Product Description

Whether they are corporate professionals, budding entrepreneurs, or they own a home business, most people are looking to achieve more in less time, while earning enough money to live comfortably. This book reveals the proven techniques thousands of people have used to attain all of the money they wanted while living healthy, happy and balanced lives. The Power of Focus, the new blockbuster from the coauthors of the bestselling Chicken Soup for the Soul, is a practical no-nonsense guide that shows readers how to reach their business, personal and financial goals without getting burned out in the process.

Canfield, Hansen, and Hewitt have taken the best ideas from their own successful careers (seventy-nine years of combined business expertise), and distilled them into ten powerful focusing principles. The result is a treasury of insights that is enjoyable to read and easy to understand. At the outset, the book identifies the three most important fundamentals for consistent success: developing unusual clarity; understanding that habits determine your future; and using a "no exceptions policy" approach to focus on what you want. Numerous anecdotes and inspiring stories help to reinforce each principle.

This is a must-read for business people, sales managers, entrepreneurs, and anyone who is serious about improving their personal awareness.

Customer Reviews:

  • Another Great Book from Jack Canfield
I really liked this book. The idea of staying focused is something so essential to anyone who is seriously interested in achieving success.

As a success coach and a motivational author, I come across people everyday that are so talented yet so unsuccessful--and the only reason is because they are all over the place. Scattered. Lack of focus.

If you have a problem staying focused I highly recommend you getting this book.

  • Where are my goal worksheets?
Great inspirational book to help you set goals and begin to take control in all areas of your life (even with fun and relaxation). But, the book itself is a bit wordy...and too long. How about a shortend version on setting goals with a FEW inspirational messages, leaving the last 100 pages empty worksheet plans for us to fill in? The best help books for me are those that I can read and then put to practical use....more info
  • THIS I can do!
I borrowed this book from a library then-- I bought it! I am not into the deep, affirmation type of books and this is NOT one of those at all. It is a step by natural step guide to gaining control of YOUR actions and inactions. It gave me a view- then a plan of what I needed to change in everyday actions. It is great for everyone who feels things never get finished, forget to do important things, feel guilty for inactivity, make a To Do list and never get past the first item. If your life runs in the reactive instead of proactive mode-- you need this book....more info
  • A must for anyone who wants to accomplish their goals!!!
I am a busy full time worker and full time college student who can never seem to get anything done. I received this book as an 'out of the blue, for no reason, "this book made me think of you"'gift from my father and I couldn't have asked for anything better. My life is now fulfilling and I am really changing the value of my life from the advice given by this book. Although it is written from a business aspect, everything can be related to one's personal life as well. I will warn readers that it will require more than one reading to get all from the book, not because it is hard to read (it is actually very easy and compelling to read), but because there is so much useful information that it requires constant rereading and review to absorb it all. Also, make sure you pay attention when you are reading, don't just skim over the words with your eyes. Take notes and highlight. The Power of Focus also recommends other great 'must read' books. But this book really breaks down and organizes all the details and steps to building good habits that lead to success. I recommend this book to people of all ages, especially to teenagers, young adults, and college students. It's better to learn this stuff early....more info
  • The roadmap to success.
I say that this book is a "Roadmap" to success because the terrain itself is quite familiar. It's all been said before: set goals, replace bad habits with good habits, build a mastermind group, etc. However, unlike other books of this genre, the authors of "The Power of Focus" have charted a course for the reader to follow. Instead of just telling you "what", they also tell you "how." It doesn't get any simpler than this--I'm still waiting for a book that only requires that you read it and then suddenly money just starts appearing out of nowhere.

At the end of each chapter, the authors have provided action steps for the reader to take. I personally really needed just this kind of systematic, organized approach to mastering many of these principles--I'm an amazingly creative procrastinator. The book, therefore, is kind of like a personal coach, available at any time. If you truly apply all of the principles--and it will be easier for you to do so if you actually follow the action steps at the end of each chapter--then you will likely succeed in your endeavors....more info

  • short on substance
Well I read it. Thought about it. Made some notes, and actually slept on my thoughts before submitting this. To date I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot from Mark Victor Hansen's work. Although there are some credible idea's in 'The Power of focus', most of the material appears to be somewhat academic, lacking in regular substance and heavily weighed towards this Les Hewitt guy in promoting his Achiever's company. With that I am disappointed. I purchased this book on Mr. Hansen's credibility and past success's of previous work. I discovered a few distinctions however the writing was not as defined, clearcut and experiential as Mr. Hansen normally comes across. Over promoted and underwritten....more info
  • Hocus Pocus - Lost My Focus!
This book promises a lot but delivers little. I expected so much more from the authors than endless stories that left me sleepy. While some of the ideas are sound, save yourself the money. The Power of Focus has lost its focus!...more info
  • Good Thoughts/Bad Writing
This is a book that contains a treasure of good thoughts and principles and recommendations and yet is so poorly and woodenly written that one feels as if one has just experienced a speech by Al Gore. It's too bad the writing effort didn't match the thinking effort, because the thinking is quite sound....more info
  • Highly Recommended!!!
This is one of the very best books I have ever read in the area of human performance. There are so many techniques covered that actually work! There is no "fluff" in this book. One of the things I like most about this book is that there are action steps at the end of each section. I applied many of the techniques and they really helped me out in a big way. I am much more organized and focused in my work and with my family....more info
  • Great advice, easy to read, easy to apply
I found this book valuable. First it is easy to read, and second, the advice and techniques are easy to apply. I have just gone back and read it a second time and found yet more items of value.

What I particularly liked about the book:
    1) It summarizes and integrates the advice of other success writers into an easy to follow action guide.
    2) There were lots of easy-to-apply techniques.
    3) How to prioritize your goals.
    4) The Goal Picture book.
    5) The importance of scheduling private time.

If you want to set and accomplish personal goals, this book is highly recommended.

  • The Focus is on separating you from your money
This book has a some great ideas (hire assistants for everything mundane, so you have time to be brilliant) for brilliant and rich people.

Unfortunately, like most of us, I have yet to find anything I'm brilliant at. And, I cant afford personal trainers, life coaches, tax specialists, and especially my own Personal Mastermind Group. If I could, I wouldnt need this book's advice.

With one exception (thats how it earned 2 stars instead of one), the ideas in this book are kinda useless for normal people. In addition, I was disappointed by the lack of real life experiences that I saw in Canfields early works, and I think maybe he ran out of stories. Didnt find this book to be compelling or enjoyable.

Conclusion: Title should read 'Sell Books on Focus and Get Rich!'...more info

  • Another great book by Jack Canfield
This book just like many of the book talking about success, but it is designed into a more systematic way. Each chapter has an action plan for one to follow. Although many books talk about positive thought and goal settings, few of them can be presented like this book. As I just bought this book from Amazon and already eager to try the methods it teaches. For example, I have many area to be improved, many things to be done, and I have ignored many important relationship. This book is full of checklists and guide me step by step to success, not only in money and career, but my living. • This is not a Book, But a Manual for Life
I was very impressed with the Book, it is a step by step Manual on how to set up your Road Map for life. The best Part of the Book is the Action Steps at the end of each Chapter. IF you purchase this book just to Read it, you will have made a good purchase, but if you Follow the Action Steps, and Make out your Charts you will feel how great this Book is.

The Book is Filled with many stories and examples of use from the Authors, and Other individuals who have accomplished major success with these Principles.

Make sure you actually Digest this Book, Don't try to Read it in a Day, but treat it like a 6 week College Course.

  • Out of Focus...Out of Reach
Long ago when I was a child, I purchased a large box of Crackerjacks and the prize within was a small plastic magnifying glass. I recall using it to burn holes in leaves which demonstrated the power of focus. I thought about that as I read this book. Here is one of its core concepts: "Negative habits breed negative consequences. Successful habits create positive rewards." I agree. However, as the authors fully understand, replacing negative habits with successful habits is very difficult. A sincere and sustained commitment is imperative. However, as the authors of this volume correctly point out, something else is also needed: focus. "You must invest most of your time every week doing what you do best, and let others do what they do best....When you focus most of your time and energy doing the brilliant things you are truly brilliant at, you eventually reap big rewards." Within organizations, this is the essence of alignment: getting the right people in the right places, doing what they do best to achieve whatever the organization's goals may be.

Canfield, Hansen, and Hewitt recommend and then explain ten different strategies to develop and sustain successful habits, focus on strengths, see "The Big Picture," balance career with personal life, build excellent relationships with others, eliminate (or at least significantly reduce) fear and anxiety, ask for what you want (the authors provide a seven-point system to achieve prosperity), sustain consistent persistence, take decisive and appropriate action, and finally, how to simplify one's life without compromising one's purposes. A set of specific "Action Steps" is provided at the end of each chapter. If implemented effectively, the ten strategies can enable almost anyone to "hit" their business, personal, and financial "targets" and in many (if not most) instances "with absolute certainty." First, however, each reader must determine what her or his "targets" are. My own experience suggests that, over time, people change their targets. Also, whatever they may be at any given time, the little rascals tend to be moving.

In their Final Words, the authors note that "there are no shortcuts to building a life of substance. It's an ongoing process. It takes time, real effort and a desire to become more than you already are. It's a worthy challenge. However, your biggest challenge starts tomorrow. How will you apply what you have learned between the covers of this book?" As suggested earlier, reading this this book reminded me of a large box of Crackerjacks. The material it provides reminded me of that little plastic magnifying glass. Both the box and the book offer the same "gift": an understanding and appreciation of the power of focus. I join with the authors in wishing their readers "an abundance of health, joy, and prosperity in the years ahead."

If at all possible, read this book in combination with Bossidy and Charan's Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done; Hammer's The Agenda: What Every Business Must Do to Dominate the Decade; Covey's The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People; and finally, Connors, Smith, and Hickman's The Oz Principle: Getting Results Through Individual and Organizational Accountability....more info

  • Awesome
One of the quotes in this book is "When the pupil is ready, the teacher appears". Well, if you are ready to soar to the top with a strong and stable foundation then BUY the book. Yes, that cut and dry. "The Power of Focus" will take you to the next level. What you desire you will achieve it after reading this book. It is a must for your Library. When you sow the right seeds you reap the right harvest, so purchase one for a friend. You will never again let anything hold you back after reading this book. It's a 5 star plus.......more info
  • Incredibly Powerful Book!!!
This is another one of those books that needs to be in your library that you can continue to reference. It is filled with pages and pages of incredible thoughts that you can start using today to transform your life.

Here's an example of one that caught my attention...Clearly identify your bad or unproductive habits. It's important that you really think about the future consequences of your bad habits. Consider the long term consequences, and then take the appropriate action to start changing that habit.

Very well written book and worth every second of your time....more info

  • We Control The Focus of Our Lives
    Frankly, I loved this book!

It is practical, easy to read, and it suits my philosophy that success is based on BALANCE, not on how much money, power or fame we accumulate. I have been a fan of Canfield and Hansen for many years, and I think I have read every book they've written, so you can accuse me of bias if you wish, but these guys are good! They know some stuff about making life work out well, and I appreciate that!

I don't recall seeing this phrase in the book, but the theme
is that success is actually quite easy. Success is the logical and predictable result of doing the right things, in the right way, at the right time, and that is curiously EASY if we are focused and paying attention. What is hard is living a chaotic, confused and distracted life while we "hope" for success to jump up and bite us. It just doesn't work that way!

This is one you should OWN! Buy and read it. Put it on your shelf or the corner of your desk, and in six months read it again! Give it to your spouse or kids and ask them to read it, then talk about it! The power of this book is that it's so "obvious" - but only if we remember to DO the little things that make the difference. Don't borrow it from the library. Buy it. Read it. Keep it handy and plan to read itagain and again over the years....more info

  • Self-Help Meets Self-Wealth
If you enjoyed books like The Power of Positive Thinking, The Millionaire Next Door, or The Four Agreements you are almost certain to like this book by the creators of Chicken Soup for the Soul. The authors use real-life examples, motivational tools, and tried-and-true business principles to make their points. I particularly liked the "flow charts" at the end of each chapter that helped to capture the overall message and encourage the reader's progress. Not having read any of the Chicken Soup books may have been to my advantage as I did not tire of the writers' style or lessons. An easy read full of good practical and business advice....more info

  • Mental Focus and Absolute Certainty: Vital Success Factors!
This is a small departure from the Chicken Soup series although the packaging is similar. It appears to the knowledgable self-help reader that this book is probably 98% Les Hewitt and 1% Canfield and Hansen. While the book is packed with stories, cartoons, diagrams, questionaires, and order forms, I did not find this book to be a very enjoyable, easy or compelling read. I think it is a valuable addition to a personal development library, but the average person will get bogged-down in least that's my humble opinion....more info
  • Personal and Business Success Tips
It was a pleasure to read this book even though some chapters reminded me of similar inspirational stories in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and motivational books by other authors.

Authors Canfield, Hansen, and Hewitt suggest doing what you do best, getting rid of "toxic" relationships, and living a balanced life. I particularly liked the suggestion of creating "a picture book of your most important goals," because the mind thinks in pictures rather than words.

The authors sincerely believe in their strategies for business and personal success and it is difficult not to get caught up in their enthusiasm....more info

Excellent book for college students, business professionals, stay at home moms. It is an easy read and sends a great message....more info
  • "I loved this book-You will too!"
What a wonderful book on self-improvement. After reading many books in this genre, it's still refreshing to read a winner. The three authors that composed this book share years and years of combined experience. If you want to improve your life, you must focus on where you want to be, and what the benefits will be reaped as you achieve your goals. Change is difficult, I know that as well as anybody. What I do know, however, is that change is possible-and probable if we constantly work on it. One shortcoming that I found was that the book focused more on business than personal improvement. Oh well, the sub-title states, "How To Hit Your Business, Personal and Financial Targets with Absolute Certainty", so I really can't complain. In reading this book, the reader is asked to complete a series of questions following each chapter. I did not complete this as of my first reading. I'm certain that even more can be gleaned from honestly answering each of the questions. I will re-read and assess my life in a future reading. Happy reading!...more info

By reading each chapter and doing the action steps at the end I now have a solid, detailed and achievable plan for the three key areas of my life, work, financial and relationships.

  • Don't expect too much
The 2-star rating may be a bit unfair but I had to give contrast to those tenths of enthusiastic reviews. After having read about 30 "success books" I picked up this one and I must say it's neither terribly bad nor very good. I expected much more from the 5-star reviews... Also, I agree that tips like "hire a PA" may be good for SOME people but most of us have to do the homework themselves. I believe that people at the top who could afford that army of specialists are already familiar with 99% of the tips provided in the book and for the rest all those "mastermind groups", "achievers programs" etc. are not a good start....more info
  • It's not what you say but how you say it
With these kinds of books, it's not what you say but how you say it. Yeah, many topics in this book can be found in other books in this catagory, but it is HOW the authors say it, and in what context they frame it in, that determines this book working for you.

First off I am a person that drifts a lot, changing strategies, changing careers, etc. I tend to start projects vowing to finish and I tend to make pledges to change habits all to fail. I thought all was a lost cause until I read this book. It helped me stay on track, but it wasn't so rigid that I couldn't move.

But I think the best thing about this book is the simplistic manner in which it was written. There is something about the way that they explain the most basic things about habits, about the importance of practicing, about taking responsibility for your life, about having a purpose. I am so glad that I got this book. They are like my personal coaches, always there reminding me, keeping me focused on what I need to do to get where I want to go.

They explain things so basic that I will never outgrow the information. I have self improvement books that are out dated because they got to specialized, and on the flip side it is written in such a basic style that even teenagers can pick it up and get a head start on this stuff. I wish I would have.

This book touches on and explains the building blocks, the fundamentals of success. My copy is getting worn out with markings and highlighted sections and notes in the margins. I keep it very handy and use it in those moments when I need a quick motivation and reminding as well as to get centered or back on track....more info
