Product Description

Diet schemes come and go. Successful plans, backed by powerful media machines, become bestsellers with sequels and food-product lines. But with so many diet books on the market, how do you decide which plan is right for you? According to Peter D'Adamo, the answer depends on your blood type. In his first book, Eat Right 4 Your Type, D'Adamo, a naturopathic physician and researcher, makes interesting and unique connections between human evolution, blood type, diet, exercise, and health. Now, in Cook Right 4 Your Type: The Practical Kitchen Companion to Eat Right 4 Your Type, D'Adamo provides readers with:

  • Road maps and charts for each of the four blood types, detailing which foods and beverages to consume and which to avoid
  • Tips for starting and sticking with the diet and matching your menu to your blood type
  • Thirty-day meal plans to help you stay healthy, live longer, and achieve your ideal weight
  • More than 200 healthy and easy recipes keyed to blood type
While D'Adamo's theories challenge common nutrition wisdom and his diet can be difficult to follow, Cook Right 4 Your Type will make his advice a little easier to swallow. --Ellen Albertson

  • Another cook book
If you want to follow "Eat Right 4 your Blood Type" this book offers appropriate recipes and could actually be used to better understand some of the concepts presented in "Eat Right..."...more info
  • blood type diet
If you buy into the possibilities, it can be beneficial. Both my husband and I have felt better since trying to follow this. I can't say any real weight loss, but definitely feel much better!...more info
  • Great book
I am really enjoying this book, its helpful because not everyone in my family has the same blood type. This book is easy to use. My only grip about it is that sometimes on the thirty day meal plans, the recipes are not listed in the book. I also do not like the fact that on the meal plans they do not have the page numbers on where to find the recipes. Other than that I really enjoy the eating right for you type books and highly recommend them to everyone....more info

  • Everybody should read and own this book!
I read "Eat Right For Your Type" when it first came out a couple years ago, and I recommended the book to a friend of mine in her late forties that was suffering from fibromyalgia. My friend was a blood type O and thought she was eating healthy by eating lots of natural whole wheat bread, brewers yeast, alfalfa sprouts, yogurt, and drinking wheat grass juice, and eating no red meat. But she found her fibromyalgia kept getting worse, not better. She read the book and followed the blood type O Diet very closely. Six months later, my friend no longer suffered from fibromyalgia and was healthier than she had been in years. She is a therapist and she started recommending the book to patients of hers that had suffered from many illnesses, including diabeties, heart disease, chronic fatigue syndrome, and candida, and even cancer. She had them follow the diet and six months to a year later, the patients that adhered to the diet the closest had dramatic results, no longer needing medication, and healthier than they had been in years. I mentioned later to my friend that it sure would be nice if Dr. D'Adamo would come out with a cook book for all the blood types. He finally has, and it is dynamite! I too am a blood type O and I had a hard time cutting out wheat and corn because there are so many delicious products out there with these ingredients. I am in my early thirties and I have been 15-20 pounds overweight for a good part of my life and I have found that I am so much healthier and get leaner faster if I cut out wheat and corn products completely. But again, this was hard to do, because I couldn't find many "O-Type Friendly" recipes except a few from Dr. D'Adamo's first book Eat Right For Your Type. Now that Dr. D'Adamo has come out with this cookbook I am finding it easier and easier and more fun to stay on the blood type O Diet. The recipes are fantastic and quick and easy to make. I hope this book encourages everybody that is concerned for their health, and everybody that should be concerned for their health, and especially those that are at this time suffering from many debilitating diseases. Many people scoff at the blood type theory affecting our weight, metabolism, and general health, however, more and more studies are showing that this is the road to optimum health....more info
  • loosing weight
I am quite pleased with the easy to follow information in this book.
Really love the fact that they have menus and recipes also. This makes following this life style ALOT easier for me. My husband and I both are impressed with our new eating regimes and although we are not the SAME blood type I am not having any difficulty making meals we can both share and enjoy. And we have both lost weight already after just two weeks on it, and don't feel we are suffering from the change of food we have omitted from our diets.

If you are looking to follow eating right for your blood type THIS IS THE BOOK to get in order to do has everything in it you need to know, as far as I am concerned.

If you are not familiar with these books, the first place to start would be with "Eat Right 4 Your Type" - a terrific book. In that book, you will first begin to understand the relatioship between your blood type (A, B, AB and O) and what you eat. When I first heard of this new concept of eating over a year ago, I was a little doubtful. This is not a "diet", it is a way of eating healthy that is just right for you based on your blood type. If you stick with the guidelines on which foods are good for you and which ones you should avoid, you will be amazed at the results. Do not expect to see results overnight. How soon you will actually see and feel the difference will depend on how faithfully you follow the guidelines, and for how long.

In this book are some of the most unique recipes ever found anywhere. However, in all honesty, I think you truly need to be somewhat of a "die-hard-health-conscious fan" to truly enjoy, and stick with, some of these recipes. For me, eating healthy is a number one priority, so the transition to this style of eating was just a minor modification to my regular diet, especially when meat always left me feeling weighted down and tired in the first place. I would never in a million years even consider going back to the red meats that for my blood type are a definite no-no. That is not to say, YOU, should not be eating red meats, it will all depend on your blood type, so do not make the mistake in thinking everyone has to give up eating meat.

The results of eating the right foods for your blood type, and avoiding the ones you definitely should not be eating is amazing. I highly recommend this book as a companion for "Eat Right 4 Your Type"; they go hand-in-hand. However, I found the third book, "Live Right 4 Your Type" extremely repetitious of "Eat Right.." and "Cook Right..." The information provided in "Live Right..." was just too technical and dry to keep me interested....more info

  • A Complete Crock
This book is a total farce. Maybe it has helped some people, but it didn't work for me at all. After taking two blood tests to make sure I was a type A, I tried his recommendations despite my reservations. Dr. D'Adamo says type A's should be mainly vegetarian and eat high carbo/low fat. This type of diet has never worked for me at all. I even joined the blood type email list and followed the suggestion of others who informed me that there are "several types of A's" and one type needs more chicken and fish . After a few days on this diet, I felt like I was going to pass out and I wanted to punch someone else out. I was irritable, crabby, weird, shaky, nervous and weak. This is one of the worst diets I've ever tried, it may have helped some but I suspect their improvement is due to eating better foods in general and getting more exercise. Ironically, I am now doing well on a high protein diet, so why am I not type O?????...more info

  • A wonderful addition to the ER4YT program...
This book is an excellent companion to the original "Eat Right 4 Your Type" book by D'Adamo (see my review on that book here on Amazon.) It contains a review of some of the material from the original book, and then branches out to include a ton of recipes. Each recipe specifies whether it is beneficial, neutral, or to be avoided by each blood type, making it easy to plan meals for one or more types.

The book has a whole range of recipes, from breads to main dishes, sauces to desserts, salads to beverages. There are 30 day menu plans for each blood type, with suggested meals and snacks. There's even a list in the back of mail order sources for various foods some people may have trouble finding in their areas.

All in all this book is a great adjunct to the previous book, and well worth buying for those who follow this health plan. If you're using the first book, don't hesitate to buy this book!...more info

  • Great Guidance
This is an excellent source if you are new to eating right for your blood type. Handy food charts identify which foods are beneficial, neutral or bad for your body. Also, there are suggested 30 day menus plans as well as suggestions about exercise plans for each blood type. Advice is practical such as fresh veggies are best but if cannot buy fresh, buy frozen and not are simple and turn out delicious...they range from meats to pasta/pizza, soups, salads, dressings/sauces,frittatas, to snacks, treats and munchies. If you have bought Dr. D'Adamo's book "Eat Right For Your Type", this companion book, "Cook Right For Your Type" is a must....more info
  • Taking only 5 medications instead of 13 since starting 8/99.
Turned 70 in July. Started Eating for Blood Type in August when I started seeing Naturopathic Physicians and startead getting treatments. Am taking 7 less medications, body is no longer swollen, have no more stomach pains (unless I eat something I should not eat) have more energy, and am losing weight. I also enjoy what I am eating. Why didn't I listen to my son earlier?...more info
  • Good Information - Bizarre Food Choices
After hearing great things about this book and success stories we purchased both this book and the coordinating cook book. While the "principles," were interesting, and insightful, it is not a diet I could stick with nor my husband. The food choices were a bit bizarre, some I never heard of! Not only that, most of the regular foods you've been eating all of your life are banned from his diet, depending on your type. Interesting, but definately not a life long program to stick with....more info
  • He will not answer questions dealing with inconstancies
There are several contradictions in the book, on the question and answer forum about B's eating wheat flour, but not wheat bread, he answered to something totally irrelevant, and would not deal with it. I wanted to ask a similar question, if I can have all dairy why not ice cream. He does't answer mail anymore. I wonder why? you can forward this to him if you can find him. I was going to recommend this book, however I will not now....more info
  • Great option for the whole family!
I have been using the principles in Eat Right 4 Your Type for about 2 months now, and have not only lost weight, but have gained energy and relieved a lot of symptoms that had been diagnosed as chronic fatigue. I am convinced this works, and this companion cookbook adds another dimension to the program. I now have many more options of what to eat, and the book makes it easy to choose meals that will benefit family members of all different blood types. On top of that, the recipes are easy to follow, and taste good. Highly recommended....more info
  • Applaud!
I applaud Dr. Peter J.D'Adamo for carrying on his fathers work (your father would be proud) I have searched for so long to understand some of the physiological responses I often experience with the foods I eat. Dr. D' Adamo puts it all into perspective. What is so very ironic to me is that, the foods suggested for my blood type A are all foods I absolutley crave and love. I suggest you go to his website and buy some of the products he has. I plan on purchasing an item he suggested for people still experienceing sugar cravings. This book has been a blessing, can't wait to buy the cookbook....more info

  • A sad, silly review follows this one..
I thought we were supposed to rate books based on their content, not whether an author chooses to answer your question on his website bulletin board. Oh, by the way, 'the inconsistency' you note is not an inconsistency if you had read the book more carefully: It does say quite clearly in both Cook Right and Eat Right that certain processing techniques can destroy harmful lectins in foods, which can result in a food having a different value depending on its form of preparation.

To get to the real point, this is a great cookbook, and if you are new to the concept of eating according to your blood type physiology, make sure that you READ his other book "Eat Right For Your Blood Type" which is a masterpiece....more info

  • You need this if you are following D'Adamo's approach....
If you have read EAT FOR YOUR TYPE and are trying to follow it, you will love COOK FOR YOUR TYPE. This companion book includes many recipes that you can follow to create meals anyone (type) can eat (family members and guests) as well as dishes designed to benefit your blood type. This approach is immensely helpful for me as I am a Type A and my husband is a Type B. At a minimum I want to fix food that while beneficial for me won't harm him. Each recipe has a `bar code' at the top that shows blood types classified into three categories: `Highly Beneficial', `Neutral' and `Avoid.' For example, buckwheat is highly beneficial for me and he should avoid it so I will fix pancakes for me when he won't eat them or cook something else like an omelet for him (he can have more eggs per week than I can and many more kinds of cheese). Days we want to eat together or evenings for that matter, I can fix oatmeal. ...more info

  • Never Cook - But I'm Gonna Start Now!
I am a NON-kitchen person in a major way... but I followed the "Eat Right" method for a month in 1998 and it changed my energy level dramatically. When I saw "Cook Right" on the shelf, I thought, "Oh, I never cook... why bother?" until I flipped through it and was reminded of how easy my blood type diet was to follow. This is very exciting!...more info
  • Cooking for your Blood Type
Originally, my chiropractor turned me on to this way of eating. I read all the reference materials and thought I would give it a try, but it didn't work for my lifestyle. Although I do not plan to continue this program, the cookbook had wonderful recipes in it that were easily created using things in my pantry and refrigerator, as well as ingredients found at Wal-Mart and our local health food store. I recently gave this cookbook to my chiropractor and know he will make good use of it. He even makes "healthy" muffins and serves with individually brewed (regular OR decaf) cups of coffee on Monday mornings, so I'm sure there are things in the cookbook that he can prepare to help market the diet plan and the cookbook....more info
  • Recipes lack taste
I was steered toward the blood type diet by my physician, and believe that the diet works well for some people.

My low rating for this book is based on the recipes themselves. I found them lacking in flavor and interest (at least for the A diet). I think the author would do well to consult with some recipe and cuisine experts and combine his theories with more talented food makers....more info

  • A must read for health minded people.
I have had this book for over a year. I have loaned it to quite a few people. All have found it to be very interesting. I encourage everyone to read this book from cover to cover, only skipping the blood type that is not theirs. The beginning of the book helps you to understand the concept, and validates the author and his research and conclusions. Other books of this type can't compare. I have found this type of diet to be easy to follow. After reading and understanding the concept, I realized that some of the foods to avoid do actually bother me in the digestion process. I have actually developed a dislike for some of the foods that I should avoid. The benefits are wonderful....more info
