Customer Reviews:

  • What every woman wants to know?
How pay for it, as I got "Cat Fancy" subscription for the whole month and I bought it as a gift for my friend, 26 year old Nick Dillie. The main reason I bought her this magazine for her 26th birthday this April. She loves cats and she doesn't like dogs because she needs a cat guard instead of dog guard. She needed a cat guard and I bought her this magazine. There are fresh articles about cats and about their cousins- the big cats, such as tiger, lion, cheetah, exotic cats, leopard, ocelots, bobcats, black panters and many more. Cool!...more info

  • Cat Fancy
I have gone through my latest copy twice of this magazine. The interesting articles and letters make you feel like you are part of a community, not just a crazy cat person. I like the extensive breeder listing in the back, whether or not I ever will get a pure bred cat. ...more info
  • Great Resource
Chock full of interesting stories and helpful information that needs to be filed away for future reference. Really enjoy the publication. ...more info
  • Great for Cat Loving Kids!
We gave the subscription to our cat loving 7-year old daughter for Christmas. She nearly bounced off the walls when she received her first copy in the mail. Althought she can't read all of the articles, she gets most of what the article is about. Most of all, the pictures are great! ...more info
  • I didn't fancy it
I love cats, but this magazine wasn't for me. First, the magazine itself is quite short, less than 100 pages. Nearly half of it is devoted to advertising and a breeder directory, leaving about 50 pages of substantive material. Even Amazon's reduced rate is rather expensive for what you get. The $54 cover price for 12 issues is outrageous.

I had mixed feelings about the 50 or so pages that were worth reading. Occasionally I found something that was useful to me in caring for my cat. But a lot of times the articles were too brief and superficial and did not go into enough depth to be of much help. I agree with the review that mentions the article that lists different types of litter without providing any pros and cons. I remember that article and was also frustrated by it.

The other thing that bothered me about this magazine was the emphasis on purebred cats. Animal shelters across the country are overflowing with wonderful cats who need homes, and many are euthanized due to lack of space. It really bothers me that this magazine does very little to promote adoption of shelter cats, while encouraging the purchase of purebred cats from breeders. I'm honestly surprised at the focus on purebreds in a cat magazine. I've known several people who purchased a dog from a breeder, but none of the cat owners I know have ever purchased a cat from a breeder. If you happen to be one of those who prefers purebred cats, you will probably love all of the material devoted to them. If you don't own a purebred, you might feel a bit left out.

Overall, I think this magazine will appeal to some cat owners but not everyone. For this reason I would recommend purchasing a copy from the newsstand before committing to an annual subscription....more info
  • Cat Fancy is the greatest magazine for cat lovers

  • Cat Fancy
Cat Fancy is an extremely informative magazine as well as full of beautiful photo's and useful tips for cat lovers. Pete, my nine month old tiger, is the light of my life and the first cat I've had for over 17 years. Cat Fancy has been extremely helpful in sharing ways to keep him happy, healthy and entertained....more info
  • Cat Fancy is good but I do not like old issues
I hate when magazine publishers send old copies as part of a new subscription. When I opted in for a new subscription to CAT F...they send 3 old copies. This is a way for them to dump their old inventory. It is cheap and put a bad taste in my mouth!...more info
  • Purrrfectly Great Magazine
I really can't say enough about this magazine. It's filled with so many informative articles and helpful hints on cats. The topics range from feline eating habits and social skills to current cat diseases and illnesses. Each month the magazine highlights a specific cat breed and discusses it's origin and breed characteristics. There is even a pull-out cat poster for younger readers to collect. Speaking of younger readers, this magazine is VERY kid friendly also. One of the interesting features of the magazine is the art submission page. Young cat owners can submit thier own hand drawn pictures of their cats for all to see. Adults will love the community volunteer sections also where loving people who care for homeless cats have thier good deeds printed, along with the addresses you can donate money to help the Good Samaritans in continuing their work. The issue review page is also interesting as people can write in their thoughts on previous issues and articles. Celebrities even get into the act in the last section of the magazine as Hollywood cats and their owners are highlighted. You can even order rare and specific breeds in the Classified section. All in all I highly recommend subscribing to this magazine. If you're a cat lover, you can't go wrong with Cat Fancy....more info
  • This is a must-have mag for any cat owner
My first subscription to Cat Fancy began 20+ years ago when I adopted my first cat, which happened to appear in an issue or two of Cat Fancy! After adopting a mom and her baby son a couple of months ago, I started a new subscription. As in years past, I find it to be full of helpful health information, as well as touching stories. About half of the mag is full of ads, but I find them to be useful - and many of them tempting - as well!...more info
  • One of the best
I grew up with this magazine and there really isn't anything that I can add that you can't see yourself by at least stopping in the supermarket and looking at one. Every month I loved the breed profiles and great articles to help me and my cat grow together. This is a must have for any cat owner and lover....more info
  • great magazine
I LOVE this magazine, it's got great tips in here about how you should do this or that with your kitten/cat plus the cat pictures inside are adorable....more info
  • Delivery Delay - Gift Notification
Ordered gift subscription for a friend on Dec 20. Now Jan 21 and friend has yet to receive a gift notice from either Amazon or Cat Fancy. Also in this computer age, why should Cat Fancy take 2-3 months for first issue? It's absurd!...more info
  • Probably worth the money -- try it for a year first
The best thing about this magazine is that the articles are pretty much about something that you didn't already know about cat wellness. It's sort of like a "Consumers' Report" for cat people. In any event, the articles are well-written and, from my view, great advice on caring for your feline friends.

I have 11 cats (10 inside and one outside, plus two mutts) and when I toss in the cost of this magazine against all the costs of owning these animals, vet bills, special food, insulin for two of them, etc., the minor financial burden of the magazine is insignificant. So, for me at least, it's worth it.

Yes there's quite a bit of advertising but the worst point is all those subscription cards that fall out all over the place where they're terrified that you won't re-subscribe. There's at least 6 per issue!

The fact is, cat people who are responsible enough to subscribe to a magazine in an effort to care for their cat(s) are also responsible enough to re-subscribe if we feel that it's a good product -- we don't need to be beat over the head with "noxious reminders"! Maybe this technique works for magazines of different genres, but cat lovers sure can do without this nusiance.

I'd try it for one year and if you find that your not reading it, then don't re-up. For my wife and I, it's worth the money, even though it is a little pricey....more info
  • Great Magazine
This is a pretty informative magazine. It also arrived very quickly after I ordered it. I would recommend it to any cat lover....more info
  • LOVE this magazine!!!
I like cats but my family loves cats. We all fight over each issue as soon as it arrives. I bought 3 extra subscriptions just to be able to see the magazine with all the great kittys before the pages are removed for (framing) or other neat uses. It is unusual for me to get this high about a magazine but you have a winner here. MORE!!! Kittys

  • Cat Fancy is more ad and breeders than real info
I found Cat Fancy Magazine to be mostly advertisements and breeders advertisements than real meat of information for cat owners. I'm also very unimpressed with their Cat Channel online board they advertise in Cat Fancy and cannot recommend it to others. They seem to have poor management of their online board especially on weekends so inappropriate posts stay there for a long time and a professional magazine advertising their own online board in their magazine should have their online board perfected before offering it. Also Cat Fancy pushes a ridiculous high renewal rate for their magazine, but if you go onto Amazon, you can get a renewal rate of almost half the Cat Fancy renewal price. So I have come to the conclusion that between the Cat Fancy magazine, their poor online Cat Channel board and the high renewal rate Cat Fancy charges, they are not interested in keeping their readers or online members. ...more info
  • Cat Fancy Way to Go
I enjoy this magazine and wish that it was published bi-weekly instead of monthly. I enjoy the stories and wish there were more and love the coloful pictures....more info
  • Mewo-riffic
Cat Fancy is one magazine that our whole family reads. We all enjoy seeing all of the different cats and personal photos of people's feline friends. There are great stories and helpful tips for caring for your cat, but at times they are repetative of other issues....more info
  • for those of us who are cat people...
Cat Fancy is especially useful for anyone who has recently adopted a cat, as it emphasizes feline health and maintenance, and how to keep your cat safe, happy, and comfortable at home; a recent issue for instance, was "Paws Off That Plant !", giving tips on the best ways to keep your greenery from being chewed up, and also which plants are toxic, with a chart showing what the symptoms and treatment are if ingested, along with photos of the plants for easy identification.
There was also an article on declawing, what exactly the procedure is, why it has become a controvesial topic, and the reasons most animal experts and veterinarians do not recommend it.

As part of Cat Fancy's regular features, it has marvelous and usually humorous photos sent in by readers, and is also a source for breeders, with a large directory, and a "Cat Calendar", which lists all the shows and events throughout North America.
"Cat Care 101" always has useful information, and then there is "Fancy Shopper", with every product imaginable for your four-pawed pal, from the useful to the ridiculous. Who would ever think that there were so many ways to make a litter pan ? There is sure to be one that is perfect for your kitty, and she will also thank you for all the good stuff you learn in this magazine....more info

  • great reading
I really like this magazine. I look forward the mail day when it comes. ...more info
  • Great for Finding the Right Cat
I got this subscription when I was trying to figure out if a cat would be the right pet for me.
There's so many breeds of cats, all with different personalities and patterns and appearances.
I've gotten five issues and still can't decide what type of cat I should get.
Each issue highlights a specific breed...Siamese,Ragdolls,Scottish Fold,Persian,Russian Blue.
So far I like the ragdoll because they're so docile they'll just flop in your arms and also the persian because they're laid back, but I haven't made up my mind.
This magazine doesn't include alley cats, or cats you'd find in a pund or rescue.
I enjoy the photos of the cats and I like the articles too.
I would recommend this to anyone before buying or rescuing a cat and also to people who just admire cats. ...more info
  • Cat Care 101, & Great Photos.
This is a very useful magazine for anyone who has had cats for along time, or for those who have just adopted one. It focuses on Feline health, safety, maintenance, happiness & giving your cat a comfy home. In the Oct, 2007 issue the article by L.K.Kozlowski on "cat depression, was very helpful in dealing with a new cat arrival to my family, that did not sit well with one of our males. Cat Fancy features "Humane Matters, Ask The Vet, & many other topics." Such as what various cat sounds mean, & dealing with your allergies when you own cats. The latter is still a tough problem even after twenty five years of living with cats.

Most articles give some useful information, but few delve deeply into the topic. That is the only flaw with this magazine, it is too short. It also has great photos including many submitted by its readers. I usually like the "Centerfold Breed," article the most. This is always fresh with far more in depth information. Perhaps, it is not as good as it was five years ago? But, Cat Fancy still deserves four stars....more info
  • Great Magazine
Cat Fancy is a great magazine. So far I've received two issues, and look forward to more. The issues I received thus far have had interesting topics discussed. Topics such as Hope for Feral Cats, The Encroachment of Tiger Habitats, Alternative Medicine, Natural Diets, The No-Kill Shelter Quest, etc. The magazine also has a Q and A section where Vets answer many questions and concerns owners/parents have about their cats. There is also an advice column, stories about rescued cats, a breed profile, a free poster in each magazine, etc. The only thing I didn't care for was the Cat Breeder Directory, in the back of each magazine, that took up several pages (though I'm sure others may like this feature). Personally I think adopting a shelter animal is the way to go. Not only do you gain a new family member, but you save a life while doing so....more info
  • Extra Help for Cat Owners
I purchased this magazine subscription when I brought home my third kitty, a Persian. I had owned long haired cats many times but never a Persian. I needed advice on grooming a long haired and possible health concerns of this breed. This magazine is fantastic...filled with pointers on health, grooming, nurtrition, behavior, it features a specific breed every month (with poster that my daughter loved) It has heart warming stories about real pet owners and their pets. At the end of the magazine their is classifieds for many new cat products, breeds and information on cat shows around the country. I enjoy mine so much and find them so helpful, I save them for future reference....more info
  • It's ok....
The articles in the magazine are great. However, half of the magazine is an advertisement for pure bred cats. I personally promote adopting cats from shelters, so I don't have any interest in the ads. If you have pure bred cats, you will probably enjoy this magazine more than I have....more info
  • Cats Galore
I gave this magazine to a friend for her Birthday. The day she got it she called to say how much she LOVED the subscription. She doesn't show cats she just loves cats. ...more info
  • Spicy & Sweet
Inside Cat Fancy magazine there is always a 'Kids For Cats' article. These are my favorite because it allows kids to express and share their oppinions with stories, poems, drawings of their pet cats and books. This is the section I read first. It has wonderful submissions in it, and it leaves you gaping at how amazing these kid's creative minds work.
The second place I go is to the breed article. There is always some new breed there, information and all. And these are just a few of my favorites!...more info
  • cats
I think it's silly to ask a cat lover if they like a magazine about cats. The magazine is full of wonderful pictures of cats, with even a sexy centerfold suitable for framing.
The articles are of current interest, to the point, and brief enough to hold the reader.
The advertizements are useful and I study every one.
If you love cats you need this magazine. ...more info
  • Great pictures and good stories.
I love this magazine because I love cat stories and photos. I do wish they wouldn't favor purebreeds and would speak more of the value of adopting and rescuing homeless animals. They need to totally denounce cat declawing....more info
  • I love Cat Fancy
Cat Fancy is a wonderful cat magazine with great infomation on health issues, new products, uplifting stories and a new breed profile every month.
The only thing that is wrong with Cat Fancy is it has too many ads in it for breeders.I would recommend Cat Fancy to all Cat Lovers....more info
  • Too many ads, not enough articles
The articles that are in Cat Fancy are well written and informative. Unfortunately there are more ads than articles.
Not worth the price. Better off getting cat information online for free....more info
  • Long Time Cat Fancier
I have been a subscriber to Cat Fancy since the 1970's...yeah,that's right, and I still have every issue I ever received. (Scarey, isn't it...I am really running out of storage space!) Cat Fancy has always been a great magazine and I have always enjoyed it. The only thing that I would like to see improved would be having it mailed with a protective cover of some type since the magazines sometimes get torn during delivery.
This is a great price for this magazine, and as a long, long-time subscriber, I appreciate it.
