Customer Reviews:

  • Good Product for senior exercise
As a senior it is my opinion that this exerciser is best suited for folks in my age group. The biggest plus is the assistance given by the back support and the springs. The rollers are good for cushioning, but little less. Also, it is best suited for those under 5'8" tall. For the price, it is built well enought. However, it would not be suitable for those who are body-builders and power lifters. I do light exercises and it is fine for that. ...more info
I bought the ab rocket trainer to get ride of my stomach. Guess what?

It was hard to get used to it at first but
by only using it only 15 minutes a day not only I lost some weight around my stomach but I lost some weight around my waist as well.

This is an awsome product that REALLY REALLY WORKS!!!!!...more info

  • So far so good
Definitely makes ab crunches a lot easier, especially if you are like me and just getting started on ab training again. And I weigh 205 pounds, so not sure why some are saying it doesnt work if you weigh more than 150. Maybe they are not using the right Spring Attachment >?...more info

  • love my abrocker
The abrocker is fantastic. It's eay to use, compact and can easlily be done while watching television once you know your routine. The DVD thst comes with it has some unexpected added bonuses. Aside from beginner, itermediate and advanced classes for the abrocker, there is an excellent cardio class. It's a dance arobics workout that is easy, fun and a great workout. I am thrilled with my purchase!...more info
  • Resistance
The Ab Rocket is great in terms of the idea of having the head and neck support. In addition it allows the lower back to avoid excessive strain. However, the resistance for each of the various springs seems to be that same regardless of the color spring used. As noted when viewing the demonstration tape, clearly the springs that are on the model are more resistant as the springs actually cause the ab rocket to pull forward. This is not the case when actually using the springs provided. After a few uses it will be necessary to obtain addtional springs that have a tighter fit thus providing greater resistance....more info
  • Unbelievable waste of money
I ordered this product being swayed by the infomercial ad, but once I actually tried it out, I was highly disappointed. I found that even with the highest set resistance, the machine was too easy and I could not feel anything in my abs, and I am not even a person who works out. Also, I found that the back rest with the rollers was really uncomfortable on the back. The curve of the backrest does not actually sit well against the back, and I found that when I leaned backwards on the machine, my lower back was not making any contact with the back rest. The headrest is absolutely useless, not to mention awkward and uncomfortable becasue my head was touching it only half of the time. After trying the machine out for 5 minutes and feeling like I got no abdominal workout whatsoever, my back was the only thing that was sore and that felt "worked out". So I am going to be returning this thing for a refund and look around for a ab machine that actually works out the abs....more info
  • Don't waste your time or energy...
Buying this product! I thought I had found the solution to get my abs into shape but unless you're less than 120lbs this machine will do nothing for you! The resistants are not strong enough to hold you up so you can do the crunches. I used to fall flat on the floor!...more info
  • Abdominal trainer without the "rocket"
I told my husband that I MUST have this equipment to meet my 2009 health goal! When I got it, I quickly putted it together and was SURE that I must have done something wrong as there is no back support/resistant what so ever. The idea is good, but the equipment was just badly design. If I have tried this before, I would not have brought it.... at least, I would not pay any more then $15. It is now sitting in the living room servicing as a "toy" to the kids. Very disappointing....
If you are planning to buy it, go to the mall and try it out first. I saw it on this display just over the weekend. ...more info
  • Eh, it's okay...
I think it is probably better than doing my crunches without it, but not by much.
I think it keeps me motivated sometimes because it is sitting there, but eventually I
might move it and forget about it. Maybe I just have to get used to it. ...more info
  • Half Good and Half Bad
I bought this Ab Rocket about a month ago, and for starters it was way to small for me because I am over 6 ft tall. For starters I had to try to rip the top plastic caps off and that took a while to do, then I had to try and find 2 wooden poles that would fit into the pipes so I can make the head rest higer up on the machine so that it would at least come some what close to the back of my head for support....and then after all of that, when it came to the tension in the 3 different sets of springs that they gave you, well lets just say that the springs that was suppost to be the hardest...well they did not really put any kind of hard tension at all on my workouts....but other then that, I guess the machine might do something to help lose your stomach...lol....more info
  • Works Well
Bought this device a few weeks ago. It does take a bit to get used to. Your body must get accustomed to the movement but after a few times doing the crunches you will no longer have any difficulties AND it does work, that is for sure. The Rocket is durable too. The top head rest was a little awkward for me as I am over 6 foot tall. All I did was wrap an old towel around it and it works fine. I would recommend this product....more info
  • Pretty good concept
Pretty good machine...I plopped on it for about five minutes and already could feel the burning. One important note for all those considering this machine: the reviews that claim the resistance springs don't provide enough resistance is true but IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE THAT WAY. It's actually on the directions for using it on the DVD provided--immediately they state that the less resistance from the springs during the workout is a harder workout. Which should make sense since you're suppose to use your abs to lower yourself and raise yourself--this product provides the minimal support with proper posture guide.

The one thing that kept me from giving this product a fifth star is that I did find it uncomfortable for my head and neck. I just added a small cheapo pillow to add to the level of comfort which was no biggie. It certainly does work your abs and it's not easy (again, it's not suppose to be). Overall, I'm feeling good....more info
  • Only one repariable problem otherwise very satisfied
Within the first few days of use both brackets that hold the securing bar cracked. I was able to repair the cracks with Gorilla Glue. Overall, I am very happy with the Ab Rocket. It makes doing sit-ups very easy....more info
DO NOT BE TAKEN IN BY ABROCKET!!! I did the research online and it sounded like what I was looking for. I bought one from Sports Authority, put it together, tried it, boxed it back up, got my money back. Here are the lies from the AbRocket web site:

--> just 5 minutes a day - You and I both know better
--> I doesn't just fall back - YES IT DOES!

The strongest AbRocket springs are probably strong enough for a 3-year-old but not an adult. IT WILL NOT BRING YOU BACK UP. It is no different than doing a regular crunch or setup. IT GIVES YOU ZERO SUPPORT! If you are going to buy one, get it from Sports Authority so you can get your money back.

  • Helpful assistantce with sit-ups
I ordered the Ab Rocket about 6 or 7 weeks ago. It arrived quickly and was easy to put together. This device is good in assisting with sit-ups and leg lifts. I am very pleased with my purchase and I am still using it. I have lost 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks and no doubt the Ab Rocket is part of the reason, but I am also using the "Thigh Master" and hand weights, and doing my best to eat healthier. Another good thing is it does not take up a lot of space.
If you already have strong stomach muscles and can do sit-ups without assistance I would see no reason to get this, but if you have allowed yourself to get out of shape like me, it is helpful.
It is advertised that the rollers feel like a massage on your back and that the device will support your neck. For me, it does not feel like a massage (though it does provide support while still strengthening your stomach and lower back), and it does not provide neck support like I was hoping. I still recommend the product to the out of shape individual with weak stomach and back muscles....more info
  • Disappointed with Ab Rocket
After watching the commercials for the Ab Rocket, I thought it would really work. I've used it a couple of times and got nothing out of it. I have it on the highest tension and nothing. It really is a waste of money. I'd like to return it if possible. What is the best way to return it?

  • Your ABS will BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just received the Ab Rocket and it is the greatest! I've read all the reviews when deciding to buy and I COMPLETELY disagree with the following comments (carpet stains, noise, made of plastic, not enough resistance) - those are all lies!!!

I'm not kidding. It makes NO NOISE, it is made of metal which is welded (and I weld and so I know what a good weld looks like), it doesn't stain carpets and it has plenty of resistance.

Many people who complain about the resistance don't understand that the resistance is there to help you out and not do the work for you. Imagine how much of an ab workout you would get if you sat in the front seat of your car and hit the button to make your car seat go into its upright position???? And this is the type of support people are expecting!! You would never work your abs that way. The resistance is there to assist you - not do the work for you!!! You have to use your abs for this to work.

The great thing is that instead of using 1/2 your muscles to support your back and neck and the other 1/2 to work your abs - you are using 90% of your muscles to work your abs. You will feel the burn immediately. I just did 10 "crunches" on the Ab Rocket and still feel the burn 20 minutes later.

Do your abs a favor and try it out now that you know what it is REALLY all about. Oh, and the Ab Rocket has an adjustable headrest that fits any size person (my wife uses it lower and I use it on the higher level) - and it is simple to adjust.

I also got the Flexmaster with mine which is also great - each resistance band has fully adjustable resistance.

  • Ab Rocket review
If you want to do sit-ups (crunches) and not struggle doing them, this is the product for you. It's easy to set up and takes just a few minutes before you are ready to go. Don't expect strong resistance even with the hardest level. But, once you get used to it, this is a wonderful product. You can click off sit-ups effortlessly anytime of day. I would recommend the Ab Rocket to anyone who wants to do sit ups and not strain themselves while doing it. This is especially important as you get older. Eric...more info

  • It does work
After watching Whoopi Goldberg on the view talking about the Ab Rocket my mom and I went and priced it on line. It was around [...] bucks. We waited til it was below [...] and purchased it for [...] and change here on Amazon. We just got the thing it took less then 30 minutes for me to put it together and I love it. I can now do crunches. I did around 15 for the first time and ouch it hurts. I use to do this back when I was young but now being in my mid 30's and I have a pouch this works. I just watch the dvd and I would find it very easy to follow. I normally do my work out in the morning while watching tv and then walk in the after noon. This does work. The people that says that it doesn't need to get the other product.

  • Waste of money
I wish I had heeded the negative reviews on this item. It is totally ineffective in helping with ab crunches. The springs offer zero resistence, and there is no support for the back, causing much pain. Unfortunately, I had already disposed of the box, or I would have returned this immediately. I am going to try to secure bungee cords on each side to offer the correct resistence. If this doesn't work, I will give it to Good Will. As far as I can tell, this is a major rip-off....more info

  • Ab Rocket - not for men over 6' tall
I recently purchased an Ab-Rocket; sucked in by their slick commercials promising 6-pack abs, back and neck support with massage all simultaneously. At 6'2" 235 lb, this device isn't designed for someone of my stature. The male models in the commericals must be well smaller than 5'10" as the neck support doesn't come anywhere close to reaching the back of my neck - despite being fully extended. The neck support actually sits in the middle of my back. As far as the massage goes, the padded rollers actually hurt my back. I have to place a pillow over them for enhanced comfort. The price tag is also ridiculous, $100 for a cheap flimsy Chinese piece of C---. I'll have to customize mine to accomodate for my dimensions. If your a male over 6', I'd recommend buying a gym membership instead....more info

  • Effective for creating abdominal strength
I am not a paid reviewer, that's for sure. I looked at the Ab Rocket with a lot of skepticism but with the simple hope that it would work as advertised. This product does work if you use it right. Initially, I approached it from a typical sit-up perspective, but that wasn't the right way. This is good for crunches, not sit-ups. It makes them easier and definitely more fun. Watch the accompanying video and they'll show you how to use it correctly. Actually, I didn't get it till I saw my wife using it, then the light came on. So, first off - it does work. The other good thing is it really is lightweight and relatively easy to set up and move around. It's true as some have said here - the resistance coils do take more effort to change than I would prefer (I needed to use a pliers, actually). But I've had all kinds of exercise equipment and they've always been heavier, bulkier, and more difficult to manipulate than made to appear. This only weighs 10 pounds, so thankfully, this isn't like them. Is it worth $100? I say yes, because it isn't about the value of the materials so much as it is about the value of its effectiveness. Can you get anything else this effective for even near the same amount of money? Not that I've seen. So, if you want an effective way to create abdominal strength then I say this is worth the money they ask for it....more info
  • Not for tall people
I tried the Ab Rocket in a store's display.
I am 6'2" and the back rest is not long enough for tall people like me.
I think it is only about 36" long.
Nevertheless I think there is a huge market for taller people.
Please, let me know when an extended product is available.

  • Not for big people
The Ab Rocket is a nice looking piece of equipment. it's nicely built and sturdy, but it's not made for big people. Like 6'2" 260 lbs. My wife uses it and it works for her. The strongest springs are too light for me, my head sits way over the last rubber rest on the machine so basically I can't use it. The video is fine. So I would recommend this machine for medium size women only.

  • The Laziest Six Pack Ever!!!
This product really works. My sister first got it and when I saw how easy and well it worked I had to get on for myself. You could even watch t.v while doing it. It really is just rocking back and forth, and all you are using is your stomach. Assembly was a little hard, you have to put some muscle in to it, but that is pretty much it. This really works, and coming from a person who use to work out the old fashion way, this is much more effective and if your back hurts with this, it's only because of the tightening of the muscles around your abs. Get this product and enjoy!!!. ...more info

Haven't tried the product yet but wanted to clarify price for prior commentor. Need to read the fine print. On the tv commercial, it's $15 for free trial. Actual price is 3 payments of $39.95 (i.e. more than Amazon price)...more info
  • Great workout...
I feel the remarks about the spring are true however my belief is that the springs only give enough tension to bring itself up and give you some back stain relief. I have chronic back pains and I need to have my abdominal wall muscles to be strong to support my back... This trainer did the trick.. I get a nice burn in 3 sets of 20 and I feel better and better....more info

  • Helps me do sit ups again!
After dislocating three lower back disks over the past 20 years, I pretty much gave up doing sit ups. When I saw this product I thought it would be just like all the others: overpriced, uncomfortable and useless. Guess what ~ I was wrong! I'm using AB ROCKET happily now for one month and have more praise than criticism for it. At just under 5'5" tall, I fit comfortably, however, I could not see a person taller by even three inches getting any benefit out of the neck support. There is no strain on my lower back whatsoever, so the design does what it is supposed to do and I am doing 100 sit ups a day, feeling the results within no time. For me this was the biggest plus since I could not lift my back off the floor for traditional sit ups without the aid of this rocking device. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a basic abdominal workout. My few criticisms were that the three resistance bands were pretty much useless in terms of the lowest being so light it was light having no resistance at all, the middle band not much tighter, and the "hardest" level was just about right. I'd have liked one even harder. The other negative point is that in order to fold the unit for flat storage, you have to unscrew the tension springs, and the plastic caps are not sturdy enough to withstand daily usage. The model in the store already had two broken caps so I'm being extra cautious with mine.
I would NOT shell out the price on tv plus shipping for this, it's just not worth it. But the price here on Amazon is more on target with what a simple at-home machine should cost....more info
  • Waste of money (for me)

  • Worthless
This product is garbage. There is not much for me to say about it. The rollers are designed to "massage" your back. Two of the rollers didn't even touch my back (I am 6', 180 lbs). The ones that did actually were very uncomfortable and definitely didn't give me a massage. Using the product felt awkward and uncomfortable as well but I kept with it for 4 months. After 4 months, there was zero difference with my abs. The meal plan it comes with is cheap and worthless as well. I believe this product is an attempt to jump on the health craze, regardless of whether it actually works. There may be a lot of "gimmicky" ab machines out there that actually work, but unfortunately this isn't one of them. ...more info

  • AB Rocket
Ordered this primarily for my husband. He is happy with it as it does not put stress on his neck where he had surgery 18 months ago. I have also used it and feel it works the muscles needed. I do find that it will go all the way to the floor with our weight but we don't push that far back and then it gives an even greater workout to our ABs. ...more info
  • DEAL with it
After a lengthy bout with chronic illness, I'm gradually building up muscle mass and physical strength again. Following injuries from a car crash, I really must have support to do the sit-ups that are essential to managing form and function.

I bought this from Amazon ONLY BECAUSE of Amazon's excellent return policy. Though I was initially skeptical of the TV ads, I am VERY impressed with the Ab Rocker. I was able to set it up myself without any help from anyone. Very little work involved, mostly pre-assembled. If my hands were more arthritic, I suppose I would have needed some help with the tension springs.

I've used it about 4 times and already achieved significant changes in my abdominal profile (and the fit of my jeans). You have to work with the machine the way that it is made. I expected the rollers to massage my back while I was exercising, but they don't really do that for me. What they do IS awesome, though. When you have reached full extension and the machine back is on the floor under you, then you just relax into the rollers and let them provide gentle pressure for a few seconds before contracting to return to upright. While you are relaxing your back into the rollers, pay attention to how your abdominal muscles are contracted. You may be surprised at the locations and the effects achieved.

Also, be sure to set the upper most roller to support your NECK, NOT the back of your head.

If used properly, this machine delivers. It probably is a little over-priced for it's category. The market it serves best would be better served at about $59 - $69, rather than Amazon's current price of $99. Single moms, military wives, folks with less discretionary dollars would probably buy it at a lower price point. Watch for an Amazon sale, folks!...more info

  • Works for Me
I am a paraplegic and the ab roller has enabled me to do "sit-ups" after 20 years of not being able to use my abdominals. Of course it is taking much longer for me to achieve results, I've definately had major improvements. My posture is better than it has been since I was injured. I'm apparently using back muscles that haven't been used in years. The same goes for the abs, I'm feeling it. My upper back pain has also subsided trememdously as compared to prior use of this product. I would highly recommend this product. Don't expect miracles, but it really does help. Thanks....more info
  • Not suitable for heavy weights
The spring tension is ineffective if you're on the heavier side (180+). At even the highest spring tension the back support just falls flat when I lean my back on the same. End of the day Iam forced to revert to the old manner of pulling myself up for each crunch.

Might work better for folks with a lower body weight.

Assembly is easy and takes barely 5-10 mins....more info
