Customer Reviews:

  • Nice set - great price
I finally decided after many years that it was time to treat myself to a new set of decent cookware - following the purchase of a new stove with a glass/ceramic cooking surface. The manual recommended aluminum clad with straight sides and flat bottoms. When I researched the best in this category (not including the very expensive dual clad), Cuisinart Chef's came up time and time again. I googled for the best price and found it at Amazon - actually an amazing price that no one else came close to for a 17 pc set. I have used the cookware a few times and already am very pleased. Although they seem to heat up slowly, they cook beautifully and clean up easily. I was a bit concerned that the instructions recommend that you do not use anything abrasive to scrub the cookware (like brillo etc) but I didn't need to worry - cleaning with a sponge has worked very well, and on occasion I also use some Cameo cleanser for water spots - cleans up like new. I expect this to be the last set of cookware I will ever need to buy....more info
  • Good stuff
Great price. The product works well. It takes a while to heat up but heats very evenly and cools rapidly. Sucks at certain foods. Many stick to the pans and are nearly impossable to clean....more info
  • Not the best quality pots
Pots look beautiful until you boil water in them, then spots appeared on inside that can't be cleaned out. Called Cuisinart and they said it wasn't their problem, that I should call Amazon. Called Amazon and they were very helpful and sent out another set of pots immediately with return postage for the set I had. Received second set of pots quickly, only to have the same thing happen. Will try and steer clear of Cuisinart products in future. Amazon was absolutely great with their help....more info
  • Good Value good looking
At a third of the regular retail price, this set was an awesome deal. One of the biggest selling points for me was the number of pieces. Most sets I looked at were just too small and I would end up having to buy additional pieces.
It is a really nice looking set and they feel hearty. I am still trying to get used to the right temperature when cooking in them. If you have hard water it is difficult to keep them looking clean and spot free.
I looked for months before purchasing these and I was hesitant initially because I have not had the best luck with Cuisanart products, but I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this set....more info
  • Great Value BUT!!!
The 17 piece set is a great value but quality of the stainless steel is poor. The mirror finish doesn't last long when you begin cooking on or even boiling water. The bond use to stick the bottom plate to the bottom of the pan is odd. When 1st heated it makes a few popping sounds. I didn't expect a great quailty product due to the cost of the set. Finding everything that I needed and used was more important. The set does heat evenly and cook well it's just overall spotting and stains are an eye sore. This product is great if looking for style and going to hand it up over an Island...more info
  • Fantastic cookware
I had purchased a similar set at a local store, decided to check amazon when I got home, this set is larger and came with a free extra pot, for about $75.00 cheaper. Of course I returned the one to the store and purchased this from Amazon. It is everything I was expecting, I love cooking with these pans. Never had trouble with clean up, if I brown something in a pan, I just add some soapy water and after a short time of soaking, it wipes clean with a paper towel. My last set cost way more than this, and was non-stick, they did not hold up well at all and I decided to never buy non-stick again. I have absolutely no problem with anything sticking in these pans....more info
  • Always thought I HAD to have non-stick
Had never considered stainless before, since I thought that only non-stick pans would clean up. Not so. These clean up well. They also heat up QUICKLY! Watch out or you'll burn stuff. You need less heat to do the same cooking - so maybe these are energy saving. Get the little 1 quart sauce pan to complete this set. The strainer for the large pot works well - keeps pasta off the bottom of the pot to keep it from burning - but you have to use more water to fill it as you don't use the bottom 1" of water. Getting the double boiler insert. GET BARKEEPERS FRIEND to clean these - it's amazing. All our pans still look like new. "Stainless but not Spotless" above should give this a try....more info
  • Not induction ready
Had to return the set, which is quite nice, because it does not work on an induction cooktop. Aluminum core prevents this, even though exterior is stainless steel....more info
  • Great for the price!
We searched long and hard for a great set of stainless cookware at an affordable price and we found it with Cuisinart's Chef's Classic Cookware set. We have had them for four months now and have found that every piece is useful and everything we cook on it cooks up well. Many of the lids are interchangeable and every pan comes with a lid. One thing on the lids - they get pretty hot, which is something the product description doesn't mention.

One thing to consider is they are sometimes hard to clean. Soap and water usually does the job and all of it is dishwasher safe but they do tend to get spotty. What we usually do is clean the heavily used pans once every couple of weeks with Cameo Stainless Steel Cleaner. This seems to shine them back up, good as new.

We bought extra pieces, including Cuisinart's multi-purpose 5.5 quart pan with glass lid and Cuisinart's 6-quart sauce pot with lid. These pieces match the set and work just as well.

The information packet with the set told us never to cook on high with the pans and that works out just fine with us. Everything still gets hot in record time and cooks thoroughly with no problem of sticking or burning.

To summarize, if you are in the same predicament that we were in, this is definitely the set for you!...more info
  • Excellent quality for a great price
I bought a 17-piece set of Cuisinart Chef's Classic stainless cookware, plus a 1-qt. saucier and the double boiler. I am very pleased with all of them, and these 20 pieces are all I should ever need!...more info
  • Excellent cookware in use, care, and value
I have used primarily the best non-stick cookware available and recently wanted to switch to a good set with no non-stick. I didn't know where to start or what I should look for in cookware. After some research, I decided to get this set because it goes from stove top to oven and looks great with a professional flair. After reading the reviews about staining and clean up, I was hesitant. However, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Read the cleaning directions! Use warm vinegar to remove discolorations which are caused by the water - NOT THE COOKWARE. I hand wash my cookware and wipe dry immediately. This prevents almost all spoting. If a discoloration occurs, I use a little warm vinegar which removes everything. The drip-free pouring is excellent engineering
feature. The cookware heats up evenly and quickly. I never use the highest heat setting for even boiling water. I recommend this set to anyone. Be sure to read the manufacturer's information contained with the set....more info
  • Quality at a good price
For the price, this is very good cookware. Here are the only issues/concerns we've had:

Slight "pitting" (or something) on the inside bottom of some pans after first use.
When you are heating up the pans for use, you can hear a tink, tink, tink sounds as the pan heats up....more info
  • Cuisinart Chef's Classic cookware
First rate!! Even cooking on the bottom; handles don't get hot; lightweight; heats up fast; everything has its own lid.... Cleans up easily.... I'm very pleased with my purchase....more info
  • Stumpted the Chef
I just love this set. I bought it because I wanted something that would last a long, long time, be good to cook with, and look beautiful. I went to different stores, picking up saute pans until I found the one that balanced nicely - and it was a Cuisinart! I waited until it was on sale, and I bought it. I was thrilled when it arrived.

The tops fit snuggly on the pots and pans. It's so nice to have a top for every pot, and not have to share tops. I like this set because I always have the right tool for the job. Now, sometimes, one of my Cuisinart tops does double duty and tops one of my cast iron skillets. They do just fine, even with the old stuff.

Be good to your cookware and it will be good to you. A little Bar Keeper's Helper (why didn't someone tell me about this fantastic product sooner!?) - takes care of any tough problems (like when I burned a sausage in a saute pan - wasn't paying attention).

My friend, who is a professional chef, came by and was trying to boil something at the edge of the pan, and was stymied because the pan heats so evenly he could not get a hot spot, even though he wanted one. I told him to try the old Farberware I still have (I keep one piece just for that reason).

This set is a true work horse - just because it's pretty doesn't mean it can't work hard - and it does. ...more info
  • Cuisinart Cookware
Nice pots and pans, and delivered on time however the edge of the large frying pan was bent upon delivery. We found that it took much longer to boil water in the large pot, I suspect because these items aren't fully clad....more info
  • Just disappointed
Well I would like to start off by saying that I love Amazon. I have never had any problems so far with returns or shipping. I was a little bit reserved about buying this set after reading the reviews on how it left water marks and stains after cooking. I read the other reviews and the actual user guide, as to not discolor my newly found kitchen tools. Unfortunately after the first use it not only had water stains, but had like little brown marks in the bottom of the inside and that was just from boiling eggs. My first reaction was well I'll just get the Barkeepers Friend. I read in some of the reviews that it would keep your pots looking new. Not so much. It did however get the rainbow colored water stains out. The little brown specks stayed. The surface where they were was still smooth. I did everything that was instructed, no high heat and wash with warm soapy water. Unfortunately I must have gotten a bad set. I'm not completely turned off by Cuisinart. I have other products besides cookware that I like. I have always wanted a decent set of pans that didn't have a coating. I can understand maybe a little discoloration, but not after its first use. I have only had the set for a few days and have asked for a refund. Amazon has set up for a UPS pick-up. I like that they don't give too much hassle if you are not satisfied. I was thinking of getting another brand of pots, but for right now I will stick with my good old cast iron and basic little set of El Cheapos until I find the right set for me....more info
  • Couldn't Be Better
This cookware is absolutely fabulous. We have been using it for over a month and have no complaints. I researched different brands for months and looked in person at as many as possible. Some were really too heavy for me and many were obviously too lightweight to do a good job. I had shied away from stainless cookware for years because my mother had a name brand set with copper bottoms. Everything we ever cooked in the frying pans burned or stuck. I know now that they were just too lightweight to do a good job.

Cuisinart Chef's Classic cookware was very favorably mentioned in several of the reviews I read as being the best of the "mid-priced" brands. It has a very nice heft without being uncomfortable to hold. The handles on the pots stay relatively cool but the lid handles do get hot. Food has yet to stick although a crust does develop on the bottom of the pan with some things. It comes right off if the pan is deglazed or washed while still warm. Do NOT overheat this cookware (the major cause of food sticking)! I had to get used to starting the temperature on medium or medium-high on my electric stove. Also, use only wood or plastic cooking tools. Metal will definitely scratch it. Some discoloration developed on a couple of the pots but I got a can of Barkeeper's Friend (found in the grocery store with the cleansers) and it restored the pots and pans to their original beauty. I just use it when needed. It is non-scratch.

This set has everything I needed to replace my old non-stick cookware. The stock pot is great for cooking pasta and soups and is deep enough to prevent things from boiling over. The steamer insert is large enough to cook several big helping of vegetables. One great thing about this set is that no cooking tools are counted as part of the set as do some brands. All 17 pieces are actually pots, pans or lids. We looked at this set on Amazon for a couple of weeks and got it when the price dropped to under $200 (plus free shipping). Even the original price (about $250) for this large set of high quality cookware was excellent. I highly recommend this beautiful and functional cookware. Thanks, Cuisinart for a great set at a super value!...more info
  • First class - first rate
Since we received this set and have used it with our new solid-surface cooktop, we see it cooks VERY evenly and on lower heat settings. Cleans easy too. This was an excellent choice....more info

  • Cheap for a reason
I have always loved food and have been an avid cook for decades. I wanted to move up from the cheapo Farberware and other such "ordinary" tools to a better set and bought Cuisinart, because I didn't quite want to go as far up as AllClad with the $1,200 set.

I am sorry to say that I found out soon enough why these are as cheap as this.

First of all, these have the bonded bottoms where a separate heat conducting material is bonded to the bottom of the pot, then sandwiched in with another layer of stainless steel. The instructions that came in the package (and which you will not find in the item description) tells you that if you used anything beyond medium heat on the stove or heated them empty, the conducting layer (aluminum alloy) may melt and the second layer of stainless steel on the bottom may simply fall off. Great. So it may fall apart if I wanted to heat it up empty or just with oil to sear something quick.

Second, the steel is not quite stainless. The mirror finish on the outside held up well enough, but the steel on the inside -- the part that actually touches the food -- is of very low quality. I made a simple stock with a pot and it pitted on the bottom, with a few gray spots. No amount of scrubbing would get these out, whether with Barkeeper's Friend or with steel wool. Subsequent cooking has resulted in more and more spots of various colors with different foods, which can only mean that the steel is of very low quality, with pockets of impurities that will react with different ingredients in food.

I might have fixed this by seasoning the cookware, but remember? You can't heat these empty or the bottoms may fall off.

These are cheap for a reason. If you must have bonded construction and don't have the budget for an all AllClad or La Creuset kitchen, look to Sur la Table for a serviceable intermediate set at a good price. The fact that the steel in these things react with my food is really scary to me because I don't know what the impurities might be and whether or not they might be getting into my food.

Oh and Belgique does the same thing with the pitting. These are cheap for a reason -- because they have gone on to use really lousy materials. Don't fall for it....more info
  • Love these pans
After months and months of reading reviews and some careful consideration I decided to order this set. I am very glad I did. Stainless Steel is very easy to cook with and clean if you follow the recommended use and care despite some of the comments out there. The first washing produced a "rainbow effect" on the pans but I used a little bit of bar keepers friend on it and I have not seen it since. I had been wanting (and needing) to replace my non-stick cookware for about a year but was afraid of cooking with stainless steel but I love it. I kept watching this set and Amazon put it on sale and I got it for about $70 less than anywhere else and received it within the week....more info
