Product Description

No more counting carbs, calories, or fat grams! This revolutionary diet plan works with your hormones to curb your appetite, boost your metabolism, take weight off—and never put it on again.

Cutting-edge scientific research shows that losing weight is not about carbs, calories, or even willpower—it’s about a hormone called leptin and how it functions in your body. Leptin is your body’s natural weight-loss mechanism: it curbs your appetite and jump-starts your metabolism. And when those hormones are working properly, they make you literally fat resistant! You will lose weight effortlessly and efficiently, and never gain those pounds back.

A leading expert in the field of nutritional medicine, Dr. Leo Galland knows that if you’ve struggled to lose weight on diet after diet but still can’t shake those excess pounds, chances are you are “leptin resistant”—your body no longer responds to leptin, making it impossible to slim down, no matter what size portions or how few carbs you eat. But here’s the good news: by adding the right foods to your diet, you can quickly reverse leptin resistance and reprogram your body to start melting away the pounds.

The Fat Resistance Diet is the first weight-loss plan designed specifically to combat leptin resistance, using a unique combination of anti-inflammatory and hormone-balancing foods to get your hormones working again. Used by hundreds of Dr. Galland’s patients with remarkable results, the three-phase regimen includes:
STAGE 1: A fourteen-day starter program that delivers a loss of ten to fourteen pounds in the first two weeks. Inflammation-fighting superfoods work to trigger rapid weight loss and set your hormones straight.
STAGE 2: A ninety-day plan that builds on the benefits of Stage 1 and delivers a loss of at least five pounds a month. You can enjoy a greater variety of foods while still keeping your hormones working overtime.
STAGE 3: Sustainable for life, the meal plans in this phase keep your hormones doing their job, even after you reach your target weight, and offer an expanded, flavorful menu.

With delicious recipes that are rich in healing carbs, healing fats, and powerful phytonutrients, the diet is a breeze to stick with—there are no hard-to-find ingredients, no expensive supplements, and no complicated proportions to figure out. Best of all, when you make the Fat Resistance Diet part of your life, your hormones will do your weight-loss work for you! This groundbreaking program at last reveals the true secret to weight loss success, and will transform you from a chronic dieter into a lean, fat-fighting machine.

  • Easy, Tasty, Couldn't be simpler
After 2 wks of following Galland's plan I've already lost 8 lbs. His explanation of the science behind his plan can be a bit wordy at times, but overall is really quite easy to grasp. I love that he has so much research to back up all his claims. The recipes are fantastic, easy and quick to prepare (no dinner has taken more than 30 minutes from frig to table yet) and if nothing else, a great way to get more vegetables into your life without sacrificing taste or the occassion steak. And the portions are huge. My husband's not a dieter so I convinced him to just think of it as trying new recipes for a couple of weeks. Even he loves it - says it tastes like we're eating out at a restaurant every night. The only thing I think the book is missing is a detailed how-to-eat-out section. I think if you follow this plan for several weeks, your taste buds will change, you won't crave so many sugars, bad carbs and bad fats, and you'll just instinctively know how to order better but some guidelines would be helpful. When I have "cheated" on the weekends, I'm finding that I'm not bingeing like I have in the past, smaller amounts of sweets will do and if I do over do it, I feel awful and actually want to get back to Galland's meal plan because I feel so much better when I'm following it. I'm looking forward to eating like this for a long time to come and getting into my high-school jeans again soon! ...more info
  • I couldn't be happier with this diet!
I thought I was eating healthy and was surprised to find the weight creeping up on me, 12 pounds in the year since starting my new job. I've bought the Fat Resistance Diet a month ago and have lost all the weight I had gained, easily. The best part is that I am not hungry at all and have no cravings for sweets any more and the headaches I used to get every afternoon are gone. My energy is great. I couldn't be happier with this diet!...more info

So far this book is an easy read. I like the way it simply describes fat and what it is. I read stuff like this all the time and find this one of the best for new readers of the topic...more info
  • I've lost 16 lbs. so far. It works.
I've lost 16 lbs. so far. If you could get an appointment with a famous Harvard-trained doctor who had a phenomenal record of success in helping anyone lose weight--based on all the latest research. And if it would cost you less than $25--and you would be guarantied to lose weight and stay thin for the rest of your life. Would you take the appointment? If yes, buy this book and follow the advice. I did and you can track my progress below. I eat only the recommended foods and enjoy them very much. And I am so happy not to be starving, or filling my body with "heaven-know's-what's-in-these?" pills, herbal concoctions, or shakes--which, when I stop buying them, I know I'm going to have the same weight problem in 6 months. This is a way of eating that can last you your whole life long. If you are familiar with "SuperFoods", then those same (natural) foods are what you'll be eating in this eating plan...with some very interesting additions. If you don't mind eating healthy foods that have been around since almost the beginning of time--and ignoring every food that was "invented" in the 20th century and that has a catchy name (Tostitos!)--then try this and follow it exactly for one month and watch the weight loss occur. You will never look back. If by chance it doesn't work for you, then it likely means you need to attend to the psychological or physical stressors that hammering your body/life and preventing your body from working as it is designed to. If so, I sincerely recommend looking into EFT as the best way to deal with that. This will be my last post, until I hit my weight loss goal of 30 lbs. which should come in early December, I'm guessing. The comments I've posted since I began eating this way are below.

40 days 16 lbs lost. This is effortless. I am never hungry because I eat whenever I feel like it.

30 days 13 lbs. lost...this has included two vacations where I weathered lots of meals where I was forced to make hard food choices that would have crushed me with any other way of eating. With this method of eating I had no problems at all. In fact, I lost 3 lbs. on my last vacation. This is the real deal--finally a way of eating that focuses on good foods that requires zero calorie counting--and does what it is supposed to do--lose weight--even for a 50 something person with a slow metabolism.

    15 days 8 lbs. lost

14 days in and I've lost 7 lbs. and my body is clearly in weight loss mode. I still love the food choices. I would have lost more, I think, but I spent 5 days at a resort that had an incredible desert buffet and I couldn't help myself from tasting. I otherwise ate the foods recommended at the resort and didn't gain any weight! Interestingly, I've stopped eating nearly as much food--stop at one serving at dinner, where I always had two. Also, I crave all the foods that I'm eating and have lost my cravings for any foods (cheese, sweets) that used to be my downfall. Everything that the book says would happen is happening.

6 days into the diet and have lost 4 pounds. I love it because it's a simple list of approved foods. Haven't been hungry and have had more energy...which has turned my normal 4 mile walks (which never helped me lose weight) into 3 miles of jogging a day. I do like to eat greens and vegetables and fruits, so I've had no trouble taking to this way of eating. I like the idea that I will have a way of eating that I can easily sustain without thinking about it. I'll write more as time goes on

  • This Diet Works!
I have been very pleased with my purchase of The Fat Resistance Diet!

Prior to starting this diet, I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes & taking 500mg of Glucophage 3 x daily. After just 2 weeks on the Fat Resistance Diet, I lost 13 pounds and my blood sugar had dropped to a normal level ~ and after 7 weeks on the diet have discontinued my medication all together (as well as losing 21 pounds). My suger remains within a normal level daily now.

I found the diet easy to follow, once I made the initial adjustment to cutting down my daily intake of sugars & carbohydrates considerably.

I found the book very informative, without being boring. The menus are easy & practical.
I have to say that this book has been a blessing for me as a tool for getting my blood sugar under control....more info

  • Makes sense to me
I bought the book based on a review in a magazine. I like the menu plans, the shopping lists, the recipes. I think it is do-able. I am not sure I believe in the theory but eating three meals comprised of good sound foods and careful snacking twice a day would make for healthy living. I am retired. I cook and eat most of my meals at home. I have over the years lost control over portions. I think using the book with its shopping lists, menu plans, recipes, is the perfect solution to getting back on track. ...more info
  • The recipes are satisfying and the diet works
This diet makes so much sense and the recipes are great. I decided to start it right away. The recipes are delicious, I didn't feel hungry and I actually lost 5 pounds in the first few days. The food is the best part of this diet. It's so easy to prepare and has such great flavor, I don't feel deprived. It's like following a cook book of great meals from different parts of the world, not like dieting. Like Rachel Ray but designed by a doctor. My favorites so far: chicken parmigiano, green-tea crusted salmon, black forest banana split, tuscan frittata. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what I get to eat next....more info

This way of eating healthy makes a big difference in the way you feel. The diet has you eating plenty of fruits and vegetables about nine servings instead of five. The recipes are easy to follow and grocery lists are provided for the first four weeks. Easy to read and follow....more info
  • Great summary of leptin resistance
This book was easy to read, yet gave the reader a grasp of the most recent research on obesity, with the issues of leptin resistance and inflammation.
He has a unique twist on it with the use of herbs to fight inflammation.
After reading this book, you will have a much better grasp of what you need to do and what you need to avoid to get off the dieting yo-yo.
The only way his diet could be improved would be if it were vegetarian, as cooked meat is very toxic. Nonetheless, this book is worth reading just to understand the science in easy layman's terms....more info

  • Science aside, this book just makes sense
I've done all the different fad diets that are floating around. The Zone, Protein Power, South Beach, Body for Life... All are either too carb restrictive or too time intensive (BFL). It seems like I've kept looking for that secret diet that is easy and quick. This book gets to the heart of what we all know to be true: Eat lots of veggies, Eat lean meats - specifically fish and some chx, don't over eat, don't eat after dinner, get your exercise. Hasn't your mom been telling you the same stuff forever? Yet we keep ignoring it and keep wanting bread instead of brocolli. This book explains WHY the veggies and fish help you lose the weight, but the most helpful thing for me was the menus. On all the other diets, at some point or another I stand in the kitchen with nothing to eat that's on the diet, and turn to the frozen chimichanga. This book has shopping lists, menus, recipes... it couldn't be easier. I've been on it for two weeks. I've lost nearly a pound a day. I've never been hungry. I feel healthy, less tired. It's a snap. Forget about the Leptin mumbojumbo... this is just plain healthy eating -- hopefully for life....more info

  • The Best!
I raised my children on Dr. Galland's first book, Superimmunity for Kids. His advice cured them of asthma, eczema and hyperactivity. So, I've been waiting for him to write a book on nutrition for us adults. The Fat Resistance Diet is the answer. He has taken the themes that made Superimmunity so compelling and brought them to a higher level, based on all the research of the past ten years. In fact, everything that he said 20 years ago, which was considered pretty advanced and controversial at the time, has become mainstream, like the importance of omega-3 fats and the antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables. This is not just a diet for weight loss. It's a diet that helps the immune system and prevents disease.

One of the best parts of this new book is that it deals with environmental issues in addition to nutrition. My own asthma had improved a lot when I followed the same kind of diet I put my kids on after reading Superimmunity for Kids. In The Fat Resistance Diet, he explains the relationship between allergies, diet and environmental toxins in a way that really helped me understand why I once had problems with my weight and with asthma and why my kids were sick.

Another great part of this book is the food. The recipes in here are not only healthy, they are delicious and lots of them are kid-friendly, so they form the basis for terrific family meals.

  • It's working for us... Still loving it!
5/2/06: As a follow up... We love the diet and I'm becoming quite the gourmet in the kitchen. I've lost 28 lbs since January 16th. I'd like to lose 5-10 more before going to Stage 3.

The food is fabulous and we are spreading the word to all of our friends and family about this healthy lifestyle. At least 9 of our friends have bought the book. Some just for the recipes after seeing the wonderful lunches we bring in to work. People are asking and I love telling them how we (my husband and I) lost the weight. It's been a challenge but well worth it... I will continue to learn and utilize the information provided in Dr. Galland's book for a lifetime of healthy eating. We are absolutely thrilled with the results!

2/5/06: My husband and I started the diet 3 weeks ago and both of us are seeing and feeling great results. Not only the weight loss (we've each lost about 10 lbs in the 3 weeks) but we also noticed that we both feel better in general. I just realized yesterday that I haven't been taking my almost daily dose of ibuprophen for tension headaches etc.

The website does need work. I have many questions about the menus. We work full time and are finding it somewhat difficult to prepare all of the meals on the provided daily menus. I want to mix them up a bit or substitute the more convenient meals during the week but am worried that we won't get all of the benifits of the program. So far I've been able to pull it off (getting up at 5 a.m. and chopping or cooking all morning) but I don't know how much longer I can stay motivated and continue this grueling schedule.

The food is fabulous and we never feel hungry but for someone who has lived on convenience foods for a very long time, I find the preperation a bit cumbersome. At the same time I feel that I am learning a lot about these wonderful foods and how to prepare them. It keeps me from being bored with the diet as well as keeping me very busy with the preparation. The only other difficult side is the expense of the food but I know that it costs more to eat the right foods. Just having a little sticker shock with my grocery bills.

I would still highly recommend this diet to anybody who wants to choose a healthy lifestyle and lose weight while doing it. ...more info

  • Questionable
It was difficult and expensive to find all the necessary ingredients/juices/groceries, etc. needed to stick to the diet, and then time-consuming to prepare the meals, especially for someone who has limited time and experience. • This Program Delivers
I am a 44 year-old female with signs of RA. I started this diet in an attempt to reduce any inflammation in my body that might aggravate my RA. I have to say, I haven't had much relief in that department, but this diet cut my carb cravings, boosted my energy, and made me feel like I am finally eating the way I was made to eat. This diet just feels right! It's a feeling that you just cannot get from a bag or a box.

It took me about 2 months to see steady weight loss - I've lost a total of 17 pounds so far. And now what I now know about this eating plan is that I can go on vacation, eat out every meal for 4 days, or "cheat" on the weekends or when we have company and not gain a single ounce - I really do keep the weight off without trying and it keeps coming off.
This diet has absolutely done what it was designed to do - put my body back in balance by eating healthy fats and phytonutrients.

The recipes are delicious, creative, and balanced. It did seem like the portions were really meant for two, but I guess it's part of the "loading" stage to get the balance of healthy fats in so they can go to work. It happened for me and I am very, very grateful....more info
  • Cutting Edge Approach
The Fat Resistance Diet: Unlock the Secret of the Hormone Leptin to: Eliminate Cravings, Supercharge Your Metabolism, Fight Inflammation, Lose Weight & Reprogram Your Body to Stay Thin-My husband was always hungry and complained of actual pains from hunger. There is a $10 blood test for CRP that monitors inflammation which is the newest suspected culprit in hunger/cravings and difficulty in weight loss. His blood test was normal. However, the hormone Leptin is the topic in this cutting edge book that caught my attention. A key symptom of Leptin imbalance is constant hunger. This book is a great guide, but don't ever think there is an easy way out of obesity (50 lbs overweight or more). My husband went through over-eating withdrawals while recovering from back surgery. He was taking anti-inflammatories and pain meds for about a week. My husband detests drugs of any kind. He was also suffering from nausea and did not want to admit to withdrawal symptoms, but I did and we had to work hard to stay on track with smaller portions, recognizing "triggers" that cause overeaters to return to their killer snacking habits, and no eating after evening dinner. He now looks great, understands how to eat when we are at a restaurant or party, and has returned to exercising faithfully (the back surgery was pivotal in returning to fitness walks, etc). Anyone who buys this book is looking for the underlying CAUSES of overeating, not just a quick fix. You are on the right track and very smart. There is no magic cure or pill (without adverse side effects). The over-eater has to recognize their addiction and treat it as such. His constant hunger pains are gone. Yea!!! As the book claims, you can reprogram your body to stay thin, but you have to be in charge and stay the course....more info

In fact you feel happy and satisfied and as if you have taken conrol of your life in a positive way....more info

..exercise, avoid trans fats and processed foods. Not much here that we haven't already been told a thousand times. My biggest complaint about this book is that if you don't want to follow Dr. Galland's menus for each stage, you won't know what to add to the next stage without going through his meal plans and figuring out what is different. Lists of what to eat and what not to eat on each stage would have made the plan much easier to follow. There is a bit more information for the first stage including the helpful eating out ideas sheet, but otherwise I felt very lost.

The best thing I can say about The Fat Resistance Diet is that the recipes are very, very good. Easy to prepare as well. ...more info

  • Cutting-edge science explained in way that makes sense
As someone who has done a lot of reading up on diet theories and weight-loss plans--and as someone who has reviewed such books for magazines--I was happy to see that Galland actually backs up his advice with research. I was also impressed with the clear explanations, particularly because the topic of leptin resistance is a novel and complicated one.

I am also aware of Dr. Galland's reputation as a physician and can say that he doesn't jump on a health or diet bandwagon simply because it's popular or trendy. He writes about what he believes in and he believes in it because he's done the research and he's seen it work in his practice. There's a wealth of knowledge in this book, not just for weight loss but overall health. ...more info

I find the plan very good. A few things are missing. Dr. Galland apparently doesn't want to be asked any questions about the plan. The web site is terrible! No interaction at all! No message boards, no Forums, You can't contact anyone to ask questions. cripe! Very impersonal.

Also, the plan revolves around his recipes. Why can't they just lay the plan out with suggested servings of the regular food for those of us who don't want to make his recipes? I find myself flipping around the pages trying to figure out the stage one foods and servings.

Other than his terrible website the plan looks solid, if I can figure out the foods in the different stages.

  • Not the latest fad diet - this stuff really works!
I have been overweight my entire adult life (I just turned 50); I suppose I'm Dr. Galland's poster child for "the weight goes on and never comes off, no matter what you do." I have steadfastly refused to "go on a diet" - I don't want some temporary program that I do for a while and quit, I need a way to change my lifestyle, and this book is showing me the way to do exactly that. I lost 30 lbs. in the first month alone (and 45 in two months); I'm looking for a total loss of over 100 lbs., and for the first time in my life, I actually have hope that it will happen.

Without getting too deep into technical detail, the diet amounts to a kind of biochemical healing from the effects of years of bad eating habits. I have more energy, my general mood is better, even my fingernails are healthier. My doctor is getting ready to take me off blood-pressure and cholesterol medications.

The beauty of it is that I'm not walking around hungry all the time. In fact, I had to ask my wife to make some of the salads a little smaller because they left me feeling stuffed. The recipes are, for the most part, delicious, and we're already finding some creative ways to adapt the principles in ways we prefer.

The three-stage approach is helpful - a brief, fairly radical Stage 1 to "flush out the system" and retrain the taste buds, as well as get some quick early results to boost morale. Stage 2 is geared to more moderate, sustainable weight loss (adding in more grains and more variety than Stage 1), and Stage 3 is for long-term lifestyle maintenance. We were so encouraged that we did Stage 1 twice through before moving into Stage 2.

The thing I like best is that this shows me a way that I can live the rest of my life - true principles that really work, that I can simply live by and not worry about.

A brief postscript (October 2006) - I have now been eating this way for eight+ months, and I am down 90 lb. from when I began. I am off all my blood-pressure and cholesterol medications; my BP is 110/60 (was 140/90), my cholesterol is 150 (was 230), my rest pulse is 54 (was 78). This stuff really works!

I should add to what I said above, by way of full disclosure, that the fridge-fuls of fresh produce we are now buying are considerably more expensive than the processed junk-food we were buying before, and food preparation is taking up quite a bit more of our time. But I would state unequivocally that those costs are easily worth the benefits of health and energy....more info
