The idea that blood type plays a role in health, wellness, and personality wasn't exactly new when Dr. Peter D'Adamo came out with Eat Right 4 Your Type in 1997.   • A must-have possession!
    I found this book to be even more scientific than ER4YT. Being that I am a Registered Nurse, it's important to me that the concept of eating and living according to your blood type is based upon scientific research. This book is quite involved in scientific jargon for maybe a lay person with little or no medical knowledge. One may find it slow to get into. However, it answered many questions that lingered in my mind from reading the last book. However, if you want to cut straight to the chase, just go directly towards the back of the book for instructions on how to eat and live right for your type. This book is a MUST-HAVE possession if you value your health like I do!...more info
  • This is not a diet, it's a liberating way of life.
    Knowing your blood type, and beyond that whether you are a secretor or non-secretor (both tests can be ordered from the book) gives you the valuable information to begin a whole new way of eating and a whole new energy level. This is the book I've been looking for my entire life! I've been following LIVE RIGHT FOR YOUR TYPE's guidelines for a few years and have never felt better. I also use Dr. D'Adamo's blood-type-specific vitamins, minerals and herbal preparations. This way of eating makes such logical sense to me that I'm amazed that it hasn't become a way of life for the multitudes!   • Life-Changing
    This book changed my life no doubt in less than a week, before I got the book I didn't even know my blood-type but when I compared the different blood-types I had almost all of the negative symptoms associated with one type. So I went to the Dr and had blood drawn, and no surprise I was correct in my assumption and Dr. D' Adamo is a genius. I feel like I haven't been truly living until I changed my diet last week, there is so much information in here that I can't begin to sing it's praise.

    I'll leave the more detailed reviews for people who have a lot to say, I myself am speechless as of last week. My family can't believe the change that I underwent without spending any money except for the $16.00 for this book. Had I known that my life was waiting for me in the pages of this book then I would've known that it isn't about the money- the book is priceless....more info
  • The Closet Explanation Of How Food Effects Me That I Found
    After reading these bad reviews by people who don't understand why the food lists are one way in Eat Right 4 Your Type and foods are deleted and added to the list in Live Right 4 Your Type, may I just say "DUH". Didn't they read the part in Live Right 4 Your Type where Dr. D'Adamo states that his first book was written in 1998 and since then, technical advances have made more new research available to him so as to be able to refine the food lists for each type? Oh, I guess they skipped that part.

    I am following my plan and slowly eliminating the avoid foods and adding more beneficial foods. I've notice the big change in my energy and ability to exercise. I'm happier and look forward to the days now. On a low carb diet I was tired all the time, depressed and had no energy. I find the science fascinating and the bad reviewers should actually try something before they start knocking it. I noticed none of them even bothered to give the plan a chance to see if they felt better or not....more info

  • Are you living "right" for your type?
    Let's face it, there have been a lot of arguments against d'Adamo's diet plans for each type. Beyond that, anyone who takes the time to peruse the reviews of the texts he's authored -- or better yet, the user forums on his website, will realize that his diet has worked for thousands of people. You may dismiss his writings as pseudo-science or even fiction, but the truth is: it has worked for many.

    While I find some of the medical and scientific bases for his claims to be a little loosely spun (personally, there isn't enough reference to reputable sources of knowledge for me), it does provide an interesting anthropological take on lifestyle and cause of disease. I have to admit, many of the foods on the "avoid" list for my type are ones I already knew I had allergies, intolerances, or simply distaste for.

    Even following Peter d'Adamo's diet ever so casually, I've seen improvement in many areas of health. I especially recommend this book to those who've experienced the frustration of fad diets that eliminate all the "good things" in life and force absolute adherence -- Peter's does not, with the understanding that most of us are "only human" and will end up breaking a diet that is too strict; rather, this diet is about making a permanent, lifelong shift to a healthier lifestyle and diet....more info

  • Why it works?
    Before reading D'adamo's book, I suffered from being tired and unable to concentrate. After years of feeling this way, I decided to change my diet. I cut out sugar and white flour and only ate whole grains and vegetables like my vegetarian husband. I also created a journal that recorded how I felt after each meal in an effort to weed out foods my body didn't respond well to. I did this for three months and became more and more frustrated. The moment I put food in my mouth, I could count on being tired for the rest of the day.

    Then I picked up D'Adamo's book and read it. I found out I was type O blood and began trying his diet--even though I was skeptical. I was shocked at what I discovered! I noticed a difference right away when I severely cut down on grains(wheat entirely) and added fish and red meats to my diet! I noticed that whenever I slipped up and ate wheat or oats, I was tired afterwards. What a discovery!

    Months later, I started exercising again and decided to test for myself what kind of exercise made me feel the best. I noticed that, once again, I fit D'Adamo's profile perfectly. I was very impressed and surprised that quick walking on the treadmill for 20 minutes left me feeling tired whereas vigorous excercising on the stairclimber for the same amount of time left me fealing invigorated and energized!

    In addition to the above discoveries, I also realized the link between my allergies and grains. I now KNOW that when I pop something in my mouth that is not a vegetable or protein, I am going to sneeze within a couple minutes. My body just doesn't respond as well to the environment if I am not equipping it properly with healthy foods and exercise!

    No one believes me when I say his book has credibility because it seems ludicrous that so much importance on diet can be based simply on someones blood type! I agree, it does seem implausible that with all the genetic factors, blood type would play the most predominant role... I truly don't understand how it could even be that simple...maybe there is more to it? But... What I do understand, and can testify to, is that I had felt tired and fatgued and for the first time in YEARS, I felt alive again. No other diet--or doctors pills--made me feel like I do now!

    I continue to share with others that his recommendations worked for me in hopes that others who are suffering from illness or poor health will at least TRY it!...more info

  • At Last, the Details We Have Been Waiting For
    The details that were left out of D'Adamo's first book "Eat Right 4 Your Type" (because they were considered too technical for the general public) are all here, making this a complete diet and lifestyle manual for those interested in understanding what is right for their individual blood type. Lots of current health research relating to blood type is fully referenced, giving it a good scientific basis. To make the book work fully you have to know not only your basic blood type, but also your 'secretor status' - available by further testing. It takes a little while to get to grips with the '2-Tier' system used by the author, one tier for those who may only want to comply with their recommended foods to a limited extent, and one tier for those who want to do it all the right way. Also watch out for the typos in this first edition, and check out D'Adamo's web site for corrections before getting too fixed on what you can or can't eat....more info
  • Live Right For Your Type
    This book is outstanding! I have read all of Dr. D'Adamo's book and have applied his findings to my own blood type with incredible results. Although I thought I was a healthy person since following his suggestions my allergies have cleared up, I have lost weight and I am going through menopause drug free. Before his diet I was mostly vegetarian with some fish and chicken and trying to follow the low fat high carbohydrate diet and created blood sugar problems. The diet was completely wrong for a Type O and I felt miserable and gained weight. I am very thankful for his research and really get annoyed at critics who know very little about his diet and who have not applied it to their own blood type. This includes doctors or anyone else connected with the medical establishment!...more info

    could also be the title to this book. About 90% of the people who use the advice in this book seem to get results from it. Personally , it has changed my life. Weight loss is ONE of the top three benefits of this diet. I am not sure if it is the top one either. Calling it a diet is a disservice. Diet connotates dying. I refer to it as a LIVEit . Because it is something you can live with and BEGIN living with.But be warned once your go to the blood type diet , you can't go back......more info
  • Not explained
    I have been on this diet for about 5 months. I have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and hypoglycemia (Type B+).

    I have seen little change since I went on this diet.

    However, I'm most disappointed about the explanations in his book. I read his first book, ER4YT, in which he gave virtually no explanation for his recommended and avoided foods. I was hoping that this book, LR4YT, would give explanations. What I found, however, was various scientific explanations sprinkled throughout the book for various problems -- but little mention of how he concluded what is a recommended food, what is a neutral food and what is an avoid food.

    He makes no mention how he tests the thousands of foods he lists; what he actually test for; what exactly happens to the body when the right and wrong foods are eaten; and why there are so many healthy people eating wrong foods all their life (will it eventually catch up with them? In how long?).

    I have submitted these questions on his web site, but he has not responded....more info

    Wow! This follow up book to the original ER4YT is awesome! Modern medicine in our western world is sadly ineffective. Our lives should be lived like animals. Full vitality, till the end(100-120 years.) Unfortunately we are informed by the "experts" that a lifespan to 70-80 years old is lucrative. Nonsense! Not to mention those quarterly colds and seasonal flu's that we all "catch." This is not the way our body is suppose to exist in nature. Our God given created minds are both our saviour and destroyer. This book will help you choose the path of Hippocrates greatest contribution to life and medicine(which is illness preventative living!) The famous quote sums it up to all those with faith to accept the fact that food is our greatest medicine. Dr. D'Adamo is a wonderful prodigy out of the Bastyr college of naturopathic medicine. Top notch, cutting edge, "scientifically" studied literature. Read this book and more important "apply" its principals! You won't be dissapointed....more info

  • Lacks the pizzaz of "Eat Right" and "Cook Right"
    I thoroughly enjoyed both "Eat Right 4 Your Type" and "Cook Right 4 Your Type;" they were truly super books! While this one may be beneficial, it is not nearly as interesting. As I read through the pages, I found some of the statements given contradicted information given in the two earlier books. There was also a certain degree of repetition of the material in previous books. What new information the book did contain, especially when it came to the Lewis Blood Grouping and secretor status, was worded in such a technical nature, I was ready to throw up my hands and say, "Who cares?" Yes, I realize the information has merit, but the wording simply did not hold my interest. One other flaw with the book, was the size of print used in the tables; you almost need 20/20 vision or a magnifying glass to read the tables.

    If you have not read any of these books, I would highly recommend you invest your money in "Eat Right 4 Your Type" or "Cook Right 4 Your Type" (which was actually my favourite)and save this one as a last resort....more info

  • Eat Right For Your Type
    Since the longest most thorough reviews printed here are negative, I have much to say regarding this Blood Type theory. It has changed my life. Altough there are many times I do not strictly adhere to the diet, I stick to it at other times because it is the ONLY sure bet I have found to feeling WELL. Initially it is very difficult to break patterns of eating developed throughout a lifetime. However, I spent my life wondering why I didn't feel good after eating pasta/bread or why my stomach hurt after drinking orange juice or why I had a terrible taste in my mouth after eating sugar. If you are looking to this diet to solve your negative attitude or obesity, obviously you may need further help. However if you just wish to live at your optimum and maintain a healthy weight, this book is platinum!...more info
  • Better and broader in scope than Eat Right 4 Your Type
    Here the author covers much more ground than he did in Eat Right. There is a thorough description on each blood type, including temperament, response to stress and emotional stability, metabolism. There are detailed recommendation for each blood type on nutrition, lifestyle, sports. Also, there are descriptions of blood type's inherent vulnerabilities to various diseases, and how to overcome them. The author includes a good list of website resources at the end for further information on this fascinating medical framework....more info
  • I thank God for this book.
    I don't generally like diet books or health food theories...but D'Adamo's system validated some of my inexplicable food preferences and dislikes (Why don't I like chicken? What's so great about roast turkey or pineapple?) so I decided to take a chance and try the diet. I was shocked that within a few days of following the guidelines for my blood type, a number of chronic health problems disappeared.

    D'Adamo doesn't have all the answers, but he has definitely brought clearer thinking to my food choices. If you want to skip the theory and get right down to what's for dinner, "Cook Right 4 Your Type" will give you a useful range of menues and recipes. One book is not a major expense.

    As to all the other books, products, and services the author provides: I don't mind if the author makes a lot of money. I believe he deserves it!...more info

    My cousin referred me to Dr. D'Adamo's first book, Eat Right for Your Type. Live Right for Your Type is even better. The diets really work! Who would ever want to go on another ridiculous diet, after learning to follow the tips in this book? You just lose weight naturally by following the guidelines & avoiding the items listed as "avoid." Anytime I think I can eat anything I want, I start gaining weight. However, eating right, in this case, doesn't mean eating less. It just means avoiding foods that don't work well for your blood type. Don't miss it!!...more info
  • It Works For Us
    My husband and I are both AB's--thus the bloodtype approach to food preparation has been somewhat easy for us to deal with. For the past three years we have been using the concepts in ER4YT. Having lowered our cholesterol count and raising the general level of our well being (no more sinus infections--no more annual bouts of bronchitis)--we are definitely believers and ready to embrace the concepts in this new book. Although AB's are rare and the chapter discussing us is smaller than other chapters--we are finding many gems by which we will be able to live life more fully. Because of Dr. D'Adamo's work we are healthier and more in control of that health. This new book is a wonderful adjunct to the first two.     For the past four years, I have been a committed follower of D'Adamo first book, Eat Right 4 Your Type. Following the type O diet has changed my life, as I have lost weight, become more balanced and focused, and have stopped the yoyo dieting that was a constant practice. I am pleased to report that this new work solidifies a lot of the material presented in Eat Right, explores the scientific underpinnings of blood type in fascinating detail and provides much more than a weight loss program... rather a program for lifelong health.   • excellent book
    I bought this book because I'd read about the blood type diet elsewhere, and was curious. THis is an excellent book, and I've followed D'Adamo's advice for over two years now. He not only tells you which foods you should and shouldn't eat, this book also relates different diseases to blood type. When my son started having ear infections I suspected that he had A or AB blood type, and sure enough, he's AB. My daughters who are type B's, have never had an ear infection.
    This is not a weightloss program book but a lifestyle book that will change your life forever if you follow the guidelines. It's not hard. I'm type B, so I'm not supposed to eat chicken, tomatoes, wheat, or corn( there are a lot more but these are the more popular items). I don't crave for them and it's very easy to avoid these food items.

    As a follower of the Eat Right way of eating for your blood type, I anxiously awaited the addition of Live Right for Your Type, which fine tunes the original data. Dr. D'Adamo's research, findings and incredible support of those who adhere to his blood type diet is no less than incredible. What a wonderful way to take full responsibility for your good health and what the heck, aren't we worth it??? All the fine tuning and additions to the original findings in Eat Right are included in Live Right, as well as lots of great additional informaton regarding illness and who is more susceptible to the various illnesses (by blood type) and the best ways to protect against them (to the degree each of us can).   • This book did change my life and for the better!
    You will definitely have to make changes if you go by it, but the fact that I no longer have to deal with gas, indigestion, and weight problems has made the effort well worth it for me.

    I even eat more than I used to, but I eat differently from the way I used to. I never feel starved and after every meal I now have a feeling of "well being" instead of that bloated feeling I used to have after meals. Eating is a joy again. This is great as I had tremendous digestive problems before going on this "diet". I also lost 45 pounds which made it even nicer.

    The book is wellworth a read if you're looking for a diet that will have you overcome digestive problems without having to go to medications....more info
  • Probably good advice, but it has some discrepancies
    I'll admit to being a health nut. In fact, I wrote for health magazines for years. I read my blood type carefully in this book and also in ER4YT, and the diet recommendations don't exactly jibe. ER4YT tells us that a type AB should drink coffee. LR4YT says avoid it at all costs. Confusing for a coffee lover. I'd give it up if I really believed it was dreadful for me, but which book do I believe?

    Both books say that type ABs lack stomach acid. I have too much. Both books tell me to eat a great deal of soy. I don't like it and neither does my digestive system. D'Adamo doesn't really discuss exceptions to his rules...he just plunks them down like they're the word of God.

    Under the section on seasonings, both books list ONLY curry and parsley as beneficial for ABs. However, none of the individual ingredients in commercial curry powder are listed as beneficial and some are in the avoid column. That's true of curry powder from health-food stores too. I read dozens of recipes for curry powder online and they all contain "avoid" ingredients. So how can curry be beneficial?

    In this book, the lists of beneficial, neutral, and avoid foods are listed in small type on tables covered with a dark grey screen. I find them difficult to read and the pages unattractive. ER4YT was presented in an easier format. I'm also put off by the gloom-and-doom prognoses D'Adamo gives for ABs. He assumes he's talking to sick people, not well people. I'm much healthier than he thinks an AB has a right to be, and would much prefer it if he would concentrate on positive suggestions to improve my health in general. He does list some supplements that are good for ABs, but doesn't go into enough detail about how much to take.

    I'm inclined to believe that blood types matter, but because of these and other discrepancies, small but significant to me, I think Dr. D'Adamo's theories are a work in progress. I am following the diet for my type about 90% of the time. But the book does not give me any perspective on whether following 90% of its suggestions mean anything whatsoever. Is it all or nothing? If you eat one "avoid" food does it throw you off altogether, or can you make up with it by eating 3, 6, or 12 beneficial things?

    This book presents a ton of supposedly scientific evidence, but it sorely lacks reader-friendly touches that would endear it to me....more info

  • If You Liked Eat Right for Your Type, You Will Adore This Book
    I thought that Eat Right for Your Type was one of the most helpful self-help health books I had ever read. Live Right for Your Type is much more valuable than that one. If you have read neither, read this one. If you have read and liked Eat Right for Your Type, you will find this book a great improvement on that one.

    If your life seems strangely out of kilter and you and your doctors can't quite put your finger on what's wrong, I strongly urge you to read this book. It may well contain important clues for creating more "wellness" for you from the correct application of self-discipline in your eating and activities. The basic weakness of most scientific studies and almost all health books is that they look at average results for the whole population. The studies cited in this book are based on seeing major differences in the body chemistries of people with different blood types. In the same way that you can drown in an average of six inches of water (if that average expresses a range from 10 feet deep to half an inch), the average health advice can make your health worse in some cases.

    Eat Right for Your Type was first published in 1996. That pioneering book summarized hundreds of research studies to define healthful eating for people with each different blood type. The underlying mechanism for this relationship is that your blood type influences your body chemistry in ways that create vulnerability or resistance to disease and an efficiently operating body. The four blood types are O, A, B, and AB. Type O people need the most animal protein (especially beef. Type A people need lots of vegetables. Type B people should eat a varied diet. Type AB people should eat smaller, more frequent meals.

    Based on that book, many people reported remarkable gains in health, vitality, and weight loss after changing what they eat. In my case, my weight is now 31 pounds less than on my old way of eating (one that my Mother, who has Type A blood, had encouraged all my life -- but I am a Type O person). Many such case histories are reported in Live Right for Your Type.

    Live Right for Your Type includes all of the diet information of Eat Right for Your Type, and adds to it insights into personality development, stress management, digestion, disease, and aging. Space does not permit explaining each of these links here, but personality traits are related to different ways that brain chemicals are created and processed by people with different blood types. Type O people, for example, are more easily stimulated into "fight or flight" responses and stay in them longer.

    Genetic influences are the beginning of how these factors influence you. Your genes for blood type and other traits come from your parents. From these genes, you get a phenotype (one of the four blood types), a secretion status (whether you secrete antigens into your other bodily fluids or not, as well as into your blood), a Rhesus Factor (positive or negative), and your MN blood type (MM, NN, or MN). All of these concepts are well explained in the appendix of the book. There are also instructions for how you can send away to be tested so you will know what your characteristics are (a total cost of $51.40). In the main body of the book are many explanations of how each of these factors have been associated with the different aspects of life.

    The heart of the book though comes in four sections where all of the information about each of the four main blood types is summarized. Yup, there I was in the Type O group with my quick temper, inclination to stay stressed out once stressed, oversensitivity to caffeine and alcohol, impulsiveness to create variety, and blissful reaction to exercise. Dr. D'Adamo definitely had me pegged.

    To me the greater insight was when I looked at the type for my wife. I had become concerned about some health vulnerabilities she was experiencing. Yup, there they were. And the things that help her were the items listed. I heaved a big sigh of relief. Whew! It's natural.

    If you want to take all of this further, there are instructions in the book for how to get more instructional material and to order special food supplements for each blood type. Normally, I find such offerings offensive. In this case, I had the opposite reaction. I don't know where else to get information that will help me, and I want to know more.

    Unlike many books that are based on one study or one hypothesis, this book is built on hundreds of studies. These are cited in the back of the book. Although I did not look any of these up, these seemed to be from reputable sources. There is some speculation in the book. I was fascinated to see that some of the brain chemistry related genes are located next to the blood type genes in DNA. We don't know enough yet to know what that means. It may mean nothing, but it is certainly interesting to think about.

  • Some people don't like anything! I DO!
    As with most things in life I have to try something before I endorse it. I was taught, "Believe half of what you see, and none of what you hear".
    With these negative reviews I get an underlying sense of skepticism. Not from the material they are reviewing but from their interpretation of the material. I believe these people are negative, probably all of the time, with things that they don't agree with. So, my advice is to, listen to the underlying agenda to any review. Maybe they don't like anything.
    As with any relatively new research, there are bound to be revisions and new data, as well as skepticism. (At one point in time the earth was flat, doctors used leeches, and surgeons didn't wash their hands. Everyone thought this science was current, not now).
    My wife (an A) and I (an O) have been on this diet for almost a year. I am not very disciplined and have trouble staying on it; she is very resolved and stays on it very well. She feels better, has more energy, has had periods more regularly, her digestion is better, and her bowels move more regular. When I am on the diet my digestion is better (no reflux), I feel better after a meal, I have more energy, I don't seem to be as lethargic. I think this book would help anyone understand themselves and their dietary habits better....more info
  • This book details a very effective plan to optimize health
    Speaking as a person who has been following the diet as put forth in the author's original, now classic book "Eat Right for Your Type" for over three years, I can tell you unequivocally that this diet has the power to profoundly change your quality of life and health for the better! I originally went on the blood type diet in 1997 because I was morbidly obese and needed to lose weight, but I have stayed on it and will stay on it for life because it has given me very deep health benefits that I never could have predicted or realized without it. The new book "Live Right for Your Type" goes into great detail on how to further refine the diet and exercise plan in order to minimize weaknesses inherent to your blood type and maximize your strengths, resulting in achieving optimal health. It provides greatly expanded food lists that also offer even more further fine-tuning of the diet with secretor/non-secretor lists (read the book to find out what the heck I'm talking about there!!!), which can be an important key in the diet as well. Whether you start out on this journey in order to lose weight, you have a specific chronic problem that you want to try to address through diet (and the book goes into detail on overcoming many health challenges by customizing the diet to treat these, instead of using drugs as orthodox medicine so often resorts to without trying simple dietary means first), or you are healthy and you just want to support your health in the best way possible for a lifetime, I highly recommend this book.   • Most important/favorite book I have ever gotten(I have lots)
    So much of what I learned the hard way, and conclusions I came to on my own, were validated in this book. Yes, yes, exactly, so that's why, no one ever believed me about exercise affecting me that way, ...etc. No wonder my mom's food never felt right for me. etc. It explained the why behind it. When I first heard about the blood type stuff(very passingly) I assumed it was wasteless quackery, (sorry Peter if you are reading this--but know there are those who might feel this way and, like I, need rescuing too!), so if you are reading this thinking that, boy did I turn out to be wrong. I originally came upon reading this book through his cancer book I saw at a bookstore. I was researching cancer for my dog, and thought I'd see how blood type could enter into the picture. This led me to his Disease Encyclopedia book. Page after page of his disease encyclopedia identified family members and other people I knew with the afflictions described, invariably with the corresponding blood type. Chills went up my spine. What else did he write?,...and there was this book on the shelf. I even got and returned the book once, and only got it again to show a dying relative, only to lose the receipt(which I'm so glad). I've used and used the book. It has helped me immensely. Honestly, as sappy/corny as it sounds, one thing or person has ever changed my life for the better than this author/this book, and I certainly do NOT say that lightly. ...more info
  • This Book Will Change Your Life
    If you follow the guidelines in this book, you will find your life changed for the better! Most people look at a book like this for weight control only. However, this book will not only provide that, if needed, but, more importantly, give you the guidelines to your optimum health.

    I have lost weight (55 pounds), following the "Eat Right 4 Your Type" guidelines, and have kept it off for over 2 years. This is without any hunger, calorie counting, fat gram counting, or carbohydrate counting. Just balanced eating of the foods that are good for my particular blood type. This new book, "Live Right 4 Your Type," gives even more in-depth refinement to those food lists.

    My greatest benefit, however, has been in the area of my general health. I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis since 1986. My neurologist considers me "one of the lucky ones," because my ms has not progressed as fast as most patients he sees. I give much of the credit, to my stability, to following the guidelines put forth by Dr. D'Adamo. Perhaps I would have stabilized anyway?? I don't know for sure, but one thing I do know is that whenever I stray into eating foods that are listed as "avoids" I suffer the effects. For instance, wheat will cause numbness and tingling in my extremities to flare up, along with migraine headaches. This is only one example.

  • Wonderful book.
    Live Right 4 Your Type expands on the 4 your Type series. Whether you have read the first two or not, this third book has much to offer. It's a very nice combination of supporting scientific information, diet by blood type to benefit the emotional and physical body, and the ability of the author to elegantly tie it all together. The comments from real people throughout the book add some insight. But mostly it's Dr. D'Adamo's success in translating it all so the reader comes away with not just a way of diet but a way of life.   • Disappointing...
    Having bought and read Eat Right for your Type, Cook Right for Your Type, and now Live Right for Your Type, I reluctantly conclude that this diet system just doesn't ring true. Some of it gets close, but having read lots on Dr D'Adamo's website and perused bulletin boards, there seem to be too many holes, too many convenient, and inadequately explained, permutations of the 4 basic types. And with no straightforward way to establish those refinements, short of a trip to the US of A., how are us mere peasants supposed to work out if we're an A2, non-secretor, or an MM... or subtype B... or whatever?

    I guess it doesn't help that I'm an A who thrives on roast lamb and potatoes, who lustifully scoffs garlic sausages with lashing of eggs and tomatoes fried in butter for breakfast, washed down by strong tea heavily laced with moo-juice... what more can I say?! No matter what I do to tofu, short of deep-frying it, it still tastes of nothing. Nut cutlets??... oh, pa-leese! Fruit?... who cares!? (You've guessed it... I'm really an O.... *LOL*) To reassure those actively blanching, I eat truckloads of green veggies.

    Need-less-to-say, I'm disgustingly healthy to boot. That said, I have eliminated wheat (even though, as an A, I'm supposed to tolerate it better than others). That may be all that I have gained for 100 bucks worth of books... and it may well be worth it.

    So why did I bother, if I'm so damn healthy? Well, I intend to reach 90 in fine form, so I'm hedging all my bets. Best one so far seems to be to listen to my body. I'll be reading all about metabolic typing next. I suspect it will make much more sense. Being a purebred mongrel of highly suspect origins, I think that blood-typing has a contribution to make, but it's too broad. 'Close, but no banana', as they say.

    To sum up: read one of these books only - don't waste your money, as I did. The cook book? Really, don't bother. If you can cook a half-way-decent meal, you can make substitutions easily in recipes you know. Otherwise, pay attention to your body. If it wants chicken livers with bacon and onions, or strawberries 'n cream splashed with Cointreau, humour it. A small quantity of much enjoyed sustenance is worth pounds of 'what's good for you'. The best advice I can offer is to learn to cook good, tasty, varied food, and DON'T eat out. The cruddiest home-cooked meal is better than any fast food.

    Some will find Dr D'Adamo's writings a God-send, but most will be under-whelmed....more info

  • I got a lot of benefit from Dr. D'Adamo's books
    This book is a welcome addition to the original Eat Right For Your Type (ER4YT.) I am so used to ER4YT method, where you select foods based on your blood type) that it is almost second nature to me.

    Now Dr. D'Adamo adds more information about life style, degenerative diseases, more info on minor blood types and secretor versus non-secretor to fine-tune the ER4YT way of eating. This theory has a lot of proponents in Japan (where they have a similar theory that tries to predict actual behavior from blood type.) I don't think blood type is a solid indicator of behavior, but I definitely feel much, much better if I follow these guidelines. And maybe I will avoid some health problems down the road.

    It isn't hard to avoid the foods and select from the list of beneficial or neutral foods. Beneficial foods are ones that actively will help your health; neutral foods are ok to eat, but have no special benefits. You can even indulge in the occasional "avoid" food once in a while if you are healthy. If you are ill, however, you can maximize your recovery by sticking to the beneficial and neutral foods. This is not a difficult way of life and this book has done me more good than any other diet or health book I ever read....more info

  • Some New, Some Old, Much Borrowed
    This books was generally good, however I found it to be a great deal of old material re-explained, some new material, which is useful, and much borrowed material from "The Answer is in Your Bloodtype". This accounts for the re-classification of foods and upgrading of others to superstar status, such as green tea. While Dr. D's books obviously sell more because of the promotion and publisher's efforts, I wouldn't necessarily conclude that his books are the most scientifically based, or knowledgable, especially in the area of life span and compatibility of blood types....more info
  • Living life according to your blood type
    The material contained in this book is simply an extension of the ideas presented in the book, "Eat Right 4 Your Type", by Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo. Once again, Dr. D'Adamo presents his case as to why our individual genetic make up should be taken into account before we decide on which diet to follow. The doctor extends this idea further by making the case that our genetic make up should also determine how we live our life.

    The ideas presented here are fascinating to me. I have spent many hours of my adult life in gyms and fitness centers. And like most fitness enthusiasts, I have always strived to attain that lean, muscular physique that some people seem to have been born with. Spending that much time at those places will teach you that not everyone responds to exercise in the same way. Why should everyone respond to diet the same way?

    I have always suspected that I am what is known as a "hard gainer". I have trouble attaining lean muscle mass. That could partly be due to the fact that I have blood type AB. Whereas those with the lean, muscular bodies tend to have blood type O. I would give anything to be able to live on a diet of high protein and low carbohydrate. I cannot stand tofu. Nor can I stand most of the foods indicated for my blood type. I cannot help but wish that I had a different genetic makeup. Unfortunately, we cannot change our genes. But, at least, now we can find ways to make sure that our diet and our lifestyle are compatible with our genetic design.

    Let me add that I do not follow the diet prescribed for my blood type. Again, because I simply do not like the foods indicated for my type. I will be miserable if I had to make Tofu and snails a part of my diet. I must have beef and chicken. I do like Turkey and Salmon though. But that is about it for meat on my diet list. And I am one of those who will fell unsatisfied unless meat is included with every meal. However, that is not a valid reason to criticize the book. The observations made by Dr. D'Adamo, from the way my body reacts to certain foods to the general personality profile, are accurate. When I read the profile of the typical AB, I cannot help but feel that I am reading about myself.

    I highly recommend this book. You may decide not to follow the diet, especially if you are unfortunate enough to be a type AB or A. But atleast you will have additional information to help you make decisions about how to live. This book should simply serve as another source of information for you decide which type of diet and exercise to follow.

    It is a great book for blood group A people. I am blood group A and read only the specific part. I am sure it would be equally good for other blood groups also..
    It opened my eyes to a whole new problem blood group A people suffer from. that is adrenal fatigue.. We have been damaging our critical glands with poor living habits all the time. Time to take the control and heal our glands.. It is worth a read. If you are blood group A, DO NOT MISS IT..
