      This is an excellent book, but it would seem the downloadable CD is an important part of the program, and being able to download it is a part of the purchase price of the book. I was unable to download the CD. Every time I tried, I received a message from Internet Explorer that it had to close, hence no CD. When I contacted Jon via his website and asked if there were any help he could give me, I had no response. I've been able to download CDs from other sites on occasion so am assuming there is a problem with the link I was provided via e-mail. I haven't had the book very long so although I've read it, I haven't had an opportunity to use the suggestions in the book itself. I am disappointed, though, not to be able to make use of the CD....more info
    • Going on 3 weeks and still going strong!
      I am not an overweight person but I'm not thin either. I am in the normal weight range for someone of my height. That said, I am only 5'1" tall so for me, gaining even 5 pounds makes a big difference. I got this book not because I wanted to get skinny overnight, but rather, learn why, after 18 years, I can't seem to lose these last 15 pounds. I eat right, exercise moderately and drink plenty of water. So why do I have these love handles and why do my thighs rub together when I walk?

      For me, having an extra 15 pounds on my frame means the difference between having PCOS or not. It's enough to slow down my metabolism and cause me to gain even more weight. It's enough to make exercising painful. It's enough to make me feel tired all the time. I've tried diets and exercise but I always gain the weight back. It seems my body is set at staying this weight, no matter what I do.

      Now, after reading The Gabriel Method I understand why my body is holding onto these extra 15 pounds of fat. All of the lifestyle changes I made in the past were physical, none were psychological. I realized that the change has to happen in my mind for it to happen in my body. I am seeing amazing results so far and I've only been using the method for a month. The first week my appetite reduced and my thirst increased. The second week I began feeling better about my body and gaining confidence. The third week I began exercising regularly. I've never been this consistent with my workout routines. And best of all, I've learned patience. I was so desperate to lose weight before, I would give myself a deadline and I'd torture myself with dieting and exercising and when I didn't see the results I wanted quickly, I'd give up. Now I understand this process is going to take time. I'm not going to expect immediate results. I tell myself that I will see the body I want in a year's time. I have a clear picture in my mind of what that will look like. I could not see that image before, and that explains why I failed so many times.

    • Excellent advice for those wishing to make major dietary and body changes
      I've done my share in the past 30+ years of losing weight by dieting and gaining it back. The current advice to cut calories and exercise just hasn't worked well for us. At some point you have to realize that what you're doing isn't working. I finally gave up on dieting, and in the past two years I've lost over 30 pounds.

      This isn't just a book about "thinking yourself thin." It's a fantastic compilation of advice that covers the mental, spiritual and physical aspects of body identity and nutrition. And it's all very simply presented and easy to execute.

      Gabriel offers so many wonderful suggestions that include eating grass-fed meat and living fruits and vegetables; drinking water; consuming omega 3s; exercising like our ancestors; eating earlier in the day rather than later; chewing food; conscious eating; the role of enzymes and bacteria; and spending time in nature and in the sun. He discusses how the body uses fat cells to safely store toxins and how drugs and other items ingested affect our bodies.

      Equally important to diet is understanding how our thoughts affect our body image and possible psychological reasons as to why we are fat, such as using fat as a barrier to intimacy or control by others, or consuming foods as replacements for love or security. No weight loss can be sustained without addressing these emotional factors.

      Gabriel also discusses the role of physiology and the reptilian brain inherited from our ancestors that controls the level of fat we retain based on inherent survival needs--the classic fight, flight or freeze.

      And the icing on the cake is the New Thought use of the mind to change physical reality, popularly known as manifesting. Visualization of the desired body and faith in its eventual manifestation not only affects reality but prompts different choices. If you're sitting in front of the TV getting depressed thinking you'll always be a fat slug, you'll be much more inclined to eat a bag of potato chips in resignation than if you're looking at a picture imagining you're thin and active.       I have only had this a short time but it has already helped me focus less on weight loss and more on myself. Given that, it has helped me lose 2 pounds which really doesn't sound like much but when you have been trying unsuccessfully for years then 2 pounds is an amazing amount. I find his methods to be thoughtful and to the point. Although this isn't really a diet it is a change of life style and good habit forming book working on the reasons that you put on weight and not focusing on the weight itself. For those of us who know we don't eat too much, who do exercise, and who still seem destined to be overweight this is a God send. It returns self-respect and the knowledge that there are others with the same struggle....more info

      The visualization parts of the book were great, as were the suggestions on adding healthier foods gradually, and adding in exercise, but then he had to go and mention supplements. Sorry, no.

      As for the download, haven't listened to it because you have to provide an email (don't need to be on any mailing lists, thank you). Would rather pay extra and have the CD included with the book. And please print on better paper than newsprint next time.

    • He did all the leg work for you. Great book!
      This is a fantastic book. It was well writing with the non-technical person in mind. Meaning Jon did all the difficult work for all of us folk that were not willing to do it.

      He's resume is impressive. I've been focused on my health (mind and body) for tens years now and I stumbled along the way to discover all the same basic techniques Jon talks about in his book.

      The true way to donate your weight back to the universe is several fold. Know yourself. Listen to your body. And that takes time.

      He incorporates his years of knowledge in this one book. Some people may get and it some may not. If your looking for specifics and statistics he sites them for you which I know most people aren't willing to go read but the citations makes this book all the more valuable.

      This book is a blend of common sense and science put together.

      I have studied everything from NLP, hypnosis, psychology, eastern, western medicine etc.

      He knows his stuff. The reason the fitness and diet industry is a billion dollar industry is because every day someone is coming out with something "revolutionary"...THAT WORKED FOR THEM. And these new techniques do work for some and not for others. The reason is everyone is different. It's up to you to find the right combination.

      Jon's method is not about one specific way. What the method is about is guiding you with tools to find your specific way.

      Jon is saying in order for you to get healthy you have to figure out what works for you. It's about developing a relationship with yourself and your body. What a strange concept? :-)

      I think this is the major theme in the book and I hope people get that.

      I've been doing these techniques for years. Long before I read this book. Once you get the concepts of positive thinking better eating etc results will happen fast.

      Get this book. Share it with your friends and see the results of what people like him, Chopra, Wayne Dyer have been saying all along.

      The Jon Gabriel Method has been a God send! I have been using his method for 4 weeks now and have gone down a dress size . I am eating more and exercising less and I feel fantastic. I had been trying for quite a while to lose the "mid life" weight gain that seemed to be sticking to my body like superglue. I had been starving myself and over exercising, but nothing worked until I tried Jon Gabriels' method. I am eating more and not depriving myself in any way. My energy levels and stamina have been greatly increased and I feel half my age. My arthritis has disappeared and I bounce out of bed in the mornings, instead of lumbering out in my usual stiff manner. If you have any weight issues, small or large - this method will give you results with very little effort. (And there is none of the usual "half a cup of steamed spinach and a piece of poached fish" starvation menu involved. I eat fabulously well)Ensure you listen to the CD every night before you go to sleep along with taking the recommended vitamins. Finally, something that works!...more info

      The Gabriel Method is a very well written book. In it you will find out what causes you to gain and retain wieght, how to turn this around, and ways to greatly improve your self esteem. John Gabriel also gives personal advice on the Gabriel Method forum. The forum is also a very good place to connect with others to compare how the GM is working.     • Some good information, but...
      At the risk of sounding harsh, the major part of this book is as light-weight as Mr. Gabriel is.
      The only part that I found useful were the scientific tables relative to weight and calories in/calories out. While I do agree entirely that there is a connection between one's body weight and how much fat the subconscious tells the body it requires, I would have to DISagree that the body weight is set at the pre-historic level and cannot be changed. Just a bit to 'woo-woo' for me.
      Every single cell in the human body is changed over a span of about 7 years. We can go from being obese to lean simply thru our moment to moment choices of clean eating and exercise--with the Caveat that one's emotions must also be healthy. In the vast majority of obese patients, there is the condition of DEPRESSION. This is the first condition that must be treated. GOOD LUCK TO ALL!...more info

      I had to write a review of this book. I have yo-yo dieted for years, causing myself great emotional pain, and each time gaining more weight. I feel like I am finally able to break free of the diet mentality because of this book. Thank you so much Jon Gabriel! Twice I have asked Jon a queation through his site, and twice I have gotten a caring and helpful response. The advice is practical, and we can see that it works by simply looking at the author's photo. I don't know how much I have lost in hte last 3 weeks becuse I have put my scale a way (another vicory) but I feel much more free, and less critical of myself.       Wow, in only a couple of months I have learned a whole new way at looking at the relationship of the body and mind. The most effective things for me has been to eat whatever I want in portion sizes and to not exercise too much (4 days max). Makes a BIG difference in weight reduction/ control.       Mr Gabriel was interviewed on Coast to Coast radio towards the end of February 2009. I bought his book on February 25 and read it. There were some thoughts in the book that really stayed with me and I incorporated them into my daily routine. I decided to give my body the nutrients it needed before eating anything questionable and to do some visualization. I did not use Mr Gabriel's CD but just did it on my own. I did not think I was doing much different than I had been doing before reading the book, however when I weighed myself on March 23 I was very surprised to find I had lost 10 pounds. Thats better than I did when I spent over $300 on a well known food program that provided some really nasty tasting packaged meals and left me constantly hungry. I am rereading the book and plan to download Mr Gabriel's visualization too....more info

      The book is very interesting and my daughter and I are trying to follow it. However, the book offers a CD included. We followed the instructions to down load the CD and that is very interesting as well, except that you have it in your computer, but not on a disc that you could use elsewhere. We tried to contact the author, but he did not answer us. NOT GOOD....more info

      Suffering many health issues, I keep looking for a way to lose 80 pounds and keep it off. This book has given me the most reasonable and practical guide for what my body needs to promote health that I have ever seen. No blaming, no finger pointing only information that makes so much sense I wonder why I didn't figure it out for myself. It is worth the small cost of the book to learn how to get the nutrition you need to be healthy and as a bonus lose weight.

      I was going to wait to write this review until I had been following Jon's advice for one month.... but the review titled "Disappointing" posted on March 27, 2009 changed my mind!

      I read Jon's book and have been following the Gabriel Method for 3 weeks now. I am not sure if I have lost weight (although I feel like I have), because I am staying off the scale right now, but WOW(!) I feel so wonderful! I have never eaten so healthily in my entire life and I feel fantastic. I also have not been hungry since I started eating the way Jon recommends. With this method, nothing is forbidden, which takes a HUGE weight off my shoulders.

      Just incorporate the things he suggests into your diet (and mind), and you can still have any other foods you want - IF you still want them.

      I am always surprised when people say a book changed their lives, but this one has sure had a huge and positive impact on mine.

      I will update this post in the next 3-4 weeks, once I do weigh myself.

      And Jon, if you are reading this.... I can not THANK-YOU enough!

      UPDATED 5/1/2009:
      WELL.... I have been following the plan for 7 weeks now, and while I really do enjoy the way I am eating, (although it is expensive!), and will probably stick with it, I HAVE NOT LOST ONE POUND!

      I have done everything that Jon recommends, except for the fact I do eat on the late side at night (around 7:30 PM) due to my schedule. I do not eat a huge, heavy meal, but I do eat dinner.

      I did send Jon an email on his website about 5 days ago, but did not hear back from him. I feel bad about all this, as I really do feel good and enjoy following his recommendations, but not one pound (!)... Geez!!!

      This book was an easy read. Good explanations of how he came to his conclusions for weight loss. Also offers a free CD of meditation to listen to when going to sleep. Very helpful. The author has a web site to ask questions and get his real answers by email. I loved the material....more info
    • A totally simple, intelligent, and comprehensive road to fitness for life!
      This very well-researched and credible work is light-years beyond all other weight loss and weight management strategies that I have read to date....and I have read dozens of them. I have followed many of the weight management programs that I have studied and I have always felt that these other methods were elements missing, there was too much speculation or guesswork, or that they were generally gimmicks.

      Mr. Gabriel's method finally puts all of the essential elements together: physiological - mental- emotional - spiritual. Everything is there. All these elements are necessary to harmonize our bodies' primal biochemistry, and embark on a path to life-long fitness, once and for all. I am deeply impressed with this work and have started practicing it this weekend (March 21/22, 2009). I will report back in a few weeks and update with my progress.     • Insightfull and invaluable illumination of the mind
      I have read my fair share of diet books and have been on countless diets which have all inevitably failed. The Gabriel Method gives you the tools you need to take the weight off and keep it off. It is a mixture of Jon's
      experience and facts on how he took off the weight and kept it off.
      If you are serious about not only loosing the weight but keeping yourself healthy, then i recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with obesity. This is not a diet book , it a method the change you life forever.

      I really like a lot of the info in this book and find it very plausible without being preachy. My one concern is that in order to get the free CD download, you need to enter into his website the last word on page 50. Well on the kindle, there's no way to know what the physical page 50 is, so no way to get the CD! As someone else mentioned, the cd is apparently fairly important for his method so....Yeah, I guess I need to go to a bookstore and look up page 50....more info

    • Effectively Presents a Diet-Free Way to Live
      This book is essentially the theory and practice of a healthy, non-diet way of living that will actually lead to greater weight loss than even healthy diets. The main tenet of The Gabriel Method is that the body will not lose weight until it is ready; that is, until you (and it) feel safe. So it's really important to find ways to help your body feel safe, and then weight loss will naturally occur.

      The author emphasizes visualization as a part of this; he strongly suggests (although it's not absolutely necessary) that you use his own CD for this, which is sold separately from his web site. He emphasizes lots of ways of eating healthfully, but stresses that these need to happen by following the body's needs and listening to your own body, as opposed to forcing anything. He also emphasizes things like forgiveness, and other types of self-care.

      What I think is unique about this book is that it is a comprehensive approach to the anti-diet mentality. I am already following this, and have found it is the only way I can healthfully and sanely lose weight. However, this book was still of value to me as it added really good tips--like the importance of visualization, and reminders of noticing the life force of food, and much more. I liked the author's style of writing and found it encouraging and motivational.

      For anyone who diets, please read this. Especially if you are a yo-yo dieter, I think you will appreciate this book. And if diets HAVE NOT worked for you in the past, and you don't know why, this book is an absolute MUST READ.

      The everyday stress that people deal with is "alarming but not immediately life threatening."       The eighty pounds I've lost are only a small part of The Gabriel Method's impact on me.       I just spent the evening listening to Jon speak on Coast to Coast. I'm giving this book a 5 star based on what he shared about his own process, his research, the results. I have purchased three copies, one for me and for my adult daughters.

      I recognized some of the fat issues and that these are physical responses to emotional pain. I've done visualizations in the past and willing to continue that method. In other words, I'm ready for a program that makes sense and sounds wise....more info
