Product Description

* 2- Speeds* Featuring Quick Clean* For all Odors* Continuous cleaning action Model: 04271R

Equipped with a quiet fan to draw in foul air and expel clean air, this appliance reduces odors near their source, making it useful in bathrooms and the kitchen and for pets (keep it near the cat's litter box) and tobacco smoke. The on/off switch permits either normal speed or QuickClean speed for fast results. An indicator light shows the unit is operating, and a month-to-month dial serves as a filter-change reminder. The unit comes with an all-purpose carbon filter. Replacement filters are available separately, as are specialty filters for pets, tobacco, and diapers. The expected one-month filter life is with the unit running continuously; if it's turned on only occasionally, the filter should last for up to four months. The top snaps open for easy filter replacement. The unit plugs into a wall socket and works best within 6 feet of an odor source. It measures 6-3/4 inches wide, 8-1/4 inches high, and 3-1/2 inches deep and carries a two-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Customer Reviews:
  • It does what it claims to do
I use this product to get rid of the smoking odor in our living room. It works! If you hold a cigarette near it, you can see it sucking all the smoke. I also like the feature where the tiny light on top turns red to indicate that its time to change the filter. I have had this for almost 2 years now and its still going strong. Highly recommended!...more info
  • Does The Job
I have owned the HB 04271R True Air now for about a month and it functions as advertised. I use it in a adesignated area about the size of a medium sized bathroom with a tobacco replacement filter. The designated area is my "smoke room". Before I installed it my roomate would constantly complain about the tobacco odor in the air. Now the complains have stopped. I plan to continue using this until I quit smoking....more info
  • My Apartment has No Smell!
I live in a one-bedroom apartment with 2 small dogs and a turtle. Needless to say, sometimes there would be less-than-pleasant odors coming from my apartment. Since I've been using this plug-in, I don't smell anything when I come home. That's great! My only complaint is that you can hear the fan, even on whisper mode. But, really, it's not a big deal....more info
  • Works OK for the price
I am on my second unit now. The first one lasted about two years running continuously before it died. I was pretty happy with it for use by the cat box. Cat litter dust does clog the filter pretty quickly, but I just vacuum the dust off occasionally. I am very disappointed with the second one though, it is much louder than the first one. Some of the reviewers compare the loudness to that of a computer fan. The 'whisper mode' on mine is much louder than any computer that I own. For this reason I am hoping that it breaks soon so I can try another brand. Although if Amazon still has them on sale for $12, I may just get another one and hope that it is quiet like the first one I had. It is worth taking the risk at that price....more info
  • huge
This item is way too large. Far more than I expected for a plug in.

  • works fine, but is pricey for upkeep
this does work for the kitty litter....awesome for when guests are over and I'm 'nervous' about the smell.

I had one before and couldn't remember why I got rid of it. But, I just remembered...the sucker goes through filters like you wouldn't believe, and the filters are 1/2 the cost of just buying a new one.

and, being an energy-conscious household, I wish this was created as 'energy-star'....more info
  • Useless
I am unable to use this product because none of the electrical sockets in my home has the strength to hold onto the electrical prongs of this relatively bulky appliance. This is definitely not one of those cute little plug-in heated-oil room deodorizers. This appliance weighs in at 1.5 pounds, and has dimensions of approximately 8.5 inches high x 6.5 inches wide x 3 inches deep. Think of it as a hefty box of brown sugar plugged into your wall with nothing holding it in place except the plug. Unless your socket forcefully grabs electrical prongs, you would be well advised to consider an air cleaner that is not plug-mounted. The weight of this unit literally pulls it out of the socket. I, for one, do not appreciate the additional expense and bother of replacing a wall outlet to accommodate an appliance that may or may not do what the manufacturer claims. This product is clearly a misadventure in engineering....more info
  • Not for a ferret owner
I purchased this product hoping it would help cut through the smell of a ferret. It did nothing of the kind. While it has been working wonders in removing dust from the air, it does not hold up to its deodorizing claim. I have not tried it around a cat litter box, and maybe it works with milder odors, but the pungent musk of a ferret has already proved to be too much for it....more info
  • works well but
i was surprised at how quickly the filter needed to be replaced even on the slower cleaning cycle - and since they arent cheap, i dont feel this was worth it

i prefer the air purifiers like Hunter HEPATech model 30055 - cleans larger spaces, hasnt needed a new filter in the year i've owned it, and sometimes sites like amazon and others have it on clearance from $100 down to $35-$40!...more info
  • this product works well
I'm glad I bought this product instead of wasting my money on an ionic breeze. It works well and is pretty quiet....more info
  • Less odor, but not quite enough
I purchased this item for the pet odor in my bedroom. Despite using this frequently, my room still smells like guinea pig - less so than before but not significantly. I'm a little disappointed because my room is a pretty small space, and the item's plugged in right next to my guinea pig's cage, so according to the instructions the item should work just fine in this space. Another drawback is the task of replacing the filter - I've done a lot of searching but can't find the right one (if someone knows, please post it). The size of the thing is also a little unwieldly to be suspended on the wall by the plug - I've had to stack books underneath it to balance it. I think this item would be best for lighter odors like the bathroom, or for out-of-the-way areas such as if your cat's litterbox is in the utility room. The noise hasn't bothered me at all, especially since it has a lower setting that sounds like a computer fan. Three stars because it's small, cheap, and somewhat useful, but if you have serious odor issues I'd suggest saving your money for a real air purifier....more info
  • Excellent Product & Price...
I bought this product to eliminate kitchen odor when cooking/baking or warming up food. It works wonder in both quiet & quick mode. It also works great in removing other odor such as pet....more info
  • It works well.
I bought this product hoping it would help eliminate the smell from 3 cat litter boxes. Even thought we change our cat litter boxes obsessively every day, we still had a nasty smell. This product works very well. However, it does not clean the air for an entire house, it works for a room or maybe two. And it is not quiet. There are two settings, one louder and more efficient. But even the lower setting is still noticeable when you walk into the room. It does clear the air very well, we run ours when we are not home so the noise does not bother us. ...more info
  • easy to use
It's handy, I can carry it to anywhere I want but the bad thing is noisy...more info
  • Great for Bathroom!
I bought this for my older apartment that doesn't have a fan in the bathroom. It does an excellent job of keeping the bathroom air fresh and dry (the mirrors barely even fog up). I don't know what I would do without it! I do wish it were a little smaller. Check the dimensions before buying to make sure it can fit in the space around where your outlet is located-mine blocks one side of the medicine cabinet but it's well worth it....more info
  • works better than expected, good for small space
I got a model very similar for about 10 bucks on clearence, and plugged it in, not expecting much. I placed it in the finished portion of my basement near the catbox. After 1 day, I noticed the air was a little fresher, crisper. It took that ammonia smell directly above the box away. After about a week, the whole basement was a little clearer. I noticed the difference the most after I unplugged it vacuuming one day and didn't plug it back in. The next morning the odor was creeping back. This is a relatively affordable item, does descent job for a small space. I have now had this for about 2 1/2 years, still working good with refills....more info
  • It does reduce odors
I've had this for a few months now and it does work well at removing odors.

It came in very handy when out neighbor was having their septic tank pumped out.
Within a few minutes of turning it on high the smell was reduced significantly in the area where it was running....more info
  • Works as described ...
This little unit works well. I had a cat "accident" in a very cramped area in my basement that ended up causing a very nasty smell in our basement and part of our house upstairs. We put it near the location of the "accident" and ran it on the "quick clean" mode for a few hours and then in standard mode the rest of that day and the following day. The smell diminished substantially over that time. Operates fairly quietly. Only complaint is cost of filter refills (are they really worth 8 bucks?)....more info
  • A college student's perspective
I just recently received this odor eliminator. It was much bigger than I expected but very easy to setup and use. The filters are relatively cheap and only need to be purchased every 2 months.

On whisper quiet mode well the unit is just about whisper quiet. If you are trying to get rid of a particularly bad smell you can turn it on high speed which is a moderately noisy fan noise.

Living in a dorm sometimes things can get a bit smelly (if you know what I mean). This device always has your back whether it's your garbage you don't want to take out or your room mate's pile of smelly clothes. In this modern age we don't always have time to take care of these things and most sprays simply mask odors. This great Hamilton Beach product ELIMINATES odors and sends them packing....more info
  • Good value for the price
After reading all other reviews I thought that this product would work well and for only $20. I tested it while cooking a Mexican dish and it did better than expected. Clearly it did not get rid of all the garlic, onion and chili oddors, but it did reduced the smells a lot. I liked it a lot. In fact I will buy another one for the bathroom.

  • it works!
We purchased this to put in the closet that holds the kitty litter box. It is unbelievable how well this works. It gets rid of any smell, and also gets rid of the odor from the cat food which is usually more unplesent than the box. The big downside is that after two weeks, the filter did stop working, so it had to be replaced. The filter that comes in a three-pack for $7.99 works great, you don't need to buy the special pet ones which are more than 8 dollars each. So for $70 a year, you can have a fresh smelling kitty area. And the filters have free shipping and no tax. Get this, it works and the filters are worth it. ...more info
  • Great Job
I bought it yeterday. We do lots of Indian cooking with lots of smoke. This guy has significantly reduced the smoke and odor.
Every one at home can feel the difference.
I al planning to buy more filters from Hamilton....more info
  • Excellent for the kitchen
This product is excellent in the kitchen. We cook a lot of indian food and this product is a 'match made in heaven' for this type of odor-intensive cooking. nowadays, we even fry fish and this takes care of all the odor. Havent had to replace filter until now. It would have been great if Hamilton bundled a free filter along with the machine....more info
  • So So
I bought one to counter the stench of the litter box used by 2 cats. The purifier was a miracle worker for the first week operating on "whisper mode", so I bought a second one for my office, since my dog comes to work every day and adds his smell to the place. After the first week, the one by the cat litter box stopped being effective. I opened it and it was pretty choked with dust, so i cleaned it out as best as I could and put it back. It doesn't seem to work like it did the first few days any more. I could try replacing the filter, but the cost would add up quick if I have to replace them once a week! Yikes! I'd have to say it worked so great to start with that I'll stick it out a while longer, but overall it hasn't lived up to its full billing. In terms of "whisper mode", the sound level of the fan is less than an window A/C, but more than a computer fan......more info
  • Seems small, but it's really effective
We have two. One of them runs in the bathroom all the time, and works well to eliminate the musty odor. The other is in the kitchen and while it's running all the time, it's a bit more negligable because there's a lot of air circulation. Best to keep it in a smaller area, or very close to the souce of the odor. I still find that an open bowl of arm & hammer works the best...go figure. But you should see the dust they collect...convinces me that they're doing something good. I recomend....more info
  • It works!
I was somewhat skeptical since there doesn't seem to be much interest in this product and even a bad review, but for less than $20 it was worth taking a chance. We use ours in the bathroom and it works great. I am now ordering a couple of replacement filters since we have had our unit for over 6 months. For such a small fan, it moves a lot of air and does a fantastic job of removing (and not masking) odor. Highly recommended....more info
  • Amazing product for the price!
I have been using two of these units for over six months now and they are great. I use one at home with a pet odor filter to reduce the smell coming from my hamster cage and it does an amazing job. When it's running You couldn't tell there was a hamster in the room unless you put your nose up to the cage. The other one I use in an old musty dorm room and it has helped with the smell. The other nice thing is they take a lot of dust out of the air. I vacuum my filters about every month because they get so full of dust. Overall for a $20 product they do a great job and I highly recommend them....more info
  • Not effective...
I bought this item in hopes of curbing cooking odors in the kitchen. I positioned the odor eliminator withing 3 feet of the stove, well within the recommended 6 foot range, turned it on to the Quick Clean setting, and saw absolutly no reduction in the odor or the smoke that resulted from the frying pan....more info
