Product Description

Detox diets are making news as the quickest, easiest way to shed pounds, boost your energy, and get yourself on a wellness track. Popular in the 1970s, cleansing fasts are again all the rage among celebrities like Gisele Bundchen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Stella McCartney, and Madonna. One of the key advocates of the health benefits of cleansing detoxes is Roni DeLuz, ND, a licensed naturopathic and health practitioner at Martha's Vineyard Holistic Retreat, part of the renowned Martha's Vineyard Inn. The idea behind DeLuz's new detox plan is the belief that the foods we eat (along with the coffee, tea, and alcohol we drink and the air we breathe) contain harmful and toxic substances that accumulate in our bodies and need to be removed in some way. In 21 Pounds in 21 Days, DeLuz offers three different detox programs, including the original and most effective 21-day "MasterFast," which promises a 21-pound weight loss in just three weeks and focuses on detoxification through antioxidants, fasting, stress reduction, and lifestyle changes. Also included in the book are: maintenance plans, dozens of easy, delicious recipes, real-life tips, an extensive glossary of terms, a guide to supplements, meals consisting of supplement-laden drinks, herbal teas, thick, delicious vegetable purees, and "live" juices, along with nutritional supplements, vitamins, and enzymes designed to keep the body's systems stable and its cells nourished while harmful toxins are flushed out. 21 Pounds in 21 Days isn't just for those looking to lose weight; everyone can benefit from this revolutionary detox diet that results in a clean, refreshed system that functions at its best.

Customer Reviews:

  • More than Weight Loss
This book addresses how excessive weight is really a symptom of toxicity. I like how it is written to help people understand how their eating habits and food choices bring them to a place of unhealthy living. It also explains elimination therapy, colon cleansing and the significance this plays in being healthy. The testimonials are helpful for people needing examples of how this change helped others. Excellent information and a good place to start for people transitioning away from the Standard American Diet (SAD). I used the 21 day agenda to jump start a longer detox, and followed the guidelines for the gallbladder flush. Overall, I lost 30 pounds in a couple of months and have kept it off. ...more info
  • cleansing diet
This diet was difficult to stay on track but it made me feel a lot better about my health. Its not something that you can do half hearted. But even though I cheated occasionally, I still lost 10 pounds. Good luck!...more info
  • Hard to follow
I found this diet diffiult to follow as it it too strict and too limited. I found another book, "The Liver Cleansing Diet" by Dr Sandra Cabot much easier to follow as it has many choices for each meal. Dr Cabot explains that if you follow this diet you will bring your metabolism into balance and that will bring your weight into correct alignment. I was not feeling well when I decided to follow this diet and within a day I was feeling much better....more info
  • Thanks for the heads up!
I was going to look further into this program. I read an article in the November 2008 issue of Essence magazine. I then checked out the price of the book and kit but was told to read the reviews first. I'd like to thank those of you that gave an honest opinion and kept me from wasting my money....more info
  • Don't Waste Your Money
Totally Pseudo Science Hippy Dippy Nonsense. I read as much as a could until I realized that this book was only about making the author rich. There's one table where they summarize all the popular diets and give their advantages and disadvantages. 21 Days 21 Pounds should be added and the following inserted. "Requires you to stick a tube where the sun doesn't shine."...more info
  • Don't knock until you try it
I had the opportunity to hear Dr Roni DeLuz and was very impress with the information she provided. I think in no means is she trying to promote an eating disorder program. She is offering an opportunity for the body to be detox. I believe you should find out the fact about a product or book before giving unnecessary advise....more info
  • Really Works Well!!
So far on the program about a week and have lost about 9 pounds, I am not going to lie and tell you this diet/detox is easy, but it does work. I had my first colonic today and I didn't care for it very much and skeptical about getting another one, but on a good note I have had a little more energy, finally getting my cleaning caught up, and the pounds are shedding away fast. The book is very informative, full of information on healthy living and modern up to date scientific facts. I definitely recommend the asian spinach soup recipe that is found at the end of the book. It is very flavorful, even if you are not on a detox this is still very tasty. Also you can drink as much of your favorite tea (non caffienated) as you want which has been really nice. The hunger pangs have been hard during the first few days, even though the book claims that you won't feel hungry. I have felt a little less hungry towards the end of the week. A lot of the people that gave it bad reviews have never tried it so I wouldn't let their negativity effect your judgement in trying out the plan. So far it's been alot of fun, and I hope to see more results as I continue. ...more info
  • Well worth following for a healthier lifestyle
I was reluctant at first to try this diet. But I will say this is one of the best things I have done for myself. I made it through the 21 day program and lost 29 pounds. You have to be creative and make up your own smoothie drinks. I used lots of fresh fruits that were in season. Another key is to stay on the schedule so you do not get hungry. After the first two days I found I had a lot more energy and amazingly joint pain I have been experiencing for the last three years had almost disapeared entirely. I found the book interesting and educational on creating a healthier lifestyle. Well worth the money....more info
  • save your money, this one is lacking!
Book is much longer than it should be, with too many testimonials. The important stuff could have been presented in much more detail, along with a reduced number of testimonials to end up with the same number of pages required to publish a book.

The book does not give a detailed schedule of the appropriate program(s) to follow. Although pages 174 through 181 give general suggestions, there are only seven soup recipes, and NO juicing recipes at all! On pages 108 and 113 a good job is jone of describing the health benefits of many vegetables, but there are no juicing recipes for the 23 vegetables that are mentioned. To a novice juicer like myself - especially assuming that most readers of this book will also be rookie juicers - this is just inadequate. I found myself having to resort to the internet to obtain additional juicing recipes, and @ $24.95 for a 223-page book, I was expecting a lot more, especially after spending over $400 for a Twin-Health juicing machine based solely on what I had heard and read about this book. (For those interested, the Twin Health juicer, although expensive, is a tremendous piece of machinery and recommend it.)

Information on the supplements is also weak. for example, the author mentions the importance of certain supplements in the "diet" but doesn't tell you if these items are store-bought, juiced at home, or something else. As such an integral component of the MV diet, the author dedicates only one paragraph to these items. Some examples of the appropriate supplements to buy would have been helpful. For example, a short list of some of the better herbal cleanse formulas, digestive enzyme mixes, etc. that are available on the market would have been helpful. Or, perhaps this information was left out on purpose so that readers would purchase the whole system from the author's web site???

Overall, I found the book generally informative, but containing too many success stories without the details needed to achieve those successes. I also felt like this was done intentionally to drive readers to the web site - which is evidenced by incessantly footnoting the web address throughout the whole book - in order to sell products as part of this "diet".

For these reasons, I would not purchase another book by this by this author, but would instead do more of my own individual research on the topic.

  • Diet Detox book is a ripoff
I bought the book and kept on thinking ok, ok, but where's the beef --sorry - i mean the juice. The book is nothing more than a promo piece to step you up to the next level to buy the kit for $199. Roni talks of juices and soups but its only when you go to the website you realize you have to buy it all from her.

  • this book is a waste
Don't waste your time. It is just a big sales and marketing pull to the website which then wants you to buy product. There is no concrete "fasting" plan at all and there is a very heavy emphasis on religion so you should know that if that makes you uncomfortable. Again this book should lay exactly a plan to do the fast but it does not. ...more info

The product is an excellent source, but to expensive to purchase some of the items needed and not sensible...you can get sick from using it and also according to the curriculm you could have withdrawals. I do not like anything that could create more problems than I already have. Misleading it does not tell you you have to do a curriculm to began to eat again until after you buy the book...more info
  • Save Your Money
This book is nothing but a huge commercial for the website and detox hotel they run. If you do check out their site online, the 'kit' to go with the diet is $199! You can get the same of everything they sell for a total of about 60 bucks at GNC online.

All of the information they offer on doing a juice fast is available for free. Look it up on google and there's a ton of valuable information that goes further in-depth than this book could ever hope to. I also went to my local library and found a couple of books which were much more helpful. None of the other information I've seen regarding juice fasting includes daily enemas or taking supplements/powders....more info
  • Actually read the book and did the detox
It is amazing to me that people will critic something they never tried. I would suggest you read the entire book before starting as it is very enlightening and will help you stick to the program. The detox is not easy but the results are amazing!!! You really do experience a total transformation with mind, body and spirit. This is a detox with the benefits of losing weight. I started on December 15, 2008 with 2 friends and did the 21 days and 7 days of maitenance. My girlfriend and I lost 18 pounds while her husband lost more and none of us have regained any of it back. We did not go back completely to our old habits but made some major changes keeping in step with what the book suggest. My thinking became clearer and my energy level exploded. I just feel so much healthier. I highly recommend this program. I will repeat this process every year and do a quarterly 7 day maintenance program. I will now order my products online at half the price than what I ordered from the book people. The products brand is garden greens and you will need the inner cleanse (2), essential greens (2), vegge splash, acai drink, and protein shake. I found the entire amount for $121 not counting the digestive enzymes. I spend more than that a month on food. You have to determine what your health is worth. Again, I really think it is worthwhile and since seeing my results 6 people I know have started and/or completed the program. They have all been thrilled as well.

  • Totally misrepresented...
This fasting program probably works fine if you have the time and money for spa treatments, high colonics and are into enemas. I will be reselling my copy of this book to someone who does! There are some good pointers on juicing your fruits and vegetables, but that is only a small part of this plan....more info

  • Understand what you're eating and lose weight
This book will help even if you don't follow the diet. Dr. Deluz actually explains in plan English how toxic foods impact our health and our weight. She also maps out a easy to follow. I could only do the diet for 5 days and I'm amazed at my reflection in the mirror. I plan to eat healthy forever and detox again and again. While weight lose was my main reason for buying this book, I learn even more on how to live a healthy lifestyle...more info
  • Mayra in Texas- Healthy and loving it!
I recently completed the detox and have to say, I am absolutely happy and amazed at the results!

Was it easy? No way! Having a drastic lifestyle change in the way you eat, is never easy. It's difficult to go out with friends and family, seeing as you can only stick to the juices and herbal tea's, but when you want it bad enough, you can manage.

I ordered the juice kit from the website, and was very happy with it. $200 may seem like a lot to pay for juices, but let's get real here people....Most of us spend WAY more than $200 on food for 3 weeks! (Btw, after 21 days, I still have about a weeks work left). Also, if anyone took the time to read a bit more...you don''t HAVE to do the enema's or colonics. I didn't, and I feel fine. Maybe one day I'll find a colonic therapist, but I'm still ok! As far as the enzymes, all you have to do is ask for them at the health food store. Not a crazy feat.

Also, I was so pleased with the detox, and enjoyed the way the juice tasted, I was going to order a canister of the zesty tomato vegesplash. When I went to the website, they have not had it set up to buy each individual canister. So, i thought I would take a shot and ask why not. Well, in LESS THAN 24 HOURS, I got a response, letting me know they were working on it. I'm not sure where everyone else is e-mailing, but I know my experience was great.

Honestly, this is not an easy thing to do. Would it be easier if Dr. Roni was there by my side, making sure it was all going right...OF COURSE! Life in general is easier when you have someone guiding you. Thing is, this my HEALTH. My blood pressure was high, my clothes didn't fit, and I was always tired. 3 weeks later, I almost feel like a new person. I'm so happy with the results, I plan to do it again. Good look to everyone! ...more info
  • Great detox and health info
I was hesitant to buy this book as the title really turned me off. But I have been looking for a healthy way to do a detox/cleanse and, from what I'd heard, this book containted plenty!

So I took the leap and bought it.

The title and focus on weight loss still annoys me but the info on detoxing is amazing. I'm actually planning my first detox in the next few weeks, have finished the book and bought the supplements. There is so much good info in here, including how not to lose weight, and the emphasis is really on healthy and the release of toxins.

I'd recommend this book to anybody looking for a thorough and healthy way to detox!...more info
  • Very educational and worth the money.
When I bought this book I assumed that the majority of the book would be about the diet. I figured it would just be trying to sell the diet and criticising other diets. Instead, a majority of the book is about health in general and what "toxins" are and the process of what they do. It is a very educational book and weather you decide to do the actual detox or not, you can learn and apply many healthy habits. ...more info
  • "not that bad"
I agree with K Copper in the fact that I do what I can, I did find a "green drink" at a health food store and it had the green & berry flavor, trying it alone I could hardly choke it down but now I mix it with crystal lite green tea & raspberry flavored on the go packet, it taste much better, & I also found in the natural section by pacific, a veggie low sodium broth for my soup, I so far have been doing it for 3 days and I lost 4.5 pounds, I feel so much better, you do what you can do....more info
  • This book is truly awful, but THE PLAN WORKS!
    I'm on DAY 6 and I've lost 8.5 pounds!

Having said that, let me add that my success so far has been largely due to my own ingenuity and prior knowledge of the many poorly presented concepts this plan adheres to.

Reading this book, I was amazed at the general negative undertone throughout, especially when combined with the insistently surprising references by both authors to their personal religion and faith. While both authors describe in detail their negative health influences over the years (the book reads like one bad health crisis after another), when it came to the positive elements of their recoveries from these health issues, not much was said. I noticed many opportunities where the authors could have pumped up their dialogue with lively positive feedback to empower their reader, yet did not. It would seem to me, if you want to inspire people to drastically change their habits, playing up the positive would be crucial. By the time I got to the "story" about sisters who died after binging on beer and bar food because they did not come off their 21 day cleanse as prescribed, I was done with the bad vibe this book gives off and was left with the distinct feeling if I ever met the authors in person they'd have dark clouds hovering over their heads.

As well as the book being a downer to read, the majority of the program is presented in a very secretive way. Detailed info on supplements, processes and assured recipes are nearly non-existent (the products can be found on an accompanying website, though what you can expect to get in the detox kits sold here is also vague). Who writes a book to help people, then snatches away all the "help" at the last minute? There's that dark cloud again. Clearly the focus for the authors was on making a buck. Offering up true, accessible healing to their readers seems to be secondary, if at all.

Still, once you figure out where to find the program necessities, the diet does work and I couldn't love the results more. Here's the scoop:

The drink mixes and "cleansing herbs" kit are all from a company called Garden Greens. You can find their products by googling "Vegesplash", "Essential Greens" and "Inner Cleanse". You can also double check this info on the MV Detox Diet website by clicking "Buy Detox Products" and thoroughly reading all the info and links in the kit descriptions. Clicking many of the links highlighted in blue will bring up ingredient and nutrition info for the products offered.

All of the other products listed in the book for the program are easy to find at Whole Foods or Super Supplements. If you tell the store clerk what you are using the item for they can guide you to the right one.

I couldn't find the Garden Greens products locally and chose a different brand (with the help of the clerk at Super Supplements) based on the somewhat vague guidelines given by the author. So far, I feel great and the program works as outlined with these products too!

Many of the concepts here are based on principles found in the raw food movement. If this book leaves you thinking, "ok, but why?", check out the books by Natalia Rose. She empowers her readers with an incredible amount of inspiring knowledge, and her vibrant lust for life and good food is immediately contagious. Her book titled, "Raw Food Life Force Energy" is particularly upbeat, fun and packed with info.

  • too much anal
the juicing fast portion is fine, a healthy break for your body from the all american high fat, low fiber, high sugar, highly refined crappy diet, but what's with these new age anal enigma lovers and promoters. Our bodies are designed by nature to flow one way, out, not in. Promoting colon flushing, which is unregulated and potentially dangerous in my opinion is irresponsible and just plain nasty.
This book is not worth your money. Just because Robin Quivers has had good results and the people giving testimonials in this book wealthy enough to attend the authors exclusive clinic in Martha's Vineyard doesn't mean us normal folk will get the results. Do yourself a favor and get a juicer, use the recipies included with the juicer to fill your specific needs, eat less fat and more whole grains, you will feel much healthier and invigorated....more info
  • Don't Judge until you try this!!!
    First, I'm not a dieter.
    Second, I don't do diets!!

I didn't do this just for the weightloss. I wanted to do this to feel better. Today is my 21st day of the detox and tomorrow I start the break.

My wife and I decided on this program after much research. We read both the posoitive and the negative. Having read a large portion of the reviews here, I found it odd how evenly split they were. Those that panned this program all had a common theme, they all wanted this quick easy weightloss program and didn't really see what this program is really about; detoxifying your body and feeling better. Remember, weight loss is a side benefit of this program and should not be the main reason you do this.

Yes, the program was tough at time. My healing crisis lasted over two days, but I got through it. The one thing (of many)that I learned is this: Our association and fixation on food and eating is over 95% mental and that's the hardest thing to overcome. While following the nutritional guidance, physically, I was never hungry, but mentally, I missed eating and chewing but I really wasn's hungry. Once you get past that, the rest is easy. I'm happy to report that as of today, I have lost 26 lbs and my wife 25 lbs. I still have some more weight to lose, but I feel great and I'm ready to start eating with a different perspective and pay much more attention to what I put in my body.

This program may not be for everyone, but if you can maintain you dedication and remember why you're doing it in the first place, you can do it. As for the colonics, when you see what you have hiding in your colon, just sitting there rotting, then you'll have a whole new appreciation for how colon cancer develops. If you skip that and the enemas, your missing out on a major component of this program. ...more info
  • Feel your best!
I did this cleanse because a friend of mine recommended it and it is one of the best things I've ever done for my body. I did it for 15 days, and yes, I lost 15lbs, but more importantly than the weight I lost my body felt the best it has possibly ever felt.

I've read some of the other reviews, people said it was disgusting or they were hungry all the time, and I should say that I did not follow the regimen to the letter. I bought Naked Juice instead of Martha's Vineyard's juices, I used supplements that I liked, I did a Yogic intestinal wash (Laghoo shankhaprakshalana) instead of enemas, I added a pinch of salt to soups I made that were too bitter, and I ate soups at restaurants when I went out with friends. I think in order to keep from failing you have to allow yourself some wiggle room. The end result was amazing ... my friends all said my skin was glowing, my mood improved, my energy level increased, I wanted to exercise, and I felt fantastic in my body. And when I did start eating again, everything tasted SOOO GOOD! I enjoyed food on a level I never knew was possible.

If I'd followed the cleanse exactly my results could only have been better, but the way I followed it I didn't get hungry, I didn't feel deprived, it wasn't disgusting, and I still got all the benefits. I highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to improve their health, and the bonus is you'll get an improved relationship with your body and with food....more info
  • Not A Good Source of Information
First, I bought this book because I believe in cleansing and juicing. I still think both are important, but this is not the book to guide you through it. Following are some of the problems with this program:
    1. The information in the book does not match the information on the website nor the information in the forums;
    2. There is no help from the authors to clarify the confusion or answer questions that have arisen from the book. There are several legitimate questions on the group board, with no answers from the authors. I believe I even saw a posting that they would not respond to medical related questions (interesting since this is supposed to cure multiple medical ailments as mentioned in the testimonials);
    3. Some of the herbs/supplements can be dangerous. As an example, the schedule has aloe taken daily. The bottle of aloe I purchased stated that the product should not be taken for more than 7 days. Reading this, I went on an herbal website. It listed a number of complications from ingesting aloe. Nevermind, the possible adverse reactions between prescribed medications and herbal supplements. Let's get real, most people who start this diet, will not consult with their physicians first;
    4. The drinks, soups, etc. are awful. I had to plug my nose to get them down;
    5. On the group board, the people who have started the mainenance portion are gaining back 6-8 pounds in the first couple of weeks.

I am losing the weight, but have decided to transition to a healthier program....more info
  • Timid to DELIGHTED
Well, I heard Robin Quivers go through the process; I read the reviews before I bought the book. Honestly, the reviews scared me a bit...I was ready to walk away from something that sounded right. I followed my instincts and bought the book and am amazed! This is not for everyone! You have to be willing to try, plan, and take heat from those around you.

I am in day 10 and have lost 11 lbs. I did not by anything from Dr. Roni's website. I have been taking supplements bought at any local health food story, sporadically. I am not very good at remembering them, I think I have taken them for 1 day. I did buy a juicer and a juice recipe book. I buy organic when I can, but don't kill myself to do so. I also buy Odwalla juice drinks when I am at work to make things easier. I also have not done colonics or enemas, although I am not against them.

I FEEL TERRIFIC!!! The weight that I am losing is right around my middle section, right where Dr. Roni said it would come from. I do not crave anything, temptation is easy to resist, and the weight is dropping off at a rate of a pound a day.

If you are looking for a quick fix, this is not the diet for you.

If you are looking for a jump start to a new refreshing life, this is the book for you. It gives very simple tips for living a better life along with the tools to get started. I love my juicer, don't miss my morning coffee. I look forward to new exciting drinks I can make from the fresh produce in my fridge.

  • Unrealistic
I have no doubt that if one followed all the author's suggestions and bought all her supplements this plan would work. However unless you have a lot of time , (to get colonics and give yourself enemas) as well as money (to buy all the additional products you need to follow the daily menu plan) then I do not think this plan is for you. ...more info
  • you can't give a bad review if you didn't try it!!!
I bought the book first & once I was mentally ready I bought the plan from Ebay (much cheaper than from the actual site.) I stuck with it for 21 days & I lost 15 lb. It has been 1 month, today, since my 21st day & I am maintaining & I have lost more on my own. This book/plan altered my lifestyle. I cleansed my body, mind, closet, fridge & pantry. I am a procrastinator too - go figure.

My friend just finished & lost 16 lb. If you are ready you will succeed. I didn't do any enemas, colonics, etc. I did what I could afford & had time for. I treated myself w/something ea week. I did the detox bath (very inexpensive) & I had 2 massages. I didn't juice anything either. I just drank what I bought..I did make the pureed soups during week two. I just boiled and used my food processor.

I also think the book is pretty straight forward - meaning the author knows that most people can not follow nor afford the plan like those people that actually go to Martha's Vineyard Detox Center & have all of the resources provided to them. Maybe going to MVineyard would have helped me lose the extra 6 lbs??? Who cares, I lost 15 and I got past the plateau. I am working out (yes, I actually dusted off an exercise dvd & haven't stopped since 8/2)....more info
  • A long detox, but full of information
I read this book over a weekend and did incorporate a lot of its principles into my daily eating. • You will lose weight - but its a bit extreme
I purchased this book with the intention of doing the program for 7 days, 14 days max. I did the 7 day, did not do the enemas or the dry brushing and still lost 7 lbs. Any longer on any diet without protein you will begin to lose muscle. I have strong willpower, and if I thought it would be a huge benefit for me to do the entire 21 days, or if i didnt have much muscle to lose in the first place, I would totally do it. I did her plan for 7 days and did another detox plan for the other 7 days that allows you to eat solid food. I am an advocate of detoxing - but you should follow Dr. Roni's advice and check with your physician before embarking on such an extreme program. It does work - the weight will come off, but if you don't change your mindset about what you put in your body after you come off the detox, you will gain it all back and then some. I do still use some of the green drinks and antioxidant drinks in the diet, and I love juicing. There is valuable information in there and lots of support groups should you choose to do it. I will do the detox again, but only the 7 day "tune up". ...more info

1st things 1st !! The "21 Pounds in 21 Days: The Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet is a DETOX diet, NOT a fad diet for losing weight.

After a successful detox at Dr. Roni DeLuz's Detox Center, an author by the name of James Hester saw value in marketing it as such, after he himself lost a pound each day on her detox process. A maintenance plan is included for lifestyle change not only to keep the weight off, but to gradually go back to other foods and to make detoxification part of your permanent lifestyle change.

    The "official" website is http://www.marthasvineyarddietcenter.com/id1.html
I've found better pricing for the individual products at www.vitacost.com and www.vitaminshoppe.com and here at www.amazon.com as well.

This detox diet is a way to lose toxins AND weight, ... and it really works! I know because I'm on the diet now, and I follow the posts made at the support group website: http://groups.google.com/group/21-pounds-in-21-days?hl=en. Many successful people stay connected to help others go on to following the maintenance diet and the ongoing "maintenance diet" listserve as well.

The book is sound nutritionally. It is certainly not the only book a person needs to read to understand detox and nutrition, as the subject is so broad. What this book is, is an overview of detoxifying the body, and a sharing of what Dr. DeLuz does at her facility in Martha's Vineyard. I think it was a wonderful thing she's done, to make a detailed scheduled plan accessible to the public, many of whom would not be able to afford to check-in! There are some errors and confusion in the book, and going to the website above will help in sorting out the details. Also a google listserve can be joined to get daily support from others on the diet.

A Detox diet means that it is for detoxification of toxins that we intake from our air, water, food, environment. Toxins attach to our fat. Lose the toxins, lose the fat. Toxins affect our ability to think, see clearly, breathe deeply, slow down our digestive system, cause allergies, fatigue, auto-immune diseases. The list is endless.

This book starts with explaining all these toxins. Once you read how prevalent they are and how badly your body is affected, you WILL want to cleanse your body! This will be a difficult change for many who may not be able to give up their addictions to coffee, alcohol, junk food, dairy, pizza, pain pills, etc., but then only you can decide whether you actually want to become healthier, ... or not.

The book then goes on to explain that green vegetables (not fruits or protein foods) are the foods that help to pull out the toxins. It is a 21 day commitment to cleanse your body using vegetables in easily digestive forms. (This book does not promote vegetarianism.)

21 days is what it takes to create a new habit of eating. And most importantly, with each consecutive day that you stay on the cleansing diet, the cleansing reaches deeper and deeper into your organs. If unable to stay on for 21 days, multiple weekend or one week cleanses are recommended.

There are instructions on how to make the juices and purees and which high ORAC value veggie powdered drinks to purchase. There is no chewing allowed! This is to enable your digestive system to take a break and heal. You will learn what supplements and services that will help clean your digestive system, and help move these toxins out, such as enemas, gallbladder and kidney cleanses that you can do yourself. Colonics, massages, seaweed wraps are optional, but will help you remove more toxins and help you feel better.

This diet requires a good deal of planning, because once you start the diet, there is a schedule to follow in order to succeed in ridding a maximum of toxins. Also, when toxins come out of the fat, they enter the bloodstream. These ill effects will be felt until they leave the body. Hence the massages and colonics to help rid the toxins and feel better! Body parts that hurt before will probably hurt worse until the toxins leave, so you will want to have the supplements on hand and that schedule down pat before then!!

I'm on day 10 of the diet as I write this. I have lost 10 pounds! I am female, 5'11 and was 163 pounds when I started and am now 153 pounds. My stomach is flat now and others notice the difference! I was very achy the first 5 days. I felt extreme cravings for food in the beginning (which isn't surprising with all the excitotoxins added to foods today to keep us "hooked"). The cravings do go away, I promise!

Light exercise is recommended to help toxins in the lymphatic system drain. Saunas and soaks with epsom salts help pull toxins out of the skin and soothe aches and pains. Heavy exercise or work is not advised without adding protein shakes. If one only wants to detox and does not want to lose weight, protein shakes are a must.

Don't let aches and pains scare you away from this detox diet - it means you are detoxing AND! ... that you will have rid yourself of future daily aches and pains. Many have not needed to go back on painkillers and anti-depressants after this diet!

For most of us, the 21 pound weight loss is an awesome bonus, in addition to clearer skin, clearer thinking, aches and pains going away, a better working digestive system, more brain energy, happier moods and more. The change is noticeable, instead of feeling fatigued all the time, you will now go to bed tired and wake up early with an increased abundance of energy you did not have before!

Bottom line -- This is an excellent book in which to change your lifestyle to a healthier one, ... and it works!

Note: One of the hard to find supplements are found here on Amazon: Super Phos 30 Liver Flush(1oz.)

Also: Here's another book that will help convince you to stay on track with detoxifying. Awesome Book with very similar theory and methodology: The Cure: Heal Your Body, Save Your Life

  • I'd rate it 6 stars if I could - I lost 15lbs in 21 days and changed my life
I did the Martha's Vineyard Detox Diet, after reading this book, in February 2009. In less than 21 days, I literally changed my life. Yep, thats easy to say. But I've gone on to create a blog site to help others do the same. That's how strongly I feel about it.

If you are tired, exhausted, even mildly overweight and just can't remember the last time you felt like "yourself", then you OWE it to yourself to read this book, and consider how you would like to feel in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years. Do you need to continue feeling bad, or can you do something about it??

I've had 3 kids in the last 6 years, gradually putting on weight with each child. I also work full time, and like lots of other working moms, I have a crazy life. I was continually exhausted - from the moment I had to DRAG myself out of bed, until vegetating in front of the TV at 9 or 10pm at night (if I was lucky that night...).

This book and diet changed my life. I have much more energy. I've been able to get up 1-1.5 hrs earlier each day, do a workout, make my juice, etc, and I've even manged to have enough energy at night to start blogging - I've created a blog site to help others make this life change. Check it out at - http://newhealthydiva.blogspot.com/
I have support information, tips and tools, recipes, shopping lists etc. I've just been through this. You can take control of your life too. Sign up at my website and buy Dr. Roni's book. You won't regret it....more info

  • Yuck -triple yuck and yuck!!!
To start - it sounds great. Lots of healthy fruits, veggies... reality is it is so disgusting! And they never really tell you what to do. There are clues throughout the book - but you really have to look for them. A friend did this diet and she looks unbelievable and feels unbelievable. After 2 days my gag reflex wouldn't stop. The upside is that any other way of eating to benefit your health after this one is pure bliss! I haven't cheated on my new diet in 3.5 weeks. Just thinking about the Diet detox keeps me on the straight and narrow!-...more info
I finished the 21 day detox about a week ago, and I feel incredible. I did make my own juice both the berry and veggie, I used as many orgainc foods as I could in some cases I used regular veggies, just washed them really well. I did suffer from caffine withdrawal for a few days, but after that it was smooth sailing.

I lost 15lbs- I lost a ton of inches, all my clothes are loose, for a diet motivator it was a great one. But really it made me re think my food choices that lead me to be overweight and toxic.

I now have the relationship with food I've always wanted, food tastes better now, i think it's because I rid myself of the need for a ton of salt.

I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone who has the will power to stick to it, I did eat some fruit and some veggies along the way because I really craved them, but a few bites, I was fine and didn't binge on anything bad for me. I set 7 day goals, and on each sunday night I had a salad....that kept me going. I feel awesome! I've set a healthy diet plan going forward and I still drink green juice for my snacks.......more info
  • This book changed my life
This book changed my life, gave me back the vitality of my youth, increased my sense of well being, helped me feel connected to the universe in a spiritual way. Everyone who sees me asks what i have done. I tell them I got rid of toxins in my body, that my taste preferences changed so I no longer like most foods i loved in the past, and that i now am on 90% fresh, raw, organic fruits and vegetables and feel wonderful. While there may be many ways of achieving this state, this book was so efficient for me that I recommend it to everyone. ...more info
