Customer Reviews:

  • Utter garbage
Another Mosby's nightmare. Badly edited, poorly printed, low quality illustrations.
This book is difficult to follow - too much detail on biochemistry, yet less than adequate descriptions on disease.
Look up hypoglycaemia & you'll be chopping & changing between chapters, none the wiser at the end of it!
I preferred the much cheaper & easier to carry Merk Manual....more info
  • Study Guide - OK
I have found this guide to be of good use as a quick primer before a test. Bit expensive... but good for cramming in a quick synopsis....more info
  • Midunderstanding Pathophysiology
I got an A in physiology, so its not just me. This book is poorly written. My pharmacology book explains pathophysiology better than this book. If you find out your teacher is using this book, beg them to use a different one....more info
  • A Bit of Nothing
Huether has many Pathophysiology books and they all are the same material with a different cover. I felt this book lacked substance, it was often boring and not very user friendly. If you are looking for a book to help you gain a better understanding of pathophysiology this one is not it, as well as the many other ones that are written by Huether. ...more info
  • Review from an instructors point of view
I have now used this text for part of 1 semester and must say it is the most frustrating text I have ever used. It looks great when you skim through it but not when you really "dig in".The book has numerous errors (hopefully some of these have been corrected in the new edition). I am tired of telling students that the arrow in figure X should go the other way, or that hypoaldosteronism should read hyperaldosteronism---etc. Even more frustrating than the mistakes is the lack of adequate explanation of the numerous complex figures. Figures are great but they have to be explained and woven into the text or explained in the figure legend. For example (one of many possible examples) Fig. 20 -6 shows the "differentiation pathways of blood forming cells and reported sites of blockage--". This is a very complex figure. It is referred to in the text once, just in passing. No explanation of what is being shown, what the significance of "blockage" is, --etc. A figure such as this with no effort to explain/utilize it in the text is a waste of space and only confuses both students and instructors. ...more info
  • Pathophysiology book review
The book is required for school. I feel that it covers a large amount of material. I found the first three chapters difficult to understand, but it greatly improved in the following chapters....more info
  • Confusing Information
I've completed half of the text and I truly enjoyed the first few chapters. But, after that, the text got much worse. Some of the chapters are extremely difficult to understand. In one paragraph, the author(s) present information and a few paragraphs later; the same material is opposite from what you just learned. There is a great deal of information crammed into every sentence and the information bounces back and forth with little cohesive flow of organization. Plus, it is short on conceptual knowledge and long on throwing the information at you and hoping some of it will "stick" with the student. If you are an instructor, please do your students a favor and do not use this text. ...more info
