I actually want to eat!

    It was also very difficult for me to cook because I'm what is known as a pescetarian. I don't eat red meat or poultry, but I still eat fish and dairy. There aren't a lot of cookbooks out there for pescatarians, but this book is great because the majority of the recipes are for veggies, beans and fish/shellfish. Perfect! There are also some poultry and red meat recipes as well. My husband loves the Balsamic Chicken.

    The diet is basically a lot of fish, veggies and beans. The only fat is olive oil, no butter or vegetable oils. There's only a minimal amount of bread/pasta, and whole grains are encouraged. No sweets, but lots of fresh fruit. It seems like a very heart-healthy diet. It's also a great diet for anyone with IBS, I notice my symptoms have diminished greatly since being on it.

    As far as the recipes, the tuna salad using olive oil and vinegar instead of mayo is a revelation, and I don't think I could ever go back to the mayo version again. I made the Shrimp Oreganata, along with the Baked Eggplant and Zucchini for my mom when she was visiting. She's always been an excellent cook, and she said it was the best meal she'd had in a really long time, and raved about it the whole week she was here. I made a lot of meals from the book while she was here, and she liked everything so much, I bought her a copy.

    I haven't lost any weight yet, but I haven't strictly adhered to the diet, either. I guess you can say I skipped the first two weeks strict part of the diet and went straight into the maintenance phase. But even if I never lose a single pound, I'm still very happy I bought this book. The recipes are simple, wholesome, healthy, and most importantly, delicious. ...more info

    Skeptical that we could lose weight with this diet, I decided to try it anyway. What a happy surprise! At the end of the 2-week weight-loss period, my husband had shed 14 pounds and I had lost 10. The recipes are simply delicious, even with substituting less expensive types of fish.     This book is fantastic! The author of the book is both enlightening and intriguing. He tells why it is a good idea to lose weight and what it can do for your health. He gives specific recipes and instructions to how to lose stubborn fat and how to make your heart a healthy one. What's more is that he is really concerned with the obesity epidemic and addresses the issues.   • GREAT RECIPES!
    I got this book as was fed up with fad diets and it has made me change my eating habits completely. I now buy all fresh produce and use olive oil alot! the chick peas salad is really good, i never ate chick peas before. I live on fish, veg and fruit and now eat very little meat. I have dropped 6lbs in 3 weeks so im sticking to this as i never get hungry and love preparing the food. Great book, great recipes....more info

    This eating plan is amazing! I easily lost 5 lbs in two weeks and I know I would have lost more if I didn't cheat. The recipes are delicious and my kids can't wait to find out what is for dinner.   • Our Family's Favorite Recipe Book!
    This is simply an outstanding book, the recipe's are fantastic, the advice outstanding.

    I would advice (as the author does) that you try all recipes, even if you think they don't sound all that good. We've found that all of them are quite tasty, and easy to make.

  • Losing weight with great tasting food!
    I love this book! The information is easy to absorb, although I have skimmed over some parts (I don't need to know ALL the science behind it). The two week plan for losing weight reminds me of the South Beach Diet, but the recipes taste much better. It wasn't hard to stick to and I lost 5 lbs on it. Now I have slowly added fruit, bread and pasta back into my diet and I am still losing 1-2 lbs a week! The best part about the book is the recipes, they are so easy and wonderful! I have a 2 year old so I have to cook quickly and these recipes have never been a problem. They also make pretty hefty meals so you have plenty for leftovers and lunch the next day. I think this plan will be easy to maintain and after reading the book it just makes sense. I would recomend this to anyone trying to lose weight or just feel better, it's working for me!...more info

    I have been following just the "maintenance" stage of this book and have lost 4 pounds in under a week. The food is delicious and so healthy.   • Smart and Easy to Digest
    After giving birth to my son at age 40, my old pattern of eating simply did not give me the energy I needed to thrive. Never having gone on a diet, I was not about to embark on such a short-term fix. When I picked up The Mediterranean Prescription, I was really excited to find that there were yummy and healthy choices I could make to melt away the "baby fat".

    The book shows common sense application ways to eat and live daily. Physical activity,vegetables, fruit, legumes, dairy, nuts and seeds, olive oil and wine - daily then weekly fish, poultry, eggs, lean meat, monthly - veg. oils, sat. fats, ref. carb. sweets! Living on an island they had a low cancer and cardiac problem. Hmmm! They were not overweight! Just following the first part stressing more veg. and fruit I lost weight fast! My skin looked better.
