Customer Reviews:

  • Red tea is hard to find
I had come to appreciate the good qualities of red tea, but my grocery store had stopped stocking it. I am grateful to find the tea at Amazon....more info
  • good for kids
My three year old daughter loves this tea. She started drinking it when she was a year and a half old. I add a little brown sugar and soymilk for a bedtime treat. South Africans have been giving rooibos tea to their children for ages. It is high in anti-oxidants and has no caffeine, a plus because I can slip in something healthy in her diet while she's sipping tea with the grown-ups.
I am on my last box and I am grateful that Amazon has started to sell this tea as it is getting increasedly harder to find at supermarkets and drugstores....more info
  • My Favorite!!
I drink a lot of tea both iced and hot. Next to my regular standby black tea as a hot drink, this tea is my favorite. The flavor is great. Considering it is not an expensive tea, it has a very rich, soothing taste. I was recently in the store where I originally purchased it and they no longer carried it. I also checked a couple of other stores who said they did not carry it. Recently while shopping in a store I had not shopped in before I spotted it on the shelf and bought three boxes. All hope is not lost though, at least it can be ordered through Amazon.com or the Celestial Seasonings website. If you are a tea drinker who loves rich vanilla flavor, this tea is for you! If you want a sweet treat without a lot of calories and no caffeine this is a great choice. I hope this flavor is never discontinued -- tea drinking would never be the same!

  • Awesome tea !
If you are tired of the same old teas or prefer a mild tea with flavor, this is for you. This mild yet flavorful tea is a perfect alternative to Lipton with milk. I love the vanilla flavor! Very Smooth tea!...more info
  • My favorite tea.
My absolute favorite tea. I love a smooth red tea, and this is very smooth and light flavored - not overly sweet. Nice vanilla bean undertone in just the right amount for me. You can actually taste the tea, not just the vanilla. ...more info
  • Made me an avid tea drinker
I believe it was in Best Life magazine that I read about this tea, and about the claimed health benefits of rooibos tea. I picked up a box at Whole Foods and from my first whiff, I was in love. Although my wife is a regular drinker of Starbucks' chai tea latte, I've never been a big tea drinker. (My brief foray into peppermint and chamomille teas notwithstanding; I was young and I was following my father's lead.) Now I drink at least two cups a day of MVR, plus a Thermos-ful at work. At first I was drinking it with half-and-half and Madhava Pure Organic Raw Agave Nectar, but I've cut out the half-and-half. I would prefer to have at least a little caffeine, but I guess I'll have to drink coffee or black tea for that. (Lipton Black Pearl tea isn't too bad, and the pyramidal bag is nifty.)

So count me an enthusiastic fan. I am a little surprised at the price here, though, considering that it's available at Target and Vons for less than $2 per box. ...more info
  • Absolutely wonderful
Ah, it's a definitely American story - in 1969 friends Mo Siegel and Wyck Hay of Colorado began selling the herbal teas that they had previously only made for themselves. From such small beginnings came that famous tea company - Celestial Seasonings.

Among Celestial Seasonings' many products is an absolutely wonderful, naturally decaffeinated herbal infusion - Madagascar Vanilla Red. This tea is based on South African red tea, made with roobios (pronounced "roy-boss") leaves, and includes delicious Madagascar vanilla. It tastes great either hot or iced - deliciously vanilla-filled, with a nutty subtaste that makes this tea a great way to end the evening.

By the way, I have found that the best way to drink this tea is hot, with sugar and milk, accompanied by fresh-out-of-the-oven chocolate chip cookies. Mmm Mmm Good!...more info
  • Not my cuppa tea at all - fruity earthy and sweet rolled together
I wanted to love this tea. The reviews here were so motivating. I was seeking a tea I could drink daily with no caffeine, that also would not upset my sensitive stomach. Rooibos sounded like the answer. However, I absolutely am repulsed by the smell (both out of the box and after tea is infused), as well as by the taste and after-taste. I wish I loved it - I love the benefits it is supposed to have for health - but I loathe drinking it. I tried it (1) straight and hot (2) with sugar (3) with sugar and milk. All were horrible. It tastes strangely fruity - but there is an earthy taste that I just can't place that rises up and fills your senses. The aftertaste is like an artificial fruity taste, maybe artificial vanilla. Oh my it is awful. The color is quite pretty - it looks like a cup of pumpkin pie when you add milk - but I just can't down this beverage. Maybe if you like herbals as a rule that are fruity - you will like this beverage. I on the other hand love the flavor of black or green teas. I tolerate the taste of chamomile and peppermint. But this is just too much to ask. No rooibos for me. Sorry!...more info
  • My favorite tea
I love this tea. It is the only tea I really like hot. It is also my husband's favorite tea. I find many teas too bitter, so maybe I like the sweetness of this tea....more info
  • Wonderful tea
This is my new favorite tea! Lovely smooth flavor, and the vanilla is not overwhelming -- it's just right. Naturally caffeine free, no artificial anything, and a good source of antioxidants. My 11-year-old son likes it a lot, too....more info
  • Lovely and comforting
This is one of my favorite teas. It's sweet enough that I don't need to add anything to it, it has that wonderful vanilla aroma and taste, plus it's caffeine-free and full of antioxidants on top of it all. It's light and fresh, completely different from other herbal teas or the white, green and black teas most people usually drink. Love it....more info
  • Rooisbos Rules!
This delicious rooibos tea is caffeine free and contains more antioxidants than green tea. It's soothing to drink and seems to help moisturize your mouth since it is non-acidic. Sometimes I drink mine with a little soy milk and sugar, other times I drink it straight up. If you want a different "tea" experience this tea is for you. ...more info
  • Great
I'm no tea expert, but I had to write a review because this is my favorite. I can't find it in local stores anymore, so I recently bought directly through Celstial Seasonings, but now I know Amazon has it for such a great price, so this is where I'll be getting it from. It has a great taste, I love the Vanilla flavor....more info
  • Celestial Seasons African Tea, Vanilla/Red Blend
Celestial Seasons African Tea, Madagascar Vanilla Red, caffeine-free Rooibos -- my favorite just-before-bed hot tea. I love coffee, and I love tea (Isn't God gracious with His gifts to us?), but I cannot tolerate any caffeine after 5PM. Caffeine keeps me awake for hours in even trace amounts. This wonderful tea has none! And I love the taste of Rooibos and other African teas. The stores in my area have stopped carrying this brand and blend, so I resorted to Amazon.com as a source of supply. If you like it -- and I do -- then buying by the small case (6 boxes) is not a major investment. Hope this review helps you out, tea lover....more info
  • Good Blend
If you're a tea drinker like I am, you've tried many brands, blends and have loads of different kinds in your cupboard.

This is by far my favorite tea out there...I actually stumbled apon it, I didn't even know it existed except that I bought a box of my usual tea and there was a sample pack of this Vanilla Red inside. I loved it. But I couldn't find it anywhere near me in stores.

I checked it out at Celestial Seasonings and found it but it was cheeper here at Amazon and this way I could really stock up. Good deal here.

I normally put honey in my tea as well, but with this one sometimes I don't, it's sweet enough in itself. And, it's caffeine free! For those of you who are trying to stave off the morning cup of coffee in attempts to ween yourself off caffeine like I am, this is awsome...more info

  • What I imagine dishwater tastes like...
I love tea. I was so excited to try this, because of health benefits, as well as the supposedly delicious taste. I bought the whole case with the intention of enjoying some myself and giving some as presents. The reviews were so positive, and I thought the vanilla would have to make it wonderful no matter what. But, I was wrong. To my taste, this tea is awful. It's nearly tasteless (which I do not consider a benefit in tea), but what I did taste wasn't very nice. After one cup, I threw away the box I'd opened and put the unopened boxes where people could take them if they wanted. I wouldn't have given it to anyone as a gift. ...more info
  • A Splendid Tea, Fit For The King Of Beasts
South African Red Rooibos tea, like all "red teas" isn't really a tea at all, but is made from a tealike shrub.

Never mind the technical aspects of tea cultivation . . .

I bought this tea on a lark---I liked the easygoing look of the teacup-holding lion on the box. Not really the best grounds for picking a tea, but in this case it worked.

When steeped, the tea takes on a distinctive reddishness, with hints of fruitiness underlying a definite but undemanding soft vanilla flavor against tongue and palate, which is a perfect relaxant, especially when you ensconce yourself in a comfortable chair before the fireplace at the end of a workday (a light misty rainfall is optional for mood), and sip contentedly while reading your latest Amazon.com selection. ...more info
  • Brilliant Flavor
This has, by far, become my favorite tea. It is so smooth and VERY aromatic. I prefer cream in my tea. The vanilla and milk is so pleasing together and great for all hours of the day. ...more info
  • Homemade vanilla frosting, just like Grandma made
WOW ! I found myself "tasting" a sugar cookie with vanilla frosting. The vanilla flavor is genuine and truly delicious, the color is pretty as well. After the second cup, I believe that I can make the switch from coffee to tea. Celestial Seasonings have outdone themselves ! ...more info
  • Yummy vanilla flavor! Plus decaf!
I was pleasantly surprised by this rich flavorful tea. Some vanilla teas are thin and sickly in flavor--not this one! Celestial Seasoning has managed to make a sweet--not cloying--rich tea mixture that brews up to a fragrant, comforting and enjoyable cup of tea--I add cream to round out the flavor.

Rooibos is the base for this tea. It is a healthy alternative to black teas because it is naturally caffeine-free and loaded with antioxidants--as much as green tea. You can brew this tea for a long time and it will not get bitter because there are no tannins.

Celestial Seasonings gets extra points for their packaging: they utilize 100% natural recycled paperboard in their boxes and they don't package each tea bag individually. Instead they use a system of a waxed paper bag inside the box that stays shut when you fold it. It keeps the bags fresh and utilizes less packaging than individually wrapping each bag. The art they use on each box is beautiful as are the quotes and information they put on every surface....more info
  • love this tea!
fell in love with this tea when I bought it at my local grocery store, but then they quit carrying it. Thank goodness I can get it through Amazon. ...more info
  • I love this tea!
Herbal teas as a whole are not, "my cuppa tea". However I love this one! It has a lovely complex flavor good for anytime of the day, but especially good with a spicy cookie or quick bread, (like pumpkin bread).
I first bought it at my local Wal-mart, but much to my disappointment they stopped carrying it. Fortunately I can get it here, and at a better price! I buy it several boxes at a time, 24 of them last order!...more info
  • No thank you
I love tea, drink A LOT of it, and just really cannot stand this Vanilla Red tea. It has a soapy or waxy component to the taste for me. Perhaps it's the flavoring or perhaps it's the red tea, but I cannot tolerate the tea at all....more info
