Customer Reviews:

  • Bad top
The top to this bottle is cheap and does not seat well. Each time I put the top on, the threads don't match up and it needs to be reseated. It is very annoying. The mouth of the bottle is also poorly built - its rather rough/sharp and I'm always worried about cutting my lip on it.
I do not recommend this product....more info
  • Unlikely food-grade steel
I can repeat about the design mistake with the thread size/depth, which is not sufficient for the soft plastic material of the cap. However, I was more surprised when I have found it is magnetic, not as pure iron, but quite detectably. Steel 304 in not magnetic, but the package claims it is made of it. Thus, it is more likely the bottle is made of some version of 4** steel, being a few times cheaper, of some another lower-price iron alloy. Not-304 steel would explain some "metallic" taste some reviews mentioned. Thus, it is likely one more "falsified" product. Let's just help the metal does not release some poison....more info
  • Serves its purpose
I don't like the screw on cap too much - takes longer to screw on and off than traditional water bottles, but it serves its purpose....more info
  • Horrible bottle and even worse customer service!
The bottom of my bottle separated from the sides after two months of use. I brought this to the attention of the company and at first they ignored me, then told me it was my fault. I'll NEVER buy from them again!...more info
  • stainless steel bottle
nice size ss bottle for general use. but they use a plastic cap with fine threads so you must be careful not to cross thread. One of the 5 bottles I received had bad threads and is very hard not to cross thread wear as the others are not as bad but could be a problem in the future. The 40 oz bottle uses stainless cap with large threads which I think is the only way to go after comparison.

    good luck!...more info
  • Not as good as their other bottles
I bought two of these earlier this summer for my wife to get away from more plastic since she was pregnant. The bottles work fine. The seals are great and we never had leaks, but the caps were VERY easy to cross thread. One of the two I ordered actually came cross-threaded and I had to send it back. Amazon was amazing and we had a new one very quickly.

The cross-threading issue continued tho and every so often I'd find a sliver of black plastic in my bottle(or my mouth). This was very unsettling so we ordered some of the bottles(also by New Wave) that have the large threads(a la kleen kanteen). New Wave Enviro Stainless Steel Water Bottle (1-Liter)

We LOVE these and have been using them since. The others are sitting in our cupboard, waiting for the next garage sale....more info
  • Didn't Last
I purchased this bottle in September and loved it at first. I took it everywhere with me. The only problem at first was that I got lazy and didn't screw it on totally so I wouldn't have to unscrew it to take a drink and found myself with leaks in bags, etc. So, now after a couple of months, I have found that screwing it on and off every time I want a drink has worn the threads on the cap. It no longer holds tightly. I won't buy another of this brand. I need something easier to drink from and more reliable....more info
  • Perfect!
This thermos is perfect for my needs. It is not plastic or aluminum, both which are extremely hazzardous to our health. It is stainless steel, light weight and perfect for school lunches....more info
  • leaky bottle
The bottle looks cool, but it takes about 10 turns just to open and close the bottle and it leaks. The paint is starting to come off of mine too. I didn't realize at the time that I bought it, but stainless steel sweats pretty bad too. If I had known these things, I would have chosen a plain silver bottle with a different type of top....more info
  • Okay but not fabulous...
If you are looking for a cheap and *very* light use bottle... this one works. If you are looking for a quality workhorse bottle... this is NOT it.

The quality of the screw cap ring is bad. There aren't enough threads to really get the top on tight. It either spins or leaks slightly.

The tinted paint layer is thin and does chip/scratch pretty easy with typical use.

They are made in China if that is a concern for you.

Save your money and buy a Sigg bottle for the same kind of bottle but much higher quality. Or a Klean Kanteen. I own both and they are 10x the water bottle. I have four children under the age of 8 that used these bottles and they just don't really hold up like the Sigg or Klean Kanteen....more info
  • Tight Threads Leave One Drinking Plastic
The threads on this bottle are entirely too fine and not carefully crafted. No matter how carefully I thread the cap I end up with very fine slivers of the plastic cap floating in my water. So, instead of chemicals leaching from my plastic bottle into my water, I can consume the plastic directly.
The bottle cap design also makes it rather slow and tedious to replace the cap without thoroughly shredding the plastic threads....more info
  • I was right all along
My husband thought it was a dumb idea when I purchased 2 of New Wave Enviro water bottles. I explained (very patiently) that plastic & aluminum were not good for your health & that the stainless steel bottle was best for the environment and for our health. We have a faucet water filter so taking water along whether it's to work or on an outing saves money as well. NOW, he takes his New Wave Enviro bottle to work every day and has conceeded that once again, the wife knows best. "It was a really good idea" was finally heard from his mouth. I had been shopping for stainless steel water bottles for quite awhile but was put off by the high prices, this was a great deal and I'm very pleased with them. This was the most reasonable price I found and the bottle is of good quality. ...more info
  • Great economy bottle
I'm very happy with the bottle. Unlike some other reviewers, I find that mine does not leak. The colored coating is pretty tough, but does show wear after awhile - I would be more surprised if it didn't. I did find that the cap was a bit difficult to keep threaded the first dozen times I screwed it back on, but then it got worn in and is fine now, A great plastic-free water bottle!

    Don...more info
  • Good for the price --> Cheap
Not a great product. Plastic lid looses threads, and my mustache hairs get stuck in the "ring". ...more info
  • Not that great
I am disappointed in the product. The screw top lid does not go on easily and the water bottle gives the water a metal taste. I would not reccommend this product at all.................more info
  • it works
everything works great accept for its a little hard to screw back on compare to the other brands. but for how much it cost, not really a problem....more info
  • no good water bottle
The top is sharp where a person would drink from. The water smells moldy if left overnight. And the paint chips in the dishwasher....more info
  • It works, but costmetically it gets worn very quickly.
I purchased the item at the beginning of April 2009. It works just fine for the purpose that I intended it for, which was to hold water.

I didn't need the hiking clip on the lid, so I took it off.

I first noticed the wear on the item about 2 weeks after using it. The color on the bottom started chipping away. When I first washed it, I washed it by hand. The second time I washed it I put it in the dishwasher. Big mistake! I should have known better, but I wanted to sterilize it. That is when the color started chipping away in bigger chunks and it wasn't just at the bottom, but along the top.

Needless to say, the item still works, but cosmetically it is ruined and I don't want to be seen in public with it. Also, I've only used it for water and it gets a slight metal taste after a while.

I should have listened to the other reviewers, but I wanted to try it for myself. I will be shopping for a better product in the next couple of days. Hope this helps....more info
  • bad cap
I like the idea of getting away from the plastic bottles and this is lightweight and in lots of nice colors. The negative to this design is the cap is hard to fasten and can leak if it's not on perfectly. Hopefully they will redesign the caps and then it would be a perfect bottle....more info
  • Tops hard to align to screw on.
The only problem with this bottle is that the taping on the top is hard to line up properly to screw it on. I have a hard time with it and my kids can't do it at all. Otherwise it's a great product. No metal or plastic taste in the water. And the loop on the top is handy for attaching to it to things when carrying a lot of stuff....more info
  • Weird taste
The bottle arrived to me scrapped on the side, but still functional. It is very handy, however it has this weird taste when you drink from it. I think it's because of the rubber screw top. Other than that, it works just fine....more info
  • Wouldn't give it to someone with low patience. :-)
I like this bottle; the size is just what I needed, and the color is durable. I think this type of finish is preferable to the opaque paint-type finishes you see out there. My only (and small) complaint is that most times, the lid does not want to thread correctly; you have to slowly and patiently turn the cap. Not good for someone who doesn't have the patience to do that every time. I just get the feeling that the plastic that the cap is made of would not be able to handle multiple incorrect threadings. Maybe it could, but I like the bottle so much I am not willing to take the chance. ...more info
  • great alternative to plastic
This water bottle is perfect for having handy on my desk at work for filling from the water cooler. I must admit, the color is the real reason I bought it, but the mouthpiece works well and is still large enough to fill from a tap....more info
  • Spend the extra money
This bottle is cheaper than the price you pay for it. It is really not worth it. Within 5 uses of the bottle the threads for the cap have already stripped out and I refuse to spend 4 more dollars to buy a new one. There are much higher quality metal bottles for only a few bucks more!...more info
  • Paint is chipping after the first week...
I bought this after losing a very expensive Sigg bottle, hoping that the quality would be comparable. The paint chipped after the first week of use, and i'm not very tough on these bottles. I guess I'd rather spend twice as much for the durability of a Sigg....more info
  • Cheap. Don't purchase
As others have noted, these are very cheap. One of the new ones I received had threads not molded correctly on the cap, so it won't seal. I expect the other will end up failing over time.
These are cheap pieces of garbage and would not suggest anyone purchase them.
I will also have to remind myself to read reviews prior to purchase....more info
  • Blue Bottle
I wasn't very satisfied product because it was poorly made even for the amount that was paid for it. The cap was of very light plastic, the rim of the bottle was very sharp for a person's mouth. The bottle itself was dented and had discoloration at random places. the clip that came with it was very faulty and improperly made....more info
  • Bottle leaked
I bought two of these. One started leaking from the base within a week and the lid didn't fit properly on the other....more info
  • Plastic Cap is poorly designed
The plastic caps for these bottles are poorly designed. Probably the manufacture did it on purpose so they can make more money on customers who need to buy extra caps to keep their bottles. The plastic cap threads are not properly made so it would not be thighten or losen smoothly. Then the threads are tripped easily. So you not only have to buy a new cap to keep the bottle, but also swallow the stripped plastic in the water....more info
  • Junk bottle- don't buy
As others have pointed out, these bottle have a serious design flaw with the cap, and there are apparently no replacements available. Below is a letter I just sent to the company moments ago. I'll update with a response if I get one.

I purchased four of your 20 oz stainless bottles for my family and am pretty disappointed with the cap design and general durability. Three of them have the colored finish that immediately began to scratch and chip. While we can live with that, the bigger problem is what I think is a serious design flaw in matching a fine-threaded plastic cap to stainless steel. For my kids, (and despite my coaching them how to do it carefully), it was just too easy to cross-thread the cap at the first turn. In only a few days, the caps were completely stripped out. While the carabiner seems like a good idea, it mostly is just in the way and is actually too light-weight to support a full bottle of water for very long before it breaks. I used a larger climbing carabiner on mine, but then the plastic loop of the cap broke off. I've spent quite a while trying to find a source for replacement caps but have had no luck. I would not purchase these bottles again or recommended them to anyone. Any environmental benefit of purchasing these reusable bottles has been rendered ridiculous by their flaws, as now I just have a bunch of bottles with no caps and are now of no use at all....more info
